Everland Island P

Everland Island Prison RP

Okay, so my Everlasting RP started eight days ago, and we voted first for genres, and then for plot ideas. However, two plot ideas tied for first.

Normally, in this situation there would be a runoff between the two, and I'm also aware that I said this would be the case. However, I fear that we are at serious risk of losing the people that have joined, because, quite frankly, this is taking a really long time. =)

Also, there are clearly enough people interested in both RPs to make them both work. This is a good thing! Two for the price of one!

Alias submitted the following idea, and it tied for first with four votes;

In this world your three (or fewer) characters are on a prison-island. A few of these characters were unjustly imprisoned, but many deserve to be there. This is not just a story about heroes and good guys.

They are racing to get to a small enchanted ship that they have heard of -- though no one knows if it exists. Nobody has actually seen this ship. but stories say that it can only carry two people. This ship is also said to be the only escape from the prison-island.

Here's the thing; this is a prison for people with magical powers. The island is under an unbreakable spell that limits the characters' powers so severely that they're almost silly. Like if you have the power of conjuring flame, you can only conjure one as large as a gas stove would. Or if you can freeze something, it can't be bigger than an apple. (These are just examples.)

This is set in a medieval-type era. (But not necessarily Earth.) So, no cellphones, etc.

If you use more than one character for this, they should be on very noticeably different levels as far as good/evil.

The goal of these RPs is not to win! These are Everlasting RPs. If someone just wins, then they end! I someone does triumph, it should be a twist of the plot, not the high point in any way.

Let's try and make it about strong writers, not strong characters. Triumphs should be few and far between, something worthy of celebration. Make the story about challenges and defeats.

The character form is this:

Name:

 Age:

Appearance:

Power:

You'll notice that I left out backstory, other, and personality. This was on purpose. I think it will make for a more interesting to have our characters develop throughout, not just have a flat-out identity. No one really knows if the other one is good/evil. We have to figure it out.

Just to remind everybody, I'm going to state a few rules;

1. You can have no more than three characters at a time.

2. A character can be killed off and replaced. However, there must be two weeks (real time) between the creation of a character and the same character's replacement. This gives our characters time to develop, and hopefully compels us to commit to describing their place in this imaginary world.

3. No simple overpower-ed-ness, please! Cleverness, deceit, and luck, YES! Blatant ovepowering, not so much.

4. You do not have to have voted on the original thread to post on this.

5. You can join at any time.

I laugh cruelly. "Those herbs were of the best quality. I paid a whole month's worth of food to get them."

I cross my arms cooly and start to tap my foot as he ponders.

Sorry it's so short.

P.S: Clode says heyt. Hate? She doesn't hate him, Clode.

"Well, I can't exactly think of anything that would top that. What exactly would you have in mind?" I asked, knowing I was playing a dangerous game here.

She could ask for anything, and it would be your fault. You really want to do this?

She saved my life.

Nenya~

Well. That's something you don't usually hear. He's asking me to name the price.

Some prisoners here would jump at the chance to get something good and rob him of everything he owns. But I'm not that kind of person.

I carefully say, "Have you seen anything.... kind of fire-like lately? Like it was made from fire?"

"No," he replies, looking quizzical. "Why?"

"Ummmm... no reason."
Classic answer. But would he actually believe me if I said that my otter found a fire key in an oyster? No.

After thinking for a while, I say, "Three pelts, I don't care what animal, buttons, and thread."
Buttons and thread aren't the rarest of things, but they certainly aren't something that you find every week. And I don't have any. I need some, seeing as I've lived here for who knows how many years and have only worn three sets of clothing.

Admins, can you please move my last post (not this one) to the end? I don't think anyone will notice it now. Thanks!

No, I don't have the power to do that. Sorry. You can resubmit it by replying to the last comment.

Rianne~

Ryia leaves our trading circle. Coral keeps a few items on the table -- or the sand -- and Niska still has some beads and other items.

I say, "Thanks, but I've got to go back now. I'll see you around!" I get up to leave, but step over Niska's pack on the way back to the forest. I nearly trip, seeing a small glint of metal poking out of her bag. I bend and pull out the shiny item: it's one of my needles!

I cross my arms. "Niska?"

Ryia~

Thud. Thud. Thud! I open my eyes with a start, there is a...dead? I look closer, yes, a dead man next to me. I sit up, surrounding me are multiple bodies. There were a lot more than I thought...were. I slowly get up, my blood rushes from my head and i almost fall, then I feel my headache. I put a hand to my head.. Blood, no wonder I was out cold. Thud. There, to my right, another man fell, thats What that noise is then. I finally notice the lone figure, standing above my pack. She picks it up and walks over to me. I squint at her face. I recognize it, but my brain is too mushy to make any connections. She gives it to me and walks off. I stare, dumbfounded, and looking as such.

