Story Chain!

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Story Chain!

Story Chain!

I think it would be fun to start a story chain. Each person can write a sentence or paragraph to the story. I'll begin...

Kelsey Rose woke up and sighed. It was the first day of school in a new town...

Ok, you continue the story. Don't be afraid to add mythical creatures, or wild adventures to the story.

This whole use-the-girl-for-whatever-your-motive-thing was SERIOUSLY starting to get on my nerves. But after hearing the story, I felt myself melting, despite my attempts at staying firm. When he asked if we could help find his brother, I was on the verge of saying yes, when Sophie cut me off, saying I had to train. Of course I knew she was right, still, that didn't make me any less sad. And awkward silence decenced, until someone cleared their throat, and Iggy stood in the doorway. I was frankly, shocked to see him. It was a boy of about twelve or thirteen, with shaggy black hair and pale skin. He stood and stared at us, yet something was unnerving. Something wasn't right. His eyes were glazed over, and he concealed something in his hand. I was about to say something, when he hurled the object at me, knocking me to the ground...

So, what the heck did Iggy just throw at Kelsey?

The pain shot through my shoulder as I fell. Then, everything went black.

A while later I woke up on the floor with nobody around. I started to get up, but fell back due to an intense pain. "Sophie. Frank," I called into the darkness. Nobody answered. That was when I saw a 20-pound shotput ball that Iggy threw at me. "How could he do this after all we've been through?" I thought. I tried once again to get up and I was able to hobble out of the room.

As I opened the door, a state of destruction met my eyes. Pillows were scattered on the ground and glass was everywhere. Sophie and Frank were nowhere in sight. I looked at the electronic calender that told me it was three days after Iggy threw the ball at me. That was the moment when I realized Sophe and Frank were either kidnapped or in hiding. I had to find them because without them I was vulnerable to Amnester and Meredith.

I found a knapsack and filled it with food, water and a map. Then, I ran out the door.

So, where are Frank and Sophie? Are they in danger or hurt? Only you can tell me that!

Daadadadaaaaa! I shall tell you that!

I was sick with fear, stumbling through the woods. Branches slapped my face, giving me multiple bleeding cuts on my face. My shoulder throbbed, and I was continually tripping. I suddenly tripped, and in attempt to regain my balance, face planted into a tree. "Ow," I said, rubbing my forehead. "What's the big idea?" a voice said. I spun around, looking for the source. Then, from what I could see, a girl dissolved from the tree. A dryad. "Who are you?" I asked, staring at the girl. She drew herself up to full height, and I thought she was going to give me a beautiful, dignified name when she said, "Oatmeal." "Wait, what?" I asked, sure I absolutely had NOT just heard a dryad call herself Oatmeal. "Oatmeal," she said again. A dryad named Oatmeal. Wow, okay. "Right, I'll just be going," I said, then plummeted several feet.

When I came to, I was staring at a vast underground city that reminded me of India Cliff dwellings. "Welcome to Utopia!" a voice said. And I was now staring up into the face of a panther. Could this day really get any worse? How wrong I was. For I was suddenly hoisted up in the air by one ankle. "Enjoy your stay!" the panther said, trotting away.

Okay, so this is taking a bizarre twist, and we still don't know where Sophie and Frank are, but really, when this popped in my head, I couldn't resist!

Warning this is Alice and Ilene's part. We haven't done this side in a while, and I didn't want anyone confused.

"So what are you going to have Kelsey do next?" Ilene asked alice taking a huge bite out of her sandwhich. "I have no idea. So far all I know is that I have a major case of writers block." Alice replied. "Hey, you guys talking about me again?" the real Frank asked setting his tray down on the table. "No, but you wish. We're talking about Alice's story that she's writing. Why don't you take a look?" Ilene handed frank Alice's notebook. "Um no ofense, but I don't want you reading that," Alice said trying to grab it back. "Sorry but I'm reading it. Every single word. Hey, it's not my fault you think I'm so amazing you named a character after me," Frank declared. Alice tried objecting to him reading it again, but he held up his hand, and started reading. Five minutes passed before Frank stopped reading. "Can I give this back to you after school? It's really good, but I still don't see my wonderful character yet, and it's way too thick for me to finish within just lunch," he asked putting the book to the side. Ilene answered him, "Sure, so long as you don't change anything including the notebook's condition, and help us come up with what's next." "Deal," he stated, shaking their hands.

At the end of the day he came back and gave Alice back the notebook. "I like it, except you didn't portray my character well enough. Not only does he not look anything like me, but he's not that awesome." "I never said the character was named after you. In fact when I came up with the name, I wasn't even thinking of you. What do you think I should do next though?"Alice asked. "Make Kelsey run into some people she knows from school or something. Your story mentions her leaving, but it doesn't mention her friends and families reaction to it. You might not need to make them worried, but do something. Maybe they could be hiking in the woods, and find her that way. I don't know though, it's up to you. Feel free to do something different," he said. "Maybe, thanks, oh and bye." Alice then turned to leave. "Bye," he replied. Now all she had to do was take his suggestion into consideration, and figure out what to do next.

