Robots vs. Humans

Robots vs. Humans Sci-Fi RP

*Note* I tried to post this before and I am not sure if it went through. So if this is a duplicate (or almost), sorry... and post on this one instead.

Here's a new RP idea from me! Hopefully this one is going to survive... with more than 2 posts... Frown all my RPs die...

Anyhow, my idea is that both robots and humans are considered citizens (on earth). Robots want to be more human, and humans want to be more robot. Like, robots like how humans have more in-depth emotions and are in general are more accepted, and humans admire robots' strength and ability to live forever (mostly). However, is each side okay with kind of merging with the other? Will a cyborg class emerge, different from both robots and humans? Or will robots'/humans' unwillingness to cede their powers to the other side lead to war? *dramatic voice* You will decide!

And... yeah! Make your characters! Um, but one request--no cyborg characters yet please, because we don't know if cyborgs will become part of the story. Please just make either robot or human characters, and then you can make them cyborg later. And you can have both a robot and a human character, or two of one side, or... basically any combo you want.

Name: Kija Arken

Age: 13

Robot/Human?: Human

Appearance: Brown hair, tan skin, dark brown Asian-looking eyes. Wears jeans and a hoodie. Usually holding her tabcomputer or it's in her pocket. Has a habit of twirling her tabcomputer stylus in her fingers, tucking it behind her ear, tapping it on the table when she's thinking.

Personality: LOVES RESEARCH. Loves to learn. Is keeping close track of the robot vs. human debate, realizes the advantages of both sides, not partisan (in the debate)

_____________________________________________________

Name: I-51 (Ishi)

Age: Has been in service 15 years, teenage-looking, but she's not a companion robot, she's a librarian, so she knows more than a 15-year-old human or companion robot *Note* Companion robots "grow" in maturity and knowledge along with a certain person.

Robot/Human?: Robot

Appearance: Silver plating, feminine appearance (doesn't look like one of those faceless robots who are referred to as it, not he or she), has hologram projector in palm so can display information, wheels in feet so moves very fast.

Personality: Works in the library. Often meets Kija, often talks to her about the robot vs. human debate. Personally believes that becoming cyborg should be a choice everyone is free to make (not partisan)

Kija~

Kija walked down the street, twirling her stylus in her hand as she headed for the library. It was a pleasant, balmy summer day. Clouds scudded in the sky, and a breeze whipped Kija's brown hair around. She pulled up her hood as she kept walking.

On the street corner, a rusty robot held out a hat. "Please donate money to help old robots get new parts so they can continue to live their lives! Every stel helps!" Kija walked over and dropped a few steel coins -- stels -- into his hat. "Thank you very much," the robot nodded to her. "Have a wonderful day." Kija nodded back and continued on her way.

As she walked, she watched the people and robots making their way around the town. In this area, most people were walking, enjoying the day. Both robots and humans patronized shops selling everything from specialty metal-polishing cloths to spare hologram projector parts.

Kija arrived at the library and pushed open the doors. A blast of air-conditioning greeted her as she walked to her usual seat, a stool at a counter near the shelf of tablets written in binary. Since most robots and most people knew binary, that shelf had a steady stream of people going by. Kija enjoyed people (and robot) watching, but for now she took her tabcomputer from her pocket and began clicking around with her stylus, looking to see if she could read a copy of that morning's news. She wondered if Ishi would come by that day to chat. Yesterday they had had a very interesting conversation about whether material prejudice (metal vs. flesh) could be avoided. Kija would like to talk  to Ishi about it more.

(BTW, I was Cyborgs rock)

I slammed open the door, and it clanged against the wall of the library. The robotic librarian looked shocked.

"The door was locked! How-"

I showed her my powerful cybernetic arm.

"You have to run. I-"

Suddenly a crash resounded a block away.

Plot check:

So, the plot is that robots want to be like humans and humans want to be like robots. However, each side is kind of jealous/resentful/not accepting towards the other side and so they both want to not let the other side take on their powers. *whew, that was some messed up pronouns. hopefully not too confusing!*

Meanwhile, a secret group of scientists have created cyborgs, mostly people/robots who don't have a choice -- if they don't want to be cyborg, they'll die, etc.

The humans and the robots, both angry at the other side for not allowing them to become more like the other side, go to war. This might go on for a while, breaking up friendships between the robots and the humans.

*this is the really iffy part. any suggestions?* The war threatens to ruin the world. Maybe some humans/robots discover the secret cyborgs, and realize that it is okay and helpful to have humans that are part robot and robots that are part human. Maybe some of them become cyborgs secretly, to prove the point. Maybe they persuade the cyborgs to unveil themselves. Somehow, anyway, the cyborgs unveil themselves, showing everyone that it is okay to be both robot and human.

And then everything is okay! Smile

So, any suggestions about the middle part? I am going for the idea that some humans/robots discover the cyborgs and then join them and all together they make peace, but if anyone has any better ideas... go for it!

Sorry about the OCD, I want to get all the plot stuff done now so that then we can write away and not get into any confusion/fights about the plot. So if you've got a problem, please tell us now!

