Chatterbox: Down to Earth

On the "Global

On the "Global Warming is..." thread, I noticed people talking about God. That thread took a long time to load for me, so I am posting here.

People were saying that there is no evidence that God exists. Here are some questions:

1. Where did humans come from? Some of these ideas circulating *coughbigbangtheorycough* are just outlandish- something exploded and a whole race of humans was born? *skeptical snort*

2. Where did that ideas about religion come from? If God doesn't exist (which He does!) then where did these ideas come from? I believe that Jesus came down from Heaven to save the World from sin. And that is why He would save us from anything (@ people on GW thread). He loves us.

3. If we don't believe that there's something bigger than us, we really are in trouble. We start thinking that we are above everything else and all-powerful, and this isn't true. SOMEONE had to create everything in the universe, and if we don't at least acknowledge that then we have no hope.

I believe very firmly in God. I'm a Catholic and proud of it. People were saying that there's no proof that God exists. I disagree, with flying colors. There is so much proof from people everywhere that it's undeniable, in fact. I've prayed to God and He's pulled through in the most amazing ways. My friends agree with me; it's happened for them too, and many other people I know. We've all experienced miracles. I know I have.

Please post your opinions on God here. Summarizing my post: I very firmly believe.

What is your definition of a soul? The dictionary's definition is: "Soul: the spiritual or immaterial part of a human OR ANIMAL, regarded as immortal." My definition is that anything alive has a soul. As an atheist, I don't believe that man was God's Plan. So, out of the point of view of an atheist, if you aren't an amphibian, mineral or vegetable, then animal is the only thing left, and all the definitions of "animal" match up with us. And animals are concious: a spot was put on the forehead of an elephant, they set up a mirror, and it touched the spot ON ITS FOREHEAD while looking in the mirror, which means it knew that there was not another elephant on the other side of the mirror, and that the elephant in the mirror was itself. I hope you understand what I'm talking about? I really don't want to offend anyone. I just want to show you what I'm thinking and hear what you have to say.

Bravo, Hi! I am not a monkey either, and I agree about the war. It is not pointless. I also agree that humans are MUCH smarter than dolphins.

@ Maddy: agree with that too.

Pirocks: please explain a little more. How does having a God (once again, going to use that term "epitome of the love of a religion of love") make me more stuck up than someone who believes that there is no supreme beng ordering the universe, or at least SOMETHING like that? Human beings need reverence for something other than themselves- smarter-than-dolphins though we are, we are not the great everyhing!

Pirocks was not speaking about Dolphins knowing what 2+2 is! They don't need to know that anyways. Look at us, all these wars is because people don't agree with each other. It shows that we don't get along. Back to Dolphins, now have you seen them fight or hurt eachother in any sort of way? Nope. Because they agree with each other and make better desions than us.

Dolphins have conciousness. They can recognize themselves in the mirror. They help animals in trouble, even if they aren't dolphins. How do you KNOW dolphins aren't God's chief creatures? Have you asked God? 1st, the terrorists are a very small group of extremists, not large enough to kill everyone. Yes, they do pose a threat, but I think they have been massivley over-blown, and over-exagerated.

Playing.....one of the greatest joys of life? I don't think so. I think knowing, loving, and serving God and being happy with him in Heaven is the greatest joy we will ever know.

I think - and remember, this is just my opinion - that the 'greatest joys of life' are totally different for everyone. For me, I think writing is one of the greatest joys of life. :)

I wasn't saying playing is THE greatest joy. Greatest joys are for YOU PERSONALLY. MY greatest joy is nice, healthy, debate, such as what we have here. Your greatest joy can be serving your religion, or as you put it "knowing, loving, and serving God." I wasn't saying playing is better than that, I was saying it was close, or nearish to that.

This is getting very irritating. Did it ever occur to

you that we are one species of our own? That we

didn't "evolve" from a monkey etc., etc., ect...

If you think about it, monkey idea doesn't really

make much sense. (No offence to those of you

who agree with the monkey, "evolution" idea)

It is proven that a monkey is 99% human, with that last percent making it into what we define as a monkey.

@Hi: monkeys are more like us than you think. There was a monkey (who died a year or two ago) that used sign language. They have better memories than humans, (a test was done several times using college students vs. monkeys) they use tools, have wars, and take care of each other. They don't eat there young, like some frogs do, and they don't abandon them, or a sick member of their clan/tribe. They can be very brutal, and very sweet. They don't just climb trees with ease (which I would give a lot to be able to do) and eat bananas with their feet. And who wouldn't want opposable toes?
@Megan: as for evolution, did you know that Charles Darwin, the author of "The Theory of Evolution" was a devout Catholic until he spent five years on a ship (the HMS Beagle) and changed what he believed in based on the notes he had taken, the lands he had seen, and the obviously ancient mountain chains?

Maybe monkeys are alot like us, but that still doesn't make us monkeys. I would go into a religious explanation, but I see that that won't work.

Ditto Hi! I utterly agree with everything you said!

Anyone who believes in "evolution" cannot claim to be a Catholic; the Bible clearly does not say anything about people "evolving" from monkeys.

I just snuck up a quick "hi" on here just to say a few things, but sorry, I'm leaving. I'm not the type that goes ON AND ON about religion and all that. I just don't like to watch it when soooo many people disagree with each other! (even though you're all very mature about it!)
