Name: Elizabeth Drandle (prefers Lizzie)

Apperance: Wavy, brown hair, blue eyes, medium height

Age: 12

Personality: Quirky, kind, funnny

Other: I don't have anything else, but you might.

Enjoy!

Shadowsoul's eyes widened as one of the girls passed out. Once, the commotion had died down a little, one of the other druids stood up.

" Why is there a shadow horse here?" the druid said calmly, but with a stony look.

" Well, she's my way of getting around," the girl on Shadowsoul's back replied, sounding a little scared. Frightened, perhaps.

" You shouldn't be riding her," the druid's eyes narrowed.

" Why not?" the girl asked.

" Because she is from the shadow lord! She must be killed!" yelled the girl who made the other girl passed out. The girl on Shadowsoul's back gasped.

" Kill her!" the girl screamed. The girl on Shadowsoul's back screamed," No! You can't!" Shadowsoul reared, neighing. The girl fell off of Shadowsoul.

" I'm sorry!" Shadowsoul whinnied to the girl. She whirled around, and her eyes dilated as the trees started to tighten.

" You wanna play with magic. You got yourself a magic game," Shadowsoul growled in her head, as she ran to the trees, when she suddenly disappeared. A few yards into the trees, everyone in the Druid Council Ring saw Shadowsoul reappear, but then disappear from their line of sight.

Earane stood up angrily. " Elpama! You know the shadow horses switched sides in the Great War!"

"And I do not care!" snarled Elpama," Begone, even you, Earane, you wench!"

The other druids gasped. Simon didn't know the enormity of the offense. Earane's eyes narrowed.

"NEVER-" Earane snarled as water from the nearby stream froze Elpama's legs, "CALL ME A WENCH!"

Elpama fell silent.  The other druids freed Elpama, muttering things like, 'Elpama, what were you doing?' 'Scrub oak.' 'Be kind to guests.'

Elpama glared and slid her mask on, storming out of the glade.

"What did you want to ask us?" a druid boy sighed.

The girl that fell off the horse, Lizzie I think or maybe not, lay there looking shocked I made myself human and helped her up.

"Thanks!" she gasped "I must have gotton the wind knocked out of me!" Raven looked around nervously

"What are we going to do now?" she said "We didn't exactly get more advice it just made this whole thing more confusing."

Earne looked at the setting sun "We should find somewhere to sleep for the night, it's getting dark." Since there was no settlement for miles around they decided just to sleep there. Raven gave her cloak to the girl from the portal. "I have fur." she said to her questioning look and curled up in wolf form.

Artha~

I came back to consciousness to realize that Simon was bending over me and waving something foul under my nose. I sat up with a shock and recoiled. "What is that?" I demanded.

"Gym sock," he replied laconically, standing up. I had never heard of a gym before, but if it involved smells like that, I was glad my associations with such things had been kept to a minimum.

Earane and Lizzie were talking in low tones to each other on the other side of the clearing, while Raven curled up in her wolf form, growling low in her throat. All the other druids were gone and trees were calm again, though still watchful. Shadowsoul had disappeared and my horse had bolted. "So what do we do now?" Lizzie asked, looking up.

I stood and stretched out my bruised limbs. "No sympathy from the druids. I couldn't even explain anything!" I cried angrily. "Lot of help that was! That Elpama didn't even give me a chance!"

"It is the greatest flaw of our people to forget slowly what would have been better to bury. But don't worry; it sounded like Shadowsoul would bring some magic of her own. There's hope yet," said Raven without opening her eyes. "In fact"--her nose shot in the air. "That might be her returning now."

Simon looked at Artha grimly as the tree roots receded. "The druids have reason to be wary of the Winterlings. Earane, show her your foot."

Earane  sighed and took off her shoe. Except their was no foot. The carved wood lookedlike a foot, but it wasn't.

"I-I'm sorry......" Artha trailed off.

Something moved in the bushes. Earane snuffed out the fire with a glance. "Don't move!" she whispered.

After leaving the Druid Council Circle, Shadowsoul wandered around for a bit.

I can't just leave them there. Besides, that boy must be the knight. After all, why do I keep having images of him in armor? You gotta go back... But what about Milo?

