CB Reunion 2024

CB Reunion 2024

Hello, everyone! Happy (early) Valentine's Day and welcome to the 2024 CB Reunion! It's so good to see you.

For new CBers who are unfamiliar, the CB Reunion happens every Valentine’s Day. Old CBers come back to talk to their old friends and the current CBers. It’s a lot of fun! While the reunion is a lot of old CBers reconnecting, current CBers are 100% welcome here too, so current CBers should totally feel free to introduce themselves!

Speaking of introducing yourself… I’m Periwinkle, best known as Peri. I’m a current CBer, and I’ve been here since January 2021. I use she/her pronouns. I’m usually seen here working on reviving Kyngdom (which we are in the middle of right now, for old CBers who probably didn’t know that), giving advice, writing about my AEs, and recommending music. I’m also known for creating Make a Friend and Care Packages! I hosted the reunion last year, and I’m hosting again this year.

For those of you who’d like to look through some old reunion threads, here are some. Thanks to Celine (current CBer) for finding the 2023 reunion, and Kitten (old CBer, I believe) for putting some old reunion links in the 2022 reunion and making it way easier for me to organize this list!

And a list of more reunion stuff (also from Kitten, who is fantastic): http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/downtoearth/node/401395

That should be everything! Let me know if there are any problems with the links. Have fun, all <3

(And my apologies if this is up too early — I realized I had a busy week so I decided to post it a tad earlier than I’d planned to. Please keep this topped so everyone can find it come Valentine's Day!)

I forgot T_T I knew I would. Oh well, I will shout some hellos into the void just in case anyone is checking this thread almost a month later:

@Quill, hi!! I'm glad your school and career is going well. I have a lot of fond memories of your art/picturings from Pudding's Place--if you are for some reason still lurking on this thread, are you still into art?

@Sterling, hey! I've missed you. I think we joined around the same time, and I always enjoyed reading your posts. Your art style is so cool too! Good luck venturing into the realm of college (you'll do great!) and I hope to read you around someday :)

@Starseeker, hello! You were one of my CB idols when I first joined in 2020--your art was always amazing and you seemed so genuinely kind and smart.

@Azalea, greetings! Always a pleasure to see you on here. I'm glad you haven't left for good :)

@Lumi HI YOU'RE THE BEST *optional hugs* reading all your past-CB appreciations really made me nostalgic, I miss all those people so much too T_T also, Hozier & boygenius reign supreme.

NOOO I can't believe I missed it!! It's so nice to hear from Lumi, Aza, Chaser & Jay, Sterling, and so many others that I remember that popped in to say hi. Love you all!! (/p) <333

HI IT'S ME KITTEN

I totally forgot about the reunion on Valentine's Day, and I was going to post a couple days after that when I finally remembered, only to find that the website was down?? (Thanks for getting everything back up and running, Admins!) But here I am now, and I hope some people are still around or back :)

Uh, for introductions - hi, I'm Kitten! I use she/they pronouns. I was active on the CB from 2017 to 2021 or so; I never officially left, just kind of drifted off.

The CB holds a really special place in my heart because it was the first online community I was ever part of, and it was where I first got into writing seriously. I would not be the writer or person I am now if not for the CB. It's so cool that the CB is still the same place it was when I was here! Fun fact, the first CB thread I ever posted on was the Poetry Contest, which is still up on the front page of Pudding's Place :)

Life updates - I'm a senior in high school this year and it's A LOT, but I'm really excited about where the future will take me. I'm planning on studying history in college next year. I still write, though not as much as I used to; life happens that way. Lately I've been really into writing fanfic. I've also written some cool things that I'm proud of and excited about for NaNo the past few years (I have the CB to thank for introducing me to NaNo in the first place!). In true writing nerd CB fashion, this year I'm the editor of three different publications at my school.

My latest major obsession, which I've been fangirling over to a truly unnecessary extent, is Six the musical. Other things I've been loving over the past year include: Matilda, Hozier, Kristin Cashore, Paris Paloma, the Murderbot series, T. Kingfisher, Good Omens, Shadow and Bone/Six of Crows, and also growing a massive earring collection.

Some responses to other comments here, in case any of you are still around~

@Lumi - aw it's so so sweet of you to think of me as a role model <3 reading that comment made my day! I remember always admiring your writing too when we were both active here. I'm so glad to hear you're doing well and that we have some of the same interests. You're totally a theater kid already; I feel like the only qualification is loving theater and wanting to do more of it. I honestly consider myself a theater kid even though I don't act and my only participation with theater is ushering and nerding out about it lol

@Star - I love hearing from you every year in the reunion thread! You were one of the CBers who encouraged me to get into writing originally. I still remember reading along with your novel and stories as you posted them and thinking that you deserved to be published someday. It's so cool that you're studying to work in a museum! I would love to work in museums or archives, but I'm a little nervous about going down that path because it has a reputation for being a field with too many interested people and not enough jobs. What has your experience been like with that?

