Ranger RP

Ranger RP

The Kingdom of Araluen is a good one. King Duncan is wise and fair, and the people who live there are for the most part happy and prosperous. The kingdom has been saved by invasion many times by the brave but mysterious Ranger Corps, and they enjoy a reputation as one of the most successful nations in the known world.

The Rangers are a mystifying group of people. Many believe that they are capable of dark magic more powerful than the most learned sorcerer, but others know the truth - the Rangers are not magical. They do not possess the secret to teleportation, or know the key to invisibility. They cannot conjure things out of thin air, or summon spirits to haunt you. They are the intelligence force for the king. They go on missions, stop wars, protect the people, and do the sort of thing that ordinary folks can hardly dream of. Their dappled brown-green cloaks allow them to melt into the background at any given moment until you can hardly see them. A ranger is said to carry the lives of  dozen men in their quiver, for with their longbows they have never been seen to miss. All in all, they are not people you want to meddle with. Until you do.

In the Kingdom of Araluen, when you turn fifteen you are required to attend Choosing Day, where the Craftmasters of every profession come to pick who will be their next apprentices. Whoever you are chosen by, you go attend their "school" and learn how to do their craft. Knights go to Battleschool, Chefs go to the kitchens, Couriers train under Lady Pauline, and so on. If you are not chosen by anyone you can become a farmer and work in a small field, which is everyone's worst nightmare.

Finally it is Choosing Day, and you are extremely excited, until... you are not chosen. Bitter, utterly disappointed, and close to tears, you go home. The next day however, you find out why. The ranger of your fief has asked for you be be their apprentice. You can feel what you like about that - confused, scared, excited - but realize that however it’s going to turn out it’s better than your future as a farmer. You accept.