Shadowsoul needed the answers. But she could always find him later. Shadowsoul whirled around, scented the air for the kids, and dashed to them. When she parted through the bushes, the kids looked like they were preparing to bolt. They all relaxed realizing it was just Shadowsoul. They continued to talk, meanwhile, the one girl, Earane, was looking intensely at the bushes, as if something else was there. Shadowsoul glanced at the boy, Simon, she learned his name was, and every time she thought that he was the knight, it looked like he really was.

" Guys.. I don't think Shadowsoul was the only one rustling the bushes," Earane whispered. Shadowsoul trotted over to the bushes, when a large horse, just like Shadowsoul leaped out, neighing angrily.

That isn't Milo. Was the only thing going through Shadowsoul's head.

Before I write, I'd like to say one thing. Earane is not modern. She wouldn't say 'guys' or 'cutie'. She would say something more like, 'silence! something stirs in the bushes' or 'you are a noble steed.' She also has had more experience fighting. She is not apt to show emotion (elf side of her) unless the situation is more dire. She is twenty, though she looks twelve (also, elf side).

Earane raised her staff, preparing to defend herself. Cold streamed from its top, making the other horse reel back. She made tree roots lash out and tether the horse.

"Halt!" she yelled at it.

Sorry about that Brooke.

Milo angrily snorted at being held so he was still. Shadowsoul trotted towards him, being cautious, knowing that this still wasn't Milo.

" Milo?" Shadowsoul whispered. The red gleam in the other horse's eyes slowly disappeared.

" Shadowsoul? It's you!" Milo tried to rear in his excitement, but couldn't.

" Guess these tree roots are stronger than I thought they were," Milo mumbled.

" Why did you storm in all angry?" Shadowsoul asked, confusion lacing her tone.

" The shadow lord is protective over his lives. So he made one of his live guardians, which is me, leap in, with anger clouding my thoughts, so that anything I would do would make harm come to those who aren't you. But I guess you aren't harmed, so..." Milo trailed off, his eyes down at the ground, suddenly acting as if the tree roots holding him were very interesting.

" Why didn't you tell me? I thought I was just a normal shadow horse. Not from the shadow lord, let alone one of his lives!" Shadowsoul whinnied out angrily.

" I'm sorry. It never really came into my mind. But now that you know, I think you really shouldn't be helping this kids with this whole big thing. It's dangerous. And if you die, part of the shadow lord dies. And trust me, you don't want him dead. People don't want a vicious, mindless ghost monster going around killing people, do they?"

Artha~

"Shadow lord? Ghost monster?" I groaned. "Wonderful, yet another enemy to worry about." Lizzie looked nervously at the other great horse with the strange eyes and stuck close to Simon.

Milo sniffed the air around me. "You are one of the Winters, are you not?" he asked.

"Yes, but I'm with the druids. Well, with the knight." I thought distastefully of Elpama.

"Milo, we need your help. The Winter King will be coming after the knight, and he has sent before him a legion of demons. The druids will not endanger themselves or form alliances with Artha, so we must turn elsewhere." Shadowsoul cast her huge dark head to look around the clearing and at the dark wood beyond. Milo's face suddenly went grave.

"If it is demons who are fighting for the King, it is a demon that needs to cast them down. Shadowsoul, we must find your maker. The Shadow Lord. You belong to him, you have the right to ask his assistence. I am afraid I can do nothing on my own, or even with the help of other horses."

" Well where would we find him?" Shadowsoul asked, her mind clouded with thoughts.

" Shadowsoul, every life the Shadow Lord puts into a creature that he creates as his own, knows the way back home, no matter where they are. Think back to all the places you've been in. All the places you've ran away from, evading the capturers, then running back to. Then you'll realize where home is," Milo said, as Shadowsoul shut her eyes.

" Don't you know where the Shadow Lord is?" Simon asked. Milo shook his large head.

" I am one of the Life Guardians. I guard the creatures he puts his lives into. When I have a feeling that one of the life creatures is in danger, I rush to them, and help them. I do not know where the Shadow Lord is. Only the lives that I protect know where their master is," Milo explained. Shadowsoul took a deep breath, and thought of all the places she's been in.

