Robots vs. Humans

Robots vs. Humans Sci-Fi RP

*Note* I tried to post this before and I am not sure if it went through. So if this is a duplicate (or almost), sorry... and post on this one instead.

Here's a new RP idea from me! Hopefully this one is going to survive... with more than 2 posts... Frown all my RPs die...

Anyhow, my idea is that both robots and humans are considered citizens (on earth). Robots want to be more human, and humans want to be more robot. Like, robots like how humans have more in-depth emotions and are in general are more accepted, and humans admire robots' strength and ability to live forever (mostly). However, is each side okay with kind of merging with the other? Will a cyborg class emerge, different from both robots and humans? Or will robots'/humans' unwillingness to cede their powers to the other side lead to war? *dramatic voice* You will decide!

And... yeah! Make your characters! Um, but one request--no cyborg characters yet please, because we don't know if cyborgs will become part of the story. Please just make either robot or human characters, and then you can make them cyborg later. And you can have both a robot and a human character, or two of one side, or... basically any combo you want.

Name: Kija Arken

Age: 13

Robot/Human?: Human

Appearance: Brown hair, tan skin, dark brown Asian-looking eyes. Wears jeans and a hoodie. Usually holding her tabcomputer or it's in her pocket. Has a habit of twirling her tabcomputer stylus in her fingers, tucking it behind her ear, tapping it on the table when she's thinking.

Personality: LOVES RESEARCH. Loves to learn. Is keeping close track of the robot vs. human debate, realizes the advantages of both sides, not partisan (in the debate)

_____________________________________________________

Name: I-51 (Ishi)

Age: Has been in service 15 years, teenage-looking, but she's not a companion robot, she's a librarian, so she knows more than a 15-year-old human or companion robot *Note* Companion robots "grow" in maturity and knowledge along with a certain person.

Robot/Human?: Robot

Appearance: Silver plating, feminine appearance (doesn't look like one of those faceless robots who are referred to as it, not he or she), has hologram projector in palm so can display information, wheels in feet so moves very fast.

Personality: Works in the library. Often meets Kija, often talks to her about the robot vs. human debate. Personally believes that becoming cyborg should be a choice everyone is free to make (not partisan)

Kija~

Kija walked down the street, twirling her stylus in her hand as she headed for the library. It was a pleasant, balmy summer day. Clouds scudded in the sky, and a breeze whipped Kija's brown hair around. She pulled up her hood as she kept walking.

On the street corner, a rusty robot held out a hat. "Please donate money to help old robots get new parts so they can continue to live their lives! Every stel helps!" Kija walked over and dropped a few steel coins -- stels -- into his hat. "Thank you very much," the robot nodded to her. "Have a wonderful day." Kija nodded back and continued on her way.

As she walked, she watched the people and robots making their way around the town. In this area, most people were walking, enjoying the day. Both robots and humans patronized shops selling everything from specialty metal-polishing cloths to spare hologram projector parts.

Kija arrived at the library and pushed open the doors. A blast of air-conditioning greeted her as she walked to her usual seat, a stool at a counter near the shelf of tablets written in binary. Since most robots and most people knew binary, that shelf had a steady stream of people going by. Kija enjoyed people (and robot) watching, but for now she took her tabcomputer from her pocket and began clicking around with her stylus, looking to see if she could read a copy of that morning's news. She wondered if Ishi would come by that day to chat. Yesterday they had had a very interesting conversation about whether material prejudice (metal vs. flesh) could be avoided. Kija would like to talk  to Ishi about it more.

*Haven't written from Kija in a while, hope you still remember who she is! :-) I'm kind of thinking I'll make her sort of a villain, mostly because she is afraid to do anything. Then at the end, she'll be convinced, maybe even turn cyborg. And BTW I am switching to 1st person. I'm sorry if this is confusing and long.*

Kija~

I wake up and check my tabcomputer. A message from school about books I need to download before the year starts, a renewal message for my library card, a news bulletin. Still nothing from Ishi. I throw the tabcomputer down on my bed and plunk into my desk chair, opening my larger tabcomputer. I tap the link for the daily news for my daily current events upload. It feel so wrong and impersonal that I have to get my news from the nets instead of talking to Ishi.

The news feed opens. I scan it as it uploads: searching for fugitives from the convention, mobs attacking robots, library looted searching for fugitives.

I knocked out the man with the raygun and followed Jesse. "Jesse, stop!" I yelled.

Suddenly I crashed into the boy from earlier. Rodric gasped and stopped me, eyes falling to my mechanical arm.

He stopped, looked me in the eye, and let me pass.

I caught up with Jesse. "Jesse, stop!" I said, "They'll come for you!"

Suddenly someone jumped on me and I blacked out.

Jesse~

Run, Jesse. Run.

A bullet hits my nonmechanical leg, and I start limping. I can't do this. I fall onto the ground. It's over.

******

Intense!

Ishi~

Nenya catches up with us, but someone--something--jumps from upstairs and tackles her. She screams and falls.

Jesse keeps running, leaping out the broken window of the library. Raygun shots blast the ground around her.

