New Sydneton (NS),

Chatterbox: Inkwell

New Sydneton (NS),

New Sydneton (NS), for those who don't know, is a very large city with only a few really big schools. All our characters go to one school (high school) there is large rich part with few houses (loads of trees and wide, clean streets etc.) and very poor part that’s not so clean. There is a large lake (good setting for things) and the city's known for having so much stuff and people from around the world! Also it has a rather small mall and grocery store, because most of the town is taken up by touristy stuff.

Add more to the city if you like, it’s a free world. Wink

Here's my character:

Name: Heather Kimberly (nick name: Blue)

Gender: Girl

Nationality: Australia

Age: 15

Appearance: average high, long brown hair, small expressive eye brows and lips, large eyes, very thin, tan.

Characteristic:

Home: Good at school and with little kids, oldest out of seven children, does most of the work at home.

School: Sarcastic, rude to those below her in the pecking order, hangs out with only who she chooses, seems to like to tease

You’re free to make more than one character. This is free RP Laughing.

Blaire~

I feel my body flop onto my bed, not really caring that I still have my shoes on, and think about the day. Now that it's all over and I'm extremely tired, everything seems droopy and blahhh. I just want to fall..asleep. I'll...do...my...homework...later.....

I wake up to a bird chirping directly outside of my window. Sweek! The quick calls of this bird sound vaguely like a mouse. I snatch up my Field Guide to the Birds from it's place on my bookcase and slowly made my way to my windowseat. Once sitting, I observe it's whitish belly, and it's black and white wings. Then I hear it's pounding. Well, that makes it a lot easier tofind in the book. I go by the color-code, and flip to the woodpecker section. Hairy woodpecker, red-headed woodpecker, ah ha! I find that my suspect is indeed a woodpecker, a male downy woodpecker to be exact. I take a look at the description of the calls. It says that it uses the single shrill notes most of the time but during mating season, calls out with double sweeks. Ha! I wish I could hear it.

I take out my sketchbook and start drawing the pecker. I love bird watching. And drawing. It's always so nice, peaceful.

"Blaire, time for dinner!" My mother's voice blasts up the stairs. There goes my peace and philosophy.

Sorry. I've had exams and graduation for the past few days, so I've had almost no time to post...

Kate~

After delivering my message to Eli, I lay back on my bed and, to make myself feel better, started sketching. I liked to draw people, but I liked to draw plants and animals more. At the moment, I was drawing a small morning glory that mum had been trying desperately to save the past few months. Just as I was shading in a petal, there was a soft knock on my door.

"Go away!" I snapped. I guess everyone was right when they said Irish people had the worst temper. Right now, I felt strained and tired, and I didn't want company.

"Kate?" Mum's voice called softly. "Darling, let me come in please. We need to talk." I sighed and let it open a crack. "Unless you're coming in to scold me, then fine, you can come in." She sat down on my bed, and to my great displeasure, looked at my sketch book. "These are really good, darling. How did you get the book?" I stiffened. "Why should you bloody care? You hate when I draw anyway." She sighed and looked at me. "Kate, listen. I know this hasn't been easy for you. Leaving your friends back in Dublin and never being able to have the life a girl your age should have." I looked down at my bedspread. Though I never talked about it, I missed Dublin more that anything. I missed acting the maggot* with my best mates Fiona and Arleen. I missed stealing crisps from the local shop. I missed our cozy little flat we lived in until da lost his job and we were forced to live here. "But you have to understand sweetheart. We need you to keep going. We need every penny we can manage, so if we need you to look after the kids, thats what you need to do. You're helping us out like that more than possible." I kept staring at my bed.

"It's just not bloody fair!" I burst out. "Why do we get treated like rubbish when we work so hard and the people who don't do anything get all the credit?" Mum looked out my window. "I don't know Kate. I really don't. But if the world had your brains, we would be much better off." She looked straight a me. "Kate, we don't want you to run the shop someday for us. We want you to run it for you. So you can at least have a bit to get by with. Drawing doesn't give you anything." I bit my lip. "But it's all different now mum. I mean, look at Vahn Gogh and Monet. Their art goes for millions." She gave a sad smile. "It wasn't worth millions when they were alive, was it?" I couldn't argue with that. "And as for your friends, I'm really glad you're getting to know some kids your age. I was worried you'd have a hard time with the kids here." She had no idea. "And don't worry about father. He means well." I shrugged. "All right." She smiled and planted a kiss on my sheek. "I love you." I nodded and watched her bent, tired form walk out my door.

Time for something big... got any ideas?

