Riddles! Does anyone

Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Riddles! Does anyone

Riddles! Does anyone have some good ones? I'm on this other site where they were telling riddles, and so I decided that we could do it on here too! Here's one:

Alice and Emily are twin sisters, but Alice is thirteen and Emily is three. How can this be?

If you need a hint, ask me because I have one!

Yes.  I'm not really good at writing my own riddles.

Um... a knight? the night? I think I've heard it before, but I'm not sure. For a riddle that's supposed to be spoken, you wrote it really well, by the way!

I get why it has to be said!!!  It's the night, only it's a Knight!!!!  That's a good one.  I'm going to tell that to my family!

Zero handshakes.  The shorter people will NOT shake hands with people taller than them.  They are all diferent heights.

Meadow's right! TNO, that's what I did the first time. That's why it's a riddle. Because the obvious solution isn't it. :) And I so didn't get it at first.

But there have to be some handshakes, because if they are all different heights, it goes like this:

Tallest: necessarily, if they are all different heights, someone has to be the tallest, therefore he/she shakes hands--
OOOHHHHH!!!!  That's so obvious!!  But I didn't get it!!  Tall people can't shake hands with people shorter than them because, well, the short people are shorter than them, and therefore won't shake hands with them because they're taller!!! :):D:) It's weird how your brain doesn't think of that!! :)D:)

That'd just be 9!, wouldn't it? 9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1? so...  no... never mind. argh.

Tallest shakes hands with nine people.

Second tallest shakes hands with eight people, excepting himself and the tallest. (They've already shaken hands; I'm assuming we're not counting that twice.)

Third tallest shakes hands with seven people...

So it would be 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 45?

Yeah, I thought that too . . . *shrugs*  How could it be zero?  It doesn't make sense . . . :S

Ok, logical, except, nobody who is shorter than somebody shakes hands with somebody taller, so there are no handshakes!  ACK!  Confusing!!!

I have a ton of great riddles, but I'd have to (horror of horrors!!) go upstairs and get the book that they are in. I think I can remember a couple of them, though (the shorter, easier ones):

"Black I am and much admired, men seek for us when they are tired. We tire the horse, but comfort man, tell me this riddle, if you can."
"Little Miss Etticoat, in a white petticoat, and a red nose. The longer she stands, the shorter she grows." etc., etc. I'll get more when I have the book.
