Everland Island P

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Everland Island P

Everland Island Prison RP

Okay, so my Everlasting RP started eight days ago, and we voted first for genres, and then for plot ideas. However, two plot ideas tied for first.

Normally, in this situation there would be a runoff between the two, and I'm also aware that I said this would be the case. However, I fear that we are at serious risk of losing the people that have joined, because, quite frankly, this is taking a really long time. =)

Also, there are clearly enough people interested in both RPs to make them both work. This is a good thing! Two for the price of one!

Alias submitted the following idea, and it tied for first with four votes;

  In this world your three (or fewer) characters are on a prison-island. A few of these characters were unjustly imprisoned, but many deserve to be there. This is not just a story about heroes and good guys.

They are racing to get to a small enchanted ship that they have heard of -- though no one knows if it exists. Nobody has actually seen this ship. but stories say that it can only carry two people. This ship is also said to be the only escape from the prison-island.

Here's the thing; this is a prison for people with magical powers. The island is under an unbreakable spell that limits the characters' powers so severely that they're almost silly. Like if you have the power of conjuring flame, you can only conjure one as large as a gas stove would. Or if you can freeze something, it can't be bigger than an apple. (These are just examples.)

This is set in a medieval-type era. (But not necessarily Earth.) So, no cellphones, etc.

If you use more than one character for this, they should be on very noticeably different levels as far as good/evil.

The goal of these RPs is not to win! These are Everlasting RPs. If someone just wins, then they end! I someone does triumph, it should be a twist of the plot, not the high point in any way.

Let's try and make it about strong writers, not strong characters. Triumphs should be few and far between, something worthy of celebration. Make the story about challenges and defeats.

The character form is this:

Name:

 Age:

Appearance:

Power:

You'll notice that I left out backstory, other, and personality. This was on purpose. I think it will make for a more interesting to have our characters develop throughout, not just have a flat-out identity. No one really knows if the other one is good/evil. We have to figure it out.

Just to remind everybody, I'm going to state a few rules;

1. You can have no more than three characters at a time.

2. A character can be killed off and replaced. However, there must be two weeks (real time) between the creation of a character and the same character's replacement. This gives our characters time to develop, and hopefully compels us to commit to describing their place in this imaginary world.

3. No simple overpower-ed-ness, please! Cleverness, deceit, and luck, YES! Blatant ovepowering, not so much.

4. You do not have to have voted on the original thread to post on this.

5. You can join at any time.

Ryia~

My hand had healed, so I left my 'Paradise.' I also stumbled on a dragons cave who happened to hoard pearls. And now I'm running from the angry dragon.

I jump over a fallen tree and a few seconds later hear a crack as the dragon steps on it. The dragon is close, and I will Not die, much less by a dragon, much less on land. "Here goes," I mutter. With one swift action I unsheathe my cutlass, whirl around, and stab the blade into the dragon's chest, which was much closer then expected. "Okay, I'll make you a deal. You let me walk, with a scale of my choice, and as many pearls as I can carry, and I'll let you live."

The dragon lowers its massive head and looks into my eye. "I could roast you right now."

I glare at it, "I could kill you rigt now, and besides, I can't take them all...right?"

The dragons huffs, "Fine...deal."

