Story Chain!

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Story Chain!

Story Chain!

I think it would be fun to start a story chain. Each person can write a sentence or paragraph to the story. I'll begin...

Kelsey Rose woke up and sighed. It was the first day of school in a new town...

Ok, you continue the story. Don't be afraid to add mythical creatures, or wild adventures to the story.

I was pleased that they were ready and willing to help. I supposed they had old grudges against Amnester too.

"So here's the plan. Amnester has his fortress strongly surrounded by enchantments and whatnot. And like I said, he has other followers. So we'll have to slip by. Once we're in, we have to make our way to the center. Once in there, I've little doubt we'll have to fight. Whether it's when we reach Amnester, or if we're spotted. Either one is likely to happen. I doubt Amnester will simply back down, even when he sees our numbers. We'll divide into units. One will be scouts, and look around and for a way in. Can anyone here turn invisible or something?" Several hands went up. "Great, you'll be squad one. Next, we'll need some people who are good with technics, disenchanting things." Several more hands went up. "Good, then you're squad two. And finally, I need strong fighters. People who are willing to put it all one the line. To charge forth, and finally STOP Amnester, ONCE AND FOR ALL!" The rest of everyone's hands went up. I stood erect, and looked out at them. "All ready to stop Amnester, step forward." Everyone did. "Today, we fight for our freedom! Down with Amnester!" Everyone cheered, then flew off to gather supplies. "Good job," the pig nodded approvingly. "I will help too. I've got a bone to pick with that twit of an assistant of his, Merideth." I smiled at this. The idea of those two going head to head was almost comical.

Let the battle begin!

We marched across the land, well some of us flew. As we went along new volunteers joined us, some of fairy, troll and gnome backgrounds. It took about two days to reach our destination. Since it was nearly evening, we set up camp and rested for the long day ahead of us.

As I was cooking my supper of things that taste like hotdogs, or what they call moon dumplings, an old man wobbled to our camp. "I heard you were fighting against Amnester tomorrow. I have a few things I'd like to settle with him. Do you mind if I join you?", he said.  I eagerly agreed knowing that the more forces we had the better.

I slept under the stars on that clear night, surrounded by supporters. It was amazing what had happened to me in the last few weeks. I was a whole new person.

Around 4, the old man woke me up saying that he had found the perfect spot to attack. He lead me through the think pine forest until we reached a small hut. It did not look like a good place to attack, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

"Umm... I think that this would be the perfect place to store our supplies, but I think we should attack closer" I told him. He nodded then looked at me with a glimmer in his eyes. An evil glimmer.

"So, Kelsey, was there something you wanted to tell your dear old friend Amnester?" he cackled. I shivered; I was tricked and caught in my own trap. "Just join me and give me your powers. Then, we won't have to go through with this battle", he said as he lunged at my arm."Heeeeelp!" I screamed as he grabbed it, but no one heard me in the early morning light.

Uh, sorry. SO busy. I'm going to finally write the next piece!

When he grabbed me, pain shot through my arm and arced through my body. It felt like a hot current surging through me. My knees buckled, and I nearly blacked out. He let go, and my whole body went limp. Everything was a haze. I could vaguely see Amnester's outline, now that he was in his normal form. Suddenly the room melted away, and we were in a domed room with windows for the ceiling. My strength was slowly returning, but not fast enough.

"We can see your entire, pathetic army from here!" Amnester said with delight. "But I've a plan to wipe them all out." Anger surged through me, giving me some strength, and helping me to block out the pain. I sat up, then rose to my feet. I felt something heavy appear in my hand. My sword. I leveled it at Amnester, which really didn't seem to faze him. He cocked his head, still smiling. "I'll make a bargain with you," he said with confidence. "Not likely," I growled. Instead of answering, he waved his hand. In a flash of fire, Frank and Sophie stood before me, well and alive. Frank looked slightly bewildered, but Sophie took one glance at me, and instantly caught on. She gave a nod.  "Call off the attack, and I'll let them live." Suddenly, Frank and Sophie stiffened, their arms pressed to their sides, like they were tied up. "Your choice," Amnester said.

