Um, so apparently there's a stone on the map. And apparently, it's special.  Why is it special? No idea. How do I know it's special? I don't. But the two cloaked figures clearly see something special in it.

Maybe they're just trying to trick us into getting all worked up when really it's just a normal stone.

Okay, let's not jump to conclusions here. Perhaps I should say something? Yes, that would be a wise idea.

"What... is special about that stone? Why are you both crowding around it? Why did you just start growling? What is this stone? Have you seen it before? Where did you come from, anyway? Who are you? Should I know you?"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. One question at a time," says the cloaked figure who's currently holding the stone.

"Okay... what is this stone?"

--

I honestly have no idea where you're going with this...

Honestly, neither do I.

Okay then. Let's see how this goes.

-- Cloud --

"It's not a stone," they say.

"It- what?"

"It's not a stone. It's a memory marker."

"A what?"

"Will you just shut up and let me finish! It's a memory marker, a holder for a memory of an event. It was brought into being by an incredibly powerful sorcerer. How it got here, I have no idea."

"Are you done?" I ask tentatively. They motion for me to continue.

"Do you happen to know said sorcerer?"

King looks up at me pointedly.

"Yes, we do know said sorcerer." I nod solemnly.

"He was my father."

"Your FATHER?!"

"Yes, he-"

"If your father was this incredible a sorcerer, then who are you?"

"I-" Insomnia bursts in with trays of food.

"Happy hour!!" She shouts, smiling broadly. I shoot Cloud a look that says 'Don't ask later.'

-- Cloud --

Alas, my questioning is interrupted by a "happy hour." Whatever the mysterious person may say, whatever looks they will send my way, I will find a way to get answers. If I was not curious, I would not have won as many cookies in my life; I would not have survived this far. My curiosity cannot be suppressed.

I sit at one end of a long, wooden table, digging into a plate of sushi. I decide to make "small talk."

"So. Uh. Anyone have anything interesting to share? Something to break the silence of this melancholy night?"

Ah, well, no one says small talk can't get really awkwardly philosophical!

Dog~~

Insomnia eagerly replies to Cloud's question.

"Oh, I do! On one of my maps there is something rather interesting," Insomnia began .

"Do go on," Wraith says.

"Well, you see, there's this crown thing, and you place memory markers in it, and the you can--"

"I think that's quite enough," Rune says.

" Yes, yes. Insomnia, is there any place that we could stay? It's getting quite dark, " The shadowed figure said.

"Wait. Before we go to sleep, I demand to know why you keep avoiding to talk aboit your past and the memory marker. We've told you all about our pasts, but you refuse to tell us anything about this potentially dangerous object," Wraith interrupts . Almarel and his siblings nod consent.

"Yeah, it's only right that you tell us about it," Cloud agrees. Insomnia tilts her head.

" Oh? Well, I do suppose that perhaps you should tell us. But I think we should let Dog decide. He has a righteous mind and a good heart, " Insomnia eagerly says.

Wraith scoffs. "You're going to lay our fates in hands of a mutated dog?"

" That's rude. And be quiet, because if you keep talking we'll have no idea what Dog wants to decide. " Cloud says.

Personally, I have no idea if I have a righteous mind and a good heart. I think I at least have a good heart, because I've never had heart problems before, but something tells me that's not exactly what Insomnia meant. But you never know with Insomnia. That's why I find so much joy in her.

Everyone waited for my response. The two cloaked creatures very obviously didn't want me to say anything. I loved Rune, but...

I grabbed a small napkin. Using one of Insomnia's pens, I scribbled out, 'Tell us.'

If I had known this interrogation would come of my telling who the sorcerer was, I wouldn't have said I knew. My eyes grow cold.

"Okay, but first-" My hands glow suddenly with blue light, which forms rings and flies at each of their throats. All except King. I can trust him. With a cry, they jump back, clawing at their jugulars.

"What have you done??" Cloud wails.

"I just placed a permanent spell on you. It's irreversible except by me."

"What does it do?" Insomnia asks. The blue light fades, but the spell stays.

