The ornamental woods.

Chatterbox: Inkwell

The ornamental woods.

The ornamental woods.

Deep set in the cornapy mountains the ornamental woods are host to many an array of creatures. However wether they know it or not they are ruled by the "Kesaay" a government of beasts, mythical or otherwise.   The kesaay perform invulnerable tasks.  Controlling the weather for instance. Without them the forest and all its creatures would vanish forever.

However something is corrupting the forest.  Trees wither like grass in full sun.  Rivers are black with poison, and a disease is spreading.  A disease who's bearers lay writhing in agony for a day and disappear the next.

Those of the forest blame the kesaay, threatening to overrun their rule and take the power for themselves which could only end in great destruction.  Destruction that could spread from the ornamental woods into what lies beyond.

RULES & INFO:

The kesaay are organized into ranks, each rank possesses a layer of the forest.  For example.  The first rank abides in the upper canopy, etc.

RANKS: From lowest to greatest.

SEVENTH RANK:  leaders of the animal clans.  Example.  Leader of wolf clan.  Leader of owl clan etc.  (This is optional, those who exel at sixth rank can still be part of the kesaay) capacity: there is no limit

FIFTH RANK:  Healers.  Those in this position are sent out to heal the sick and injured as well as participate in further training.  Capacity:  10

FOURTH RANK:   Water.  In this rank one will help control the speed, power and purity of the streams, rivers, ponds and lakes in the woods.  Capacity:

THIRD RANK: Weather.  In this rank one will help control rain, wind, lightning, etc.  Capacity:

SECOND RANK:  Nature.  Those in this rank will help control plant growth, etc.  Capacity: 2

FIRST RANK:  Leaders of the kesaay.   Those in this rank are known as the elders, they control the passing of time and space.  The most powerful rank of them all.  Legend hold the elders are fallen stars chosen by the moon.  It is nearly impossible to get into this rank, none have done so in a thousand years.  Capacity:

RULES:

1. There are no humans in the ornamental forest

2.  You can be any creature imaginable, but there is no magic apart from that in the kesaay.

3.  Potions etc.  Are allowed though.

4.  No being op.  You CAN NOT be *poof* one rank into the other, moving rank too rank takes time and training.

Please fill out a charrie sheet.  Example.

I am sunning on a rock when blood spatters my face.

I start, backing into the stream. A grey shape is falling from the sky.

The falcon. The leopard-shifter.

I create a pocket of water and break his fall as gently as possible. I feel like vomiting when I see the state of the shapeshifter's wings; they have been lacerated, destroyed. A dark form lands on the rock next to it.

Stargazer.

"Stargazer, please," I say, picking my words carefully, " I know  it is not my place. You are above me. But please, stop. This... you are sinking to the level of the shapeshifters."

"LIAR!" Stargazer barks, hissing. Stargazer pauses for a moment, looking at me.

"Unless... you are a shapeshifter,"  the words are spoken quietly, sharply.

"Of course not," the lie I speak is so rehearsed that it would be shocking if he didn't buy it.

"Well, Lynn," Stargazer says, "I suggest you stay out of this if you don't want to lose that lovely seal tail of yours."

"Please, stop," I beg quietly.

There is pain. I look down to see a gash in my seal hide.

"No," I say.

As Stargazer, eyes crazed, prepares to strike, I hear hooves, and I am being lifted and brought away...

"You just made a big mistake," Stargazer snarled.

Yeah, I noticed, I think nervously. I look down at his talons: huge, curled claws, each the length of one of my own paws. My eyes travel up the rest of him - the strong, lithe body, the gleaming yellow eyes, and the sharp, cruel beak.

Suddenly the little raccoon leaps at him, sinking his teeth into his wing, but the griffin brushed him off as if he were nothing. I immediately feel sick when I see that his whole paw had been sliced off. This griffin could turn me into... whatever leopard meat is called. (Sorry that ruined the ominous moment.)

He's saying something about Silverwing, and I suddenly remember where I'd heard that name before. My mother. Before she...

The cub was always curious about his father - he'd never met him. The cub would constantly ask his mother about him, but she would never tell him anything. Until - one day. She said one word - his name. Silverwing. The cub repeated that name over and over again in his head, and that was what he was dreaming about when the Kesaay attacked.

A screech from Stargazer brought me back to the present. He was advancing upon me, and I was backed up against a rock wall, with nowhere to go. Except... up.

Just before he attacks, I shift and shoot upwards. He whirls and follows after me. I hadn't expected him too be that fast. As he catches up to me I dive downwards, but he's heavier and can dive faster. Agony shoots through my wings, and I screech as I feel my wings shredded effortlessly. I plummet towards the ground faster than I can control, but I can't fly anymore. Just as I am about to hit the ground, a wall of water breaks my fall.

My eyesight blurs, and I can barely move. I peek at my wings, and feel sick - one is bent at an unnatural angle, and both are bloody messes of bone and feather. If I survive this, I don't think I'll be able to fly again. That was my last thought before I passed out.

I'm still reading when the stableman comes in.

"It's an emergency!"

I immediately stand up. "What?"

"Jonah's stolen Willow."

Willow-stolen-by Jonah?!

I stand up, my book falling to the floor, where I don't bother to pick it up.

"Get Elder ready. I'm following him."

