The ornamental woods.

Chatterbox: Inkwell

The ornamental woods.

The ornamental woods.

Deep set in the cornapy mountains the ornamental woods are host to many an array of creatures. However wether they know it or not they are ruled by the "Kesaay" a government of beasts, mythical or otherwise.   The kesaay perform invulnerable tasks.  Controlling the weather for instance. Without them the forest and all its creatures would vanish forever.

However something is corrupting the forest.  Trees wither like grass in full sun.  Rivers are black with poison, and a disease is spreading.  A disease who's bearers lay writhing in agony for a day and disappear the next.

Those of the forest blame the kesaay, threatening to overrun their rule and take the power for themselves which could only end in great destruction.  Destruction that could spread from the ornamental woods into what lies beyond.

RULES & INFO:

The kesaay are organized into ranks, each rank possesses a layer of the forest.  For example.  The first rank abides in the upper canopy, etc.

RANKS: From lowest to greatest.

SEVENTH RANK:  leaders of the animal clans.  Example.  Leader of wolf clan.  Leader of owl clan etc.  (This is optional, those who exel at sixth rank can still be part of the kesaay) capacity: there is no limit

SIXTH RANK:   Training to become part of the kesaay.  Failure in this can result in going down in rank.  Capacity: 20

FIFTH RANK:  Healers.  Those in this position are sent out to heal the sick and injured as well as participate in further training.  Capacity:  10

FOURTH RANK:   Water.  In this rank one will help control the speed, power and purity of the streams, rivers, ponds and lakes in the woods.  Capacity:

THIRD RANK: Weather.  In this rank one will help control rain, wind, lightning, etc.  Capacity:

SECOND RANK:  Nature.  Those in this rank will help control plant growth, etc.  Capacity: 2

FIRST RANK:  Leaders of the kesaay.   Those in this rank are known as the elders, they control the passing of time and space.  The most powerful rank of them all.  Legend hold the elders are fallen stars chosen by the moon.  It is nearly impossible to get into this rank, none have done so in a thousand years.  Capacity:

RULES:

1. There are no humans in the ornamental forest

2.  You can be any creature imaginable, but there is no magic apart from that in the kesaay.

3.  Potions etc.  Are allowed though.

4.  No being op.  You CAN NOT be *poof* one rank into the other, moving rank too rank takes time and training.

5.  When one is ready for the kesaay, the mark of first/second rank will appear on their body.

6.  11-up only please.

Please fill out a charrie sheet.  Example.

Swift~

I crouch down in the shadows in leopard form and watch the centaur on guard. If I can get past him I can get in the food storage and maybe escape with enough food to last me a few days. Normally I would go hunting, but with all the polluted rivers and diseases, prey had become scarce. I quickly scale the nearest tree and edge to the end of the branch. Here comes the most dangerous part - there's a large gap between trees, right above the centaur guard, and I have to leap the gap without making any sound. Luckily, I make it across without any trouble. I've been doing this for weeks. No one's noticed me or the missing food. It isn't hard anymore. The racoon was tricky to get past though. I could've sworn he'd spotted my tail, but he didn't sound the alarm, so I was fine. With enough meat in my bag to sustian me for for a few days, I go back the way I had come from. Just as I am about to jump back, however, a dragon flies past, and only my front paws grasp the next branch, so I change into a falcon, fly back ontop of the branch, and change back. The dragon was too preoccupied to see me, but the centaur started towards the tree I was in. My heart was racing. Being caught a theif is bad enough, but a shapeshifter... I'd be lucky if I got a life sentence in prison. Most likely I'd be killed. The bag was too heavy for me to fly away with, and the centaur had a bow with him, which he was just loading an arrow in and aiming right at me. I froze, and hoped my spots were camoflauge enough to hide me.

~ Greatness

I could sense magic.  Ancient magic.  I narrowed my eyes and stepped closer, the arrow tip glaring straight forward...

"Greatness! Its my shift!"

It was forest.  I sighed before stealing one look toward the trees.  Maybe they had been empty all along.  I felt a light weight on my shoulder and smiled.  Forest nodded and took off heading toward the west field.  I glanced back once more and then started back to our sleeping quarters.  The setting moon guiding my way.

