Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

black, like the night

with speckles, like the stars

your eyes are just as beautiful

as the night sky

and you sparkle brighter

than all the stars

we gaze at.

the moonlight, beautiful,

the starlight, guiding my way,

and the night, mysterious.

how can something so simple

be so curious and captivating

as the sparkle of the starlight.

as the sparkle of you

and the way you make me feel

as we sit together

staring at the moon.

how can something so gorgeous

be so mysterious and colorful

as the sparkle of the starlight.

as the sparkle of

you, holding my handing

and changing my life.

as the sparkle of

you, making me smile

and laugh.

as the sparkle of

you and me, together.

how can something be so wonderful,

as the sparkle of you.

Why do you have to be a star?

Is it because you will

Always be too far away?

Is it because of the way you shine

And glimmer with every move?

Or is it because you'll never have

Enough, no matter how many

Times you steal the brightness

Away from our night sky?

Just why are you a star?

Perhaps you are only a person;

Destined to blaze until

It's shone too long,

Before blinking out;

Gone forever.

Just like that.

Why?

Well, that's

Because you

Are a star.

Yikes, do you think I could redo this one? If that's fine with you then here's my final:

You, a star,

and I, as I am.

What is it that makes

us so different?

Is it because of the way

You shine so bright?

Does it have something

to do with

how you dance and glimmer,

but never spark out?

Is it for

your insatiable hunger

that will lead to your inevitable

fiery implosion? Or,

perhaps, is it because of

the fact

that you, as a

star, will never,

ever,

simply lower yourself,

gently, of your own

volition or accord, instead

Tumbling down,

towards the ground,

in the flash of your last breath;

For you were, in fact,

but a glimpse of

Starlight.

Starlight! Something I can always write a poem about! :D

~~~~~
galaxy soup
i looked up at the sky last night
and i imagined what it would be like if i could
reach a finger up into the sky
and swirl around the darkness and the stars like a stew
with the heavens and the moon all liquid
and the starlight like little special ingredients
and then i could scoop it up and keep it in a jar
my own special piece of space
all bruised with purple and streaked with white
a glass full of starlight
Dashing
through the
cosmos
between layers and
layers of
space,
of inky darkness and
blazing light
somewhere between a
sorrowful anger and a
joyful delight and
no emotion at all,
unmoving...
and as we gaze up
at these stars
thousands of
light years
away,
all we see is
starlight
But as our eyes
watch these
lights
in the sky
off in the distance,
we see a
beacon of hope,
or
fear and uncertainty,
we see the
perfect concept for a
novel and
the most engaging
scientific discovery...
for as we gaze up
at these stars
thousands of light years
away,
we see more than
starlight
if i let the stars guide me
Hey, how r u?
I'm fine, thanks.
What I really meant was: Do you
lie awake,
when the sky is full, filled
with stars?
Did you notice, when we lay, and giggled
in the dark?
I'd forgotten, it seems so
far away
I'm so different, so the same
as I was that day.
And what have you been doing,
all this time?
'Cause I've been wondering,
what would happen
if I stepped
out of line,
If I stopped pretending, freed myself
from those electric lights
What would become of me
if I danced
in the starlight?
Starlight, Star Bright
Starlight, star bright,
I'm holding my head high tonight.
I've been through pain, I've felt the rain,
but now I've stepped into the light.
Starlight, star bright,
I'm pouring out my heart tonight.
I hid by day, was tucked away,
Now I'll unleash my fiery might.
Starlight, star bright,
I'm opening my eyes tonight.
So I may look upon the crook
as I would gaze upon a knight.
Starlight, star bright,
I'm standing by your side tonight.
"Never again," I promised when
my hand slid into yours that night.
It's been a while since I've wrote something, and I can't really speak to how good this is, but it defenitely feels good to enter this contest again. Feedback is appreciated!
responses to a question about staying up late
have you ever considered the marvel of the endless stretch of moments that make up midnight?
the magic of the almost-forgotten view of the moonlight rippling over the trees, nearly lost in among dreams
until it suddenly bursts out from the clouds to reflect off of the sidewalk?
the way your heart glows and swells like a paper lantern unfolding at the sound of a song in the silence,
how you manage to hear it for the first time there, alone in the semi-darkness, even if you've heard it a thousand times before,
the muted surprise as you realise the coolness on your face is that of tears by the time the last note sounds, even as you smile and
you feel like a thousand birds taking flight,
reveling in the surprising clarity of murky darkness?
have you ever noticed the way the world offers itself to you, a gift remade anew in the golden halos of streetlamps?
will you ever know the miracle of how no matter how bright the day's inferno burns,
a glass of cool water will always taste of starlight?
Hi, everyone! I haven't been on here in years, but I thought about Chatterbox the other day and thought I'd check up on how this corner of the internet is doing. It warms my heart that this thread, which I started over three years ago, is alive and well! I'm proud of my little creation. All of your guys' writing is amazing! Anyhow, hope everyone is doing well (although I'm not sure if anyone from my time is still on here). Good luck with your future poetry endeavors!
It's good to hear from you, Booksy! Thanks for checking in. Please remember our Valentine's Day reunions, too. I think 2023 is the next big one, but every other year is an opportunity, too.
Hi, Booksy! It's so great to see you! I don't know if you remember me, but my first post ever was on this thread, so it holds a special place in my heart. :) How have you been doing?
Secrets
that are
better kept
in the
starlight.
Would you have known?
They taunt you,
you asleep,
oblivious,
alone.
(And the starlight
will be keeping secrets
forever).
Insatiable
little ghost feet
tap-dance ‘cross
a lake.
The water tries
to wink at you
but you
are not
awake.
(But someday,
you will wake to drink
the Milky Way).
The secrets
that pass you by
every time
you sleep,
you may not know
but they will grow
and in starlight they will keep.
(And you, its greatest secret,
will curl up in a small white shell in the sky,
and look below,
and then you’ll know,
that never shall you die).
And that
may be the
biggest secret
of all,
little star.
Light Pollution
I wish I could see the starlight.
I wish I could see the indigo tapestry of silver dots,
of bright smudges,
of endless constellations.
I wish I could stare up at the awe-inspiring arc of space
going on forever and forever
and contemplate the insignificance of my life.
I wish I could see the moon shining bright at night,
a crescent like the Cheshire cat’s grin,
or a perfect circle beaming like an orb of happiness.
I wish I could lay on my back in the cool grass
and watch the stars rotate so so slowly over my head,
and be perfectly at peace.
I wish I could see the starlight.