"If any one of you tells my life story to anyone who doesn't already know it, it'll restrict to the point where you cannot breathe, much less speak. Only when you resolve not to speak of my story to that person will it loosen. If you attempt to harm me with your knowledge, it will kill you immediately and painfully. If you back down from your resolve to force my story, I will remove the spell. Your choice."

I glance around at the others. I think we're all in agreement. If not, too bad for them. I, personally, don't care if there's a spell on me. It's not like I'd want to retell this story anyway. So...

"We'd like to hear the story."

The others nod in agreement. I sigh.

"Fine. My story will probably be long, though, so we may as well take seats." This, we do. "As you all now know, my father was a sorcerer. Actually, no, he wasn't a sorcerer. He was just like me, or should I say the opposite? Oh well, it doesn't matter. He died thousands of years ago, hundreds of years before I was born."

"Wow, that's a long-" Wraith starts.

"Let me stop you there before this gets even weirder. You see, my species has a special way of reproduction. There is no, um, let's call it 'S', but instead  the father's magic and the mother's combine to make the child. My mother was, again, the same species-"

"Cut to the part about your past." One of Claw's other siblings offers.

"I'm getting there. Since I am a pure Occultatumet Incognita, or, Lost One, I am the physical embodiment of magic. This means that I can contain all magic without dying. However, it has to be entrusted to me personally in order for me to protect, use, or otherwise harbor said magic."

"Kind of like a safe." Dog scribbles.

"Exactly. And that's what I am. I am the Last Refuge." Gasps all around.

"But that's a myth-" Wraith shouts. "-Why should we believe you?? We just met you!" He roars. Claw seems to have spaced out and I don't know what Dog is doing. Insomnia and the others don't seem to understand.

I should probably put something up on Myths and Legends now... Eh I'm tired. *Runs and does a flying leap onto a mass of pillows and blankets* *It's still light outside*

-- Cloud --

I'm not entirely sure what to think. I mean, on the one hand, that's a crazy and unbelievable story. And on the other, I'm from the Chatterbox, where we like to believe everything. And he/she/they has demonstrated his/her/their magical prowess with that spell around our necks...

But still, this is some kind of myth? That I've never heard of?

"Okay, let's say for a moment that I believe this. I found a slight hole in your logic. You say you are the Occultatament Incognita, or whatever that was, so it would seem that your parents were each the whatever-it-was, so then how did they reproduce? AND, if you are the physical embodiment of all magic, how do you exist? It shouldn't be possible. AND, why aren't you more well-known and endangered? AND-"

"Stop, stop. You have a problem with asking too many questions, don't you."

"I wouldn't call it a problem, exactly, but- yes."

(February 12, 2019 - 12:35 pm)

"Being the mbodiement of all magic doesn't mean I control each and every form of magic there ever was. It means I am a vessel, a carrier and a safe place. My parents were the last of the Old Ones, the race of Occultatumet Incognita that watched over Kyngdom from the shadows. My species reproduces by combining the purest of magic to slowly create another of our race. This process usually takes hundreds of years, and the offspring almost never personally knows their parents. My father left a magical imprint on me so that I would automatically know who he and my mother were. My parents both died a few thousand years ago. As for your last in a series of questions," I gesture to their necks. "I prefer to stay as low-key as possible." Cloud nods.

Okay, then. That was odd. So now, if we're sharing our life stories, I'm kinda interested in that other cloaked figure. The two seem to know each other...

Then again, I really need to limit my question-asking.

Let's discuss something a little less controversial/more general/not likely to land a spell on me.

"So, what's going on in the general area of Kyngdom? I mean, outside this nice, sheltered restaurant?"

Dog~~~

Quickly I scribbled an answer on a piece of paper Insomnia gave me.

Cloud read the answer aloud for me. "There is a war going on, between Catastrophe and the Resistance. Catastrophe is horrible, and is a sort of tyrant. Also, these strange, ancient god-like beings known as the Powers are being awakened."

As soon as Cloud finishes, we hear a mumble. We all glanced over to see the sleeping girl blinking and sitting up straight.

"Oh, don't mind me. Sorry I interrupted." She waves her hand , making the gesture for us to continue.
