Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Global Warming is

Global Warming is the talk of the world these days. I was wondering who here believes in Global Warming and who doesn't. I always think that it's interesting to hear other people's views on this hugely contraversial topic.

Please post to say your opinion on climate change!

~Koffee (who believes very strongly in Global Warming!)

AHHH! More heated arguments. Maybe global warming, creation vs. evolution, and politics should be banned subjects. Not really. But seriously, can everyone calm it down a little? Please?

THANK YOU, LENA!!!!!!!!!  That's exactly why I don't usually read these threads.  Everybuggy gets WAY overdone.  :)

Okay, everybuggy!  I've giving my opinion about this subject on about a million threads, so really, I'm sick of it!  And, it's obvious that with just me saying it, I'm not going to be able to change Koffee and BellaTrix's mind.  Soo, since I won't be able change my mind on the subject, I really don't think there's any point of me being on this thread, so, so long!

:D

I'm sorry that everyone got so worked up over this. It's honestly only a matter of opinion, and how much you have dug into the cold hard facts. For those people out there who still think it's a hoax, I'm truly sorry that I couldn't change your minds

It's ok Koffee, there have been about three or four other threads on this same topic, and I can assure you, there will be more.  :)

To start with, do you actually mean "Global Warming" or "Climate Change"? It seems that "Global Warming" would mean the earth is getting warmer everywhere, while "Climate Change" would mean that the climate is changing. Anyway, global warming/climate change is definitely a natural cycle. I'm currently studying high school biology, and it seems very obvious that global warming is natural. If you compare the amount of time we have been monitoring the temperature of the earth to the amount of time the earth has existed, our time monitoring is extremely insignificant. The earth is probably about 4.54 billion years old. There is absolutely no way we can be sure that today's climate is different than the climate 300 billion years ago. We weren't there to test the temperature.

A few thoughts:

1. Thermometers were invented in the seventeenth century, approximately 400 years ago. How could we even monitor the temperature before that without thermometers?

2. 400 years does not even make a dent in the 4.54 billion years earth has existed.

3. The Greenhouse Effect is the natural situation in which heat is retained in the atmosphere by carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, and other gasses.

Also, one more thing I forgot to put in my original post:

We have to trust in God. He knows what he's doing way more than we do.

That's a really good point, Maddy. I'm talking about Global Warming, the real thing, not the climate change that we've had in the past. Sure, some of them are natural, but with humans releasing so many greenhouse gases, we're just digging a hole for ourselves to fall into. Also, if this is "natural," then why is it causing holes in the ozone? That doesn't seem natural to me.

Ok, now I'm just starting in arguing again. Baaddd Koffee. I honestly am not trying to make anyone mad, I just feel really strongly about this topic.

1.  If there are lush tropical plants somewhere, the temperature has to be tropical, right?

2.  Yes . . . what's your point?
3.  Yes, but nowadays there is TOO MUCH of it!
4.  The end result of Climate Change will be Global Warming.  It doesn't mean the earth will suddenly heat up like an oven.
Okay, sorry about that.  I'm a little tired.  I'll come back with a better argument later.

Although I don't have any additional comments on this discussion, I just thought I'd say that I do believe in global warming.  And I think it's really important to take steps to help the environment.  I do have one question for you global-warming-is-a-hoax people that also have a problem with "going green".  Why do you? I mean, look at it this way. We use fossil fuels  for everything- electricity, plastic products, cars, etc.- and those fuels will at some point run out. Usage of them also pollutes the atmosphere. So what is wrong with solar panels, wind energy, energy efficient cars, and other such things, may I ask?  Really, think about it!

Global Warming is not real. Deal with it. And even if it was, there are many other extremely important issues that should be dealt with first. (Hopefully, some people know what I'm getting at)

Ok, don't mean to be rude (again), but what's more important than stopping humankind from frying in a giant oven? What makes you think that Global Warming isn't real? If I hear one more person say that "It's not hot!" I think I may strangle myself here and now. Where's your proof?
