Chatterbox: Down to Earth

On the "Global

On the "Global Warming is..." thread, I noticed people talking about God. That thread took a long time to load for me, so I am posting here.

People were saying that there is no evidence that God exists. Here are some questions:

1. Where did humans come from? Some of these ideas circulating *coughbigbangtheorycough* are just outlandish- something exploded and a whole race of humans was born? *skeptical snort*

2. Where did that ideas about religion come from? If God doesn't exist (which He does!) then where did these ideas come from? I believe that Jesus came down from Heaven to save the World from sin. And that is why He would save us from anything (@ people on GW thread). He loves us.

3. If we don't believe that there's something bigger than us, we really are in trouble. We start thinking that we are above everything else and all-powerful, and this isn't true. SOMEONE had to create everything in the universe, and if we don't at least acknowledge that then we have no hope.

I believe very firmly in God. I'm a Catholic and proud of it. People were saying that there's no proof that God exists. I disagree, with flying colors. There is so much proof from people everywhere that it's undeniable, in fact. I've prayed to God and He's pulled through in the most amazing ways. My friends agree with me; it's happened for them too, and many other people I know. We've all experienced miracles. I know I have.

Please post your opinions on God here. Summarizing my post: I very firmly believe.

Monkeys are not 99% human. Chimpanzees and humans share 98.5% of the same genes. Just because we have some of the same genes as chimps doesn't mean that we are monkeys. That's sort of like saying we're mice, just because we share 60% of our genes with them.

And seriously, that's just illogical. Animals act on instinct; they do not make choices; peole do. People think, love, and disagree- animals do not. Animals do not feel emotions like humans do. And those are facts.

Humans act on instinct, too. It's instinct when you are walking down a dark hall and are getting a little scared and take off running, for one example, or if someone pops out of a room and scares you, to scream and coil up into a smaller target. I think that animals do make choices, regarding food, where to sleep for the night, etc. Animals can certainly disagree--think of a cat with a mouse: if another cat comes along, they might fight it out over the mouse. And looking at a monkey combing its baby's fur with its fingers makes me think that they definitely love. And I think that they can feel sadness, and certainly happiness--think of a dog frolicking on a sunny day. Just because they do not have a concept of death (that we know of) or have a god or goddess which they stand under (and they might--we don't know that either) doesn't mean they have no emotions.

You make a good point, bu I still say that because of what the Bible says, anmals don't have souls, but forget it for now, because the Administrators say our discussion is getting a bit heated.

Well, we made it to almost 140 posts! :D

Wow... 140 posts! Mention God and that's what you get, I guess. I'm on with the Admin now, I think!
