Info Dump About Yourself!

Pretty much what the title says. Introduce yourself - favorite fandoms, colors, animals, characters, weird stories, AEs, anything you want. Find things you have in common with other people. Have fun.

I'll go once it shows up.

BeCaUsE i LoVe LAnGuAgEs!!!

To be less nebulous, I moved around a lot from when I was a child, and lived with many other refugees who spoke a myriad of languages, which I began to pick up on mentally and become intrigued in. It was just a way to adapt to the lifestyle.

Now that my situation is much more stable, I can actually focus and practice being a proficient polyglot! There are a lot of resources, like the internet, books, people and so I get kind of hyper and ambitious and want a taste of it all, if you know what I mean.

Like, honestly, I probably get way too excited when discussing languages and culture, but it's so fun/interesting/useful to know so much about different peoples and lifestyles and all that. Imagine what you could create with all that knowledge! And using this information and the concepts and differences definitely do make/have made me more creative, in my opinion.

Y'anyway, that sorta became a glossophilic ramblings, whoops-

Well, I don't know if I have at all a solid answer, I guess. Just practice (duh); but personally, it also helps to form connections to the sound/association(s) of words or phrases, to really tie them into your brain's way of thinking instead of just using your brain's internal "Google translate." Especially with languages that use very different scripts (like Japanese, Hebrew, Russian, etc.) I think that's very important.

Instead of only reading a textbook (like obviously build up a vocabulary and understanding of structure/grammar first, but when you've gotten the basics, go ahead and challenge youself), listen to videos, music and shows in the language you're trying to learn, if you can. Then, when you feel more confident, seek out native speakers. Try to hold a conversation with them in that language as well as you can! It doesn't have to be perfect, and in my experience, most people with be honoured and ecstatic to have you at least trying to talk to them in their language. I wish you good luck!

Thank you Jaybells:D:D:D:D:D:D

Languages & culture are some of my favorite things in the world.  I really wanna start learning more, but I'mma hold off on that until I get a solid base in Japanese... but like... languages are AMAZING. Even before I realized I loved learning foreign languages English just absolutely fascinated me.  (And probably most people on here, being that Cricket is about reading and writing... I was thinking last night, at around one in the morning while I was reviewing some of my flashcards that I just know that languages and stuff are gonna be a huge part of my future.  My therapist says I should focus on school more because it gives me the skills I need for my future, but Japanese does all that and more.  Problem-solving, independance, perseverance, Japanese itself can be used for hundreds of things, everything my family says I need to work on.  (And if anyone ever tries to hire me to do something related to science and math... haha, they're absolutely insane.)  It does get lonely, though, because with Japanese it's what makes me the happiest and something I work for... basically what I focus on most usually, and with something that important to me it kind of sucks that no one I know in person really cares that much about language.  I did sign up for HiNative to try to expand my ability with native speakers.  I'm not sure how reliable the community is, being that I saw someone on there, trying to correct other people's English sentences, who didn't know the difference between "you're" and "your," but I'mma give it a shot.

Yeah, honestly, that's great!

I would suggest you balance, but I'm pretty sure you've probably heard that before. It's just important to appear well-rounded, even if your passion is languages. On the other hand, I totally agree. I don't do badly in school, but I'm not consistently as good in any other class as I am in languages. They are also incredibly useful, whether that be comminicating with others by chance, or being hired as a translator, etc.

It's always a bit sad when I see people being dissuaded from persuing a passion that is a bit niche in their community, meaning it seems like no one else enjoys that particular interest. I'm sorta unfamiliar with that, since I'm more of a loner and tend to use books/internet and have learned more as a necessity rather than pure joy or comrodary or whatever, but I imagine it's pretty difficult. Fortunantly, I have a friend who enjoys Japanese, and the same games, manga/hwa/hua and shows that I do; I've also found people who share a love for the same characters as me, as well as my favourite fandoms and all that. I wish everyone had that and more, so I hope you manage to find a specific place/people where you feel like you can fit in and thrive, doing what you love.

Good luck!

Aww, poor Kitty Cat :(

*pats head*

Ah, that reminds me, I went to a cat-café today and it was so much fun! The food was good (the waitress accidentally spilled miso soup on my broken foot but... it was fine...), the cats were cuuute, it was all-around a pretty wonderful experience!

*continues to try to cheer up Kitty Cat*

Thank you for the head pats Jaybells...

I love cat cafes! It's where my friends and I hang out a lot! I love miso soup and Mochi is one of my favorite things to have there (even though I make it at home all the time) lol

THANKS FOR THE CHEER UPS JAY! YOUR SO GOOD AT IT!

're welcome! ;P

Also mochi is actually, scientifically* one of the top 5 most delicious foods. So. There.

Also, also I had a matcha latte at the cat-café (with a base of milk instead of coffee) and MMMM IT WAS ONE IF THE MOST DELICIOUS BEVERAGES I'VE EVER HAD. Legit, it is sort of worrying how much I love that stuff. In bread, tea, lattes, seaweed... Yea, you get it. And sorry, I felt a very strong urge to share this.

* = Not "real" science, of course, but rather the very subjective taste-tests conducted by a middle-schooler in their kitchen on a Wednesday night

I'm 12 winters ( winters sounds SO much better than years ) I'm a book nerd and read ALL the time. I also love animals especially wolves and dogs and red pandas and chickens and tigers and cats and bears and heh yeah I love animals. My favorite books are a wolf called wander, wings of fire, warriors, narnia, Willa of the wood,, the Penderwicks, and snow and rose. Oh gosh and the hunger games! I can't forget that. My favorite color is teal. I'm very adventurous and a Tomboy. The last time I wore a dress was my aunt's wedding like 5 years ago. Actually that might have been the only time XD. I have two cats and a very amazing dog named banjo. I play the piano and know some Spanish and pig Latin. I love drawing especially animals. I rock climb and play soccer. I gotta go now but if I can think of anything else I will add it later!

Hi... I'm Hex.

I consider myself a bookworm (actually, I like bookwyrm better, cause wyrms are dragons, but it's not spelled that way so...). I'm sustaining a pace on average of slightly more than a book a day, and I'm very proud of that (:

I'm kind of like Jaybells, a introverted tomboy who is definitely a maniac. I like reading (only fantasy and fiction), origami, puzzles (all kinds), and sports (I do soccer, basketball, swimming, and tennis).

Seeing as I don't know what else to write, here are some random quirks. I really hate the sound of fingers rubbing carpet (no, I don't know why). I also dislike most people who polish their white shoes regularly (no offense, anyone, you might be an exception). I firmly believe a fruit salad must contain three or more different kinds of fruits to be a fruit salad.

... I still have no idea what to say. How about this. If you have something you want to know about me more, just reply and ask and I'll respond. Well, I'll try to respond. To be honest I'll probably forget. But DETAILS

Hi Hex!

I'm MoonKitten, as you can see, and I am totally an introvert-tomboy-maniac too. What's your favorite (or some of your favorite ;D) book? I do tennis too! I've also played soccer and basketball, but sports aren't really my thing in general.

Anyway, nice to meet you!
