Ranger RP

Ranger RP

The Kingdom of Araluen is a good one. King Duncan is wise and fair, and the people who live there are for the most part happy and prosperous. The kingdom has been saved by invasion many times by the brave but mysterious Ranger Corps, and they enjoy a reputation as one of the most successful nations in the known world.

The Rangers are a mystifying group of people. Many believe that they are capable of dark magic more powerful than the most learned sorcerer, but others know the truth - the Rangers are not magical. They do not possess the secret to teleportation, or know the key to invisibility. They cannot conjure things out of thin air, or summon spirits to haunt you. They are the intelligence force for the king. They go on missions, stop wars, protect the people, and do the sort of thing that ordinary folks can hardly dream of. Their dappled brown-green cloaks allow them to melt into the background at any given moment until you can hardly see them. A ranger is said to carry the lives of  dozen men in their quiver, for with their longbows they have never been seen to miss. All in all, they are not people you want to meddle with. Until you do.

In the Kingdom of Araluen, when you turn fifteen you are required to attend Choosing Day, where the Craftmasters of every profession come to pick who will be their next apprentices. Whoever you are chosen by, you go attend their "school" and learn how to do their craft. Knights go to Battleschool, Chefs go to the kitchens, Couriers train under Lady Pauline, and so on. If you are not chosen by anyone you can become a farmer and work in a small field, which is everyone's worst nightmare.

Finally it is Choosing Day, and you are extremely excited, until... you are not chosen. Bitter, utterly disappointed, and close to tears, you go home. The next day however, you find out why. The ranger of your fief has asked for you be be their apprentice. You can feel what you like about that - confused, scared, excited - but realize that however it’s going to turn out it’s better than your future as a farmer. You accept.

Fast forward to a few months into your training. It’s hard but you are enjoying it. Finally, you get to travel to your first Gathering. Once a year the Ranger Corps has a gathering where they all come together and discuss the status of the Kingdom. There, you meet up with a group of Rangers and Apprentices and are sent on your first mission, along with your mentor. A group of people dissatisfied after the previous war are slowly starting a rebellion. But this time it’s actually dangerous, the most powerful uprising in history. Your job is to investigate, and find a way to stop the rebellion. But it will not be easy. Traitors, spies, and backstabber lurk around every corner, and you have to trust your Ranger abilities to get to the bottom of it.

~~~
So, if you haven’t realized yet, I am making my first rp, which believe it or not I have never done before even though I’ve been here for more than a year. This is based off a book series that I have been reading called Ranger’s Apprentice, by John Flanagan, which I do not expect you to have read. Though this take place in medieval times, there has been a female ranger before, so we are not limited to only men. You can be a Ranger or a Ranger’s apprentice. There are 50 Rangers, one for each of the Kingdom’s fifty fiefs (like a mini kingdom ruled by a baron.) We will start once I decide that enough people have joined, and nobody can join after we have started unless nobody is posting anymore.
Charrie sheet:
Name:
Age (15-20 for apprentices, 20+ for Rangers):
Gender:
Ranger or apprentice?
Who is/was your mentor?
Appearance (nothing fantasy, you’re just a normal person):
Personality:
Backstory:
~~~

My Charrie:

Name: Warren Tallisin

Age: 28

Gender: Male

Ranger or apprentice? Ranger

Who is/was your mentor? Gilan, the only ranger trained with a sword

Appearance: Short-ish brown hair, clean shaven. Short and small, like most Rangers, and wears the ranger cloak that allows him to blend into the background, as well as soft leather boots and the Ranger double knife scabbard which holds a Saxe knife and a throwing knife. Wears the silver oakleaf that signifies him as a Ranger. His horses name is Burr.

Personality: Brisk and slightly impatient, but usually good humoured. Kind, but dangerous if you’re his enemy.

Backstory: Grew up with all older, bigger brothers who went off to become knights, and was initially disappointed not to be chosen for battleschool. Trained under the Ranger Gilan, the only Ranger who was trained with a sword, and realized that he liked it much better. Gilan helped him become a very good swordsman, and he is now one of the most promising of the young Rangers.

Nesryn~

Choosing Day. It's here. Too quickly. Not quickly enough. I can't decide how to feel about it, other than the fact that I do not know what to wish for. None of the professions are something I want to do for life. I want to do something that will let me see the world. And, if I can, change it. I guess being a knight or something wouldn't be so bad, either, but...

I slide out of bed, heading to my closet. My wardrobe isn't particularly big. A couple of worn, but still effective, hunting outfits. One nice dress. One expensive hunting outfit. That is the one I choose to wear. I can't stand the frills of the dress I own. Nor do I like the little girlish shade of pink. So, my exquisite, night blue hunting clothes it is. I pull on a pair of comfortable black shoes and slide the dagger that my elder brother, Faliq, left me before he... disappeared into a sheath on the inside of my right ankle. On my way out the door, I stop in front of my mirror and pull my hair back into a neat braid, then call out a goodbye to whoever might be in the house and leave.

