Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Global Warming is

Global Warming is the talk of the world these days. I was wondering who here believes in Global Warming and who doesn't. I always think that it's interesting to hear other people's views on this hugely contraversial topic.

Please post to say your opinion on climate change!

~Koffee (who believes very strongly in Global Warming!)

Yeah, but you don't really have to change religions to be a Budhist, all you have to do ( at least for Japanese people like me) is believe and act upon the Budhist's teachings, such as being kind and forgiving your enemies and ( my fav teaching is) "to acheive peace you must first find peace in mind and spirit; if you attempt to  acheive peace with violent thoughts, then it will never work." Well, that's not half as poetic as the original, but that's more or less what it means.

Maybe you should consider joining the true faith is, not just the one that's peaceful and earth friendly.

OK, I have explained this to a lot of people, some have been offended, some got my meaning, and some thought I was crazy. I understand each point of view, and I don't intend to change anyone's beliefs, okay?

Well, I'm not really any religion,  but I just say Buhdist because it's not really, like, there's a god that you worship, you just follow the teachings of the Buddha, etc, because, yes, I believe that something created the universe, but I just do not think that I want to say whose religion is right and whose is wrong. I just simply do not want to become tangled in the web of religion. I also understand that some people have to have something to believe in, but I am not like that.

Again, like I said at the top. Please don't be mad at me!

Everyone is entitled to their own faith, Mary Jo. I guess the true faith would be Catholicism, was that what you were saying? Well, it can be to YOU. I don't believe that there is one 'right' faith.

I completely believe in global warming. First of all, it's not like green energy is going to harm the planet! Also, the ancient ice age didn't happen overnight, I'm pretty sure it took some time for all that ice and snow to develop. And our climate is changing very rapidly. Has anyone read "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore, who used to be the vice president? There are tons of graphs in there that show just how quickly animals are dying (not only polar bears are dying, many many animals are dying out quicker every day). And, if you watch Planet Earth, it actually gives footage of the arctic and the melting ice caps, plus all the other rain forests and other beautiful places in the world that are being ruined. *Screams in frustration* There are so many things wrong with our world today! Especially with our country!!!

I completely believe in global warming. Has anyone heard of how polar bears may become extinct because ice is melting? I watched this show a while back, and it said that in a couple hundred years, parts of Florida (I think) could be underwater, since the ocean is rising.

I don't want anyone to get upset or anything at me, but global warming is real. Even if its not happening now, it'll happen sooner or later.

Okeypokeydokey...

1. Global warming is a natural cycle. The planet has been warming and cooling for millions of years. Accelerated Global Warming, which is what is happening now, is not a natural cycle. MANY reliable resources show that temperatures and  sea levels and CO2 levels are higher now than they have ever been before.

2. Whoever wrote the article that said that the ice caps are getting bigger is not looking at the facts. If you want real info, google "Larson B ice shelf." Read the information. Google more. I didn't mean to offend anyone there...sorry. Someone might need to give me reminders to cool down every once in a while; I'm a big one for very large heated debates.

3. Look at things like Katrina...and all the huge Tsunamis and Hurricanes getting steadily worse over the last decade. Look at the twelve hottest years the US has ever recorded. ALL in the last few decades. That stuff isn't just happening all by itself!

To make a REALLY long story short, Accelerated global warming IS real, and we NEED to do something about it!

Yes!!! Yeah!!! Go Charlotte!!! I agree wholeheartedly!!! . . . Only thing is that these debates tend to go in circles and not lead anywhere. So most people debate for a bit, than get bored and new people take over with the same arguments. So don't please don't use up too much of your energy on this. I've done that with TNO and Paige and Mary Jo already, and It goes on circles . . . ;D But, if you want to debate anyway, I'll back you up! :D

You know what I just was thinking?

You all could be right, Global Warming could be fake (though I highly doubt it).  BUT.  Just because it could be, is NO reason to not act like it's real, you know why??  BECAUSE, it may not be happening right now (though I'm 99.99.99.99.99 etc. % sure that it's real), but we can prevent it from happening in the future, BY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW.  Even if nothing is changing our climate, our air is still bad, and we HAVE to stop polluting, JUST TO SAVE THE WORLD FROM TOXIC CHEMICALS IN OUR FOOD, WATER AND AIR.  Don't you get it?

We HAVE to take a stand to stop the world from going to ruin.  It's our only chance of surviving.  WE are the generation to put a stop to all the things that have gone wrong.  I vote to make a change.

Exactly. So no pressure anybody. Sorry, I just had to say that. No, really, Icompletely agree with Laura. Global Warming doesn't just mean it's gonna get warmer. It's that all seaseons will become more extreme.
