Chatterbox: Inkwell

Time Travel RP!

Time Travel RP!

So this is Part 2 of our "I was thinking..." thread (http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/108646) . True and I have been keeping it up for an entire year (yes, we litterally made the final post exactly one year later!). We've loved doing, and have decided to make a Part 2! This is for new people who want to join!

The idea is that you make a character that is related to someone famous in history, but that person can't be an actor, actress, singer, etc. For example, here's my character:

Dehlia Ludington.

Related to a heroine of the American Revolution: Sybil Ludington.

Lives in Fredericksburg NY, 1777

Suddenly transported to the 21st century.

Age: 14

Short length blonde hair, blue-gray eyes, exactly 5 feet, rather pale.

Personality: Quiet most of the time, yet speaks out passionately when its something she cares about, strong, dependable, loving.

And here's True's (I hope you don't mind my putting you character as an example):

Name: Doralynn Barton

Age: 12

Related to: Clara Barton

Lives: Maryland, at her Aunt Clara's house

Appearence: Curly Black hair, light skin. Is short. About 5'

Personality: Is kind to all animals. Is a nurse to animals. A tomboy.

The story line so far is that we just saved the world in the future thanks to "time tears". They're a liquid substance that allows time traveling. Well, we've all returned to our respective times. But we discovered the original way we showed up was we each had a time-tear-infused object. For Dehlia, it was a book. For Dora, it was a handkerchief. The characters still have these items, and we were thinking of starting another adventure! So this is open for anyone else to join!

Oh never! I love this thread far too much!

Dehlia ~

After several minutes of silent contemplation, we all came to a unanimous decision.

"We need to get off this ship," I said firmly. The others nodded in agreement.

"Tonight," Dora said, glancing around.

"How?" Zoe asked.

I smiled. "How are ya'll at swimming?"

***

"That water looks dark," Diana said.

"And cold," added Zoe.

We were hidden behind an assortment of crates and barrels. A few sailors were on deck, but none were paying much attention on keeping watch. The moon thankfully was hidden behind a set of clouds.

I nodded in agreement with Diana and Zoe, feeling slightly queasy. During the day, the shore hadn't seemed that far. But now...

"We'll be fine," Dora said.

I glanced around to ensure no one was looking our way. Cautiously, I rose up slightly, lowering a rope over the edge. The closer we were to the water, the quieter our splashes would be.

"Okay, one at a time," I whispered, still looking around.

"I'll go first," Dora offered, swinging one leg over the side, and gripping the rope tight. I had to admire the girl's guts. We had tied the rope to the railing, though I held onto it just to be sure. Silently, she slipped over the edge. After several long seconds, I heard a gentle splash.

"Zoe, you next," I whispered, helping her over the edge. Half a minute later, her splash signaled to Diana for her turn. Finally, all three were in the water. I shimmied over the edge, listening to the water below. I quickly slid down, praying no one would find the rope and think to look for runaways. The rope stopped about four feet above the water. Taking a deep breath, I released.

The water was cold, colder than I had thought it would be. It sent a quick shock wave through my body, and made me want to gasp, though I managed to hold my breath. I kicked hard, breaking the surface. I could just make out the others' silhouettes, even though they were only a few feet away.

"Come on," I called, and started paddling toward the shore.

~Dora~

The night was cold and dark. For a November day, I figured that we were pretty lucky, but couldn't the Pilgrims have come in July or something?

The water was freezing cold. I was never a good swimmer, but from the moment I hit the water, I could barely keep afloat. Finally, Dehlia came in with a small splash! She looked around briefly, then motioned to shore. "Come on," she whispered.

I tried to keep up, but my swimming abilities made that hard. I could tell that Zoe was right in front of me, and that  Diana was somewhere to me right, but Dehlia hard totally disappeared from sight. I could only follow Zoe and hope that her sight was better than mine.

Soon, I heard Dehlia's low voice call out, "Rocks ahead. Be careful. I think we're almost there!"

Sure enough, I could just feel a few big, sharp rocks to my left, then more and more. Our pace slowed down quite a lot, but never stopped. We kept on, and on, and on in the cold, cold water.

I tried to keep up, but even at eh slower pace, it was just too much. Try as I might, I could feel myself slipping. At last, I just stopped, grabbed hold of a rock, and floated there.