Made we could put them into teams with things like Heather with Eli or...
I don’t know,

Or we could do the flood,

Or we could invent a reason for all the kids to be boarders!

Or if you don’t want flood, we could do fire,

Or get our characters all kid nap (Am I going a bit too far)

Or some mystery about the school

Or... I’m out of ideas

Holmes* is agreeing with Saz.  Holmes has a good big thing for to happen to Eli, but it makes more sense if it is winter.  If forced by sheer boredom of the R.P, Holmes will make sense of the big thing it has planned for Eli.  Please tell Holmes is it needs to inflict the big thing on Eli.  Note:  This bad thing mostly affects Eli, Kate and her crowd.  If you are looking for something to involve the other characters, Holmes am somewhat stumped about that.  Idea! (dingdingding!) Can this R.P have a little magic?

*Holmes has recently developed a bad habit of talking in the third person.

Excuse for not posting:

The visitation schedule says that I am supposed to be with my dad this week, and I haven't gotten in the habit of posting at his house.

Eli~

School has been entertaing, at the expense of the teachers.  In math our teacher is trying to teach us how to play chess, but it hasn't worked so far.  I think she might realize this when we move on to actually playing.  For some reason, Ms. Carmon is trying to teach the class about centrifigul force...like she does every year.  But, now we are all learning what "The Glare" looks like.  In conclusion: (something Mrs. Toevsky is trying to make us do) The teachers are making a fool of themselves.

I can't write a really long post right now but I think an excuse for everybody to become boarders is good. Oh I have an idea! If this is okay with everyone I'll post it. :D

Holmes seconds the motion!  Elizabeth, we demand you to post.  As there is a better idea than Holmes' floating around in the Chatterbox, Holmes will keep its idea in reserve for another time.  (Yeah!  100th post!)

Eli~

Kate played wallball again with us.  She actually is turning out pretty good.  Ethan accidentally threw the tennis ball on the roof today.  I had to climb up and retrieve it.  Those people should get their fire escapes replaced, they're as rusty as heck.  Thankfully, I managed to stay alive.  The fourth story looked especially rickety, with steps missing and rust corroding it into dust.  I hope I don't have to do that again any time soon.  That Harry Potter kid was walking around town again.  I headed towards a recycle bin when he came near and he crossed the street.  He seems to have learned his lesson.

I sort of forgot the last idea, but this is sort of what I was planning. If you don't like it, we can change it.

Watermelon-

It turns out that there aren’t any more girl rooms left so I get to sleep in a boy’s room with only a curtain dividing us. It’s not too bad though. I had to share rooms a lot at the research place in Antarctica.

*

I wake up and grab a towel and go to the showers. It’s funny that you can take such long showers here. Where we were, our water supply didn’t last long so we only had a certain amount of water we could use because no one was too keen on going out and getting more water.

How I miss Antarctica.

Ms. Cameron is showing us how to dissect a marshmallow (she seems to be scared of dead frogs) when the loud speaker at the back of the room turns on with a loud screech. We all hold our ears.

“Good Morning, students! Please come to the assembly room for a not scheduled assembly.”

Everyone in the classroom looks at each other. Kate, who is sitting next to me, seems most confused.

“What do you think this is about?” she whispers to no one in particular.

“Someone must have caused problems,” Eli whispers back.

I’m about to ask what sort of problems when Ms. Cameron yells at us to stand up and get moving.

“Good morning boys and girls.” The principal stands on a stage in front of all of the kids. “We have some…uh…news for you.”

The murmuring in the hall gets louder.

“SILENCE!” The principal fiddles with a button on her blouse. “I am sorry to say that those of you who stay at home with your family won’t be doing that anymore.”

“What?” someone yells. “THAT’S BLODDY OUTRAGEOUS!” Kate screams next to me.

“SILENCE!” I wonder if that woman practices yelling. “This is all for your own good…”

“BUT WHY?” another child wants to know.

“That’s not important. You’ll see them soon again.” And before the principal can be bombarded with questions, she leaves.

*

I go into my room. Sirius and a friend of his are nervously talking. I sit down next to Sirius.

“Are you guys talking about what happened today?” I interrupt them. The whole school is in an uproar.

“Yeah…” Sirius drums his fingers on his journal, which never seems to leave his hands. “Doesn’t it seem fishy to you? What if the teachers are up to something? What if they’re planning something and they’re using us? What if--“

“I think you read too much,” is my only reply.

“Reading is good for you,” Kale, his friend, pipes up.

“Whatever. Why do you think the teachers would use us for some test thing?”

