Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW STORY THREAD!

NEW STORY THREAD!

Okay, I know there's already a bunch in Inkwell right now, but I needed something new. The other ones are not moving or are too developed for me.

Here's my character: Nathaniel

Age: 13

Appearance: Normal looking by regualr standards, with plain brown hair and a gaunt look on his face.

Nathaniel was filled with a fiery rage. Why was it always HIM they decided was nothing special? He would show them! Nathaniel walked away from the building, not believing he had been rejected. It's not like EVERYONE can turn invisible! He filled out about fifteen applications, did one thousand pushups for them, and turn invisble. He couldn't believe they wouldn't let him into superhero school. Just because he couldn't fly.

Nathaniel didn't want to feel the rejection. He was not normal. He did not fit in with normal people. The truth that the people at Shane's Academy, also known as Superpoweed School, were telling him was that he didn't fit in with them either. He didn't fit in anywhere. He felt himslef unwittingly turn invisible and stalk down the road.

Don't feel afraid to use someone else's character or add something that doesn't really have anything to do with the plot!

This is actually Ruby, copying and pasting from an email message from Red. The message begins here:

Yay, Tovah's back! I guess Catherine already went to your world and came back to the Looking Glass Wars world (wait, does that mean the groups are at different times? Aahh!) and... well... I guess she just kind of popped in and said something along the lines of Hi, how's it going, anything interesting happened lately? I don't think she would have divulged any information and probably gave vague answers for questions before she ran off again. Yeah. I'll write my part tomorrow.

So, who's going to rescue Tovah? 1,2,3, not it!

Thus ends the message.

And the captcha says nkez. Are you a vampire, Captcha?

Okay... I'm going to write what was skimed over, about Catherine talking and all. So, the last few sentences where we left off.

Nathaniel, you're on.

It was Catherine.

"So, what's up?" she asked, very causally. "Anything intresting happen while we were in THE LOOKING GLASS WARS?"

"No, nothing at all," said Brooke raising an eyebrow, "Except, you know, John turns out to be this crazy telepath--"

"--and there's this thing call the fifteenth element--" Nathaniel broke in.

"--basicly all society is doomed--"

"--and, yeah, that's about it," Nathaniel finished.

"Oh. Okay..." Catherine's eyes were wide with suprise. "And this fifteenth element, what does it do?"

"Takes away your powers," said Brooke.

"Oh, c'mon. How can Phosphorus take away your powers?" she asked, trying to sound confindent, but her voice was sugarcoated with a layer of fear.

Nathaniel merely raised an eyebrow. "Do you think we know? Watch this." He paused for a moment, and squeezed his eyes shut, trying to concentrate on being invisible. Usually, it took him a mere though to become invible. Nothing happened. "Do you know how awful this is?" he asked Cathrine. "No, you don't."

"All I saw was you sqeezing your eyes shut and looking very much so in pain."

"I was TRYING to turn INVISIBLE!" Nathaniel glared at her.

"Yeah, right. Have you heard the term 'hyperbole,' Nathaniel?" she asked sarcasticly.

"He wasn't exaterated!" said Brooke, beyond disbelif. "Look at my hair." It was a dull, reddish color. "It was like this when John shot us with what we think was the fifteenth element. Wouldn't it have changed by now? First, I would be shocked to see you, later angry for you not beliving Nathaniel..." her sentance trailed off into the distance. "Look, Catherine," she finnally said. "Just look."

"I... I belive you," she whispered, half embarresed, half horrified at the prospect of the fifteenth element. She hesitated, as if to say more, but instead jumped into  THE LOOKING GLASS WARS. Catherine was gone.

"What are we going to do?" moaned Nathaniel. "Everything is hopeless."

"It may seem like that..." Brooke started off. She paused. "That's because everything is hopeless."

Nathaniel suddenly jumped up with a jolt. "Okay," he declared. "I don't care if everything's hopeless or not--"

"--you sure did a few minutes ago--" muttered Brooke.

"--but what about Elexhiia?! What has John done to her? If he hasn't used the fifteenth element on her, we should save her. Sure, we don't have our powers, but Elexhiia should have hers if it's possible."

Brooke raised her eyebrows, impressed with the dramatic change in outlooks. "Okay. Let's do this. Got any plans?"

"Maybe..." said Nathaniel, a slow grin crawling up his face.

So. There we go. Anywho, we need to define that John DOESN'T have the fifteenth element (because Storm does) and that he has a thing that merely takes away your powers for, I don't know, hours? Days? Months? He probably thinks it's the fifteenth element. Or maybe he doesn't, and he was pretending. Anyways, yay to reviving this thread!

I keep on forgetting to write here! I'm not entirely sure what I want to do here... This is entirely random, but I have Twiright Prank (I think it's supposed to be a pun) stuck in my head and Ru-kun's hummng Clockwork Lullaby and it's annoying me...

