And now that that's done with- *flips through packet of possible transitions* Hmm... ah, here we go! December is ALSO Safe Toys and Gifts Month! And you know what we do with safe toys and gifts? We PLAY with them! Presenting this month's playlist, courtesy of pangolin!

¥+*cringes*+¥

yes, you've got something to say Em?

¥+umm, no, I just- I- didn't think you were going to... use that transition.. y'know, I thought you knew it needed some... work

But, Em! It was a perfectly fine transition! Besides, would you rather me say 'and what's universal? Music!' or 'But what CAN you do while driving? Listen to some music!' instead?

¥+umm.. actually, yes, I would've

oh, um, well... too late for that now! Anyways, the playlist~

December Playlist:

December - Sara Barellies

Machinarium - Lor

Forever Winter - Taylor Swift

Dancer - LEON

Paper Planes - Elina

¥+*jams to the CB Playlist* DeCEMberrr… you’ve always been a PROB-LEM chillld, and I reMEMberrr, when-+¥

§«UGH. Why can’t people in this house just STOP. SINGING!! for once?!? Your voice isn’t any better than Ce’s, Emb. Huff.»§

*** *starts giggling* did you SERIOUSLY just say “huff” Myri?!?***

§«yes, in fact, I did. Got a problem with that?»§

***no, no, of course not, just- *collapses into giggles again* ***

§« *goes to sulk in a corner far far away from annoying AEs* »§

¥+ *meanwhile has just been singing, blissfully unaware this whole time*

*** *is still giggling* *suddenly snorts so hard that bananas shoot out of ears and pinball across the whole room occasionally breaking expensive vases* ***

Uhh well, yeah. Soo that happened! Anyway, moving on! CB Quotes, also... umm... by me... but also not by me! 'Cause, you know, it's, um, other CBer's quotes? Because so cuz it's other people's quotes, it's not BY me, it's by THEM, I only-

¥+ *takes off headphones momentarily while casually dodging a flying banana*  Celi, I think they get the point...

um yeah I’ll stop now it’s Midnight (well, 11:53, 11/29/2023 close enough) I’m tired:

“I was watching the movie A Bottle in the Gaza Sea, which is about the friendship between an Israeli girl and a young Palestinian man, who are drawn together by their common desire for peace. In one scene, a character walks into a cultural/community center, which I think was probably a real Palestinian cultural center. And if you look carefully at the background, you can see an actual issue of Cricket Magazine displayed on a shelf. Which means that random people in Palestine are reading not just Cricket stories, but the Letterbox and contest entries. CBers themselves are being read in Palestine and Israel and who knows where else :)))” - Poinsettia, Cricket literally appeared in a movie!, TM

Yeah, I'm like that too! I'm always having reminders of CBers, especially when I see a word that's the name of a CBer. I love it that now there are so many words that make me think of friends, not just things :)” - Poinsettia, abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

I'm Periwinkle of the Stars, and I don't mess around. ” - Peri, Random Thoughts/Things, DtE

I know it's no secret here that I'm obsessed with the 1862 novel Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. But it truly is one of the Novels of All Time. It really said "Prejudices are the real robbers; vices the real murderers" and "Liberation is not deliverance" and "Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't all war fought between men, between brothers?" and "Oppression is the foreigner" and "There comes an hour when protest no longer suffices; after philosophy there must be action" and "Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions" and "Love is the foolishness of men and the wisdom of God" and "Let no one misunderstand our idea; we do not confound what are called 'political opinions' with that grand aspiration after progress with that sublime patriotic, democratic, and human faith" and "The two highest functionaries of the state are the wet nurse and the school teacher" and "We may be indifferent to the death penalty and not declare ourselves either way so long as we have not seen a guillotine with our own eyes" and "Algebra applies to the clouds; the radiance of the star benefits the rose; no thinker would dare to say that the perfume of the hawthorn is useless to the constellations". Anyway yeah I might be a bit obsessed.” - Silver Crystal, Random Thoughts/Things, DtE

¥+ *takes one look at the enormous paragraph* *runs away in terror* +¥ soo interesting though, so glad you're obsessed, Silver!!

