Ski Lodge

You lounge in your chair, tired from the day so far and wanting an escape. But unfortunately, you happen to not have teleportation powers and cannot go anywhere, so instead, you decide to check out what’s on CB. It is relaxing, almost as good as an escape from the world, with the sunlight casting a warm and golden glow through the window and into your room. You go over and open it to let the beautiful breeze in, and you take in a deep breath of the natural air before going back to CB.

But then, you hear a faint whooshing sound near the window. You glance up, startled, as an iridescent butterfly flies into the room and onto your desk. And as if by some magic, a piece of paper appears on your desk before the butterfly flutters up and out the window, all in a quick blur.

You sit back down, dazed by what had just happened. After you have a moment to clear your head, you decide to look at the piece of paper. Curiously, you begin to read it:

Day 1, Part 2

Lyric walked into her room, admiring the details put into it. The room was decorated with pansies and gave off a wonderful floral scent. There was a comfortable bed set in the middle, along with a small desk and a chair. Lyric quickly settled in, unpacking what she brought to the trip.

There was a small window in the room, which overlooked the wonderful scenery of Flower Isle. Lyric was beginning to think that maybe an escape was what she needed, away from everything and just among nature.

After a few moments, she could hear Flora calling them down for dinner. She quickly went down, with Reuby Moonnight, Silver Crystal, and Celine not far behind. Lyric arrived at the dining room and saw the rest of the group already seated. She took the seat next to Seadragon.

Flora used a little magic to set dinner before them, which was a bowl of soup and a plate of fresh salad. It was all very flower-themed, light but filling and delicious, though Avara wondered why there was a kitchen at all if Flora could just do magic.

Afterwards, Flora gave them some free time to explore the island or just relax. Lyric and Pangolin went up to the library, with each one taking a book off the shelf and beginning to read quietly in each other’s company. Celine, Luna and Silver decided to explore the island, though keeping well away from the Lake of Eternity, of course. The rest of the group chatted with each other, happily exchanging their opinions on Flower Isle so far, as well as what stories they had read or written recently.

Soon, Flora announced that their free time was over and it was time for bed. Lyric crawled underneath the covers and quickly fell fast asleep after an exhausting but fun day on Flower Isle.

But soon, Lyric could hear a small noise. The noise sounded like footsteps, heading towards her room. Lyric cautiously opened her eyes to see what was making that noise. It was a shadowy figure, a person.

It was too dark to make out the person’s face, and Lyric grew more and more uneasy as the person came closer, eventually entering her room. In the person’s hand was a knife, flashing in the dark.

However, it was too late for Lyric to react, as the person had already struck.

OOH my story self just died. Thank you very much for making it un-gory. I see that pangolin, Reuby, and Seadragon all (hypothetically) packed a knife...not pointing fingers, just observing.

Day 2, Part 1

Avara woke up to beautiful sunlight streaming through her window. She slowly, reluctantly, got out of bed as Flora called everyone down for breakfast. Behind Avara were the other CBers, all still sleepy from being woken up. She went down and took a seat at the dining table. Breakfast was a simple fruit salad and oatmeal, and the group ate contentedly.

Suddenly, the peaceful silence was disturbed, by Pangolin. “Wait, why is there an extra chair? I thought there was a perfect amount last night!” they exclaimed.

“Wait, really?” Hawkstar said, quickly counting. “Hang on a minute, there’s only 10 people in all!”

“Who’s missing?” Reuby asked.

Everyone quickly checked off who was there, and eventually, it was Seadragon who answered, “Lyric’s missing!”

“I’m sure she’s just sleeping in,” Silver said reassuringly, though it seemed that she was trying to reassure herself as much as the others.

“Surely no one could sleep in through Flora’s alarm!” Luna said, sounding a little amused.

“Someone should go check,” Avara said worriedly. “I’ll go, if no one else wants to.”

“I’ll come with you,” Reuby Moonnight said. So the pair went upstairs into Lyric’s room. Avara cautiously opened the door and peeked inside.

Immediately, they went over to the bed, to see Lyric still tucked in. Avara felt relieved, until Reuby put her ear up to Lyric’s chest and then looked deadly silent. Avara quickly took off the whole bed cover, and immediately let out a piercing scream.

The rest of the group rushed over, and Reuby quickly explained what they had found, Avara being too shaken to say anything.

“I never knew that someone could…could die…on Flower Isle,” Flora said, sounding horrified.

Some of the other guests murmured something similar, though most of them were too shocked to do anything but stare.

After what seemed like hours, but was really only a few minutes, Flora finally said, “Come on. We must hold a funeral for her.”

The funeral proceeded, with a gloomy air around. The sky, which was sunny in the morning, had begun to become a little cloudy, with dreary wisps of gray clouds floating in to cover the sun. A cold breeze blew by.

Flora planted a small flower seed on top of Lyric’s grave, the exact same type that was used to decorate her room. The pop of color did nothing to brighten the group’s mood. There was much sniffling and crying that could be heard.