It's just like Storm to have the most dangerous object in the world that's being chased by a lunatic. Honestly. I don't even want to know how he got it.

"Well, what should we do now?" I asked.

"Continue on as usual. He can't jump into different worlds and unless he manages to find someone like you, then we're safe."

I feel like a tool. Not exactly a great feeling. Someone like you, huh?

"Anyway. I'm going to see Redd," Storm said, taking The Cat's leash away from me, "Come on, you furry assasin, take me to your leader."

The Cat snarled and started to pull the leash. Storm waved me to follow him and took off with The Cat. I trotted behind them, ignoring the people in the streets who laughed at the boy taking his pet kitty for a walk. Meeting Redd. She's not a person to mess with. Well, then, neither is Storm. And one of them doesn't hate all "spin-offs" of Alice in Wonderland. And one of them can't see the future of this world. Well. Maybe everything would be alright after all.

Then I noticed screaming people running towards us. Sounds like we were getting close. Then I saw her. A woman with red- and I don't mean that lesser orangey-red color- hair flying around her like a cloud. She wore a dark red dress, the color of blood. I had seen her on the cover of Seeing Redd, but there's a definite difference between seeing Redd and Seeing Redd.

Storm was walking right to her. There's more than one type of lunatic out there and I had a feeling that soon I would be caught up right in the middle of them.

Ah, that was terrible. I'm bad at writing! Oh well! Here, Ru-kun, you write the next bit. I want to see what you have to say to Redd.

No. None at all. With that happy thought, I'll try to have Nathaniel think of something breifly, if you don't mind.

Nathaniel, you're on.

"Maybe meaning you DO have a plan or you don't have a plan?" aked Brooke, ready for action.

"Maybe meaning I have a jumble of ideas that if we put them toghter we could either save the day or end up dead."

"Well that's comforting."

"Do you want to hear it?"

"Of course! Anything is worth trying at this point..."

Nathaniel grinned. "Okay, here's the plan." He picked up THE LOOKING GLASS WARS.

"What are you going to do with that?" asked Brooke suspciously.

"I'm going to read it," Nathaniel replied confidently.

"At a time like this?!"

"No, I'm not really going to read it. Well, not right now."

Brooke merely raised an eyebrow. "Lots of ideas you've got up there," she nodded to his head. "Like reading when we should be saving our friend!!!"

Nathaniel sighed. "Okay. Maybe my ideas are still jumbled toghter, then. Have you got any?"

"Yes. 1) get out of here. 2) save Elexhiia. 3) don't die. 4) Get away to someplace safe. 5) Destory the fifteenth element along the way."

"Have you got any idea of how to do all that?"

Brooke openned her mouth, and then closed it. "No."

Nathaniel surveyed the room. "It doesn't look like there's a way out," he said, "but if we got in there has to be a way for us to get out."

"So?"

Nathaniel tapped the front cover of THE LOOKING GLASS WARS. "Do you think Catherine left her book in a warehouse? It should be right where she left it--but someone moved it."

"Right," said Brooke. "And if someone moved it, they're either trying to help us or hurt us. Most likely help."

Nathaniel nodded. "Most likely."

"Well, thank you people, we'll use THE LOOKING GLASS WARS in the bext possible way--reading. Then we can die of thirst and starvation in this warehouse, thinking and dreaming about THE LOOKING GLASS WARS. Won't that be grand?" she finnished saracstily.

It hit him hard. The book mysteriously here... as if it was "implanted"... The dream he'd had where he was dead, or at least unconious, but his friends, John and Brooke, sure he was... left...

"I don't know. I'm very unsettled right now, things did not turn out they way they were suppose to."

"What was the way they were suppose to turn out?"

"The message I sent. You know, the one in their sleep. This wasn't suppose to happen. This is worse."

His strange dream before he awoke in the illusion... Could it be connected to his other one? Was... were his friends suppose to think he was dead?

"Nathaniel?" Brooke asked. "Are you okay? You look a little pale..."

"This wasn't suppose to happen," he said. "Giovanni was suppose to win against me. You and John were suppose to escape. We all helped, and we won. It wasn't suppose to happen, and now we're stuck here. It wasn't suppose to happen. What should've happened--this is worse."

That's fine! I'll try to write from here.

Brooke ~

I stared at Nathanel, figuring he had finally cracked. "OOKKKAYYY. The stress had done it! You cracked!" I said. What good saying this would do? I didn't know. But I had a fear he hadn't. In a way, I was scared of what he was saying. In a way, I kinda wished he had gone crazy (no offense).