I arrive at my tree and climb the ladder I left hanging  and when I reach the top pull it up. I ale the rickety bridge to the right and set my pack in a hut. I walk toward my house when suddenly another one of those creeps charges me. I gasp, startled, then move to the side, he runs by, off the edge. But he also just happens to grab my hand. I scream and am pulled of the edge with him. He grabs me and twirls me so im headed toward the ground, him on top. I get the jist and twirl around. He does again. Then I do. He is just under me when we hit. My shoulder hits the ground and let out an agonized cry. I feel myself go pale then roll off him, my arm under him. I use my metal hand to push him off. grit my teeth and let out another cry. Then I pass out.

~Niska~

"What?" I ask as innocently as I can.

"Is this my needle?" she asks.

"Yeeah. . ."

"NISKA!!"

"Look . . . I'm sorry. It's just . . . stealing . . . it's what I do. . . I'll give it back, if you want."

She holds out her hand. I place the needle in her hand. "Bye, Coral. Bye, Rianne." Coral nods without looking at me, evidently confused as to what is happening between Rianne and me. I sling my pack onto my back and run away into the jungle. Rianne turns and hurries her way, leaving Coral on the beach, packing up her supplies.

Back in my hut, I dig through my things. There's the soap using the animal fat I stole, the blue-bead necklace, the feather from Lyssrya, the hardened coral and hair tie from Ryia, and the shoetie. I hurry, invisible, through the forest and quickly put each item back in the owner's dwelling. Then, back in my own dwelling, I carefully stash the three pearls in the now empty (except for the things I found and not stole) basket. Then I grab the knife I found. I'm going to get some beautiful things of my own.

Weltrin ~

What could she have meant by fire-related?

Did she mean like a fire pit?

...Or me?

I shook away the thoughts and turned back to Nenya. I agreed to her price, thanked her again, and walked away.

Time to repay the life I now owe.

Ryia~

I'm not sure how much later I woke up. But I have never been so reluctant to wake. Usally it's because I'm all toasty in my bed, not too hot, not too cold, melted. Now it's because of the pain.

I groan and look at the dead man beside me, glad no one heard my cries, for this looks wrong. It's the man's fault he's dead, not mine, but really, who would believe me? I have no friends too..well..I have friends..but they are just those friends that I know, and say hi to, and occasionally laugh with. No real friends, according to my standards. I mean, even when I wasn't on the island....What the heck am I saying? I'm a pirate! Of course I don't have friends..I don't need...friends... And what am I saying again? I don't know...

I push myself up with my metal arm, okay, a metal arm, and a most likely broken arm. I slowly stand up, whimpering. Okay..somehow the ladder had been rolled down in the fight, just my luck. It takes me five to ten minutes to climb it...now I have a broken arm, let's see how this will work... I lower my head and sigh. My arm is throbbing. And swollen..pretty bad.

Rianne~

I walk slowly back towards my forest lean-to, rolling my needle between two fingers. I don't know what to think. Niska... I thought she was nice. But my needles... they're important to me. I don't have enough left to be giving them away -- or as good as.

I pull myself up onto the platform, my arm shaking. I roll over, lying on my back, my feet dangling off the edge all the way to my knees. That. Took. Way. More. Than. An. Hour!! I let out a sigh amidst my heavy panting. My arm is sore and still shaking. My other arm...of course it's sore! I broke it! And I had to climb a rope ladder that sways back and forth in the breeze! I grumble. I lie there, my chest heaving, for who knows how long. "I had better roll the ladder up..." But I still don't move. Five minutes later my chest peacefully rises and falls, my eyes are closed. I am asleep.

~Niska~

First I check the tidepools. In the first tidepool I find nothing but kelp and seaweed, in the second I find a twisted bit of wire. The third is empty, the fourth holds only a bent metal barrette. I check the fifth with little hope. It's empty. I start digging around in the sand and am surprised to find a whole, intact sand dollar almost immediately. The tide starts rushing in so I move on, going back into the jungle. Walking back towards my hut, I see a nest up in one of the trees. Luckily it is only a few feet up. I scale the tree with some effort and peer into the nest. There's a bird egg, and a twisted but shiny metal spoon, some tin foil, and other sparkly bits of metal. A magpie's nest! I collect the bits. I soon realize one is a needle. One of Rianne's needles, it looks like. Resolving to give it to her later, I tuck it in my pocket.

Is it alright if Solstice makes friends with one of the other islanders?

Solstice~

After I crawl out of Emi's hole, I realize that if I'm going to stay here a while, I need to build a shelter. So I wander around the island, inspecting mud huts and other houses until I have a good idea of what I want to build.

I find a good shady spot under a tree and start bringing mud from the beach and fashioning bricks out of it. It's long, hard, sweaty work but I almost enjoy it. I make countless bricks and leave them to dry in the sun on a rock. When they've hardened, I start stacking them under my tree, slathering mud in the crevices.

When the brick walls are as tall as I am, sunset is near and I'm finally done with my walls. They start out parallel to each other, and slowly curve around the tree trunk and then inwards to meet each other. I scale a nearby tree and grab some palm leaves. I need to make a roof.

I slather the palm leaves with mud and leave them out on a rock to dry in the dying sun. When I decide it's hard enough, I climb my tree and place the leaves on top of the walls. It wasn't perfect, but it would do. I climbed through my doorway and fell asleep against the tree trunk.