I try to follow her, but she's too fast with those metal limbs. I'm not programmed for athletics. She turns a corner around an office building as I slow and stop. Then, I see a person wearing all black darting along the office building's rooftop. He--or she--fires the raygun. I hear a scream from Jesse. The raygun sniper leaps off the building into the alley where Jesse must be. I take a deep breath and run towards it.

Right before I turn the corner into the alley, a raygun blast explodes over my head. Steel beams, broken glass, and metal plating peel off the wall of the office building, falling towards me. I duck, curl into a ball. The debris collapses in front of me in a pile, blocking my way into the alley.

"Jesse!" I scream. Silence on the other side of the barrier. I dig through the pile, moving beams and sharp shards of glass. It's slow work--my feet don't have very good traction, my arms' servomotors are weak, and my hands, designed for shelving books and accessing tabcomputers, find it hard to grip the smooth materials.

Finally, though, I break through the wall. The alley is full of debris from the buildings on either side. There are blast marks from rayguns all over the concrete ground. And Jesse and the snipers are nowhere to be seen.

Tamar~

Bluebird freezes. She bites her lip, slides her fingers nervously down the shaft of her arrow. Arista looks at her expectantly, crossing her arms.

"I-I..." Bluebird hesitates. "I don't...remember much. I don't really remember anything specific, actually."

Arista frowns. "There's got to be something."

"Well, I remember the word Sunshiner. I guess... maybe I was a part of the group? I really don't know. I barely even remember my own name, and I'm not sure it really is my own." Bluebird shrugs, curls up tighter. It doesn't seem like she's deliberately covering anything up, but I'm definitely sure she's not comfortable with the subject.

"Looks like the sandwiches are ready," I say, breaking the awkward silence. I hand the first one to Bluebird, who takes it gratefully, but doesn't eat yet. She must be hungry, but I guess maybe she's just lost in thought. Luci gets the next one, and she eagerly bites into the soft bread and cheese. When I hand one to Addie, she passes it to Zain, so I give her another. Arista takes one with a curt nod, and Danie starts chowing down on hers immediately. I take the last one, eating it slowly as I watch the others. Arista looks like she doesn't trust Bluebird at all. Danie and Luci don't look concerned at the three new members of our group. Addie and Zain sit close together, eating, chatting, and laughing. I guess they're old friends or something. Bluebird sits with her back against the wall, her bow leaning against the wall next to her, and her quiver under her hand. It's like she expects an attack.

I'm pretty much stuck aganist a wall (not literally), and I don't know what to write.

Jesse~

I open my eyes. I'm in a dark room. What had...? Oh, that's right. I was captured.

I hear someone squirming next to me. It's Neyna. She's tied to the wall with ultravolet rays. And so am I. Shoot.

Kija *NOT ISHI! JUST SO YOU REMEMBER*~

I sigh. i can't spend the rest of my life in my room waiting for a message from Ishi. I decide to go outside for a bit.

I leave a note taped to the tabcomputer in the kitchen, sling my backpack over one shoulder, and get my bike from the garage. The news reports said there were some mobs in the city center. It's probably gone by now, but just in case... at the crossroads, I don't turn towards the main streets but instead to the outskirts of town. Barely anyone lives there -- it's where a lot of the utilities and warehouses are. It's not unsafe, though -- I've been there a few times and the neighborhood looks really nice and clean -- almost as nice as the areas around the library. The road has a smooth cement bike path that I follow.

I meander through the streets. Most of the warehouses look nice, with plugins for electric vehicles out in front and nice landscaping. But this one... I put down my bike's brake, staring at a giant steel warehouse. It looks like it wasn't totally finished -- there's a shell of metal around the beams, but through the glassless windows I can see it's not finished inside. It kind of looks interesting. I take my camera out of my backpack -- maybe I can photograph something cool! -- and lock my bike into a stand.

*So my idea is that Kija finds some of the men in black who kidnapped Jesse and Nenya. And then they tell her (gently, so she doesn't get suspicious) to leave, and as she's walking out, she finds the two cyborgs. Dun dun dun!*

Ishi~

Obviously, there's nothing I can do in the alley. I run as fast as I can back to the library. One of the male human librarians, Roderic, is pacing the floor.

"She... I must... she... find her..." he's muttering.

"Roderic," I tell him. "The two new librarians -- the ones you saw -- are missing. It may be the mob. Can you help me?"

Sorry, haven't been here.

She was a cyborg. A robot- mutant.

So why didn't I hate her?

Ishi ran up. She talked about the librarians, and finding them. I muttered consent and sat down. "Rodric? Are you okay?" Ishi asked.

Suddenly we heard a scream come from a warehouse down the road.

Ishi~

I jump up, pulling Rodric with me. "That could be them," I say in a tense voice.

"I have a hoverscooter," says Rodric. He  leads me to the back of the library, where a sleek hoverscooter is waiting. He jumps into the front seat and guns the nuclear engine. I hop on behind him and he drives out of the library and turns towards the warehouse district.