And while we’re on the subject of CB stuff, let’s move on to threads to check, submitted by Moon Wolf!

***Fantasy worldbuilding… ooh!***

Transitions perfectly (well, perfectly enough) into our next section too! Book quotes, courtesy of Amethyst!! :D *ruffles papers* *ruffles papers again more frantically* *checks underneath the table* *checks in the fireplace* *checks in the super secure vault whose code is 1234* *checks in CeCe’s ears, which are still filled to bursting with bananas* *comes up empty* andd, I seem to have misplaced those somewhere. Oh dear me. Oopsy daisy.

Well then, while we’re waiting for that, here are some inspirational quotes from Wafflecat to keep you up and going!

Inspirational quotes:

-  "And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good." -John Steinbeck

- "If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." -Isaac Newton

- "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." -Milton Berle

- "There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." -Edith Wharton

- "It took me quite a long time to develop my voice, and now that I have it, I am not going to be silent." -Madeleine Albright

- "Be messy and complicated and afraid and show up anyways." -Calamity Jane

Some great inspirational quotes there! “Be messy and complicated and afraid and show up anyways”… hmm… well, those book quotes sure are messy and complicated and afraid and do NOT show up anyways!! Now, WHERE are they?!? *searches the whole room again, overturning tables and chairs and probably breaking more than one expensive vase but oh well* *nothing* I give up! I think I’ve got them memorized. Now, let’s see… Edward Eager… The Well-Wishers… “his name was Thomas but he went by Johnathon but he never was, Johnathon, that is”?? No, doesn’t seem right…

::/WAIT. What about there? Para’s bookmark?\::

&*looks up from book* huh?&

Oh!! Saffy, good eye! Para, can I see your bookmark for a second please?”

&oh, um, sure! *pulls bookmark out of book and hands it over*&

*slowly inspects the bookmark* Aha! This is it! The missing quotes!! Thank you Para, you’re a lifesaver!!”

&uhh.. you’re welcome?? *promptly goes back to reading*&

Book quotes, courtesy of Amethyst! :) :

"There were nine young nobles, well built and handsome and (it was thought) intelligent, who were competitors. And there was also one Rabbit." ~A.A. Milne, Prince Rabbit

"Then she sat by the fire, staring into the depths, half-dreaming, watching the golden castles in the flames, the towers that glowed and smouldered and fell wtih a silent clatter of gilded walls. She gazed at the flames, jagged like the antlers of the stags in the forest. They were soft as fur, they blew together in pointed tongues. They changed before her eyes, and lo! there was a golden bear in the great cave of the fire." ~Alison Uttley, The Woodcutter's Daughter

"One of the drawbacks about adventures is that when you come to the most beautiful places you are often too anxious and hurried to appreciate them; so that Aravis (though she remembered them years later) had only a vague impression of grey lawns, quietly bubbling fountains, and the long black shadows of cypress trees." ~C.S. Lewis, The Horse and His Boy

"Kip is a boy called Christopher, only he never is. Never is called that, I mean." ~Edward Eager, The Well-Wishers

***Yayy, book quotes!!***

And now, moving on with the program and keeping with the theme… book of the month! By… oh dear, not me again?:

BotM~The Phantom Tollbooth!

For those who haven’t yet read this whimsical, nonsensical, amazing book filled with wordplay and creativity by Norton Juster, you are sorely missing out! For those who have, this book is always worth a reread! Dive into a world where math and words are at war, a land (and two brothers) is divided, a literal watchdog (with a tragic backstory) keeps time, and more! The Phantom Tollbooth is a thrilling and exciting read for all ages, brought to life with little drawings throughout, while still teaching an important and valuable lesson! It’s small, only 255 pages, but still packs a punch that will leave a lasting impression on you for the rest of your life! Read the story about a boy named Milo who never quite knew what to do with himself now and we guarantee that you’ll leave with a big smile on your face and come back again!

