Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Heart wrenching quotes
Okay, so I...

Okay, so I was just reading WOF for the third time or so and I came to this sentence:

I did it. I told her. And the world didn't collapse.

And I be like OH MY GOSH THREAD YUS so here's this thread for the posting of little tidbits of books that make you go "Awwwww, so sweeeet!" inside. Please say which books they are from. :)

Goodbye in fear, goodbye in sorrow,

Goodbye, and all in vain,

Never to meet again, my dear-

Never to part again

I have but one rose in all the world,

But my one rose stands a-drooping:

Oh, when my single rose is dead

There’ll Be but thorns for stooping.

A babys cradle with no baby in it,

A baby’s grave where autumn leaves drop sere;

The sweet soul gathered home to Paradise,

The body waiting here

Why did baby die,

Making Father sigh,

Mother cry?

Flowers, that bloom to die,

Make no reply

Of “why?”

But bow and die.

Did someone say heart wrenching quotes? Oh buddy, someone DID say heart wrenching quotes.

"The same rule holds for us now, of course: We choose our next world through what we learn in this one. Learn nothing, and the next world is the same as this one, all the same limitations and lead weights to over come." - Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach

"You will begin to touch heaven, Jonathan, in the moment that you touch perfect speed. Ant that isn't flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a limit, and perfection doesn't have limits. Perfect speed, my son, is being there." - Jonathan Livingston Seagull - Richard Bach

To be reminded that often, remarkable things happen to normal, everyday people, events after which nothing will be the same and those people will be forever transformed. - Invisible Fault Lines - Kristen-Paige Madonia

"I am a firm believer that the easiest way to learn about a person is to study their book shelves. It's the most honest glimpse into who they really are." - Invisible Fault Lines - Kristen-Paige Madonia

According to Dickens, the first rule of human nature is self-preservation and when I forgive him for writing a character as pathetic as Oliver Twist, I'll thank him for the advice. - Jellicoe Road - Melina Marchetta

And all at once I start laughing without even knowing why. I feel like I might shatter because I haven't laughed in a million years, and oon Dad is chuckling from the front row and Fish closes her eyes and throws back her head and starts laughing this amazing, alarming, contagious, rollicking belly laugh that makes me and Dad stop short for a second because if we close our eyes, we could almost imagine that mom is with us, but instead it's this strange girl with pink hair, and we look at each other startled and heartsick, but Fish is still laughing, and her laughter rises to the ceiling like sunlight." - Ready to Fall - Marcella Pixley

I'm hungry for a juicy life. I lean out my window at night and I can taste it out there, just waiting for me. - Guitar Highway Rose - Brigid Lowry

I look past them to where Will and his friends are sitting, and he catches my eye for a moment and smiles. It's a weird smile, but it reaches his eyes and I bottle it and I put it in my ammo pack that's kept right next to my soul. - Saving Fracesca - Melina Marchetta

The healers I've met haven't stayed inside the box of any one religion. They all believe their powers come directly from some form of God or the Absolute, or whatever you want to call it, but they blend their own mix of native practices with Christianity and Easter images and New Agey stuff - whatever works for them. If something feels sacred, it feels sacred, no matter which religion box it falls into. They're like chefs, creating their own recipes. - The Indigo Notebook - Lavra Resau

Magic was real, Ray had learned. It could inspire. It could trick. It could save. It provided an escape from the dark, graveling, unfair nature of the world. The catch was that magic demanded respect. Without believing in it, magic would get you nowhere. - The Magician - Erin Bowman

Inej shook her head. How could she still look at him with kindness in her eyes? "You don't ask for forgiveness, Kaz. You earn it." - Crooked Kingdom - Leigh Bardugo

~

"Even if the president did order you to turn yourself in, there's something more to life than duty, Danny. Remember that."
"What about you?" I said. "You always do your duty as a mom."
She leaned forward with her elbows on the table and a smile on her face. "That's something I choose to do. Not out of duty. Out of Love." - Divided We Fall - Trent Reedy

~

To me it feels like a reunion of old friends. And a reminder of what can be if I have the grit to make it happen. - Step Right Up - Jessica Spotswood

~

The winter crone is here, but she brings good fortune, if we have the courage and stamina to seek it, and she holds the secrets and magic in her hands. - Tempest and Slaughter - Tamorra Peirce

~

To worry about the future was the wrong attitude towards life, he said. One should enjoy each day as it came. - Sea Crow Island - Astrid Lindgrin

~

People have all sorts of pasts, sometimes dark or dreary, but perhaps the actions they choose in the present are the ones that carry the most weight. - Taken - Erin Bowman

~

It's hard to keep track of all your wisdom - Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo

Hoo, boy. Okay. I just finished reading this book called The Ash Princess, and it had this incredible scene. To preface it *******SPOILERS******* The main character, Theodosia, is a princess, the last in her line. Her kingdom has been conquered and is now ruled by a cruel dictator. He keeps Theodosia around and forces her to wear an ash crown to remind her of everything she's lost. Every time her people try to rebel, he blames her and punishes her. She's part of a rebel plot to escape the palace, and her guards have been replaced by these three rebels. One of them, Artemisia, is gruff and distant; Heron is nicer but still distant; and Blaise used to be her friend before her family was killed and he fled. So they've been her guards for a little while now but Theodosia and them haven't grown close, and the three of them even scorn her a little bit. But then there's an uprising of her people, and she's brought in to be punished. The guards see her scars and her bravery in the face of her punishment, even though she's hurting horribly. After she gets back to her rooms and her wounds are dressed, she's trying to ignore her three rebel guards and muffle her crying so that they don't hear her crying. Then Artemisia begins to sing.