@Ella - wow hi, I remember you! The MCU is such a special part of the CB and you're pretty unforgettable for starting it :) I know I'm late to the party, but I'm here now! Summer is my friend IRL and she's doing really well; I'm sure she'll be flattered to hear you're thinking of her. We wrote a couple ski lodges together back when we were both active here, and we've done a few more writing projects together since then, which has been super fun. In regards to book recs, I'm not sure what counts as modern romanticism, but I always like recommending This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.

oh HECK yeah, we are BACK babeyyy! i have some replies to make although idk if some of the people who stopped in will see them </3

@Quill hello! i remember you and your AEs fondly. i'm so glad you're having a great time in college! <33

@Ruby- whoahhh you're like... a CB icon in my eyes :0 the insight into BAD was actually quite helpful, as publishing is one of the fields i'm hesitantly thinking about. also: a while ago i was attempting to search for an old post on the CB and came across someone back when you were active saying that Ruby M. "prefers to go genderless" which i think is a wonderful phrase.

@Ella Starburst- i don't think we ever really talked, but ofc i remember you from the MCUs! it's really impressive that you created a lasting tradition here, but i hope you'll come back sometime without the stress of those. also- i need to listen to more AJR but i like what i've heard, mitski is awesome, and WILL WOOD OH MY... y'all don't understand how much i love will wood. his voice? beautiful. the music? catchy and amazingly varied. the lyrics? hilarious, beautiful, and capable of sending me down rabbitholes. your description is quite accurate. (younger cbers do proceed w/ caution, some songs deal with heavy topics) favorite song/album?

i've been dying to make this post for 3 weeks aaa yayyy

YES, another Will Wood fan! I discovered him when Against the Kitchen Floor randomly popped up in my online reccomended, and it's not only my favorite song of his, but my favorite song of all time. I adore how he mixes classical and electronic components without sounding like a dubstep remix of the Hallelujah chorus. His lyrics are the perfect blend of hard to understand, fun to say, and incredibly relatable. ICIMI is also my favorite album.

Will Wood's music helped me become comfortable with my simultaneous love for the weird and the serious. It's cliche, but it helps me know that I'm not alone.

What about you? What's your favorite album/song?

Yeah!! I also love the way he uses 60s style backing vocals in some songs, it makes for a really cool vibe. In The Song With Five Names, did you know the bridge where he says "gimme that old time religion" that's actually an old hymn!

I'm so glad to find another ICIMI lover! That was also the album that made me really fall in love w his music. It's so emotionally devastating. I couldn't choose a real favorite album or song, but ...well, better than the alternative has a special place in my heart <3

so glad you saw my reply! :D

Hi everyone! Sybill here. I'll be honest, I completely forgot about the reunion on Valentine's, and then when I finally remembered the site was down, haha. Anyway, I'm glad to finally be here! If you don't know me, I was active on the CB (mostly on Kyngdom) like... a while ago? I think I joined around 2017 maybe and then left in 2021 or 2022. My memory isn't perfect on this.

It's great to see new and old names! I don't have time to read all the posts right now but I'll try to soon. Things are going well for me! I've been doing a LOT of digital artwork; I'll try to upload some here at some point. I'm still working towards getting my Physician's Assistant degree, so that's fun. And a lot of work. I also have a lot of OCs and characters for various works right now. When I have more time, I'll come back and talk about them because I love them. Anyway, it's great to be here! Hope you're all having a lovely day.

It's good to hear from you, Sybill! Thanks for taking the time to check in.

aaah so cool to see you :) I remember seeing you in Kyngdom

It's so cool that you're getting your Physician's Assistant degree!

What's your favorite part of CB?

Hi, Moon Wolf! I feel like I'm obligated to say Kyngdom. I also really liked the Inkwell too. Roleplays and solo writes are what started my passion for writing and character creation. Sometimes I still go back and read the old threads on Kyngdom. My old writing makes me cringe, but it's still fun to see what sorts of things I was creating when I was younger.

Woah hi, Sybill! It's really cool to meet you! I'm Hawkstar, she/her. You definetely dedicated a lot to Kyngdom, which is just super great! I'm fairly new to Kyngdom, recently started to RP on there at the beginging of the year. But I have seen your name around there on old posts a lot!

Ooh digital art- I hope you do upload! And that's really cool that you are working to get a Physician's Assistant degree- good luck!!

Hey there, Hawkstar! Honestly it's really cool to see people introducing themselves with their pronouns. Definitely wasn't the norm when I was on the CB but it's awesome that it is now-- I'm a guy but the user 'Sybill' definitely sounds feminine so there's usually some confusion there, lol. It's also great to see Kyngdom being revived! I'm definitely too busy to jump back in now but know that it'll always be important to me. I'm pretty sure the CB only allows one image uploaded at a time, so I'll add one of my more recent pieces to this.

XD I know! But yeah, I'm glad people do that too, cause I'd hate to call somebody something that they'd not prefer, y'know? Totally understandable that you are too busy nowadays-- good luck again!!

Also, WOWZERS that's good! He (?) is so handsomw! I love how you did the hair, and his gaze :)