*brushes off suit jacket* I think I handled that quite well

¥+yeah, you really, as you said, “packed a punch” there

Thank you, Emb! Well then, while we’re in the mindset of compliments, I think it’s time we moved on to… the LotM!!! I had such a hard time deciding as they were all wonderful, good job everyone!

Honorable Mentions (as always, in no particular order):

Moon Wolf
, with “looking across an almost frozen sunset-reflecting waterfall”!!

Why: beautiful, but unfortunately can’t fit in the location box

Hawkstar
, with “skating on an ice mirror as cold, white feathers swirl around the air”!!

Why: wonderfully descriptive but, again, the location box rejects it

Thunder
, with “in a snow fort”!!

Why: I want to be in a snow fort!! Also, I love how your location for this month relates with your location for last month’s MCU, “in a blanket fort :)”

Seadragon
, with “a snowfield”!!

Why: I love the endless freedoms and possibilities that seem to bloom with only two words

In Third Place….

Rainbow
with “Dancing with snowflakes”!!

Why: I can really feel the movement and grace and natural flow of this one, and isn’t that every (ok, maybe it’s just me) kid’s dream when winter rolls around?

In Second Place….

pangolin
with “stuck in a chimney HELP”

Why: this one made me laugh so hard and fits in nicely with the holiday spirit, love it! :D

In First Place…

Amethyst
with “sunset across silver ice”

Why: I feel it captures the essence of winter and December perfectly, and you paint such a vivid scene of contrasting colors and natural, quiet, waiting beauty with just a few, simple words. Well done! Congratulations everyone! :)

And while we’re in that happy spirit (assuming, of course, you’re in that happy spirit, which you should be, because, presumably, if you’re reading this, you’ll have always be done stressing about NaNo already you lucky ducks!), guess what time it is?!? It’ssss….

***LUNCH TIME!!!!***

What, no, Ce, have you been watching Bubbles Guppies again?

***maybe…***

Anyways, what I meant to say is… it’s joke time!! You all shared your jokes with us and so now it’s time for us to share them with you!! So… Ig there really wasn’t a point to that… but regardless! Jokes! :)

§«Notice how the MCU gets progressively worse and worse as it gets later and later»§

Well, yes, maybe it does Myri, but, well, that’s how life is sometimes! The longer you live, the progressively worse it gets, until-

§«please forget I ever said anything»§

Oh, umm, ok. Anyways, you still in the mood for jokes? Good! Jokes!!:

Thunder says: What do you call a pup in the snow? A chilly dog (chili dog)!

Moon Wolf says: What type of money to elves use? Jingle bills

pangolin says: why did the small pepper shiver? because it was a little chili.

Hawkstar says: What do you get between a snowman and a shark? Frost bite

And while we’re being efficient here because this MCU has taken literal days and now it’s 11:41 on 11/30/2023 (we started this like 4 days ago) and we’re trying to finish this up to post right at 12:00…

Advice column! We asked you, “ Midterms are coming up! Any studying/test taking advice (especially for a test that covers such a broad range of topics)?

Thunder answered: My test takin' advice is to get a good nights sleep the night before, before you take the test, like when you're on your way to school, quiz yourself on just a few questions, eat a peppermint before you get to school (peppermint helps you solve problems), and take a deep breath beofre you begin.

Moon Wolf answered: I like to study through fun quizzes bc it helps me remember better

pangolin answered: procrastinate and do it all the night before. JUST KIDDING DON'T FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE KIDS. as you can see, i am not qualified to give this kind of advice.

Seadragon answered: sleep well, use scrap paper, and check your answers.