~ Forest

As soon as greatness was out of sight I zoomed back over to the trees.  Zigzagging through the branches till I met eye's with a leapord.

He snarled and set into a pounce position his claws extracted and ready. I smiled

"I wouldn't do that if I were you,"

"Why not?"

"Because you know I could set the alarm."

"I could escape"

"Not fast enough"

He growled softly but sat back on his haunches.  His eyes following my every move.

I surveyed him, the silver mark on his tail, the silver eyes...

"Your a shapeshifter aren't you."

"maybe I should kill you and face the consequences,"  he snarled.  I sighed.  "Im not like the others."

"What do you mean?"

"Let's just say I wasn't affected as much as they were"

"As much?"

"I've left the past in the past, they should've done the same..."

I sighed. "They think all the shapeshifters are dead, but even so I have a few elixers that should hide those," I pointed toward his tail.

"Why?"

"Because I can help you"

P.S.  hope this is OK riddler, if you don't like it I can change it so yeah.  And yes I know you posted, its just there are days when the post doesn't show up for like nine hours, and you posted before about changing the cardinal to a falcon and I thought that was your only post and I was like LETS GET THIS STORY STARTED.

OK that whole comment made no sense so just saying.  THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!!!

Swift~

"Because I can help you."

Those words echoed in my ears, and a sudden vision flashed through my head:

It was a quiet night at the den, and five leopards, each of whom could turn into a different animal, lay peacefully asleep. Four cubs and their mother. Until They came. They came suddenly, storming into the den and seizing all five of them, the Kesaay. They Kesaay were ruthless, they attacked without mercy, instantly killing one of the cubs. But the mother was brave, she kept shifting, and she attacked the Kesaay long enough for the remaining three cubs to escape into the night, killing herself in the process. There was a chase. Only one cub survived. His name was Swift. And he would never again trust the Kesaay.

All this came crashing down on me like a flood, and my eyes narrowed. It was either face certain death at the paws of the Kesaay, or have a chance at escape. I would have to leave the food bag - it would just slow me down. Taking a deep breath, I turned as fast as I could and shot off into the woods. I instantly heard the faery shouting the alarm and the commotion of the others waking up, and I knew there would be a chase. I looked up as I ran - the trees underbrush were too thick to fly through, and I wouldn't have any cover to hide under. My head was pounding and my heart raccing, but I couldn't stop, not unless I wanted to be caught. My breath came in gasps and I knew I was going to get caught and killed. I inwardly cursed myself. What did it matter? Everyone was going to get caught eventually, why did I think I could avoid it? There was no escape. I held my breath as I heard the Kesaay grow nearer...

Lynn-

I have found another shapeshifter.

And I can't even tell it I can shift.

It's a leopard, from what I can see. In seal form, my eyesight is more limited than in human form.

I waddle out of the bushes and see Forest.

"What is happening?" I ask breathlessly.

~Stargazer

My ebony wings pumped frantically as I shot through the forest.  Branches whip across my legs, stinging my eyes as small cuts simmer with blood.   But I don't care.   I fold my wings  into my chest and dive through the overgrowth.  Landing directly in front of the creature.

Greatness explodes through the underbrush, calypso and forest as well as a seal behind.  A seal?  No it didn't matter.  I avert my gaze back to the creature, his silver eyes shadowing those I saw a few years before.

"Your a shapeshifter," I hissed.  He was silent.  Fear embedded into his eyes like a stone.

"You know what we do too shapeshifters?". I felt anger and hatred pour from my lips into one searing sentence.

"Stargazer stop, this isn't you." Forest beat her wings frantically wavering in between me and the leapord.

"Get out of the way forest" I hissed.

"Stargazer, Silverwing was just as much our brother as yours. He changed, completely.  Blaming his faults on shapeshifters is wrong. You know that."

"He destroyed my tribe, he crushed the most noble griffins under his claws. He murdered my family and still you wish to protect his kin?!"

"Stargazer, it never was silverwing, it was Tefaru.  The power was just too much for him.  You saw how he changed."

"The griffin tribe is dead because of him,"

"And you blame his descendants?!?"