“You never know… But it didn’t seem like they were going to tell us why we the day people have to stay here. If it was for a normal reason they would’ve told us.”

“Hm. And how are you planning to find anything out?”

“That’s what Kale and I were talking about.” Then he opens his journal and shows me a map of the school. “We’re going on a mission.”

Awesome idea!!

Kate~

"What do you mean she can't come home?" Da says angrily to the principal. He and Mum are sitting in a plush sofa, looking furious. "She's got two younger siblings and a shop to help look after! Besides, if we had the money to let her board, she wouldn't be making that bloody commute every day, would she?" The principal looks long and hard at her desk. "I'm sorry, Mr. and Mrs. O'Connor, but it is confidential information why all students must stay on campus." She looks at the clock. "Oh my, look at the time. I'm afraid you'll have to be going now. Thank you for bringing Kate's things. We'll be in touch. Good-bye." She quickly shoves us out the door and slams it behind us.

"This is an outrage!" Da says angrily. "We have a right to know!" Mum just closes her eyes. "Patrick, it is an outrage, but there's nothing we can do. I can get along fine with Brianna helping me." She looks over at me. "Kate darling, I promise you that we'll get to the bottom of this and get you home. For now, be good and don't cause trouble." I nod and hug her. "All right, Mum. You sure you'll do all right without me?" She nods. "Now get going. We'll see you soon." She and Da march out the door.

"Your room is by the boys' dorm," a teacher tells me. I grab my bag and head up to the room with the number on it. To my surprise and joy, Eli and Mela are waiting for me.

"Can you believe this?" Eli says, outraged. "I can't stay here with my dad at home! And Kate, what're we going to do about our games? We can't let the others know we can't show up!" I nod. "My mum's stressed out as it is. And Brianna can't do everything for her!" Mela fiddles with her bedspread. Hm.

"All right Mela. Spill it," I say, dropping my bag. She nervously looks up. "Well... I can't really, but... oh, I guess he can explain it. Sirius!"

To my suprise, the boy Eli absolutely loaths comes in. "What is it Me-" He sees us, and he looks horrified. "You!" Eli says, jumping up. "Get out of our room!"

"It's all right Eli," Mela says, looking suprised. "He's not evil or anything." The boy looks at us suspiciously. "What is it, Mela?" She looks nervous. "Can you tell them our plan? They have a right to know." He looks nervously at Eli. "It's all right," I say. "She's a bit... rough, but she won't hurt you. Right Eli?" She glares at him. "Yeah. Right." He takes one more look and takes a deep breath.

"Okay, so it started when the teacher didn't tell us why you're staying here..."

“What!” I shrieked.

“That’s just what they said, and we have to go with it. You
know why,” my mum said.

Most of the kids hate me. “I can’t mum, please,” I sobbed.

“Why not?”

“Um...how will they fit all of us?”

“They’re buying a heap of bunk beds,” my mum said. “You just
have to go, you’ve got no choice.”

I nodded glumly and went up to pack.

Upstairs and in my room, I sobbed and fell onto Jaffer, who
was busy washing herself. “Most of them hate me and I can’t blame them. I wish I
could leave that school.”

I pulled out my suitcase and packed clothes and important
stuff, before packing my special stuff like pictures and a diary. I knew I probably
shouldn’t take it but...I’d rather I could see it then leave it when seven
little siblings could get to it. I shoved it in my suitcase and began taking
picture after picture of the bedside table, looking quickly at each one. I
picked up a picture with a black frame and stared at it, before throwing it out
the window. I wouldn’t be able to throw anything out it for awhile.

~Brittany~

“We just moved in,” Matt muttered as we walked into the
school grounds.

Freya
wanted to stay here and she’s smart-” I started

“Whatever Brittany,” Matt sighed.

“It’s really not that bad.”

“See you later Brittany,” Matt turned and head towards the
year 11 dormitories.

“Bye,” I said and went towards my dormitory.

Men were moved bunk after bunk into the rooms and students
were everywhere, weaving through all the bunk beds.

I saw a girl, Eli, I think walking to room number 09. I
waved and walked past and up the stairs to room number 65. I stepped in and saw
about 20 or so girls putting their suit cases on their beds and looking at
them.

“That's your bed,” a girl called. “You have to keep all your
stuff on it because there’s nowhere else to put it.”

“Thank you,” I said gratefully, wondering how I was going to
get my suitcase up onto my bed.

A girl ran in to the room and looked around. Her eyes fell
on my and she waved me over.

I jumped down and ran over. “What is it?”

“I need to talk to you, but first promise you’ll help,” she
said.

“O...okay?”
