Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Did you guys

Did you guys know that Asian-American students have to score 140 points more on their SATs than white students, 270 points more than Hispanics and 450 points more than African-Americans to get the same stupid chance at getting into Harvard?!

Whywhywhywhywhy?!!!!!

That's unfortunate. But it's life. Life isn't fair for anyone. Honestly, it's more of a gift. I'd love to have that opportunity.

When women were not allowed to vote BECAUSE OF THEIR GENDER, did they sit back and say "life's not fair"? When African Americans couldn't use certain bathrooms BECAUSE OF THEIR RACE, did they sit back and say "life's not fair"? Come on!

But still, I understand how this is frustrating, and it makes me mad too, but it's not a complete injustice. It's one test, one Harvard, one little thing. It doesn't matter that much.

I read that article that you got that from, and that is true, but not because you have to work harder. It's because they want a well-rounded culture group, so plenty of blacks and hispanics, and then Asians are discriminated against, but I've also seen that white have the same problem.

Whites have that problem, but less than Asians. 140 points less, to be exact.

And wanting a well-rounded culture group doesn't make it any less fair. DID I CHOOSE TO BE CHINESE?! For Merlin's sake.

I think that I'm going to lie about my race on my college application. I want to get in as a human, not an Asian.

Are there not some colleges that don't ask applicants about race? Or at least make that question optional?

Mei-Xue, I get that you are upset that this world is a biased, prejudiced place, but other people have it hard, too. Ok? I get that you are upset about Asian discrimination, but other people have problems. Yes, I know, it isn't racism towards whites, but there is prejudice.

I'm not saying white people have it worse.

I'm saying that I have it worse than a lot of Asians.

In my area.

Why?

Because I was horrifically BULLIED for 8 years STRAIGHT because, oh look, I'm not Asian. SO I can't be smart. I am a dumb blonde.

Guess what? I'm human, too. Just because you are Asian and other Asians have issues doesn't mean that it's like that everywhere.

Because literally, anyone can be the antagonist in a story.

Ok, sorry for ranting.

But did I choose to be white? No.... does it matter? Yes.... Is it a lot better than a lot of things? Yes... Am I viewed as and bullied because I have pale skin, blonde hair, green, Native American eyes and a stereotype about chicken wings and dead air between my ears... yes...

I am NOT a stereotype.

And I didn't choose to be white.

You didn't choose to be Chinese.

You are not a stereotype.

And I don't think it's ok to want a well-rounded culture group. There are good reasons, but they don't outweigh the bad.

Stop the sterotypes, people. They mess up everything.

The reason I'm posting a lot of things about Asian racism is because of the misconception that ASIANS DON'T FACE RACISM!!! In the 1900s, we actually fared no better than the African Americans, in terms of slurs, lynchings, et cetera. But how come we only learn about African American racism at school? So I'm trying to balance it out a bit.

Yes, Asians face racism, but not nearly to the extent Blacks have. Asians inhabit more of the world than Americans and whites. OK?

After Angel Island, we fared no worse than Afticans after the Civil War. No one has ever heard of a Chinese being lynched, AND YET WE WERE!!!! Why does no one know?

However, I think all the top colleges--Princeton, Harvard, et cetera--are racist. And I don't want to go to just any college. *Sigh*

Probably because Asians are stereotyped "smart" or "nerds", so everybody expects so much more from them, just because of their stereotype.

It's so much more than a little stereotype! It's much worse.

Well I'm probably going to have to get higher grades then the normal white student because I'm homeschooled, but I'm not complaining!
