Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Religion. Just to

Religion. Just to let you know, Christianity is a pathway to a relationship with God and Heaven. Read the Bible and think again about what you believe. I'll go in depth later, but please tell me about what your religions are and what you believe. :)

Yes, but they effectively exist, as it's very hard to go back in time and prove they don't. You can't prove they do exist, but you can't prove they don't, and if they didn't, and the ruling people knew and didn't want you to know, then they effectivly exist. Also, I wouldn't say it's narrow-minded and obscurist.  Sorry if I offend anyone, but it's true.

OK, in that case, you also can't go back in time

and "scientifically" prove that God does or doesn't

exist. So, effectively He exists as well. (By the way,

I'm not trying to make anyone mad. I'm not

trying to make enemies, but when I'm in a debate

it's hard to get me to be quiet ;) )

People can't see cells without special devices. So technically you can't really see them, can you?
A long time ago if someone came up and said, "Hey, did you know that you're made up of these tiny little cells that you can't see with your own eyes?" Everyone would be like, "Oh, sure. DUH! I'm not made out of cells!? I can't see them, or feel them, or hear them. They aren't there!" And of course, since this is before all the fancy technology you wouldn't be able to prove it. But does that mean that it's not true? No. Now we have the ability to, so you can argue that you CAN sense cells because you can see them if you have the right devices. But still there's a little of something in this argument right? I'm getting confused. AHHHH!!!! :D:D:D

Jesus came down to earth and became man, so yeah, people have seen God in the flesh.

That is written in the Bible.  The fact that it is written in the Bible does not necessarily mean it's true.  And . . . if God is what "He" is in the Bible, it would mean he would be visible, right?  Since people supposedly SAW "Him"?  (In my opinion, referring to God as "Him" and the whole Adam and Eve part--is that called Genesis?--is pretty sexist . . . no offense.) But I must admit, you guys are good debaters. :)

No. People knew Jesus. People witnessed the miricles. They knew he was God and passed it on. They wrote it in the Bible. Now we use the Bible as a part of our faith, because it hasn't changed over the years. If our faith had passed word of mouth all the way till now.... well... it wouldn't be the same. So yeah, the bible is what tells us that Jesus was God, but the people who wrote it knew him. Ugh, does that make any sense?? :D

I completely agree with this, Pirocks. I am not religous, and neither are my parents. Evolution just makes more sense, seeing the things that people have found. No offense to any believers, it's just my opinion. As for God seeing everything you do, I truly believe that it was just made up to scare little kids, like the Bogeyman and Michael Jackson.

But Michael Jackson was real. Also, evolution actually has very many holes; Charles Darwin himself said, "To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances for
adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different
amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic
aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I
freely confess, absurd in the highest possible degree. (Darwin 1872)".

And really. Look at your hand. Look at all it can do, if you want it to. You can make it write letters, play the piano, tune an instrument, fix a car. Look at the human mind. We are intelligent enough to have all of these debates. We are intelligent enough to question things we are taught, whether it be evolution or humanism or Hinduism or any of those religions. I once read that there is no computer we could ever make that would compare to the "computer" of our brains.

Look at the universe, the intricacy of every animal, of the leaves on a tree, the variations of those leaf patterns . . . the stars and all they are made of . . . And you would truly believe that evolution made all that? That one tiny little cell, by random chance, would become everything we see today? I am not trying to be sarcastic, but our universe and everything in it just seems far too complex to have been made by random chance.

Evolution gives us no point in life. Some people say that our only point is to procreate, like every other animal. So then why should we care for each other? Why do we have rules that say if you kill or abuse or attack a person you will be sent to jail? You are nothing. I am nothing. That is what evolution says.

God watching everything we do is not the point of Christianity. But that is a discussion for another time.

I am jewish but I agree with meadow. I also ( no offense ) believe that God( and heaven and Hell) where madee up so that people wouldn't feel sad when someone dies( its easier to believe that then they are completely dead) and to control people ( like in medieval times). Its okay when people keep to themselves about what they believe in but when they try to make people convert, say " I will pray for you" if you tell them you dont believe in God, or go on and on and on about how Jesus is our savior and if you dont believe in him( helloo im Jewish!!) you shall be punished, I get really mad. Sorry if this has offended anyone and sorry that I used the word Hell please dont zap it admin!!!!!

But, I agree with you on the part with Heaven and Hell and God. Religion is VERY useful for controlling people. Think of Hitler.... actually, don't. He's too mean. :D

OK, see, that's what I don't get. How can you be Jewish and not believe in God and heaven and hell...? Although I also do not think people should go around saying, "You're going to heck if you don't believe in God," we as  Christians can't keep our beliefs to ourselves because according to the Bible, we are supposed to "go and make disciples of all nations". We tell others about the Gospel because this glorifies God. It isn't because we're trying to convert people, because we can't.

And I don't think Christianity can be used to control people. People choose to be controlled and believe in the twisted ideas others take from Christianity and other religions; they can never be forcibly  made to do something.

Lauren, in your post you mentioned the bible is telling you to go and tell people about the religion in hopes that they will change their minds. Don't you think that it is controlling you already??? Please don't be offended!!!!!!!!!!!!!