"I'm not crazy," Nathaniel said, his voice scarily calm. "None of this was supposed to happen. I'm supposed to be dead." Now he was seriously freaking me out. "What are you talking about?!" I shouted at him, jumping to my feet from where I was kneeling. "You're alive! We beat Giovanni! I certainly couldn't have escape if it weren't for you! If you had died, I'd probably be dead! The world is safe, at least from Giovanni thanks to you! And how would I beat John without you? You can't be dead! Don't say that!" I realized I had tears in my eyes. Nathaniel was the first, and only friend I'd ever really had. After everything we'd been through...

"We're going to figure this out," I said. Nathaniel still had that pale look on his face. He was holding something back. I needed to know what.

"Nathaniel, what do you mean, 'this wasn't supposed to happen?'"

So, most of this is just Brooke yelling at Nathaniel, but, I'm hoping it'll lead somewhere... Sorry!

Nathaniel, you're on.

Nathaniel squeezed his eyes shut. "What do I know?" he said. "Maybe I'm just confused. Maybe--"

"Maybe you know exactly what's happening and you don't want to admit it."

"Maybe."

"Are you going to tell me?"

Nathaniel open his eyes. "Maybe. Well, yes. I had this strange dream. There were these two people talking. They said this was worse. This wasn't suppose to happen. One of them said they'd sent a message in our sleep."

Brooke stared. "I think I know what dream," she said. "But, but you had it too?! I thought it was only a silly dream! I couldn't make sense of it..."

"It was suppose to happen. Whoever they are, that was a message of what would happen. I was suppose--"

"I don't care if you were suppose to die! Even if you did, did you think we would leave you there, and just go?"

Brooke looked at him, angry, but yet fear was evident in her face. He was scared, too. More scared than he had ever been in his life. He didn't understand it, but it seemed like everything that had happened to him recently, none of it mattered. None of it scared him to the bone like right now did. The unsettling feeling that whatever they did, it would lead to something worse.

"No," he whispered. "I didn't."

"So whoever those people are, they're wrong! They don't know if this is worse! Maybe everything's all dandy."

"They knew I was watching them. They said I was normal."

"So what? Nathaniel, if you're a normal person, you're the most irrugelar normal person ever! You're the best normal person ever! Those people--they don't know anything!"

Nathaniel smiled. "Right. They don't know anything."

"Do you have a plan?"

"Yep. We're throwing the book out the window."

"What window?!"

"That window," Nathaniel pointed, his eyes closed, and where there had once been a wall, there now was a window.

Nathaniel opened one eye. "Was I right?"

Brooke turned to him, dazed. "Okay, what's going on?"

"I still have no idea. Or a idea. Let's just say the walls of this warehouse are an illusion."

"Then why would we need to throw to book out the window to make an exit?!" exclaimed Brooke. "We can just find the," she spun around at the other wall, "door!"

It was a tall door, reaching to the top of the warehouse, which was quite tall. It was make of a smooth oak wood, and the little silver handle seemed to say "You're almost out! Just turn me!"

"Let's go!" said Nathaniel.

"Wait," Brooke said, as if she had suddenly realized something. "This is too easy. What's on the other side of that door?"

(June 29, 2013 - 12:11 pm)

See, I'm glad you wrote that piece! I wouldn't have thought to make the whole warehouse an illusion! Brooke, you're up!

Brooke ~

I stared at the door, pleased but also scared. "Wait, that is too easy. What's on the other side of that door?" Nathaniel sighed, and looked at me.

"On the count of three," he said. We stood by the door, holding The Looking Glass Wars, still open. "One.." "THREE!" I shouted, hating having to wait. We flung the door open, and tumbled outside. The door had been at least three or four feet off the ground. Everything outside was eerily silent. A greenish glow hung around everything. Like what you see before a storm. We pushed ourselves up, glancing around.

"What's going on?" I asked Nathaniel. He just shook his head. Something was happening. "Where do we go now?" I asked. Nathaniel contemplated the question. He glanced around. This storm seems to have a head. I followed his look, and paled. "You think John is back at Shane's, don't you?" He nodded. We took off toward Shane's, praying that we wouldn't find what we feared.

Sorry, its short, but I have to go!

(June 29, 2013 - 6:08 pm)

Hmm. What DO they fear?

Nathaniel, you're on.

Nathaniel and Brooke ran.

It had started to rain, which just made everything easier for them. They were on an old side of town, Nathaniel noticed. The side of town your parents tell you to avoid.

Naturally where John would put them.

But they were still in the city. They knew their way around... enough. They crossed first street, and suddenly the dim fog over Nathaniel's navagational map in his head cleared. "We're close now," he said.

They ran faster.

"Here!" cried Brooke, and they both turned a sharp turn to the corner to the street Shane's was located on. They ran down the street and....

....stopped. Shane's was blocked off with yellow police tape. "POLICE LINE--DO NOT CROSS," it read. It gave Nathaniel a headache. How could they have gotten this far and have to give up now?