"Walk through the fog with me, my beautiful child. We're off to dreamland, my dear, where the world turns wild."

Then Heron joins in.

"Today is done, the time has come for little birds to fly. Tomorrow is near, the time is here for old crows to fly."

And finally, Blaise.

"Dream a dream of a world unknown, where anything can be. Tomorrow, you'll make your dreams come true, but tonight, child, dream with me."

It was just so incredibly heart-breaking, and I'm not doing a good job of explaining it, but ahhhh! I read a lot of books but they usually don't affect me like this. As soon as I finished the book, I sighed and started it over again. It was just an incredible read.

"Aaron's only friend in the entire world was dead. What was he going to do without her?" -The Unwanteds: Island of Shipwrecks, Lisa Mcmann

"And then it started to fall more steadily, and Dad was just about to take a sip of his iced tea, when a drop landed in it and splashed some of the tea against his glasses.
He looked up to the sky, at the dark clouds, and then he said in a hopeful voice, 'maybe a tiny drop of Millie [the main charrie's dead sister] just fell into my cup.' ". -My diary from the edge of the World, Jodi Lynn Anderson

"I don't think I'll write in here again. In fact, i'm probably giving up my writing career forever- it doesn't seem very interesting now. So these will probebly be the last words you ever read from me. The thing is, my hand feels too heavy, and nothing id magic anymore." My Diary from the Edge of the world, Jobi Lynn Anderson

"Having a sister is a hard habit to shake yourself out of." My Diary from the Edge of the world again

"She shook her head and took his face in her hands. 'Look at me, Pieter,' she said. 'Look at me.' He looked up, tears in his eyes. 'Don't ever pretend that you didn't know what was going on here. You have eyes and you have ears. And on many occasions, you sat in that room taking notes. You heard it all. You saw it all. You knew it all. And you also know things you are responsible for.' She hesitated, but it needed to be said. 'The deaths you have on your conscience. But you're a young man still; you're only sixteen. You have many years ahead of you to come to terms woth your complicity in these matters. Just don't ever tell yourself you didn't know.' She released him from her grip. 'That would be the worst crime of all.' "- The Boy at the Top of the Mountain, john Boyne

"We should call the Man in the Moon," Bunnymund suggested.

"No!" shouted Jack, rousing at last. He took Katherine's hand and, gazing off into the distance, said, "I need one of your stories, Miss Goose. It's been a long time since you told me one."

"My father was killed in front of my eyes. Betrayed by the person I trusted the most. You don't know how it feels to lose your mother and your father and be all alone."

"Yes, I do. I'm an orphan, too. [SPOILER], my greatest supporter, was killed. I, too, am alone in this world."

"Isn't it pretty, Ryuzaki?" She thought of all the beautiful lights and what remained of her short life, and she began to tear up.

L did not hesitate to take her hand this time, and he held it tightly. "There is happiness in each and every one of those lights. I won't allow anyone to shatter them."

If a policeman is killed in Dallas,

And they have no clue or guide;

If they can't find a fiend

They just wipe their slate clean,

And hang it on Bonnie and Clyde.

~The Story of Bonnie and Clyde by Bonnie Parker

Some day they'll go down together;

They'll bury them side by side;

To few it'll be grief,

To the law a relief,

But it's death for Bonnie and Clyde.

"It's not a sense of justice. Solving complicated cases is my hobby. If you wish to measure good and evil by the law then I'm also a criminal who had committed various evil acts. It's just like how all you guys want to solve puzzles or video games as quickly as possible. It's a game. A hobby.

"That's why I only take up cases that interest me. It's not about justice. And in order to solve a case, I will do anything. I am a cheater who hates to lose."

"By the way--" Suruga held a baseball up to the glass. "A present from Ryuzaki." It was autographed--a Tigers ball? Maki perked with excitement. But it was a ball signed by Ryuzaki--

How are you, Maki? See you soon.

The instant she saw the message, Maki knew she would never see Ryuzaki again. Ryuzaki, who dropped crumbs everywhere when he ate sweets while perched atop the sofa. Who bit his fingernails as he walked with rounded shoulders. Who'd risked his life to protect her. The Ryuzaki she adored.

"Your jokes are getting better, Ryuzaki." Maki looked through the isolator and out the window st the twilight sky. She smiled as her eyes welled up with tears. She knew she had to live to change the world. The way her father and L had wanted, the way they had done so.

" 'Tsunami . . .' He paused. 'I really am sorry. I hope next time . . . well, I hope there is a next time. When things are better for everyone.' "

~Wings of Fire: The Lost Heir by Tui T. Sutherland

"Firepaw nosed his way forward and saw Tigerclaw standing over a motionless bundle of dappled fur.

Spottedleaf!

Firepaw stared in disbelief at her lifeless body. Fury rose in him like a dark cloud, and he felt the blood roaring in his ears. Who had done this?"

~Warriors: Into The Wild by Erin Hunter

" 'Yellowfang,' Fireheart pleaded. 'Don't die!'

Her painful breathing clawed at his heart, and he realized there was nothing he could do. 'Don't be afraid of StarClan. They will understand about Brokentail,' he promised wretchedly. 'You will be honored by our warrior ancestors for your loyalty to your Clanmates and for your endless courage. So many cats owe their lives to you. Cinderpelt would have died after her accident if you had not tended to her. And when there was greencough, you fought day and night. . . ."

Fireheart could not stop the words from tumbling out even though he knew the old medicine cat's breathing had faded into everlasting silence. Yellowfang was dead."