"His blood runs wild through their veins, who knows when his evil will corrupt them just as it did to my sister,"

"I let you kill shapeshifters for a time stargazer because I felt sympathy toward you, but now you have gone to far.  This is madness.  This is treachery.  If you go any farther you will be no better then silverwing himself."

I glared at her, why must she always be right?  She did not know the pain of losing  her kind.  She did not know the feeling of emptiness that followed me, knowing I hadn't done what I should've.

"Fine, fine! If that's how you feel about murderers, fine.  For all I care make him a kesaay.  I'm leaving, don't ask me when I'll be back because I don't know.

But let me warn you, if he makes one mistake I will kill him on the spot."

With that I rose into the night sky and disappeared into the moon.  Hatred and fear following in my wake.

I sit in my cozy study reading a book when Jonah arrives.

"Those Kessay!" my son says.

"What about them?" I say, looking up from A History of the Tree Spirits.

"They're chasing a shapeshifter. An innocent shapeshifter. I saw them. They don't have any respect for them. They think that being in First Rank means they can do anything, " Jonah fumes.

"I know that you don't like it. I'm not fond of it either. But I thought I taught you to respect all life in the forest, including the Kessay," I say, not unkindly.

"You too? Everyone tells me I must respect the Kessay. Why should I respect them if they don't respect all the creatures in the forest?" he says angrily.

"Now-"

"I don't want to hear it," Jonah says and stomps out of the room.

I go back to reading my book, unaware of the great quest that I will take by nightfall.

Swift~

"But let me warn you, if he makes one mistake I will kill him on the spot." This turns my insides to ice. Although, not as much as you would think - I was expecting to be tortured and die a slow and painful death. Even if this is only a delay of the same fate, I at least have a chance.

The centaur steps foreward. "I found this," he said, throwing my bag of stolen food to the ground. "Belongs to it. A theif."