Many wondered who would do such a thing to Lyric, and if this escape was really a good idea after all. But they would soon find out the definite answer…

Day 2, Part 2

The whole group was still gloomy from the recent death of Lyric, but Flora decided to cheer everyone up by showing them around Flower Isle. There were all sorts of things to see, from the delicate multicolored butterflies to the dazzling flowers that popped up everywhere. Flora named off at least a million flower species, and the walk had barely started. Hawkstar thought that there was no way she could remember any of these names.

Eventually, it was time for lunch, and after a quick but delicious meal of salad wraps and sandwiches, the group gathered to play board games or just read in the library. Hawkstar still felt sorrowed by the death of Lyric, however, and wondered how everyone could be immediately cheerful again and enjoying this escape. She knew that it was the way most people coped with this sort of situation, but still, Hawkstar felt a need to do a thorough search of who murdered Lyric before even being close to the rest of the group.

Flora then arranged an easy hike up one of the hills on Flower Isle, where the group stayed to watch the sunset, turning the sky into shades of pink and orange. But unfortunately, they eventually had to go back inside for dinner, and then rest.

When night fell and everyone else was tucked in their beds, fast asleep, Hawkstar felt wide awake, a feeling of unease in her stomach. After all, how could she sleep knowing that there was a murderer among them?

Hawkstar quietly got up, and decided to go for a walk. It would be nice outside, to clear her head, since she couldn’t fall asleep. She cautiously crept out, careful not to wake anyone, and went outside.

It was wonderful to be out, with the stars shining brightly in the sky and the moon glowing above the island. She could see the glimmering of water up ahead, and decided to go check it out.

It was a lake. It looked deep in hue, with small plants bordering the outside. Luckily, at the last minute, Hawkstar recognized it as the Lake of Eternity, and stepped away gingerly.

But suddenly, she heard a rustling behind her, and whipped around to see who it was. It was the murderer, of course, who had come for their next victim. However, Hawkstar, like Lyric, couldn’t react fast enough before the murderer shoved Hawkstar down into the lake, landing with a small splash and never to be seen again.

Day 3, Part 1

Seadragon woke up feeling uneasy. Flower Isle had seemed great at first, but the death of Lyric had frightened everyone. Was this place really to be trusted? Who was the murderer? And who could they be after next?

Seadragon, deep in thought, finally got up when Flora called everyone down for breakfast. She came down, realizing that she was the first one down. She sat in the closest chair and waited as the seats were filled up by the rest of the CBers.

Immediately, everyone realized that something was wrong. Instead of 1 chair empty, like it was yesterday, there were 2 chairs left unfilled. And it seemed that everyone also made the same conclusion, as a worst case scenario, hopefully.

It was Pangolin who eventually realized it and said, “Hawkstar’s missing! Where’d she go?”

Silver and Celine volunteered to check Hawkstar’s bedroom, while the rest of the group sat eating their breakfast in silence, though none had much appetite left to finish it.

Eventually, they both came down and announced that Hawkstar was not in her bedroom. Since no one had another idea about what could’ve happened to her, they finished their breakfast. Flora stood up for an announcement.

“Now that we’ve finished, why don’t we go on a walk outside around Flower Isle? I know everyone’s in low spirits right now,” she added as the group started grumbling. “But this will be good for us to cheer up and enjoy this escape as much as we can.”

Reluctantly, Seadragon got up and followed as Flora led the way out of the cabin. It was beautiful, and despite the events that had happened so far, Seadragon had to smile at the beautiful sight. Beside her, she could see that everyone else also had smiles on their faces as they gazed at the rolling green hills of grass, with flowers blooming everywhere, and a fresh breeze in the air, all bathed in a golden yellow from the sun.

The group hiked through Flower Isle, taking a trail that they hadn’t been through yesterday. It went past the Lake of Eternity, so Flora warned them not to stray too close to it, and to stick together.

Suddenly, as they were walking towards the Lake of Eternity, Seadragon heard a gasp coming from Luna. Everyone turned to look at them.

Luna was pointing at the place where the ground began to become muddy, leading up to the lake. No one noticed anything at first, but as Luna continued to point, Seadragon leaned in, and saw footprints.

Everyone else looked, and it became clear that there were footsteps leading towards the lake, but right before it, the footprints disappeared. And it seemed that whoever made it had slipped into the lake.

“C..could it be Hawkstar?” Pangolin stuttered, sounding horrified.

It became quite apparent that what Pangolin said seemed to be the likely answer of what happened to Hawkstar. Flora immediately stopped the hike, and a funeral was set up for Hawkstar. Even though there wasn’t a body found, there was still a grave set next to Lyric’s, with a rose the color of a sunset placed on top.

No one had the heart to do anything else for the rest of the morning, so everyone went back into the cabin. But it didn’t seem at all long until Flora came up with another activity for everyone to participate in.

“How about a scavenger hunt?” Flora suggested.