I remove the cutlass and sheathe it. "Deal."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I Wave to the dragon before stuffing the pearls and carefully setting the scale atop of them, in my bag. "I won't tell anyone."
The dragon gives a snake-like smile, "Stop by anytime."
"See what not killing any person who 'stumbles' into your cave gets you?"
" 'Spose so...Sure you don't want a ride?"
"Yup, too many questions. Farewell noble dragon."
"Farewell fair...Pirate?"
"Oh don't get started, goodbye."
I leave and wave goodbye to the dragon once again; it's good to have a dragon friend, I assume. Then I begin my long hike home...not paradise home, not ocean home, tree home.
~Emi~
The girl starts chuckling in a low voice.
"What?" I ask the girl, my body tensing up.
"You're an Enforcer trainee," she says, laughing again. "An Enforcer trainee."
"I am completely aware I was an Enforcer trainee," I say, annoyed, and not sure why she finds it so funny. "Not anymore, though."
"But don't you see?" she says. "At one point, we were bitter enemies."
I frown. "You mean, you're an Assassin?" I mutter.
She smiles. "Oh, yes."
I take a deep breath, then say, "Well, according to the Enforcers, I'm an Assassin too. They say I killed my mother and my sister. Say I'm a traitor and a spy."
The girl raises her eyebrows. "ARE you a traitor and a spy?"
I shake my head. "I was framed."
~Niska~
The four of us sit down, each laying out what we have to trade. I lay out the blue bead bracelet, pressed herbs and petals, feather, and seashell out.
"Framed?" I say.
She nods, a quick, short movement.
A shame she wasn't really an Assassin. We could have been friends if she was.
Of course, she could have been lying, but I somehow doubted that.
"Framed by whom?" I say. I myself had never been framed. I'd framed countless others, but never been framed.
----
I made it short because I didn't know if you wanted to make up her backstory, Indigo.
Shade~
I loot through my backpack, and I flung items onto the table. A tooth of a wild cat-- Gave me a scar, that thing did--, some smooth blue rocks, The fur of that wild cat-- A very pretty golden sun color, if you ask me-- a few bird feathers, a small clay pot, and some gray cloths.
I look at Niska's items. A blue bead Bracelet, pressed herbs-- Ah! Pressed herbs! Now that's what I want. Nearly got sick from a infection a little while ago, and these herbs with help from getting another.
"Whatcha want for those herbs?" I ask her.
Ryia~
I trudge through the forest, my heavy pack digging into my shoulder. I set it down for a moment of relief and stretch. In that stretch moment, I hear voices. I hear the word trade, consider it for a moment, then grab a small handful of plain white pearls from my pack. I exit the brush and say, "Hello."
They all let out a yelp, then Niska, realizing its me, replies, "Oh...Hey Ryia."
I see her quickly grab a bracelet and hide under her knee. I raise an eyebrow, but say nothing and plop down next to them. I gently set the pearls in front of me and I hear the girls gasp. "I have seven pearls. I will trade you, Niska, three for your shell."
"Umm...," she says, gazing at the pearls longingly.
~Emi~
"Framed?" she says, quizically, as if uncertain what the word means.
I nod. There isn't anything to say to that, it is the short and the long of it.
"Framed by whom?" The other girl asks.
I frown, remembering. "By the Officer of my Training Troop. He and I . . .  disagreed . . . about some things. He was no longer justice-oriented, more interested in power than making sure the truth was told. That infuriated me. One day I came home after a long night of work. . . during which Officer Jenkins was gone . . . walked into my appartment . . . I found . . . "
Tears start rolling down my face, blurring my vision.
Ani, lying dead on the floor, stabbed through the heart. Her face was waxy and cold already, lacking the carefree sunshine it held in life. Her arms are limp, her mouth hanging open, forever screaming. She's wearing the red ribbon I gave her for her birthday. Next to her is Mother. Mother is still wearing her baking apron and her work dress, shock in her eyes.
~Niska~
"Umm . . . okay," I say. I hand her the shell, not meeting her eyes, and take the three perals. I curl my fingers around them and stuff them in one pocket, then turn to Shade. "For the herbs, I'd like the wild cat fur and the clay pot."
"Whoa whoa whoa that's a bit much for just a measly handful of herbs . . . how about just the pelt?" Shade haggles.
" No way!" I retort. "These are nonperishable herbs to stop infections, reduce colds, AND boost your health. Plus, they taste good."
"Really? If you're so sure, how about I try one?"
"Nu-nuh! No samples! These are rare, found only in secluded parts of the island!"
"Last chance- Pelt only. Otherwise, NO TRADE."
      I sigh. "Fine." I hand her the herbs and she hands me the pelt. It's beautiful and very soft, with no gashes or scars. It was skinned well, too, and won't be rough againest the skin. It will make a beautiful blanket, or cape, or dress, or boots, or ANYTHING!!
Lyssyra~
Arise and I walk into the town square, where Niska and Emi have just completed a trade. I walk up to Niska. She has her healing herbs, tried and true. We're running low on medicine, except golf the agni horn we kept, which helps stomach pains and eases nausea and stomach flu. Her herbs have purposes beyond that.
"Hey, can I have the herbs?" I ask. She is feeling puzzled, but it's fading fast, being replaced by the ordinary emotions. "What do you have?" she asks. "Well, being fresh out of hunting, we have an agni pelt, a horn (we kept the other one), agni steak, and some of your FAVORITE firefruit."
Niska eyes it. "I'll take the horn and a firefruit for the rest of these herbs," she says. It's not worth that, but...
"The horn and nothing more," I tell her. "Medicine for medicine. Your herbs are good, but a horn AND a firefruit? Not happening."
"Fine," she says. An air of annoyance and resignation hangs around her as she gives me the herbs and I give her the horn. The air lessens when she examines the horn. It's a fine specimen. The agni we got had long, pure white horns. The whiter a horn is, the more potent it is when ground up. A horn like this will last for quite a while. She looks agreed.
Arise~