What will Kelsey choose? Cappie says dymo. I think he's rooting for dynamite. I like explosives too, Cappie.

My mind went numb. The two choices swirled around in my head. It was either fight Amnester or save my friends.

Do I trust Amnester to keep his word? If I call off the attack Amnester will still be around harming the good creatures of this planet, but if I don't we risk losing. If we win my friends will still be gone forever. What would Sophie and Frank want me to do?

I couldn't communicate with Sophie to discuss my predicament because Amnester's powers were so great that it cut off all communication. It was up to me to make the hardest choice I had ever made in my life, and I couldn't even count on someone to help me.

"Well, Kelsey, have you made your choice?" he smirked. "Yes, I have. We are going into battle" I announced confidently. His face turned ashen obviously not expecting me to make this decision. "What?!?" he yelped. "I said I am leaving my friends and going into battle", I smiled. I knew this was the choice that would make everyone proud.

Has anyone noticed that at first we wrote in third person, but now we are writing in first?

Yeah, I noticed that too. Hmm. Interesting.

Then, before Amnester could really think much anymore, I ran over to the window, and gave the loudest whistle I could possibly muster. Amnester yanked me back. Out of the corner of my eye, I could still see Frank and Sophie, suspended in time. A moment of dead silence. Then a battle cry erupted from the woods, picking up from all over. I grinned.

"It's all over!" I said gleefully. And it was. He couldn't win this battle. It just wasn't possible. "Not yet," he growled in a way that scared me. "But maybe for you." Then he did something I hadn't expected. He knocked me away, and moved over toward Sophie and Frank. "You nor I can call off this attack now," he said, his voice desperate. "But I can still bend you to my will. These two," he gestured at Sophie and Frank, "were never dead, despite what you three think." He waved his hand. Suddenly, Sophie and Frank stood there. Really. They both gasped and staggered, collapsing to their knees. They were pale, and evidently weak. "I'll do whatever to them, if you don't cooperate." I groaned inwardly. Really, how hard does this guy have to make it? Can't he just give up already? Is it REALLY that hard? But of course that I didn't voice that. I took a deep breath, and something overcame me. I freed it. It was like I had been surpressing myself all along, and now I embraced it. My wings came into existence. I could feel power surging through my fingertips. Amnester seemed surprised. I suppose he didn't know just how powerful linixies really were. I waved a hand toward Frank and Sohpie, enclosing them in a slightly hazy golden sphere. "Now it's between you and me," I said, looking at Amnester. And our fight began.

So what happens next?

Honestly, Amnester was weak in strength. I could easily knock him down with a push becasue of my training that Frank insisted I complete. I was weak on strategy while he excelled.

We mostly wrestled until I realized we weren't going anywhere. So, I pulled out the sword and waved it at him. Suddenly, he looked scared and turned white. "Please don't kill me, please don't kill me" he begged. I looked at him, remembering all the times he fooled me, yet I couldn't bring myself to stab him. As I hesitated, I glanced at Sophie and Frank. They depended on me. I sighed and wondered how I got myself into this mess.

Suddenly, I heard a shrill whistle. Looking around I saw no one; even Amnester looked puzzled. Then, Iggy, his uncle and Meredith walked in and handcuffed me in a matter of a second. Amnester smirked once again. He did plan this and I could do nothing to stop him.

I was ready to spit and fire, and a few choice words at Amnester, and probably would have, had they not gagged me and forced me onto my knees. I glanced over at Sophie and Frank. The protective sphere remained. Well at least I can do that much, I thought miserably. They were starting to rouse. Sophie got onto her knees and looked up, straight at me. Her eyes grew big, and she started to try to get up. I gave the slightest shake of my head, telling her don't. Amnester picked up my sword, which had fallen yet hadn't disappeared like it usually did, and pointed it under my chin, forcing me to look up at him. I glowered, and, though this likely did absolutely nothing, stuck my tongue out at him.