Fast forward to a few months into your training. It’s hard but you are enjoying it. Finally, you get to travel to your first Gathering. Once a year the Ranger Corps has a gathering where they all come together and discuss the status of the Kingdom. There, you meet up with a group of Rangers and Apprentices and are sent on your first mission, along with your mentor. A group of people dissatisfied after the previous war are slowly starting a rebellion. But this time it’s actually dangerous, the most powerful uprising in history. Your job is to investigate, and find a way to stop the rebellion. But it will not be easy. Traitors, spies, and backstabber lurk around every corner, and you have to trust your Ranger abilities to get to the bottom of it.

~~~
So, if you haven’t realized yet, I am making my first rp, which believe it or not I have never done before even though I’ve been here for more than a year. This is based off a book series that I have been reading called Ranger’s Apprentice, by John Flanagan, which I do not expect you to have read. Though this take place in medieval times, there has been a female ranger before, so we are not limited to only men. You can be a Ranger or a Ranger’s apprentice. There are 50 Rangers, one for each of the Kingdom’s fifty fiefs (like a mini kingdom ruled by a baron.) We will start once I decide that enough people have joined, and nobody can join after we have started unless nobody is posting anymore.
My Charrie:
Name: Warren Tallisin
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Ranger or apprentice? Ranger
Who is/was your mentor? Gilan, the only ranger trained with a sword
Appearance: Short-ish brown hair, clean shaven. Short and small, like most Rangers, and wears the ranger cloak that allows him to blend into the background, as well as soft leather boots and the Ranger double knife scabbard which holds a Saxe knife and a throwing knife. Wears the silver oakleaf that signifies him as a Ranger. His horses name is Burr.
Personality: Brisk and slightly impatient, but usually good humoured. Kind, but dangerous if you’re his enemy.
Backstory: Grew up with all older, bigger brothers who went off to become knights, and was initially disappointed not to be chosen for battleschool. Trained under the Ranger Gilan, the only Ranger who was trained with a sword, and realized that he liked it much better. Gilan helped him become a very good swordsman, and he is now one of the most promising of the young Rangers.
@The Riddler- Oh ok! Also, we can have HORSES? Wow! I've never read this series, but it sounds similar to The False Prince. Actually, maybe a cross between The False Prince and Lord of the Rings. May I have a horse, or do you have to be a more expert Ranger first?
@The Booksy Baker- I'm currently in the process of making two male charries, so don't worry about making a girl one. I think it's pretty equally balanced.
Oh, I thought Mystery said either Warren or someone else (oops, I forgot 0.0), so I thought Warren was still open, but I'm sorry. My mistake! Okay, great.
By the way, @Everyone, (Riddler, I hope you don't mind me jumping in here) the typical Ranger uniform is a dark green shirt with a green tunic, brown leggings, and soft-soled leather boots.  And of course, the Ranger trademark, a dark green cloak with mottled browns, greens, and grays.  The typical Ranger weapons include a longbow, and two knives in a double scabbard, both of which are perfectly balanced for the throwing.
Riddler, I hope it didn't seem like I was trying to take control or anything, if it did, I'm really sorry.
Oh and here's a picture I drew of my charrie. I kind of messed up on the face, but oh well.
Also, a few things about the Rangers and their world:
First of all, every Ranger and their apprentice each get a Ranger horse. Most people, upon seeing them, very mistakenly underestimate them, for they are small, short-legged, and shaggy. However, they can run faster than nearly any other breed in the world, and are bred to be able to carry on the same steady pace for days on end. Their trainer teaches them to alert their rider to anyone approaching, and they are able to respond to a number of commands and hand signals. Ranger horses bond very closely with their riders.
Secondly, training will not be easy. The Ranger Corps is a highly disciplined group of people, and becoming one requires apprentices to train for five years. Yeah. A long time.
And finally, geography. Hooray.
Araluen is about equal in the Ranger world to medieval England. Other nearby countries and what they equal are:
Skandia = Scandinavia
Arrida = Northern Africa & Arabia
Celtica = Wales
Gallica = France
Iberion = Spain
Nihon-Ja = Japan
Picta = Scotland
Toscana = the Roman empire
Hibernia = Ireland
The Temujai = the Mongols
And some names of fiefs are (off the top of my head): Redmont, Seacliff, Norgate, Meric, and Whitby fiefs. Castle Araluen is at the centre of the kingdom, where the King and Queen live.
Name: Nalia Lothorya
Age: 13
Ranger or Apprentice: apprentice
Who is/was your mentor: Her first mentor was killed in battle and she's never been the same. Ever since, she's never touched a knife. Her new mentor (a npc) is often away and she wanders while fighting the memories that haunt her.
Appearance: blonde hair pulled up into her hood, forest green eyes, pale skin, sickly and slim build, you can see her bones easily. Almost translucent skin.
Personality: quiet, not entirely right in the head from haunting memories. Jokes seem to frighten her and she stands statue still, her eyes flitting about. In depth, brave although quiet and meek.
Backstory: Her old ranger, Riorliran, was stern but she managed to get attached. It's rumored he was killed in close combat, rumored of his passing not being a mistake. Either way, she was never quite the same. She doesn't talk of her parents or family, but was rumored to aspire to be a Courier before she became a Ranger. Now she has a neglectful Ranger who was rumored to be a fine man once. He isn't cruel, but is away far too often and doesn't train her very well and forgets her needs.
I love these books!
Whoops!  I forgot an important detail. She has to be fifteen....
Well, she is now!
Name: Celestia LeCheval
Age: 15
Gender: F
Ranger or apprentice?: Apprentice
Appearance: Curly blonde hair that has light brown and light blonde streaks in it. It's a bit on the shorter side. She has fair skin and freckles, with blue-grey eyes. She's slim and average height, and she has strength in her arms because of how much she practices her bow and arrow. She usually wears a dark uniform and a darker cloak, carrying her quiver of arrows on her back and the bow on her arm. She won't be seen without them. She also has a small knife in her boot.
Personality: Self-contained and curious. She's a bit on the darker side. She'll ask questions and will listen intently, and she's a smart alek at times. She's not the best rule-follower and doesn't always listen to authority. When she's angry, and only once she's been really angry, you can most certainly tell. She's observant and quick.
Backstory: She was adopted into a higher class family, but she wouldn't think anything of it. When kids she hung out with, however, started to say she couldn't fight because of her social standing, she trained hard with the bow and arrow and other fighting techniques. She's definetly darker because her parents and family refused to talk about her past, and she didn't have many friends growing up. Her only friend died when there was a gang fight that she was the innocent bystander and victim of. Celestia has a horse named Brego (LOTR reference), and he's a black stallion. Brego is pretty wild, but he's tame under Celestia. He almost got killed one time because they thought he was going to kill someone else.