Emi walks up to me. "You have firefruit?" she asks. "Yup," I tell her. "And I'll take that fine specimen of a clay pot for either two firefruit, a firefruit and firefruit drink, or two drinks." A firefruit drink is when I make a small ice bowl and Lyssyra minces a firefruit so well it's drinkable. Then we garnish it with something, anything we can get, from fresh mint to more coarsely chopped firefruit. The pot is largish, and we have quite a bit of firefruit. Also, Lyssyra and I are the only ones who know where it get firefruit and agni. If you don't get them from us, you don't get them at all.
Then I see Lyssyra coming. She has a basket of herbs, but no horn. I guess she traded it. "I'll take a fruit and a drink," Emi decides. I create a smallish ice vessel as Lyssyra takes the fruit and deals with that. In summer, when we serve it in ice bowls, it's a cool, refreshing, nutritious drink. In winter, served in rough wood bowls, the heat of the firefruit makes it a warm, spicy drink that warms you to the core as the cold wind whips along the island. The rains come, and the island is cold when winter comes.
After we give Emi her drink and fruit, we hang around, waiting for another customer.
Ryia~
I gently set the shell down next to the dragon scale, then close my pack and lift it up with a grunt. Then I leave my clearing and continue on my way toward home. I come upon my tree and smile, looking up at its grandeur, then frown. "How the heck am I supposed to climb with this pack on my back?" Then I smile again. "That was a rhyme." I reach a conclusion and leave my pack on the ground, then scurry up the tree. My metal hand slips a few times; it doesn't have much traction. I reach the top then push down the ladder. I sigh then head down it.
I look down, just a few more minutes (It's that big a tree, really) then I see the pack is gone. I gasp and look around. There, a person...with my pack!! I slide down the rest of the way, ignoring the rungs, then jam my feet just at the last rung, using my hands as brakes so I can still walk. Then I jump down and chase after the man.
It's a man alright, a large man. He has wide shoulders and looks to be more that 6 feet. And he's fast....really fast. I speed up my steps, leaping and ducking when I need to. I get whipped in the face with a sudden branch the man let fly. I wince and stumble, but quickly regain my footing. That was all he needed...now his fist..is in my gut. "Oof!" I slap him...pathetic I know, but it works, and he lets out a cry. I look up to him, he's a full head and shoulders taller than me..I can't get this guy alone, so I scream. I scream, and then a jarring pain in my head. I have seconds to realize it's another man, before blackness. Nothing...
Ryia~
Thud. Thud. Thud! I open my eyes with a start, there is a...dead? I look closer, yes, a dead man next to me. I sit up, surrounding me are multiple bodies. There were a lot more than I thought...were. I slowly get up, my blood rushes from my head and i almost fall, then I feel my headache. I put a hand to my head.. Blood, no wonder I was out cold. Thud. There, to my right, another man fell, thats What that noise is then. I finally notice the lone figure, standing above my pack. She picks it up and walks over to me. I squint at her face. I recognize it, but my brain is too mushy to make any connections. She gives it to me and walks off. I stare, dumbfounded, and looking as such.
I arrive at my tree and climb the ladder I left hanging  and when I reach the top pull it up. I ale the rickety bridge to the right and set my pack in a hut. I walk toward my house when suddenly another one of those creeps charges me. I gasp, startled, then move to the side, he runs by, off the edge. But he also just happens to grab my hand. I scream and am pulled of the edge with him. He grabs me and twirls me so im headed toward the ground, him on top. I get the jist and twirl around. He does again. Then I do. He is just under me when we hit. My shoulder hits the ground and I scream. He didnt have the chance to. I roll off him, my arm under him. I use my metal hand to push him off. I scream again and pass out this time.
Weltrin ~
My eyes flash open, the cold ceiling of the cave the first thing I see. Confusion sets in as I lift a hand to my forehead, the heat of my fever gone. I sit up, looking around the cave.
Odd.
Very odd.
I got out of the cave and took my knife out with me, planning on going hunting.
Hopefully I'll find something.
-------------------
I managed to get a bird or two, and as I was heading back home, something caught my eye in a tree.
"Well hello there."
Solstice~
I watch a perfect, round, salty tear make its way down her face, quickly followed by another, and another. She's lost in her memories for so long I think she'll never come back to this world.
I would know.
It's happened to me before.
The girl's grip loosens and I think about rolling away so I'm not lying down on the ground, but I decide against it. That would just be mean.
Her eyes glaze over, and then, just as suddenly, she pulls herself together. Her tears vanish. She's who she used to be again, not the mournful being she just was.
She stands up, brushing dirt off her pants. I take this as an invitation and get up.
The girl points to the hole I entered through. "Go," she says.
I purse my lips. "But I just got here. I don't even know where I am."
"I'll give you a brief summary- there are quite a few of us here. We were sent here for our crimes-supposed or not- and all of us have a power. You do, don't you? Now go."
She's surprisingly calm for someone who's just broken down. It took me so long when I did. But I hear the tension in her voice and decide to leave.
But just before I walk out into the sun again, I turn around. "Name?" I ask.
"Emi. Yours?"
"Solstice." I give a nonchalant wave and crawl out through the opening.
As always, you're welcome to change it, Indigo.
Nenya~
I recognize the boy as Weltrin, now that he's conscious. It's hard to tell one face from another when you're out for the count.
"I'm Nenya," I continue. "You may have seen me once or twice. I don't interact with people mostly." I jump out of the tree and hold out a hand.
Shrugging, Weltrin takes it. "I'm-"
"Yes, yes, I know, you're Weltrin. I found you knocked out and sick so I brought you home. I hope you'll be able to repay me."
A little cruel, I know. But the herbs I gave him were of the best quality. I gave a whole month's worth of treasures to get that, and I didn't plan on using them on someone else. Now that I did, I wanted my stuff back.
Weltrin ~
My eyes narrow as I look Nenya up and down.
"Repay you?" I try to keep the venom out of my voice. Nenya gives a brisk nod, her face remaining completely void of any emotions.
Like a stubborn brick wall.
"How 'bout I give you an animal pelt? Or perhaps a whole animal?"
