Chatterbox: Crowd Sorcery

Hero or Heroine

Hero or Heroine

I’m so excited when I start a new story! Most writers believe that the single most important part is the characters. If readers fall in love with your characters—especially the main character—they will read to the end, feeling every emotion, taking part in the adventures. So as we work together toward building our story, please give a lot of thought to the conversation on this thread. Share your own best ideas, think about ideas others come up with, and discuss ways to make the character as interesting and memorable as possible.

Be original, and don’t be afraid to be surprising! What if the main character had a really unusual background or ability or fear? What if she were a girl who could only come out in the moonlight because a witch cast a spell on her great-grandmother? If you’re like me, you’ll find that the more questions you ask and answer about the main character, the more the story will begin to write itself in your head!

For example, if I wanted to introduce the girl who could only come out in the moonlight, I might write: “Quill pushed aside the velvet drape and peeked out through the window’s glass to where the moon glowed, huge and silver, behind the oak trees. It was their nightly ritual, Quill and the moon each peeping through curtains to see if the other were awake.”

I can’t wait to see your ideas! Here’s my list of traits for brainstorming the main character. After you have your ideas, you can write a Crowd Sorcery Sentence, or two or three, that might introduce your character in the story.

1. Name

2. Appearance

3. Background

4. Personality

5. How is he/she different from others?

6. What does he/she most desire or hope for?

7. How is he/she strong?

8. How is he/she weak or vulnerable?

9. What does he/she fear most?

10. Your Crowd Sorcery Sentence(s)

The voting for hero and heroine is now complete. Go here to see our main character and learn the schedule for creating and voting on a villain and sidekick.

You can still add to this Hero and Heroine thread for fun.

Sor, for the description I forgot to mention Phoenix's outfit, it's a black leather jacket with a silvery white t-shirt inside that glitters in the moonlight because it's made by fairies, and faded worn-out black-blue jeans with some ripped holes. He also wears tattered sneakers that are a faded silvery black with a white design and symbol with golden shoe laces. They are very sturdy.  Another thing I forgot to mention, his nickname, everyone just calls him Faren. He keeps to himself and tends to slip around unnoticed by acting pretty confident in public crowded places and shuts up in alleyways. I also forgot to mention he has a tendency to literally DISAPPEAR into a shadow, another type of magic ability he mastered, unknowingly.

Suggestion for how Fable and Araceli meet Phoenix Faren: Fable and Araceli (Lumine) travel to the city nearby for part of the prophecy and they meet him because they know he is the one the second they see him. Araceli senses his powers.

Name: Perdita Lyntil

Appearance: auburn hair, greenish-grey eyes, very pale skin.

Backround: She doesn't know, but she is actually a long-lost princess. She also has a weird prophesy regarding her name, her surname was taken from her foster mother. She is an orphan.

Persinaloty: Kind and well-meaning, but has a horrid temper. She also tends to say what she thinks without meaning to hurt anyone. She really hates her name, because, well, it means "the lost one", duh! Has recently been having strange nightmares, maybe from her forgotten past?

How she is different from e verybody else: She can read and write, and she doesn't believe it when people tell her, but she is very smart.

Desires: Peace on earth, and to find out who she is.

Strenghts: She has a very strong feeling of right and wrong, and is not afraid of standing up for people in need, and for her beliefs.

Weaknesses: She sometimes hurts other people's feelings and gets herself in huge trouble with her temper.

Fears: Spiders, hurting people by accident, and that she will never find out who her parents are.

My sentence: " I stood in the doorway to the castle, nervously fumbling with my apron strings. A thousand thoughts swirled around my head like a stampede of wild horses.

1. Robyn Maisie Tallow

2. Rusty red hair ALWAYS in a braid or ponytail; wide, curious eyes (one is green, one brown); four feet tall (12 years old); skinny but strong and fast (speed, reactions and thought); wears comfortable, loose clothes except on Sudays (skirts).

3. Lives on a farm with aunt and uncle and cousin after her parents died mysteriously. Cousin's name is Harper, he is 15 and is generally too busy and proud to care about her. Her aunt and uncle don't care what she does as long as she doesn't shame them, but they fawn over Harper.

4. Loves drawing, anything to do with the arts. A bit lonely, but her power to draw things to life occupies her. She recently found that she could draw living creatures, who she often grants the ability to talk or weird things, like a raccoon with spikes or scales instead of fur. Her grades are very average, and most kids ignore her. She's very kind and good hearted, but doesn't have any close friends and spends all her time drawing, secretly granting good things (for example, when the doctor's carriage broke down near their farm while he was on an emergency mission, she drew him a wheel and told him she found it in an old shed). Doesn't much care for her life, and wishes she could seek out adventure.

5. Robyn has a power to make anything she draws come to life. She can even bring real creatures to life. No one else knows of this but her. In normal life, she is a bit of a loner, but doesn't mind as her artsy creations keep her company.

6. She most wants to get out into the world and find use of her talents, but she doesn't know how. She can feel kinda helpless at times. As well, she wishes she could never grow up.

7. Robyn is strong, as even without friends she's still really nice, and suffers occasional teasing. Also, she's kept her secret for nearly all her life, without giving in to the temptation of people wondering at her in awe, or just for a confident to show off to.

8. She knows that some day she is going to grow up, but she doesn't want to, and wishes she could remain a child forever. She weak because she's never really had all the childhood experiences with family and friends, and has become a bit of a recluse. She doesn't care what people think of her, but when people try to talk to her she doesn't know what to say, and people often feel insulted or that she's really shy.

9. She fears most the loss of her power. She simply doesn't know what she would do, how she would cope. As well, she is terrified of heights.

10. Nobody was around; her aunt was shut away in her workroom, painting quietly. Her uncle was no doubt out in the wagon with Harper, showing him the reins and telling him how enourmously proud he was of all his "achievements." Robyn snorted in disgust, having never been fond of her boring, rather obsessive aunt and uncle. But she had no time to dwell on that now, she thought, and pulled out her fresh sketchbook. It smelled of pine and a sweet, cinnaomony flavour. Robyn leant back against the thick oak, picturing the wonders she would bring to life, and set the heavy pencil reverntly to the page. She began to draw.

SAPPHIRE NADINE, age 13

She has pale skin, long wavy black hair, purple-colored eyes, glasses, and a mischievious grin pretty much plastered on her face.

Sapphire comes from the future, around 2050. She is really smart and is good with technology. She finds out that she is magical when she was 7. She has an evil twin sister who frames her as a murderer. Luckily, she escapes the police by traveling back in time to modern-day.

Sapphire is generally rebellious, determined, and witty and tends to get angered or annoyed easily. Well-known for her sarcasm, she is described as "weird" "funny" and "the most annoying person in the world" by her close friends(who she left behind in the 2050's.) She is quick-witted, sly, and a good liar. At times she can be greedy, indecisive, inpatient, or stubborn.

Her main motive would probably be her own survival, fun, money, or power, but she has a soft spot when her friends are in danger.

She can manipulate her magic well and uses technology to her advantage. She is quick and sneaky, too.

She works mostly solo, so she tends not to use teamwork. Also, she happens to have really bad luck. Her skills with a bow and arrow are... well, she would rather not talk about that.

Sapphire wouldn't admit it, but she is actually afraid of many things... monsters, heights, death, faliure, you name it...
