Ryokan Suzuran

Ryokan Suzuran

The CBer sat in the shade outside their house, staring up at the single cloud in the sky. It was nearly July, and already sweltering hot. They wondered idly if it was going to rain tomorrow.

A bird glided over from somewhere behind them. Oddly, it landed right at their feet, seemingly unafraid. As the CBer watched, it set down a scroll, and stared at them for a second before flapping away. The CBer watched it go, then opened the missive.

You are invited to a free* thirty-one day** vacation at the luxurious Ryokan Suzuran! Located in a scenic valley, we offer hiking trails, hot springs and traditional Japanese rooms and services, all for no cost!* To accept, simply bury this message in open soil and water lightly. Wow awesome ski lodge!!! It's so cool that you finished it!! Oh and I just figured out that "every rose has its thorn" is a song. Here's the lyrics:

We both lie silent, still

In the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
But I guess that's why they say
Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn
Yeah it does
I listen to our favorite song
Playing on the radio
Hear the DJ say loves a game of easy come and easy go
But I wonder does he know
Has he ever felt like this
And I know that you'd be here right now
If I could let you know somehow
Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn
Yeah it does
Though it's been a while now
I can still feel so much pain
Like a knife that cuts you, the wound heals
But the scar, that scar will remain
Every rose, every rose
Every rose, has its thorn
I know I could saved a love that night
If I'd known what to say
Instead of makin' love
We both made our separate ways
And now I hear you found somebody new
And that I never meant that much to you
And to hear that tears me up inside
And to see you cuts me like a knife
Every rose has it's thorn
Just like every night has it's dawn
Just like every cowboy sings his sad, sad song
Every rose has it's thorn
Yeah it does
Not sure it means anything but it's interesting anyway.

So Rose bud was the rose, and Cockleburr was the thorn. Not Rose bud being both. Ahhhhhh.

Thanks, and thank you for coming!

Huh. It seems to be about a relationship that's falling apart.

Oh my gosh! This was awesome! You were so regular about posts and it came out awesome! I guessed because of a comment on a dead ski lodge thread: “Another ski lodge is gone and dead. Someday I’ll make a good one, one that doesn’t end. Welcome to the Ryokan-“

Alizarine posted that. I also, like Jwyn, saw a bit of your secret conversation. I’m in awe, though- I never remember to keep it mysterious, and have already been guessed in my own ski lodge. This was awesome!

You and I are in the same boat Pooki. I left for a week and both me and Celeste were killed. It is interesting that we survived for so long, though. Celeste was the last unorphaned AE and, I beleive the last AE. Luckily I was back in time for the reveal. And you were Viola? and Alizarine! So many things make sense now! Like why Sukaretto submitted a form, but Summer didn't. Summer had already subitted a form! Also why Viola? drew me based on my form from this lodge. How did you guys communicate to make the story? Alizarine, please continue the unnoticed clues. I want to know what I missed!

Overall, this was an amazing story and ski lodge, and I was glad to be a part of it. Congrats to Cockleburr, and to Viola?/Summer and Alizarine/Sukaretto for writing a great story. Should I ever make my own lodge, I will look to this one as an example.

Missed clues 'n stuff part two:

Day six: (Note I missed: the scientific name for popcorn is zea mays everta. Zea-mays-ock. I left the everta part off when naming the monster.) "Coincidence? I think NOT" Hahahahaha! It wasn't a coincidence.

Day seven: Nothing in particular.

Day eight: "...I met Summer in the tunnel to examine the blueprints." This is when I consulted Summer about where the secret secret room could be. The secret room discovered on the last day was an unused room where I decided to move operations to. Also, this day was a lot of fun to write for on account of me being extremely creepy.

Day nine: "Cockleburr greeted me. '...Hotairballoon fell. We think he was pushed.'" Bahahaha! He was.

Day ten: "Didd yuuu heer abut thee relm thin?" Follow me, chase me by Galaxy of wonder refrence.

The dart gun was found in the front closet. (Cockleburr still had the key and access to every weapon in the building, excluding my personal dagger.) Also there's this:

Venemous

Flying

Dart

Day eleven: Nothing, as far as I can tell.

Day twelve: "...a beautiful salad." The salad did indeed look very nice-but Sam's was potentially deadly. Every rose has a thorn.

"It was probably a redback..." Redbacks are native to Japan. Cockleburr found one and mistook it for a black widow (they do look similar) and planted it in Sam's salad.

The deadly salad was a small clue pointing to Pooki P, who said she would be frequenting the kitchen.

The hidden room has no purpose. I had several back-ups.

Day thirteen: "Aspen was not dead, but Sam was" If at first a poisonous spider bite does not succeed, try, try again.

Day fourteen: "Fiddlesticks...Writer's block" I had severe writer's block on this day. Behaind the scenes glorpheberkleschortium!

"Uh... I covered the peeky-holes with duct tape." Smart. This was following up on the peeky-hole discovery of day 11.

"No, you don't understand!" Aspen was telling the truth. I was going to write what happened in the baths, but because some people suspected Aspen I decided to leave it up in the air for one more day.

"The clean, gleaming blade..." No blood. Aspen was innocent. I was slightly dissapointed no one caught that.

Day fifteen: "The weird thing is the sword was clean." Yup, and Aspen died within the day.

Day sixteen: Here are the discovered rooms-

Swivel door: Just a pantry (feeding all these people needs food)

Heavy door: Summer's office

Beaded curtain: Our bedroom

"... a bouquet next to a human skull... morning glories, mountain laurels, and lilies of the valley..." These flowers are beautiful; and also positively DEADLY. ERHAT.

"A bloody sword..." Aha! The weapon!

"A bag of something rattly and small..." these are Spyro's teeth. Cockleburr thought one might be able to use dragon's teeth as weapons.

"Yurei remote control, inc" Yureis are terrifying ghosts from japanese legends. You're welcome. :)

Day seventeen: The anvil was remotely activated. Man, I hate it when someone drops an anvil on my head. It hurts like the dickens. *Refence to something no one will get*

Day eighteen: Nothing.

Day nineteen: REVEAL THE SECRET GATE, BEHIND WHICH LIES THE TRUE SECRET ROOM. Nothing incredibly interesting is actually in there, unless you're the type of person who is incredibly interested in other people's stuff.

Day twenty: Nothing.

Day 21: Nothing.

Day 22: "This tool shed is haunted by a ghost of a deer with glowing eyes. Enter if you dare." The tool shed is not haunted at all. Allusion to Rentaro's deer face.

"'One of two things usually happens' paragraph:" More allusions to snicket!

Day 23: Well, at this point it's kind of late for clues.

FINAL NOTE: "Suzuran" is Japanese for Lily of the valley. The ryokan is a beautiful building surrounded by mountains, a literal lily of the valley. However, despite its innocent appearence it's a death trap.

Every rose has a thorn.

*Bows dramatically*

I thought the flower thing was going in a completely other direction! I was thinking of flower meanings and what the message could be. Regardless, I am somewhat proud of the fact that I knew the meaning for mountain laurel and lily of the valley off the top of my head.

YET ANOTHER NOTE:

My hollow book is real! I bought it for five dollars (or maybe nine dollars, I forgot) at Michael's or something. It's currently plain wood and I have no idea how to paint it, so...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Lilies of the valley! XD

But seriously, I would just do flowers because that's who I am. Flowers and maybe a twisty border. You could make it look like an actual book if you wanted...