"How do you know Jonah's-"

"Not now."

The stableman runs out to get my horse ready. I grab a few essential things and run out to the stable, where Elder is waiting, all bridled and ready. I hop on and run off into the forest, suspecting only too well where Jonah went.

~Forest

Time stops.

The earth has been ripped from my feet.

Every other word is a background.

One name.

And it's changed everything.

~Stargazer

The falcon lay limp.  His wing mangled to the point it was unrecognizable.

Lynn lay in a pool of her own blood.

I could finish this.  Here.  Now.

My eyes dart too the sky.

A silver streak sails over my head.  Then dives.

Lynn caught in it's talons.

My legs buckle beneath me as memories flood my thoughts.

Silverwing?

I'm sorry it's so short.  I have reader's block  right now and my mind is officially blank.  Maybe tomorrow will be better...

My brother lies faint beneath me.  His black wings cast at his sides.  He was always weak, but ne'er to the point he would let himself lose.

Things have changed I suppose.

I circle once more then turn toward the north, the brown seal squabbling in my talons.

"Let me go!" she shrieks.

I laugh.

"Would you rather be a mark on the forest floor?"

Silence.

She fears me.  How typical.  I never engaged myself with other shapeshifters before, not counting my sister.  She met her end rather early however.  So sad.  Just goes too show what happens when you anger the boss.

I  grinned.

"They thought I was dead didn't they?"

I felt her flich yet she remained silent.

"You ARE wonderful company shapeshifter.  Just thought should know."

.................

"Your very fine company yourself kidnapper".

I chuckled.  "that's such a severe term.  Why not change that to.....savior?"

"That would be remorseless irony as well as completely inappropriate."

"Aaah.  But it isn't."

"How so?'

"You see, for a body to remain strong one must discard what is weak.  A dead arm must be removed for the other to remain healthy.  As the same for a leg, an eye and whatever else does not do its  part justice.  Its completely logical and absolutely neccesary."

...................

"Your insnane,"

"And what is to stop me from saying the same to you?"

................

"Where are you taking me?"

"Tefaru enjoys visitors.  Allmost as much as I enjoy our little friendship."

"We're not friends."

"I never said we were."

Mother is coming. I don't want mother to come. Mother is worthless to me, no matter however much she means to every other living creature on the planet.

That's it.

I'm running away.

To the forests around the-no. Farther.

I'm going far away.

Like.....next to the.kessay.

I will be right under mother's nose the hole time.

But she won't be able to even smell me.

Darkness. Emptiness. I should be dead. But I am not.

Stargazer was going to kill me... I open my eyes. Blood covers the ground. It isn't all mine - Stargazer had just slashed a seal in the side. There was a crazed, dangerous look in hs eyes. He is ready to end both of us in a second.

I am not ready to die.

Suddenly, a flash of silver snatches up the seal, and Stargazer looks up in astonishment, and at the same moment I realize why.

My father. Silverwing.

It took five days to fly to the kessay. She didnt know how she knew where it was, maybe it was just an instinct.

she landed next to the tree where they all lived. It was empty.

hum.

she didnt think for it. She wondered off in a sifferent ditection, following a line of dense trees.

Suddenly she came across a pool. And a rock near by.

Thoughtful stepped caustiously from the dense line of trees. Blood and feathers were spattered on the ground near by. Branches from the trees lay in the pool. "Wh-what happened?" She whispered.

Then she saw what lay next to the rock. It was a falcon. A-bloody almost dead falcon. She huridly rushed over, nudging its side.

Thats when she saw it. The shapeshifter sighn.

She gasped, baring her teeth and raising her feathers. Shapeshifter. But it looked like it was almost dead anyway.

Suddenly she heard a caw from above and a large silver (what is Silverwing?) landed lightly infront of her, his snout drawn in a smile. "Wonder. You are smaller then i rememeber."

"Wonder?!" Thoughtful narrowed her eyes. "I am nothing like mother."

Silverwing smiled and walked slowly around her. "Of course. Wonder's daughter."

He smiled, catching sight of something on her tail. Then he darted foward and.......

Thoughtful was expecting a hit, or a death blow at the least, from what she's heard of Silverwing. But instead her rested a talon on the spot on her tail he was looking at.

Suddenly she felt herself start to change. She screamed in agony as her eyes turned yellow, her wings scaly, and everything a dark black. Then the memories.

She rose, and looked her brother in the eye.

"Welcom back, sister."

Silverwing's a griffin.  AKA stargazer's brother.  I still don't know what animal he can turn into so if you have any ideas that would be greatly apreaciated.  :-P

if its okay with you Windswift, I was thinking that Wonder never really had a daughter.

So Silverwing and whatever the sister's name is put their magic togeather to transform her into Thoughful, so Siverwing could protect her from the others. Then he faked his own death.

But as she was turned into newborn Thoughtful, she forgat all of her memories. And Wonder never really paid attention to the shapeshifter sign on her tail. It was quite easy to convince Wonder that she was her daughter, and all the other kessay.

But once Silverwing touched to mark on her tail, she would loose the form of Thoughtful and turn back.

Twll me if you like it!

Also, what is Silverwing, and what is the sister and her name?

If he's my father, he should turn into a leopard.

Somebody please post because I can really only lie here right now and die so there's not much I can write about. Unless I get help.