" Does anyone have a map?" Shadowsoul asked. Earane took out a map, and laid it on the ground. Shadowsoul looked at it, mumbling to herself. After a minute or two, she straightened herself.

" I know where the Shadow Lord is."

"Then we must make haste!" Earane said grimly. Lizzie and Simon got onto their horse. "I'll walk..." said Artha, knowing she wasn't exactly the team favorite. Shadowsoul bowed and allowed Earane to mount. "Come along Artha, you can ride with me."

Suddenly Elpama burst out of the bushes. "Hello, Winter...."

Oh great, now they were finding a shadow lord, that sounded lovley. Since she was part wolf she was good on a team, but finding the shadow lord? Shadows sereously creeped her out  maybe it was part of her animal instinct. As they ran she stayed close to Simon he was a knight after all, magic portals, shadow lords, and druid councils? It had been less than a week and yet she'd done more than she thought she would have done in a lifetime.

"We're getting close." said Shadowsoul Raven looked around nervously.

All this time, Shadowsoul had been wandering around in an arc, her entire life, and she never even knew it. There it was. A large cave, hidden away by close-knit trees. Earane slid off of Shadowsoul. The horse realized that the children would not come in. She trotted forward towards the cave.

" Good luck," Simon said, before Shadowsoul's wavy mane and tail disappeared into the darkness of the cave.

It was dark. Like really dark. Like, I-can't-see-my-own-hands-even-though-they-are-right-in-front-of-my-eyes dark. Shadowsoul thought there were things moving, darker than the dark, but she fought off the fear, and continued down. She was aware of the other tunnels, but kept straight ahead. She breathed in relief when she sensed the roof of the cave ascend upwards, and as she continued on, it opened up into a wide, circular area.

" If it isn't my last child."

Earane had just sat down when Elpama stepped out of the bushes. "Elpama!" she gasped, whirling around.

"Yes, it is I. Earane, you remember your best element, correct?"

"Of course. Water."

"That allows you to summon water creatures, yes?"

"Of course."

"Mine is air. No water in sight, is there, Earane?"

"No....." said Earane, not liking where this was going.

Elpama swirled her staff and clouds whirled down forming a horselike shape. "A windigo!" gasped Earane. Elpama smiled. "Yes. Au revoir." Elpama said, tree roots grabbing Artha. Arthga snarled and Simon tried hacking at the roots. Earane summoned a ball of fire. The tree roots appeared to be dragging Artha to the ground, when suddenly they threw her onto the windigo. Elpama laughed and jumped on, riding into the sky as Simon yelled.

*thank you Brooke, apparently the life of Artha Winter is not an easy one*

Artha~

With a grunt, I summoned all the powers of frost I knew and chanelled them at Elpama, but the air around her was so hot it immediately melted every bit of frost I could summon. Down on the ground, I could see Shadowsoul and Milo standing before a cave before they disappeared from sight and I was soaring high above Faeland, above parts that I had never even knew to exist. I was exhausted from the speed and from using the magic that wasn't helping me, and when the windigo finally dumped me and Elpama on some plateau, I was too dizzy to even stand up. Elpama stood above me, tearing the wooden mask off her face so I could see the ravaged bone beneath.

"This is where your maleficence ends, Winter," she sneered. I finally struggled to my feet, readying my ball of frost, not going to go down without a fight.

Then the cat sprang from behind me.

I whirled and leapt out of the way, but the huge cougar wasn't even aiming for me. His feral green eyes were fixed on Elpama. He tacked her to the ground, rolling and fighting wildly. The cougar's teeth and claws raked at the druid, but she was fighting right back, manipulating the air around her to parry and attack. They were getting nearer and nearer the edge, and with a final swipe of a massive paw, the wildcat swept her over the precipice. I stared in shock at the panting animal.

"Simon sent me," he managed to gasp out in a low, rasping voice. "The druid will threaten you no longer. Return to your friends; they are waiting for you at the Shadow Lord's cave."

(I had to include Simon's relationship to cats--it seemed too cool a thing to lose, and I am frankly sick and tired of being chased by Elpama.)
