Drawing contest!

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Drawing contest!

Drawing contest!

hey guys! We haven't had one of these in a while, and i thought it'd be fun to bring them back! And if you don't know how it works already, basically, the judge(me, for this round) comes up with a theme and a date for them to be due. Then the judge well, judges the drawings and the winner becomes the new judge! And I don't think there are any rules other than nothing inapropriate and stick to the theme, Lmk if there are others!

and without further ado, the first theme is, drum roll please, Journey! Judging will be february 5! I'm super excited to see your pictures!

Here it is! I'm not sure if I like it or not. I mean, it was a coolish idea, I'm just not sure of I did it well. Anyway, I'm done talking.

Ok, so there's a story behind this one. A couple years ago when I had appendicitis, I had to stay in the hospital for 6 days and I was in a room which was white and basically everything in it was white, neutrals, or blue. There was a window, but all I could see was the road. So when I got out, I was absolutely amazed by the forests that I had seen almost every day of my life. All the different trees, plants, vines, and just the sheer amount of green were so beautiful after being in a world of white. This is kinda based off that, except it's an older woman who has to be in a wheel chair for some other reason.

Sorry this is a little late, but it takes a little while to put together sometimes...

Anyway, Judging!!!

(I hope this doesn't turn out too messy...)

Oh my goodness this was so so hard! Why are you all such GOOD artists?!

In 1st Place...

DoodleGirl!!!!!

I loved the story behind yours, and I think it’s really cool that you made a drawing based on it! The way you portrayed it and tied it with your own personal experience gives a whole new meaning to the theme. I also like the use of watercolors because of the bittersweet effect they have. To summarize, your entry was unexpected and beautiful, and I am proud to pronounce you the next JUDGE! Congratulations! :D

In 2nd Place...

Agent Winter!!!!

I love how your girl was not only colored green, but also had a mysterious green aura. She is in a rather peaceful pose, clutching vines, and wearing mysterious crown that appears to fashioned of bones. She reminds me of some kind of a nature spirit with a dark past or origin. Her natural/plant-themed decor, along with her melancholy, questionable appearance seems to enhance the suggestion of green. I also think the sparse, sketchy, edge-coloring technique gave it a great effect.

Overall you did an exceptional job of capturing the theme from both sides, while also displaying excellent technique and detail. Well done!!!!

In 3rd Place...

PandaGirl!!!

This is such a nice leaf! I love all the different shades you used, and just the perfectly saturated watercolor in general. I’m kind of a sucker for this type of watercolor painting. I also love the blends, smudges, and drips that create a faded/impressionistic effect. Great job!

An Honorable Mention goes to...

HeroesOfOlympus!!

The first thing that stuck out to me from your drawing was the concept: One lonely bright green leaf on a tree with many bare, desolate branches. I love your drawing for its simplicity, but also the intention and purpose that shines all the brighter through it. The leaf is very simple, but you can’t help staring at it. It could be an expression of hope, endurance, or of extraordinary in the ordinary. A special honorable mention for a wonderful interpretation of the theme!

Another Honorable Mention to...

Alex!

I just had to mention you here because your dragon is SO CUTE. Even though I placed the others for technique and theme, the dragon is my favorite green thing here! I love it so much!

A special Thank You to SurroundedByBooks, aqua, and Starchaser for your entries! They were awesome as well, and I know you guys will do even better next round!

Congrats everyone, and especially to DoodleGirl! I can't wait to see what theme you come up with!