"You are going to die here," he said. His voice cold and quiet. He didn't look to be lacking strenght now. "You're army will fail, and there is nothing you can do." He pulled the sword back, and examined it. "Sharp blade," he mused. "Let's see just how strong it is." He swung at the gold sphere, Sophie shrank back against the now alert Frank, but nothing happened. It held. Amnester turned and glared at me, though I couldn't help smirking. Though I was smiling for long. Hiss! The blade sliced through the air and my shoulder, causing me to cry out in pain. My whole right arm felt like it was on fire, and I realized the blade some acid in it as well. The pain slowly began creeping across my whole body. My vision blurred. I could see Sophie and Frank's panicked looks, and hear Amnester chuckle. But it was all fading away. I was dying, and I knew it, as did everyone else in that room. My body sank to the floor, my body suffering and agonizing, slow death. I shut my eyes, though still semi concious of everything, and waited for death to come. I failed, I thought, as the pain crept on.

Oh wow! I'm not sure where to turn now, but I don't think the main character can die at least yet.

************************************************************************

I fell into a black abyss. Images flashed through my mind: my family, learning I was a linixie, training, and battle. Then, everything went totally blank.

I woke up to a voice saying "She's awake, she's awake". Faces surrounded me at my bedside. "Sweety. Are you alright?" someone asked. My vision was still blurry and my thoughts were jumbled. A new voice came in. "She's still confused after the attack. Let her be for now". Attack? Oh yeah, Amnester, I thought. I rested for a few minutes as my head cleared. With my eyes still closed I asked, "Where is Amnester?" "Who, sweety?" the voice asked. Sweety? Nobody ever called me 'sweety' except... "Mom?" I whispered as my eyes flew open. Her eyes brimmed with fresh tears, "Yes Kelsey. I'm here". She leaned in to hug me.

A nurse walked into the white room. "Oh, good. You're feeling better after that attack?" she asked. I nodded still confused. She came to me and unwrapped a bandage on my arm. "Well, you're getting better after that bear attacked you. I'd say..." I didn't let her go on. "BEAR ATTACK??? THIS WAS AMNESTER!!!" I screeched. She looked startled and confused at my sudden outburst. "No, honey. A bear attacked you on your way to school. You were knocked out for about eight hours before authorities found you in the woods. You were lucky to survive".

I fell back onto my pillow. So, I am not a linixie. Sophie and Frank were a part of my imagination. Amnester was never real and neither was Meredith and Iggy. I was shocked by the news.

The nurse led my parents outside to update them on my well being, but I heard every word she said. "Your daughter is going to need surgery on her arm and shoulder. If the operation doesn't work, we must amputate her arm," the nurse said. My mother gasped and started to cry once again. My father started to ask questions.

Kelsey Rose, a voice stated inside my head. "Sophie? She isn't real," I thought. Yes I am real, and no bear did ever attack you. It was Amnester. I'm sorry I scared you, but I knew you wouldn't die. Linixies can not die in this world, they are only transferred to where they belong. You are able to come back, if you want, but I warn you if you stay too long in the human world, we will lose communication. Please come back when you are ready by going to the same spot Frank found you. I hope to see you soon.

Alright there are a couple options for us now. We can a) continue the story, b) finish the story, or c) finish the story and write a sequel. What do you want to do?

Well there's also an option d). Finish the story as if there was a sequel, but don't write one. I have no idea though on what we should do, I kinda like option b, but I don't know.

I vote we finish the story! And yeah, I'm really bad about writing stuff like that. I get great ideas, then leave it at a cliff hanger, then run out, and am not sure what the heck to do. Sorry! But yeah, I loved our character and where it was going! Especially Sofie! But we could stop and write a sequel where she decides to go back! But I'll leave it up to ya'll!