Back at my house, my parents and brother Andy finished eating breakfast. Then, each went their separate ways to either school or work. Everyone assumed that I was already at school, safe and sound. Boy, were they ever wrong!
********************

Meanwhile, the panther who had my leg ran through a thick jungle. Brush and vines whipped by, some cutting my arms and legs. All of a sudden, the panther released me and I tumbled down a ravine.
In the pit, I noticed a cave that was darker than the night sky. I tentatively peeked in and bats rushed out. Screaming, I fell back and landed on a hot pink plastic crown. Yes, hot pink. Squinting through the afternoon sunlight I saw a small inscription that read: To my baby, Sophie.
I jumped up, excited by the clue. Sophie and Frank were here! Then, I frowned. If Sophie and Frank were here that meant I'd have to wander through the cave by myself. Shuddering, I picked up my flashlight and ventured into the cave.

I followed the twisting and turning of the passage. It became darker and darker. It oppressed me, almost choking me. I felt my as if I couldn't move. Only the thought of Sophie and Frank kept me from collapsing. My shoulder still throbbed, so I held my flashlight with my right arm, letting my left dangle uselessly. I feared if I had to fight, I'd probably loose. The temperature kept switching, freezing, to the point I felt frost on my arms, then burning so badly my skin seared painfully.

Finally, the tunnel widened, and the temperature leveled out. I came to a heavy mist. As I got closer, my lugs started burning. I started choking, and my body hurt horribly. I shut my mouth, and started running. The tunnel then decided to narrow to the point I wondered if I could make it through. My bad arm hit painfully against the stone wall. I was about to pass out. Just as I was collapsing, I burst into a chamber.

After coughing, choking, and heaving for several minutes, I could finally sit up and see clearly. The chamber was beautiful. Rare stones were embedded in the walls, gently glistening in a light whose sorce I could not find. Rubys, emeralds, saphires, and simple courtz met my eyes, and for a moment, my breath was taken again. Suddenly I noticed something in the middle of the cavern.

I limped forward, and at the sight, my knees buckled, and I dropped next to Frank and Sophie. Both were lying still, hands over their chest, skin pale and cold. They looked as if they were in their coffins. "Frank, Sophie, help. Please! Get up! Please." On the last word, my voice broke, and tears cascaded down my cheeks. They couldn't be dead. They couldn't be. As my tears streamed down, the stones, already shining, began to shine even brighter...

Taday! So, yes, Frank and Sophie are dead. What now?

(April 6, 2013 - 5:50 pm)

Oh no! They are both dead! How will Kelsey survive?

*************************************************************************************

Then, I heard a voice. "Kelsey, don't cry. Everything will work out," the voice comforted. "Wh-ooo are you?" I said.

"Kelsey, I'm surprised! It's me, Sophie" the so-called 'Sophie' said. "But, you are dead!" I cried.

"I may be dead but the power of friendship is powerful. So powerful that I still have the ability to talk to you like we did at Amnester's lair," Sophie explained. I dried my tears. " Well OK then," I said. " What do I do now?"

"You need to find Amnester or Iggy. They are both teamed up together. Get rid of the magic that holds Amnester," Sophie went on.

"Ok," I said as I packed up my bag. Then, I raced out into the wilderness, ready to find Amnester!

I was a little surprised to find that the the cave emptied out into a serene forest with a little pond in the middle of a cluster of trees. Another reason I wanted to find Amnester, maybe Frank and Sophie weren't completely dead. I mean, Sophie could talk to me now, as she was right now, chattering on about some sort of pig thing that would be "handy if I could manage to find it without being gored to death." But maybe they could really live, flesh and blood. I pushed on. After an hour or so of hiking (I was glad I had decided to wear camo hiking stuff,) on rugged terrain. Sophie continued chattering at me. I was mostly glad, for it confirmed that she was still there, and helped me keep going. I think she knew that, for she chattered about the most random stuff.

After a while, I hear a faint beating. I looked up, and suddenly, something crashed right next to me. It was a giant, horned golden, pig. It snorted and pawed the ground. I was dead.

So, Sofie and Frank may come back, and Kelsey's facing a giant pig. What now?