"Well if we're not killing him, we've at least got to lock him up!" growled the raccoon. The faerie consented at this, admitting that I had stolen. The other creatures still looked murderous, and were gruff as they forced me through the forest and into a small, cramped cage built into the side of the mountain, and I growled as I watched my half-freedom be diminished.

~~~~~~~~
One day the griffin came back. He snarled at me and pinned me to the ground, his claws across my throat. "Don't think I've forgotten about killing you," he hissed. I struggled, but he was much bigger and stronger than me, and I had grown weak from lack of food. "You destroyed my tribe. And now I'm about to destroy you. I could crush you with one foot." The elder had a strange, crazed look in his eyes. I choked, "You'll never get rid of us. The shapeshifters will come back. They'll return to fight you. You can't win."
He laughed scornfully. "We can hunt down and kill as many of you as we like. Like your mother. I remember - five leopards. We killed them - all but one. I've seen you before. You were the one to survive. But not for long."
As he raised his talons to strike, I heard a voice, the raccoon's - "Stop! Remember what Forest said - we need him!"
The griffin gave him a contemptous glare, but let me go, glaring at me all the while.
As he left, a sudden wave of anger passed over me, and without thinking that he was an all powerful Kesaay and I was just a leopard shapeshifter, I pounced at Stargazer and sunk my teeth into his shoulder. Big mistake.
Sorry i havent been posting, i have dance camp, and i forgot to tell everyone that! Can you mention that on Kyndom for me? I only have enough time to write one comment....
~Moonight
I stare at the moon. The night moon. Or the dark moon. Thats what my parents, Tundra and Rigged, named me after. They day moon, or the bright moon, also called the day star or as some tribes call it, the sun, is what my brother is named after. Sunstar. And finally, Ara. There is a set of dense mountains surounding our pack's hunting ground, and barrly anything can get in or out. These mountains are called the Ara cliffs.
Sometimes i wonder how my mother got into the pack. She had told me the secret when i was nine (in human years. How about all the animals age like humans, except the kessay of course). She told me in every forest, around every pack, there is a lone wolf. A lone wolf, he watches for wolves who get chased from their pack and tell them about us. We are the Pack of the Howl. There is five different packs like this. There is the Gray wolves, the Pack of the Fur, the red wolves and coyoties, the Pack of the Feirce, the Mexican wolves and Tundra wolves, the Pack of the Bright, and the others, the Pack of the Bite. The lone wolf then tells the exiled wolf the way to his Pack, wheather it be the Pack of the Howl, Pack of the Fur, Pack of the Feirce, Pack of the Bright, or Pack of the Bite. There is a secrect tunnle to get in and out of the seporate mountains, the same mountain range stretches around and inbetween all of the tarritory of the packs. The lone wolf tells them the way, and the tunnles underneath each. Then the wolf makes the jorney, leaving the lone wolf to watch the pack again. We are the first in the five mountains. If you look above, it looks like five circles made of mountains.
I watch as the wolf in the moon winks at me. Right now, he is my only freind. I am the runt if the pack. Even when this pack is free, there is still alpha and omega. I am omega. Ara, is the other alpha of the pack. Eclips, the younger alpha, who just took over after the last one died....of unnatural causes....is her mate. Sunstar, who has no mate, yet, is the beta. And I, the biggest runt in all the pack, is the omiga. I am still tecnically a pup, so i eat last anyways. Ara has a mate at a younge age, and is alpha at the youngest age ever recorded.
I am nothing. I have to sleep outside every night.
I am nothing.
~Alpha
My pack. The mighty PACK OF THE NORTH! The alpha pack. If we expand our territory, we do. But, as a kessey, i have to make sure it is only so we have enough food, and the wolves who were effected still have enough food.
My mate. Nighthowler. She has lived as long as i had, probably because she is the female alpha, the female leader of the wolves.
I have no beta. I dont need one. The next alpha will have a bluw pawprint appear on their fur when i die.
Another reason i dont need one.
I will never die.
Awa Noon says caat. Like Claaws? Awa, your so cute! Yes you can be Noon caat the dragon pirate! Well,i may call you ncdp for short.....oh you like that! Ncdp it is! Oh wait, thats your really name? You were just trying to tell me that all along? Oh, okay!
i wonder what all your capacha's real names are.....
~ Forest
I glared down at my empty parchment. Seething with anger and frustration.
Wonder hasn't returned.  No one knows if she ever will return.
Exactly what we needed right now.
Stargazer is back.  But maybe that isn't so great either.  I had hoped time alone would give him time to think, as well as harbor his intentions and see the evil in them.   But by the way he has acted since his arrival...
I grind up the parchment in my palms and throw it aside.  Hoping it just might burst into flames.
A soft knock arrives and for a moment brings me away from my anger.
"Come in,"
Greatness and calypso explode through the entrance.  Both are stained with cuts and bruises.  Blood flows freely from a gash in calypso's side.   I can see one of his paws are missing.
"We tried t-to stop him," calypso gasps.
I stare at Greatness, his face is vacant but I can see the fear lying beneath his eyes.
"Wha- who?"
Greatness turns his gaze to the floor.
"Stargazer"
~Stargazer
"You just made a big mistake,"
I'm trembling.  A white haze frames my vision as blood gushes from my shoulder.  I don't care.
I circle him, my voice dripping with venoum.
"You know, Silverwing was just like you.  He acted innocent and helpless.  But a shapeshifter nonetheless."
I felt calypso's needle-like teeth in my wing and immediately brushed him aside, drawing a talon through his side.  He fell, coughing and sputtering.  Greatness immediately scooped up the raccoon and galloped toward the infirmary or maybe forest.  I didn't care.
The leapord was now cornered, his side brushing against the rock face.  He suddenly shifted, a streak of grey (your a grey falcon right?) Diving upwards.  I followed, beating my onyx wings.  Gaining slowly.
"I trusted him.  We were a pair, two peas in a pod, littermates.  Forever.
And then one day he crushed all of it.  He turned the griffin tribe onto itself.   He corrupted my sister with his darkness.
He planned to take the woods, its life, its energy and its power for himself.
But stopped him.   And to this day I have not strayed from my goal.   To hunt and destroy every one of his descendents.   The shapeshifters."
The falcon zigzagged, and then began plummeting into a dive.  I smiled and did the same.  Slowly sifting my talons through his wing.
He shrieked.
Then pitfalled toward the earth below.