When I arrive at the location of the Choosing Day ceremonies, I immediately take a seat in closer to the middle of the grounds. Not long after, the event begins. I soon grow bored of listening to the man read off name after name that is not my own. Crossing my arms, I lean back in my chair, letting my face settle into a relaxed, unworried expression. No doubt I look cold to anyone who does not know me well, but I don't mind.

"Nesryn Vassilieva," the man calls out, struggling to pronounce my last name.

I look up, "Yes?"

The man responds by gruffly handing me a slip of parchment. Good quality parchment, too, I notice as I open the slip unhurriedly.

Welcome, new apprentice. See me in the Ranger area.

-Finn

I blink. Look up at the Ranger area. A boy that looks to be about five years older than me smiles, dark eyes sparkling. He must be Finn. I nod, looking back down at my slip of parchment.

I'm a Ranger. I try and fail to fight the smile that tugs at my lips. Definitely unexpected. Absolutely the perfect career path for me. I get up and walk over to Finn, whose coal-black hair is in stark contrast with his pale skin.

Taking a deep breath, I compose my features into impassiveness and walk towards my new life.

Question: At what point do the Apprentices get their horses? I have an idea for a relatively funny scene with that, but I don't know how long to wait before writing it...

Kestrel, apprentices usually get their horses after about a week of training.  Also, something about their horses, the Ranger horses can't be stolen, because they won't let anyone ride them who doesn't have their code-phrase, which you have to tell the horse the first time you ride it.  If you don't it'll twist and buck until you fall off.
I hope this helps! :)

~Miranda~

"So, Lumpkin, aren't you crushed that we're returning home?" I just want apples. He seems to say.  I laugh.
"Why weren't you happy to off adventuring? Normally Seacliff is so boring. You should be grateful that we got to do something."  You got to do all the fun stuff. And don't even try to convince me you won't be happy to get home.
"You right. Chasing bandits is all very well and good, but going back to normal life will be nice. Anyway, only a few more kilometers to go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Here we a-" My sentience is cut off by the sight of a girl sitting on the porch of my cabin. "Really?" I mutter. "I was hoping to be able to rest. What do you need?" The question is said loudly enough for the girl to hear.
"To get in. Where were you?" She answers.
"Beg pardon?" I say. She sighs,
"Didn't Commander Gilan send you a letter? He said he was going to."
"I didn't get to look through my mail. I had to leave before that." I walk past her and into my cabin. Laying on the table where I left it is a pile of mail. I sort through it quickly. There's a letter from Gilan which I open and read.
Dear Miranda, (It says)
Alisa Feymens mentor has to leave  for an undetermined length of time. I'm sending her to you until he gets back. She tends to be shy and quiet, so I was hoping you could help her open up. You're one of the most talkative and sweet rangers out there, so I figured you'd be good for this job.
Best,
Gilan
Really Gilan? I think. I'm brand new! I have no idea how to be a ranger, much less train one! Fine!
I step back out and motion for the girl to come in.
"Your room's through that door. I'll see you in the morning." I step into my room and get ready for bed, still ticked that Gilan sent me an apprentice. My last thought before going to sleep is: You think I'm sweet Gilan? Well you know what? Maybe just this once I won't be sweet.
Alex~
I follow Finn out of the arena and to our horses. We had to get to the arena early to prep for training his new apprentice. As I saddle up Eclipse (thats my horse) I sneek a peek at him out of the corner of my eye. I would miss having Finn to myself. It would be strange having an apprentice with us. We had been partners for two years and I had always thought we would stay that way...
What are the ranger's home surroundings usually like? Specifically Miranda's.
Because Miranda's so new, I said she was the Seacliff ranger. Seacliff is a small island that you get to by ferry. Not much happens there, so it's a standard first fief. It's been a while since I've read the books, but the cabin is probably in a clearing in the woods. Can someone who's read the books recently be a bit more specific?
So, my trainer will be a different Crowley.
Drina-
Choosing day. I hate it. The suspense is unbearable. I'm sitting on my bed, nervously straightening my hair when the time arrives. I feel like it's a dream. I'm ushered out into the hallway. "Drina Carver," announces the skinny court messenger. I step forward. "Y-yes sir. I would like to be a diplomat," I stutter before being asked. Lady Pauline gives me such a look and my heart sinks. I see Crowley II whisper something in the Baron's ear and hands him a parchment scroll. "Very well," the Baron says. I stumble to my room and flop onto the bed. Suddenly I erect myself. I have to see that parchment. What if there's something about me on it?
Three weeks later-
"Don't give Aberforth too many apples," Crowley's voice rings out from nowhere. I toss the apple I was holding back into the barrel and urge Aberforth to a slow trot. I pick up my saxe knife and I start to unsheath it. "Now repeat the sword-blocking move again," Crowley says. I do as he tells me and quickly sheath it again. I ride away for the summer festival at the festival grounds. Life has been good as a ranger's apprentice.
Hey, I have a question~ Are we starting this RP on Choosing Day for all of the apprentices? Because all of the apprentices aren't the same age, so...I don't know how this works.
Hmm... I'm not actually sure. So far, I've just written as if it's from my charrie's memory because everyone else was writing from Choosing Day.