Until it crashed itself into a tree. I wasn't so sure I was going to die anymore. The pig shook its head, and I soon realized why it had crashed so badly. One of its purple wings was torn. Then it turned towards me and narrowed its eyes. Yup, I was now dead. Fearfully I stepped backwards, but then realized that was a horrible idea. Trying to cover up the terror I had already displayed, I stood up straight, crossed my arms, and narrowed my eyes back. Apparently I passed the pigs' test, because it then sat back on its hind legs and lifted its wing, asking me to help it. This was a good time for me to be glad I knew how to sew. I took out the needle and fishing line that would have to do. "Hey, not so little piggy. If you want your wing to heal, you're going to have to let me sew it back together again. It'll hurt, but I can't do anything about that. Just please don't skewer me on your horns. Please," I said politely yet nervously. I then fixed the pig's wing. I have to admit, I didn't think it'd be such a good sport, but the pig let me fix its feathery wings and listened to all my horrible jokes without anything more than a squirm. "So," I asked, "what do you think of Amn-" "Sqeeeeeeeeek!!!" the pig suddenly squealed baring its teeth at me and pawing the ground at my direction this time. "Don't worry, I hate him too! He murdered my friends, I was just wondering what you thought, and if you'd maybe help me stop him!" I quickly yelled before I died. The pig calmed down a little after that, though it was still agitated. "Would you please help me?" I asked. The pig just snorted, and indicated its wing. That was probably why the wing was torn in the first place. "Well do you know someone who could?" I inquired. It got up and walked away. I took that as a yes and started following it.

So, what's gonna happen next? I'm guessing a new character is going to have to be involved. I hope you don't mind, but it seems a bit necessary.

captcha says warr. Umm, I don't think a war is going to happen. At least not yet.

Agreed. Supporting characters are handy anyway. Plus, I got the pig from Greek mythology. I evidently read way too much Percy Jackson.

I followed out of the junglelike surroundings, into a sunny, more spacious forest. Sunlight slanted down through the branches. Here the pig stopped, turned, and looked at me expectantly. "What?" I demanded. "Call them," the pig replied calmly. "Who?" I asked, curiosity betrayed in my voice. "Your bretheren," the pig replied. I started. "Wait, like my parents and little brother? 'Cause I doubt they would be much help..." "No, no!" The pig said impatiently. "Your bretheren as in other linixies." My jaw dropped. "I... I thought we were rare," I stammered. "You are, but this is a secret linixie community. They'll recognize a fellow sister." The pig again just stared at me expectantly. I gulped, and stepped forward. "Um, hi." Oh yeah, THAT'LL get their attention. I closed my eyes, and pictured Sophie pushing me on. I smiled, then opened my eyes. "Attention fellow linixies. I need your help. Amnester threatens us. He's already taken my two best friends, and he'll kill us all if we don't stop him. I ask, no, I plead for your help. Nothing will stop him, except the united power of linixies. I say we band together and FIGHT! Fight for our safety, our friends and families safety, and our RIGHT to be free!" (Okay, going American Revolution geek on ya'll). I waited.

So, Marina, your captcha was right, maybe there WILL be a war...

Ten minutes passed, and I was still patiently waiting. Well, as patiently as a hungry lion.

Suddenly, I heard a rustle to my right. Then, to my left. "Are we under attack?" I asked. "Yes. Wait no. Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Uhhh...maybe?" The pig debated with himself. I rolled my eyes.

I waited in silence, then someone sneezed. "Shh...That could be Amnester dressed as a linixie. You know he tried to capture one." a voice admonished.

The pig and I backed into the center of the clearing. "Sophie, should I call out to them?" I thought. "Yes" she said.

"I know you are back there guys. Please come out. I'm a linixie too" I called.

One linixie after another slowly creeped out of the bushes. Some of them literally. Then, we stared at each other until the pig nudged me.

"Uhh... hi. I'm Kelsey Rose. Yes, I am an authentic linixie and I need your help. I called you together today beca..."

"Wait for me guys! Come on, wait for me!" a boy cried out as he tumbled through the bushes. He had scruffy hair, lopsided glasses and a bag slung over his shoulders. We all met him with a stare of surprise and annoyance. The boy then looked ashamed and mumbled, "Ooops. Sorry, I messed up again". He turned around to leave.

"Wait!" I said. He turned to look at me, his cheeks bright pink. "I'm Kelsey! What is your name?" I asked.  "I'm Finn" Finn said. "Well, why don't you join us, Finn?" I smiled at him. We wandered back to the group.

"As I was saying Amnester is more dangerous than ever and we must stop him. He does have accomplices: Iggy, Meridth and many others. We've got to stop him!"

The linixies applauded. "How will we stop him?" one linixie shouted.

"Well, I'm not sure yet, but something will work out. I was thinking the most effective way would be a battle. Who's with me!"

The linixies didn't respond, not even a smile met my eyes. Then, Finn stepped towards me, "I am!" Each linixie followed after him.

"Ok, here's the plan..."
