Positivity!

Positivity!

It's a truth universally acknowledged that life can kinda suck. Especially nowadays, what with Covid, climate change, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and all the other problems humanity is struggling with, it's horribly easy to get lost in the darker sides of humanity, and forget about the light. So let's not forget. Let's remind each other of all the beautiful, whimsical, goofy, adorable, sparkly, touching, hilarious, extraordinary parts of life.

Post random fun facts. Post cute pictures of your pets. Post artwork you've made. Post the fantabulous grade you got on that math test. Post what the sunset looked like last night. Post something, anything, that makes you smile.

So when we can't see the light for the darkness, we'll make our own. We'll set the shadows alight with moonlight and sunrises and candle flames and fireflies.

Together.

oh yes! The Wee Free Men was my introduction to Terry Pratchett, and I liked it also :) I have vague nebulous ambitions to read more of his books, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. (Except for this, of course)

A group of ferrets can be called either a busyness or a business. Relatedly, can one teach ferrets to set up a business? Because PUNS.

(A lot of animal group names are like that. Such as "bobkitten", a baby bobcat. And if a group of kittens can be called a pillow, which they can be, can a group of bobkittens be called a bobpillow?)

The name ferret comes from a Latin word meaning "little thief". This means you could have a business of little thieves.

Did you know that Norway knights penguins? Sir Nils Olav III is the current king penguin who is the mascot and colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian King's Guard, although there were two before him. Go look up pictures of him, he's so cute :)

Here's something really nice to do when you're stressed: tell yourself with Utter Firmness that you will NOT think about whatever's stressing you for the next few minutes. Then put on some super-relaxing music, lie down on your bed with a blanket (or not, if it's hot outside) and just imagine that you're in a scene that has to do with the music. For instance, if you're listening to guitar music, you could imagine that you were sitting in a tiny sidewalk cafe in a little town in Spain, with a street musician playing the guitar nearby. If you imagine it so vividly that it feels like you're really there, it's super relaxing and a good way to escape the pressure of the real world for a little while. Or you could always just kind of zone out and listen to the music without imagining anything. It really works; it feels as if the music is a river, and you're drifting with it and everything that's worrying you has faded away.

Some of the relaxing music I like to listen to includes:

-Adagio en mi pais, by Alfredo Zitarrosa; super soothing and calm, with a slow, beautiful lilt to it

-classical guitar music

-The Bird Woman, from the Mary Poppins movie

-All is Found by Kacey Musgraves (from Frozen II)

-Nada vale mas que la libertad and Virgen de la soledad by Paco Padilla - harmonious and beautiful, with lovely instrumentals and melodies

-Most importantly of all, Gregorian chants. I literally cannot recommend Gregorian chants enough if you need something soothing.  They're songs that used to be sung by monks in the Middle Ages, and they're really, really calming; the ones I like best have this effect of making everything stressful seem suddenly unimportant, until only peace and tranquility remain. Idk how, but they do :)

On a different note, I ate some chayote today for the first time in three years!! yay!  (Chayote is a vegetable that's a little like a squash?? But without the seeds and the pulpy bit in the middle. I don't know how to describe it, but it's more like a fruit than a vegetable, and it's so good :D)

@Silver Crystal, NO WAY (but yes way!) about the penguinsl!! I have to tell all my friends that!! And I looked it up, and am so glad I did! @Poinsettia, I also looked up chayotte and it actually looks... pretty good! Is it sweet/juicy/soft/crunchy? If so, I am totally trying it (I have a list of foods to try)! Or something else?

Hmm. Well, the inside is kind of soft (still firm, though) but the outside is crunchier. It's juicy, and the flavor is semi-sweet and... um... very flavorful?? Idk, I'm really bad at describing flavors, especially since chayote has a pretty unique taste. But anyway, it tastes really good, I hope you find it to your liking! (A tip: although it's sort of like a fruit, you have to cook it before you can eat it.)

Huh. Ok, thanks, sounds interesting! And I understand about the describing flavor thing, for some reason, I can't describe soursop no matter how hard I try! I'll try to see if they sell some around here

here's a couple suggestions that i implemented in my life!

whenever u feel like u've done something wrong, think about something you've done right, then go back to improving

when ur arguing w someone, talk not to rebut but to learn !

if ur ever feeling frustrated, just go outside, sit down, close your eyes for a while and soak in the sunshine

read books! esp fiction ones, they genuinely seem to bring u to a different place. if u want suggestions just reply with @th3mysticw0lf, i'll see it hehe

@Poinsettia, so, you know how I said I would try chayotte? Well, I asked my mom, and she was like "isn't that that light green fruit thingy? Oh yeah, you've already tried it." So turns out, the green fruit thingy you're talking about is, wow, that green fruit thingy my grandpa cooks with shrimp. And you are right! It's SO GOOD!! Also, BOOK SUGGESTIONS YES PLEASE @th3mysticw0lf!! @Peregrine Falcon, now that you mention it... I think so too! Cellos are cute!
