Chatterbox: Down to Earth

Religion. Just to

Religion. Just to let you know, Christianity is a pathway to a relationship with God and Heaven. Read the Bible and think again about what you believe. I'll go in depth later, but please tell me about what your religions are and what you believe. :)

Why can't we just agree to disagree on this topic instead of hurting people's feelings and not respecting what they believe? You're going to say there's nothing wrong if people want to discuss religion, but if 'discussing religion' means erupting into arguments and put-downs, there IS something wrong. I am honestly not directing this at anyone in particular, but the tone of these threads are not comfortable. I thought we'd forgotten all about this. Please do not take offense, but I mentally cringe when I see these threads. And yes, I can stay off them if I want, but they end up taking over the Chatterbox. I go on the Chatterbox and I'm looking for an escape from all this stuff you can hear grown-ups fighting over every day. If the Chatterbox becomes a place like that, I'm leaving.

Maybe we ought to make a request then. Admin, do you think somewhere in the near future you guys could make a place specifically to discuss politics, religion, and the like - as long as it doesn't turn into arguments - so that others won't have to see it and be bothered by it? I mean, the Cricket mag encompasses so many topics, including religion; it would kind of be a pity to see the topic completely eradicated. I think we ought to still be able to talk about it, because it's a part of everyone's lives, and often people are curious about someone else's religion. I think some find it nice to get answers and insight from those the same age as them.

You are allowed to discuss a wide range of topics, but posts need to be extremely respectful. Posts regarding religion should be in accord with what you might find published in Cricket stories or the Letterbox. The Chatterbox is not the place for either dismissive attitudes on the one hand, or proselytizing for a particular faith on the other. Discussions of political topics are held to a high standard of courtesy, and shouldn't take to task particular political parties or politicians by name. This would be our standard whether or not there is a separate place on the site for such discussions.

Isn't it just obvious how to be good to each other? Don't do mean things. Do what you know is right.

No offense, but if it was that obvious, we'd have a lot less problems these days. Mostly everyone has a different idea of what mean things are and how to be good to each other. But I've said enough. I'll just shut up and hope this fades away on its own. Good-bye.

Lena, you asked about another comment you sent not being posted. I'm not sure if it was deleted. There are 3 Admins who post comments. If you think  it got lost, you could send it again, but you know we reserve the right to not post anything unkind or on a topic too advanced for our younger readers.

JFB, yes, doing what is right, like giving to the poor, helping the elderly, all of that, is good, what God wants us to do, but that's not how you are going to get to Heaven if you don't believe in God.  Well, I shouldn't say that, because I don't know of course.  But I don't think God will let people into Heaven if they don't believe, worship, love Him...

I'm sorry, I got really angry.  I apologize.  This is why I try not to read these threads!!!!

@ R~D~: I agree, yes, you're on the right track. Very close to what I beleive; although God wants you to do good, that's not what gets you into heaven, because everyone also does bad things. So God says in the Bible, if you beleive in Jesus, He will forgive your sins and you will be able to go to heaven. That's what my beleif is, so, um, I said it, and I'm not going to be arguing or anything about it right now because this conversation looks like its going downhill. Bye.

So even if you're the nicest person on Earth, helping everyone, even at great cost to yourself, but don't believe in god, you still don't go to heaven?

I'm not posting on here anymore. Lena's right! That's a good habit of hers she should teach the rest of us sometime... No, but really. These religion/politics/etc. threads get too heated, and probably also makes life harder for our admin.

Adios, amigos!

Yeah, that always seemed a bit corrupt to me. (No offense, anybody, as I'm sure that there may be a reasonable explanation.) And on the other side, You could be the biggest jerk ever to walk the face of the planet, kicking puppies and stealing and murdering, but say your prayers (okay, more than say your prayers, but you get what I'm saying) and you're covered? I'm confused by this.

I have gone to a Church of Christ, my parents are Christians, and I believe in God. Does anyone else listen to Jonathan Park? It's really cool. It talks about Creation, and it's amazing!

SudoR: Well, that's a hard one. And I don't think I should answer that because I don't fully understand everything about it too. But what I can say is, You get to Heaven by believing that Jesus died on the cross for EVERYONE'S sins. Sorry if I sound like I'm not a help, but, you may want to consult a preacher from a Church of Christ for that one.

SudoR: I think that you have to be sorry for the bad things that you did in your life, and try not to do them anymore along with praying and believing.

I believe in God, and I'm a Christian, but the Bible is honestly the most confusing thing that I have ever read.

Well, yes and no, SudoR and Pirocks. It's not just saying your prayers. You could be the biggest jerk that ever walked the face of the planet, even if you stole and lied, and murdered somebody, if you repent of it all and believe that Jesus died to save you from it, you can still go to heaven.

On the flip side, I think you can be the nicest person in the world, and give to the poor, and still all it takes it one tiny little sin and then you've disobeyed God and need Jesus to save you if you are going to go to heaven. And no one is perfect.

@ SudR: So (pretending) you do all those things, but you also believe that God is real and say your prayers. But that does not mean that you are going to heaven. It simply means that you believe there is a God. Even Satan believes that God is real.

I believe all this: the only way that you can go to heaven is through Jesus Christ, God's own son! Simply believing that God is real is not enough. You must believe that God sent down his only son, Jesus to die on the cross, for us. John 3:16 God so loved the world that he gave is only begotten son that who ever believes in him will never die but have eternal life. God has given us the choice to either accept or decline this precous gift. I hope this makes sense enough to understand it. This is the first time I have ever been in a debate (on this site). Oh and I am also new! I hope I didn't offend anyone!