YES ALWAYS CHECK YOUR ANSWERS PEOPLE!! DO NOT SPENT YOUR EXTRA TIME ILLUSTRATING THE WORD PROBLEMS/QUESTIONS INSTEAD (not like I did that on my math/science/history tests 2 weeks ago… *whistles inconspicuously and totally not suspiciously at all*)!!!

LMWAY! Last month we asked you: “what's your favorite way to stay warm during the holiday season (or, if you live in a place like I do, where FOR SOME REASON it's still hot, what's a creative way to stay warm?)?” You came up with some very cool - erm, hot - answers:

Thunder: to get in some nice, comfy PJs, with a nice, hot cup of hot cocoa while I watch TV.

Moon Wolf: Wrap yourself in a warm jacket and drink hot cocoa or tea

pangolin: wrap yourself in blankets and become a burrito (this wording is certainly… interesting)

Hawkstar: Curling up like a cat in an armchair, wrapped in a blanket, and delving into a book world.

Amethyst: Drinking hot chocolate, as has been said, and sticking to a heater or hot air vent with no intention of ever letting go

Rainbow: What I do is I wear about 5 layers every single day, plus a coat (though my face still decides to freeze off) (but this is only when I actually go outside. Often, I'm up in my room, which is another way to stay warm. Stay inside forever)

Well, seems we've gotta get ourselves since hot cocoa, huh? And... I think that wraps it up for today! Let's see if we can post exactly at 12...

§«it's 11:59 we are SO not gonna make it»§

Ok yeah maybe not. BUT!! Wait.. wait for it… wait………….. IT’S TWELVE AM!!!! HAPPY DECEMBER EVERYONE!!! :DDD

but WAIT (yes, some more, please and thank you)! Before you go, we have a very special announcement for you! Are you ready for it? Well, you’d better be, because here’s the announcement….

KYNGDOM EXISTS!!! And it needs YOUR help! Revive Kyngdom!! Yayy!! For those who don’t know, Kyngdom is essentially this enormous fantasy world that we CBers (or Kyngdomers) build throughout RPing (it’s basically like a humongous RP that’s been going on for years and there are lots of conflicts and stuff)!! I’m definitely not the best person to explain this, so here’s the Ultimate Guide to Kyngdom by Hazel C.!! It’s packed, but pretty useful: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/404640. Here’s a shorter, summarized version by Poinsettia if you don’t want to read all that: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/543756. And here’s the question thread where you can ask any question you’d like to about Kyngdom if you REALLY don’t want to read anything… we’ll do our best to try to answer them!: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/kyngdom/node/211357

How do you get to Kyngdom, you ask? Well, there are two ways. You can either go to cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox and click on Kyngdom, or you could go to Inkwell and find the Kyngdom link off to the side there. There are a number of RPs you can currently join (accessed by going to the main Kyngdom page, then clicking on the "RP Board" link at the very bottom", including the Woodland RP, posted by Genivieve, and the Nobyl RP, posted by Poinsettia. We’re hoping to get more RPs accessible by newcomers up and running, so keep an eye out for updates (maybe or maybe not) coming soon! Hope to see you there! Kyngdom forever!! :)

To all the Kyngdomers, I apologize for any mistakes I made, please change this as you see fit. Also is it fine that I just went ahead and did this? A bit late to ask though… :/

Ok, welp, I think that's truly it now. Have a happy and wonderful December (and winter break!!) everyone!!! Thank you to everyone who contributed, and sorry for the quality yes I'm tired CeCe why'd I let you talk me into doing this again?? Also sorry for the loss of your whole morning (sorry admins) reading this too probably. Sending best wishes and lots of joy-

CelineBurning Bright

***Celine who is totally different from Celi!!! Have fun everyone!!! :DD *stuffs more pfeffernusse cookies into mouth* ***

Celi, this is awesome! I'm seriously impressed--this must have taken tons of focus and time. (I've actually been wanting to host an MCU but have been a a little confused, ahaha)

And i just realized your AE and i share the same name (kind of). That's so cool! :>
