Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

we are holding hands and the hum of energy between us crackles joyfully in the sunset and we are on top of the world.

i am so grateful for you because you taught me the courage of our sun to rise and fall on our broken land each day, and in a way you don't know, you taught me the difference between surviving and being alive.

it's only to you that my paper heart unfolds, blooming like a shy flower in may

and it's only in moments like this that i hear a symphony inside of me and it plays for you,

and so when you look at me with hesitance and regret and i feel our hearts untangle, i feel my heart wither and hear the silencing of music. i have no faith in the sun and i cannot live and i can barely survive. i am no longer grateful.

you are walking away and the hum of energy between us has fizzled and i am scarred beyond recognition.

but you are on top of the world.

Oh no.

Big mistake.

Time to edit!

Oh no.

Wait.

This is real life!

But rivers can still be rewritten,

People can still be erased,

And words will never disappear

Because they were never seen in the first place.

Just twist the fabric of space and time,

Like a tablecloth trying to hide a stain...!

Look there!

It's all fixed!

Edited in its own way!

all the things i wish i could say

you know, you're

beautiful, and

i used to wait for

you with held breath,

crossing my fingers that

you'd be here.

[edit]

you know, you

don't give yourself

nearly enough credit for

being as amazing

as you are.

[edit]

you know, you were

sometimes the only

bright spot in my

day, those times when

the world was against

me, you stayed

by my side.

[edit]

you know, your and

my stories seemed

like tiny shards of a

world where we could dance

together, and no one

would assume our feelings

were something they're not.

[edit]

you know, you

don't remember the day

before the whispers and

"knowing" looks

changed us, but

i do, and it was

beautiful.

[edit]

you know, your poems,

and i mean all the ones

i wrote for you,

were true, i don't love

you like a crush, i love

you as your best friend,

and there's really no

"only" about it.

[edit]

"Hi.

How are you?"

I know judging is today, but I noticed there were only two poems, so I wrote one that can be included in the contest.

~

i. you

tapping away at the keys, your face glued to the screen

me, standing in the background like some apparition

perhaps i don't exist anymore

ii. i never though you could remove me

like the way you delete unwanted lines of code

maybe i was wrong

iii. maybe i was also wrong to think

your eyes could be torn from that screen

that you'd ever stop editing the lines of text to perfection

iv. do you ever get bored of the plain font scrolling past your vision?

v. perhaps you really are editing me out

i can hardly remember a time when i wasn't this ghost

perhaps my memories are being deleted;

there's always you

tapping away at the keys, your face glued to the screen

me, standing in the background like some apparition

vi. perhaps i don't exist anymore