Ah, so you seem to have gotten past my little illusion.... John spoke in Nathaniel's mind.

Nathaniel gritted his teeth. "John," Brooke growled. "You hear him too?" he asked. She simply nodded.

Now, are you law breakers or not? I have caused a scene of crime, here, making the police have to lay down some tape. Of course, that's as far as they got before I got to them. I'm actually using it to my benefit.

Why did you do this? Nathaniel asked. Why? Do you have any reason?

Nathaniel could see him smirking, wherever he was. I have reasons. Lots of them. But let me make this simple. I've got your friend--

Elexhiia! thought Nathaniel, and he could tell Brooke was thinking the same.

--yes, Elexhiia. Anyways, she's not doing very well. She really needs your help. So you can come in and save her, maybe break the law... Or you can be law-abiding and let her die.

Nathaniel looked down at THE LOOKING GLASS WARS in his hand. For some reason, he felt as though it might cause trouble. Don't be silly, he told himself. It's just a book. Yet, he couldn't displace the sense of unease he felt about the book all of a sudden. Like it was a trap.

"Well?" he asked Brooke.

"Well what?"

"Are we going in?"

submitted by Theo W.
(June 30, 2013 - 3:19 pm)

Hmm. I'm not sure. Maybe we would be afraid John was in ultimate control (almost) and Elexhiia dead (again, almost).

Brooke ~

I wanted to say "Yes, absolutely!" But my one, deep fear made me hesitate. If the law catches you at all, it's off to a foster home. If you break the law?! Juvenille prison possibly. And after that? Where would that leave you? NOWHERE! The only future you've got is if you stay on the run. Make your own way! Part of me wanted to bolt, then and there. Run, as far away as possible. But I couldn't leave Elexhiia, and I couldn't leave Nathaniel.

"We go in," I answered. I glanced at the book in Nathaniel's hands. "Bring that too, I guess. I don't know what it'll do, but..."

"So we go around the back or side, whichever is less populated, and try and sneak in?" Nathaniel asked. I nodded. I couldn't come up with a better idea. We slipped around the side of the building, looking for a break, or some sort of opening. Searching for a way in, hmm? John spoke in my mind. I wanted to literally beat my head against a wall whenever he did that, but I figured it wouldn't do any good.

We ducked behind a bush as a policeman walked by, patrolling the perimeter. I felt my breathing speed up when he was walking passed. Slowly, we crept from our hiding places. Oh, is that what you're afraid of? John asked in a sly sort of way. GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I mentally hollered back. I think it hushed him up, at least for now, 'cause he didn't reply.

We came to a side door, just below the window where I'd first gotten Nathaniel's attention as a humming bird. We watched, hidden, as guards patrolled. We soon picked up that there was about a ten second break between guards passing corners. We knew this would be our only chance.

"One, two, three!" Nathaniel said, and we bolted to the door, throwing it open, and ducking inside, allowing it to silently slip shut just as the next guard rounded the corner.

We had entered into a long hallway, lined with lockers. We stood still, holding our breaths. Nothing. No one came running toward us, no shouting, nothing. "This way," Nathaniel whispered, and we headed toward the Principal's office, knowing if John was anywhere, that's where he'd be, and Elexhiia as well.

"This is too easy," I said nervously. "John can make complete mental illusions. He wouldn't have let us just slip in the door, then have the halls completely empty. He's planning something." Nathaniel nodded, but didn't reply. We kept running. The closer we got, the more nervous and almost claustraphobic I became. Without my or Nathaniel's powers, there was little chance of escape.

We came to the hall where the Principal's office was and came to a halt.

Okay, sorry I haven't replied.... I keep meaning to.....

Nathaniel, you're on~

"This is too easy," Brooke said nevrously. "John can make complete mental illusions. He wouldn't have let us just slip in the door, then have the halls completly empty. He's planning something."

Nathaniel nodded, but said nothing. What was there to say? "Yes, we're walking right into a trap and there's nothing we can do about it, and it's almost impossible to escape. Isn't this grand?"

They walked down the hall, their pace tinged with their anxious feelings.

They turned the corner to the hall of the principal's office, and came to a hault.

"John," Nathaniel said through gritted teeth.

"Are you the real John this time?" Brooke said. "Becase if you're not, we're not going to bother with you."

"Oh, I'm real all right," John grinned. "Just ask Elexhiia."

Elexhiia was suspended in an illusion of a jail cell right behind John.

"There's only one way you can save her," John said. "Give me the fifteen element and I'll let you guys and Elexhiia go."

"I thought you had the fifteenth element...?"

"Oh no," John said. "You two have been carring it around all along. It's in there," he ginned, and he pointed at THE LOOKING GLASS WARS.

Nathaniel and Brooke looked at each other. There has to be something we can do, thought Nathaniel dejectdly.

But there isn't, John thought in his mind. There isn't.