But that was no more comfort than swimming. The cold bit at my legs, and my teeth were chattering a mile a minute. Soon, I just had to go on. Prying myself off of the rock, I started at it again.

But I had made one mistake. As I rested, the others had went on. Now I had completely lost sight of Diana, Zoe, and Dehlia.

"Dehlia?" I whispered. "Zoe?" There was no answer.

"Diana?" I called out, a little louder. But there was no other sound except for the splash of the water. I stayed very still for a few minutes. But I couldn't figure out where they had all gone.

Finally, I decided to go on, anyhow. Slowly, laboriously, I made my way to shore. The water made my legs almost numb, but I made myself keep on.

After a few more agonizing minutes, I could feel the ground again. I wasn't out of the water yet, but I could fairly felt as if I was. Little by little, I rose out of the water (or it got lower), until I was on shore, cold but safe.

I looked around, but it was so dark, I couldn't see farther than ten feet away. I started to walk to my right, where they might have come out. I listened as hard as I could, but could only hear the soft ripple of the waves and the wind blowing.

I walked for a few yards, then stopped and stood still. I was about to call out when to my left, I heard splashing. Then footsteps on land, followed by even more splashing, like two other people on the water.

"We made it," Diana's voice held evident relief.

"I'm cold!" Zoe gasped out, shaking her arms. Even from the distance I stood, I could hear the chattering of teeth.

"We're all cold," Dehlia said. "But I don't know if we can or should build a fire. what do you think?"

"I don't know . . . they might see us," Diana said, but it was evident that she was freezing.

"We c-can go off a-aways," chattered Zoe, "And f-fire keeps a-animals away. W-what d-do you think, D-dora?"

I didn't say anything, for a cold breeze cam up on my, taking my breath away.

"Dora?" Diana asked. No reply.

"Dora?" Dehlia's voice had an edge of panic. "Where are you?"

I stepped closer to them. "Here. I got separated once we got to the rocks. I managed to get to shore, though."

Zoe groped in the dark. "So we're all here?" she asked. "Four of us?"

A bump from behind us caused me to spin around. Then a moan.

Zoe let out a little shriek. My heart raced. What was there?

I was thinking about Moss's character. We can pull her in if you want (Moss, if you are reading this, please post) or we can put someone else in here. An Indian, a clue how to get out, or we can add someone else into this mess. What do you guys think?

~Autumn

When she opened her eyes, she found herself floating in the ocean. Alarmed, she looked around for land. Luckily, in the distance, she spotted land. Still in a hazed state of mind, she slowly swam towards it.

Then Autumn remembered. The man chasing her. When he got scared of the fire-box. Then it started to glow and she was on the Mayflower, which wasn't supposed to set sail for another few years for her. But how did she get in the ocean? Oh, yes, she remembered some girls faintly that she was about to follow. They looked like they knew what was going on. When Autumn was about to follow them, she had slipped from the edge of the deck and fell into the water. She must of passed out. A long time ago too, it seemed because it was now morning. There was no sign of the girls. Autumn sighed. She'd have to go find them herself to see what was going on.

Instinctively, she checked if she still had the fire-box. She did. Autumn knew she'd need it for some reason in the back of her mind. Shaking her head clear of any distracting thoughts, she swam towards land faster than she had in her life.

Moss, yay, you're back! I love what you wrote, that's perfect.

Dehlia ~

Swimming in this frigid November water was probably the hardest thing I have ever done. My clothes weighted me down, making it difficult to keep my head above water. At times, I could hardly hear the others swimming nearby. Finally, after what seemed hours of swimming, we managed to hall ourselves out of the water, and onto the beach. My muscles ached, and my whole body was shaking uncontrollably. I was freezing, though I could feel my body slowly going numb. I knew that was a bad sign. The cold, night air wasn't helping either. If we stayed like this for too long, we would develop frostbite and fall ill. That was the last thing we needed. There was talk of building a fire.

"What do you think, Dora?" Zoe asked through chattering teeth. No answer came.

"Dora?" Diana asked a little louder. Again, nothing.

"Dora?" I asked, starting to become very worried. What if she hadn't made it onto the beach with us? "Where are you?"

"Here," came her soft, and tired reply. "I got separated once we got to the rocks. I managed to get to shore, though."

I breathed a sigh of relief.

"So we're all here?" she asked. "Four of us?" Zoe asked.