I would also like to encourage everyone to take the plot kind of slowly, since... it's a complicated storyline and I think it will be better if we all take some time to develop everything. Kapesh? Smile

Name: Jesse Quin

Age: 16

robot/human: human

appearance: Shortish brown hair, brown eyes, small nose. Short. Wears a blue shirt with jean shorts.

personality: Hot-headed, bossy, kinda geeky, loves her phone like any teen. Sometimes friendly, protective, a lyer. Very stubborn and always manages to get her way. Useally.

Lives in a sciency and rich family that Jesse has always hated. Especallly now, as they are going to do something real mean... and "for the good of science"...

Jesse~

I ride in the car, watching the robots and shops go by. I nervously look at the clock on my phone.

"We are late," I announce.

"Don't worry, honey. You can be late for the party a little bit," my father replies, slightly nervous. Both of my parents are nervous. I wonder why.

I check my phone again, watching our car progress on my map. I gasp in surprise, seeing that we are not driving toward my friend's house. We are going... To my father's work place? His geek lab?

"Father? Why aren't you going to my friend's house?" I ask, frowning and bitting my lip. my father looks at me and sighs.

"We are not going to your friend's house." I grip the sides of the chair nervously. What's... Happening?

The car finally reaches it's destination... but not mine. My dad forces me out of the car, while I try to squirm out of his grip. My mom looks at us, frowning and helping my dad push me into the lab.

I have been here before, but this time, they expect me. Extremely. I chair has been set up for me, but nothing comfortable. I know what they are going to do. And I'm ready.

I have seen this process go on. This lab has been making cyborgs secertly for years. And now I'm in the middle of it.

i have always hated my parents, but not this much.

"You are ready?" The scientist asks, not expecting much of a answer.

"Always." I wince, ready for the pain.

**************

I gasp for breath, realizing I'm back at home. I feel the bed covers, and climb out of my bed. I wince slightly, knowing my whole body feels weird. I don't want to look in the mirror. I don't... Oh my gosh.

I feel my arm, looking at its shiny edges. My eyes are metallic gray. not real. I'm not real. My leg, my left arm, part of my face. Good lord. What is happening?

|||||||||||||||||||||||

So, now Jesse has a robot left arm, and robot right leg. And a little bit part of her face is robot as well.

Kija~

Finally, she and Ishi were ready for the convention. They'd set up their folding chairs close to the stage, near the side so they'd have a good view of all the speakers. Kija was munching on a bag of popcorn, which was her lunch. It tasted delicious and buttery and got her into just the right mood for the show. Ishi was reading something on her tabcomputer. Kija looked around, people-watching.

A few other people and robots had also set up chairs. Right in front of the stage, two robots had spread out a picnic blanket and were chatting cheerfully. Near the back sat a sullen-looking man wearing a black suit. He was sitting on a high director's chair that was painted all black, as though he thought he was in charge of this thing. Why did he even come? wondered Kija, observing how displeased he looked. This event is for people who want to promote justice in our society. Why come if you don't care? Go be prejudiced in your own house! Kija felt her cheeks begin to grow hot with anger.

"Um, Kija?" Ishi broke into Kija's thoughts. "Look, I think Dr. Brian is here!"

Kija turned around to face the stage. A young man with neat brown hair and wearing a pressed shirt and khaki trousers had stepped onstage. His hands were behind his back, but Kija could see a faint glow of a tabcomputer -- probably he was holding his to keep his notes close at hand.

"Good afternoon, all," he greeted them. His voice had a slightly... monotone sound to it. "My name is Dr. Brian, or as some of you might know me, B-48."

He was a robot! Kija could barely believe it. Then he brought out the mike he held in one hand and placed the other on the lectern. His hands were shiny gold-plated metal! His face must have gotten skin grafts--that was why he looked more human--but those hands meant he was definitely robot.

Jesse~

I open my door, looking around. It was the afternoon, and my parents were already eating. I frowned at them, my metallic eyes moving around.

"Honey, we are going to go for a convention," my father says, his voice firm and harsh. I threw curse words at him in my head.

"You don't have to eat, Jess." My mother sighs.  She pushes her plate in front of her and gets up.

"We should go. It starts in 20 minutes," Father says, getting up himself. I bite my lip and shove my arms into my sweater pockets.

As we reach our destination, I wonder why we are doing this. I know it has to do with the debate, but are they really going to show a cyborg? As I nervously get out of the car, I see that the convention is pretty much starting. My dad rushes me to the back of the stage.

"Ah, you're here!" someone says. I turn around. The voice comes from a old man, who's eyes twinkle slightly.

"You are going on stage in a few minutes. Be patient. There is no script... At least for you." He gives me one last glance, and carries on with whatever he is doing.

After a while, I was called on stage. I bit my lip, and walk onto the stage.

A few gasps escape from the audience as look around. The man- or robot? - smiles at me, and pulls me forward.

"This, my friends, is a cyborg. Her family was so kind enough to lend her to us." I frown at the word "lend". He jerks my left arm up.

