Hands yank off the sleeping mask. I hear clicking noises but I just sit there, staring.

They did a wonderful job.

My hair is dyed neon green, and it seems to be gelled, as it sticks up in points. I reach up and touch it and discover it is something stickier than that, glue it seems. It'll take hours to wash the glue out of my hair and the neon green won't just leave, I would either have to dye my hair again or shave my hair right off my head.

Black lipstick is smeared over my lips, blue eyeliner rubbed onto my cheeks, green eyeshadow drawn onto my forehead. My eyebrows are dyed purple and my fingernails have been painted bruise red.

I panick and step back, staring at the monsters. We're doomed. I realize just now how much makeup can change your appearance. All three girls are beautiful, were beautiful. I was going to leave early tommorow to help set up my church, and invite everyone, but I'm not sure that will work. I gulp, listening to the screams of horror from the three girls.

Could we even survive the night? It would probably be blamed on me. I hadn't thought of that before.

The entire time, I've been hanging back reading, and feeling super uncomfortable. Now, though, when I see Brielle's reaction, something snaps within me.

"It isn't Katie's fault!" I scream, "You started this war, and you deserve to pay the price. So stop bullying her!"

By this time, everyone is staring at me. Even Brielle is too stunned to reply. She soon recovers, though, and comes up to me, putting her hand on my shoulder.

"Alright," she smiles, her voice deathly calm, "Perhaps it isn't Katie's fault. I'm glad you want to take her blame." She whispers something else but I don't hear her. Suddenly, everything goes black, and I sway. And fall. And...

"Booksy!" I race toward her, grabbing her before she falls. I glare at Brielle, and lay Booksy carefully on the ground.

"Want another thing to remember us by?" I hiss between gritted teeth.

Swinging my arm across, I punch Brielle in the face. She doubles back, touching her nose, which is suddenly bleeding. I raise my fist for another, but someone holds me back.

"Lemme go!" I screech. It's Katie. She's whispering something to me, but I don't hear it under the rage pulsing in my ear.

"Have you EVER thought of what we feel?" I scream at Brielle. "Whenever you used those SCHEMES, did you ever think you were doing BAD?"

"Well, LISTEN HERE. You're a complete JERK. No one LIKES you. WE'RE all AFRAID of YOU," I continue, while Brielle steps a foot back. I breathe quietly.

"I read this article a little while ago." I breathe, my voice surprisinly calm. "It was about how popular kids, even if they do good in middle school, become unpopular in high school. They start doing drugs, and their seemingly 'mature' personalities aren't mature anymore."

I smile.

"So...Please-let-us-ALONE!" I jump onto Brielle. We topple over and I hear cracking. My glasses. It's a blur before I can stop it.

I watch the chaos and shout at the top of my lungs, 'STOP!!!" the room freezes and I step forward. "Okay. This needs to stop!" I turn to Brielle. "Your fight is with me. Not them. Leave them alone,"

I shriek as Mellie pounces on me, her eyeshadow-smudged fingertips pressing into my shoulders hard enough to leave bruises. The floor suddenly rushes toward us, and we collapse into a jumbled mess of elbows and feet.

"STOP!" Katie shouts at the top of her lungs, and I glance at her, holding my bloody nose. "Okay. This needs to stop! Your fight is with me. Not them. Leave them alone."

Blatantly disregarding Katie's words, Mellie digs into my wrist with her razor-sharp nails, revealing a jagged line of half-moons in my skin. I yelp in pain.

"MR. FAWN!" Rianna yells, her voice dripping with fear.

Katie drills holes into Rianna's eyes. "And you. If you think tattletaling your way through life is the way to go, then sweetie, you're in desperate need of a wake-up call. At this rate, you'll never become successful in the future, no matter how much money your family has. Got that?"

"Katie, stop," Kat mutters under her breath.

"No. I'm not finished." Katie crosses her arms in defiance. "Wow, Kat. I thought you were better than this." She scoffs in disgust. "But I guess not."

"WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?" Kat screams, and I jerk upright, startled. Kat's never raised her voice this high before.

"HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?" Katie doesn't sound angry anymore, just hurt. Her voice softens. "We were just starting to become friends. But all of that doesn't matter now. No self-respecting 'popular girl'" - she made quotation marks with her fingers - "would be caught dead with a loser like me, right? So now the rest of us aren't worth your time? Is that it?"

Kat's jaw tenses. "You've got it all wrong. Just because I'm friends with Brielle and Rianna doesn't mean - "

Katie cuts her off. "Save it. I can take a hint." She begins stuffing miscellaneous makeup products into her duffel bag and slings it over her shoulder, heading for the front parlor. "We're leaving. Come on, guys."

Mellie detangles her limbs from mine and stands, grabbing her suitcase. The rest of the girls start to pack up their stuff.

My mouth feels dry, like I've been chewing sandpaper. I clear my throat. "Fine. Go." My voice sounds weak, and I amp it up a notch. "Also, BTW? My father - the head of the school board, just FYI - will not be too pleased to hear about this. You and your little friends'll be expelled from school faster than you can say 'nosebleed.'" I swipe another tissue from the box and hold it to my face, then lift myself onto the sofa.

"Nosebleed," Mellie deadpans.

An expression of resentment flashes across Katie's face, but she grits her teeth and doesn't argue. The front doors open, then swing shut as the nerdettes leave. They still fear me, even with spiky green hair.

After an uncomfortable two minutes of silence, Kat excuses herself to use the bathroom. For once, Gigi doesn't seem to know what to say. Rianna hurries off to fetch me an ice pack.

My phone buzzes - a new text from Andy. I ignore it.

I turn instantly to the girls. "I'm sorry. I was an idiot and I fell into that. I am a loser. You guys can be friends and all, but they hate me. I stink."

"No!" the girls shout in unison.

"Yes!" I respond. "And I probably got us all expelled!"

Willow shakes her head. "No."

"No?" Booksy asks.

"No," she repeats. "We are going to have a talk with Brielle's father."

My eyes widen in suprise. "Is he even here? What good do you think will come from this?"

Willow grins and turns, marching down the stairs toward a lavishly decorated living room.

"Hi...Brielle's dad," Mellie says first as we awkwardly step into the room, fearful to touch anything.

"Uh..Hello girls? Yeah...can I help you?"

"Your daughter is a mean bully and she plans to expell us because she hates Katie and blames everything on her," Willow states, standing up to him.

I stare at myself in the mirror. I run my fingers through my hair but the spikes don't disassemble. I flop my head forward and let the water run through my short hair. I rub the hair gently and wash it out with the bamboo-scented soap Brielle uses. A couple of spikes crumple slightly and when I comb my hair out with my fingers, it stops being quite so spikey, although it still sticks together in small green clumps. I wash my face, scrubbing furiously to get off. Maybe she has makeup wipes, I think, prying open the door to the cabinet. I take out a makeup wipe and wipe off the rest of the makeup. My face finally free from the thick, badly applied coats of base, I gently dry off my hair with a towel. Staring into the mirror, I realize that I like the way the green contrasts with my eyes. If the green were a bit more subdued and my hair weren't so spikey, I might actually like the hairstyle. Maybe if it had some streaks of aqua or blueish green ...

I'll write more later.