Just then there was bump and moan from behind us. Zoe shrieked, while the rest of us remained stalk still. If this was an Indian, or someone else from the ship, we'd have no way to defend ourselves, and nowhere to run. A tiny spark flashed through the night, causing us all to jump. Then it sparked again, and again, till suddenly a steady flame appeared just a few feet away. It was small, but enough to illuminate the face of a young girl. She had long, flowing, dark brown hair, and pale complexion. She was soaked and shivering, her eyes wide.

I glance at the others, then back at the girl. I carefully step forward.

"I'm Dehlia. This is Dora, Zoe, and Diana," I say, gesturing at each in turn.

"I'm Autumn," the girl said through chattering teeth. "I have no idea how I got here, just that one minute someone was yelling witch because of this, thing," she said, holding forward the strange flame. "The next I was on that ship. I saw you all, and though maybe you would know what was going on, so I followed you. But I slipped off the deck, and somehow managed to swim to land."

I nodded.

"Yes, we're from other times too, though we're not sure how we got here, or how to return," Dora said, stepping in. She hugged her arms to herself, trying to keep warm. I could hear everyone's teeth chattering, worse than before.

"We need to get warm, above anything else," I said, glancing around.

"The woods," Diana said, looking toward them. "It's our best bet."

All right, I guess I'll post. By the way, Tovah, what is Zoe's time traveller object?

~Dora~

Autumn had brought one good thing with her, at the very least. Besides a new comrade, and growth in numbers, we had an item that could produce fire at the flick of a switch.

But we all knew that we couldn't risk being seen by anyone, not just yet. Fire would only make trouble, as cold and haggard as we were.

"The woods. It's our best bet," Diana said, glancing up.

I nodded. Zoe gripped my hand tightly, shivering.

"Let's go," Dehlia said, softly. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm freezing."

We hurried to the dark, dark woods. Autums kept clicking the fire maker on and off as we went, which helped with teh dark only a little.

I made a swift glance around the place. There were many trees, but many of them had los ttheir leaves. Lost their leaves . . .

"There's a wall of trees we can use," Autumn said, pointing her device at it. Not only were five large evergreens standing high all in a row, but I could dimly make out a large rock next to them. Perfect.
"We can also use the leaves to keep us warm, a little," I added, shivering.

Dehlia nodded. "Let's hurry. We'll catch a fever if we don't."

~Autumn

Before she knew it, she had passed out as soon as they sat down. Autumn hadn't realized how tired she was. She dreamt of her family back home in Paris and missed it terribly. She missed her great-grandfather's mystery and how she had always drawn him in fantasies. Autumn wished he was with her and he could explain to her why everyone thought he was dead. Why it appeared he was dead.

Suddenly, she was in back in the restaurant. But the big surprise was that there was an man that looked like he was in his 50s that just standing in front of the door. Oddly enough, no one seemed to notice but her.

"Who are you?" Autumn asked.

He smiled kindly at her. "I think you know you I am."

She gulped. She did. "Great-grandfather, how can you be here?"

"Well, this is a dream," her great-grandfather said. "Doesn't mean it's real, does it?"

Autumn nodded. "How was I on the Mayflower? That wasn't supposed to set sail for a few more years."

"Autumn my dear, think of time this way: it can be elapsed. You were already on the Mayflower your whole life, all though it didn't appear that way. Think of it as a flame. The Mayflower wasn't flickered on yet for you, but for the passengers it had. The only flame that was flickering for you for awhile was Paris, France in the 1600s."

This immediately confused her. "What do you mean? You're not making sense."

Nicholas Flamel smiled once more. "Oh, you'll get it eventually Autumn. You'll get it eventually."

Then her dream faded away and she was being shaken awake.

"You passed out. Must be the cold," Dehlia said. "You all right?"

"Yeah... I think so," I said, remembering my dream the best I could. It probably meant nothing. Or maybe it did... oh had that dream messed with my head.

"All right then," Dora said. "I'll keep watch for any Indians. You still really need sleep, I can tell." She flashed a smile. "We'll find a way out, don't you worry. But in the mean time, we can at least have fun with it."

"I like your thinking," Zoe said. "Well, good night all!"

"'Night!" we all said, though this time I couldn't get to sleep with the dream still in my mind.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

So the idea for her great-grandfather Nicholas Flamel is that time can be elapsed and such and that's why he's in her dream. He never really died, he just figured out how to elapse time. What do you peeps think? I don't want to make it too fantasyish...