"Her arm is robotic, and has the same uses as any robot arm." I see the robots in the audience shake their head and tense up.

"But she still has human emotions, feelings, and other human things." He looks at me, chuckles, and continues.

"She will be very useful, as her robotic features allow her to live for a long time, and she doesn't even have to eat! Let's test her out." I yank my arm away.

"No," I snarl, backing away.

"Now now, child, there is nothing to be afraid of. I'm just going to do something to your ar-" I kick him with my right leg, and jump off the stage.

Ishi~

Ishi watched the fight onstage with a gaping mouth. Glancing beside her at Kija, she could tell her human friend was having the same reaction. What... what is a cyborg? Is she a robot?

The man in black in the back stood. All eyes turned from the stage to him as he shouted, "Humans! Listen to them! These two are just robots, trying to be humans whom they can never be! They are robots! They have no feelings, no real thoughts. We, humans, have allowed to rise to this level! We have made them citizens, let them work, let them live among us. They deserve none of this! We give them rights, they want to be human? Cast them out! They deserve nothing! Look at these! He is pretending to be a human! Skin grafts don't solve everything, old man! YOU--ARE--STILL--A--ROBOT! You will never be anything more! Girl! You fight him when he says you are robotic! You want to be human?" The man laughed, an evil laugh like he thought he ruled the world. "You robots are NOTHING!"

The crowd were all on their feet now. Some robots had left, slammed open the door. The two robots--cyborgs? humans?-- who had been onstage were gone, probably escaped backstage. Some of the humans looked around doubtfully, as though they half-believed the man in black. Kija was watching him, paying attention to him.

"Kija?" Ishi pulled her friend around. "Don't listen to him. He's shouting lies. KIJA! You can't believe him?"

Kija hesitated for a split-second. "No... no. I am your friend. I don't believe him. I don't." She shook her head, either contradicting what she'd just assured Ishi or just trying to shake the man's voice out of her head. Ishi wasn't sure... how could she tell?

"Come on. Let's go." Ishi pulled KIja out the door of the center. Behind them, Ishi could see a mob -- all humans -- circling the man in black. How could they be listening to him? They must be  joking. But when she and Kija were outside the building, she could hear the mob inside, chanting.

"Robots deserve NOTHING! We have given them EVERYTHING! We owe them NOTHING MORE!"

Ishi turned around to look at Kija, see what her reaction was -- but Kija wasn't there. She must have pulled her arm out of Ishi's grip.

Ishi spun around to look for her friend -- and saw her, far in the distance, her brown, frizzy mop of hair over her face so that Ishi couldn't see it, running as fast as she could away.

Nenya ran down the street, listening to the sounds of the convention. And the cyborg, like her.

She snatched a man out of the way of a hovercar with telekinesis and kept running. She had to get to the girl.

She had to get to her before he did.

Kija~

She ran. Kija ran, ran, ran, as far away as she could from the city center. Her brown frizzy hair flew out of her hood and spread out like a cloak. It whisked across her face, blurring her vision.

How dare that man say those things? Everything he had said -- lies, lies, lies! She valued her robot friends. They were as good as human to her -- she'd never thought anything like that about them.

And yet she'd run from Ishi. Afraid that Ishi thought that she was cruel, afraid that Ishi thought she was thinking those things, afraid that Ishi thought she had believed that man.

And now... Kija burst into her house, rushed into her room, and slammed her door. Nobody else was home -- her mom was working at her shop, her dad at his office. She threw her bag to the floor and herself down on her bed. Silently Kija stared up at her whirring ceiling fan and the white, smooth stuccoplastic of her ceiling as she blinked back tears.

Nenya saw the cyborg run. He was too fast. She desperately tried to catch him, but the crowd pressed around her. Jeering. One threw her to the ground. "Scrap metal!" he sneered.

She stood up. That was IT. She had spent half her life trying to find other cyborgs and these FOOLS were going to treat her like dirt?

She screamed in anger and streetlights ripped themselves out of the ground, hurling into a building.

Everyone turned to her, looking at her in terror.

They were about to witness what happened when a telekinetic snapped.

Jesse~

I ran so fast. I could hear people calling after me, but I didn't listen. Suddenly, I hear a crash and some screams. I turn around, and gasp. A cyborg is pulling some streetlights out of the ground, and is now threatening them. I run to her, yelling.

"Stop stop! It's cruel! Don't do it!" I feel the words come out of my mouth. I don't even know why I'm doing this. She looked at me.

"Why? You should know how it feels like to be jeered at!"

"Yeah, but killing people isn't going to solve anything!" I reason, wincing as she almost drops one of the street lights on the people. She sighs.

"Sorry. But I know what I'm doing." She gives me a glance, and then crashes the streetlights onto the people.

I jump for one of the streetlights, not knowing what I was doing. And before i knew it, I was carrying it. Carrying it with my robotic left arm. I don't even know how I'm doing it.

"Stop it!" The cyborg screeches. I shake my head and groan under the weight of the streetlight. The people make a run for it and escape with their life.

"Thanks, cyborg. nice work," she grumbles.
