Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Religion. Just to

Religion. Just to let you know, Christianity is a pathway to a relationship with God and Heaven. Read the Bible and think again about what you believe. I'll go in depth later, but please tell me about what your religions are and what you believe. :)

You see? These folks were merely having a civilized conversation, but you wanted them  to stop from the start. That is not fair to those who wish to discuss it and know how to behave themselves. I do not think discussing religion is as bad as you think it is.Frown

Smith's right. But we have been getting just a tad heated. Not horribly, because than the Administrators wouldn't post it, but still. And some people take offense (I think; I don't, but I'm not awfully sensitive).

I agree with Smith, except I've been debating a lot lately and it's getting a bit tiring and repeteitive for me.  I'd rather debate about other things. :) And, Smith, hi!  I don't believe I've seen you before.  Are you new here?  If so, welcome! :)

I'm not any  religion.  But that's good.  That means I can accept everyone's beliefs and hold my own.  My dad is almost anti-religious, but I think that's wrong.  I don't think people should be treated differently just because they think different things.  I guess you're all gaping at the screen now.  Sorry.

Cramer, I think that I am the same kind of Christian as you are. I believe that Jesus came to earth, preached to others about God, was God's one and only son, died for our sins and rose again on the third day. I also believe that if you "confess your sins and are faithful and just that God will forgive your sins and clense you of all unrighteousness" and when you die, you will go to heaven to be with God forever. Cramer, please tell me what you think.

Why do you want to know?

Religion is sort of a touchy topic. I mean, it's weird; Islam, Judaism, and Christianity ARE SO SIMILAR!

Similarity 1: Jerusalem is a holy city to all 3.

Similarity 2: Abraham is the forefather of all 3.

Similarity 3: all monotheist beliefs

Similarity 4: All believe in a final "judgement day" or whatever you want to call it.

And yes, I do believe in God, but I sort of merge the idea of Yahweh and God (Jewish and Christian) together. They are the same God, k'? It's not so hard to understand. My mom's a Christian. My dad doesn't practice anything. But that's because my grandparents/great grandparents, I strongly suspect, were Jews. They escaped from Germany in the 1930s and never practiced their religion again. So, with this whole Jewish/Christian thing, why do we have to choose? The only difference is pretty much the holidays, and some rules, and the whole "messiah is Jesus/messiah has not come" thing. Let us just say, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE CHRISTIAN (ALL THE WAY CHRISTIAN ) TO BELIEVE IN GOD!

So, KitKat, you are right about the similarities between Christianity and Judaism. But there is a whole lot of signifigance to Messiah has already come/Messiah has not come yet. Thet is the major difference. Don't get me started, though, on how Islam is not the same at all.

Well, technically, the major teachings of the two religions are pretty much identical. There IS significance to the messiah thing, i know,  but God/Yahweh are the same, and the Christians were Jewish before, and everything like that.

Well, Jews don't believe that Jesus was the Son of God, which means that they don't believe in the saints, the Eucharist, the pope (not that protestants believe these things either) so that sets Christians and Jews way off at some points. The word Christian means you believe in Christ, hence the name, and Jews do not believe that.

I believe in saints, too. I just believe they are chosen only by God, and so we don't know who they are. Also I beleive it does no good to pray to them any more than to pray to any other dead person.

Well, that's not true, according to what God says in the Bible.
