The Sea's Song

The Sea's Song

The Sea's Song

September’s (very late) CBversary RP!!

~~~
Cambria is a flourishing port city, full of life, laughter, and magic. For a city built from the ashes of a war only months ago, it is remarkable how much it’s grown and developed. And it’s also remarkable how quickly it’s grown, though no one questions the magic.
Your characters were children when the city rose. And they are barely grown when the city falls.
An inescapable darkness has risen. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, an idea unheeded by the founders of Cambria. Too much magic calls forth too much darkness. But what’s done is done, and their only hope now is to journey beyond the land across the perilous sea, in an attempt to save the people they have doomed.
The journey is not for the faint of heart.
The Lottery is the last thing they give you, a system enchanted to find the bravest, the strongest, the smartest, only the best to sail across the Deep and find salvation.
Rules and Information that you will NEED to know (PLEASE READ THEM ALL):
  • There are 14 spots. Reservations are accepted, but you MUST post your charrie within a week of you reserving that spot or I’ll give it to someone else
  • This will start after I have at least 7 characters
  • I’d love a cast of both males and females, which brings up an important point
  • CHARACTERS!!!! I would love if we had a ton of diversity, so I’m accepting literally anything, especially POC (People of Color) and LGBTQ+ (@ADMINS, sorry, just wanted to make sure you saw this if you’re not allowing this, please delete the part where it says LGBTQ+, so no one gets confused, thanks!!) NOTE: I will be looking over your characters and okaying them.
  • The time period is a fantasy-medival, think Throne of Glass, Six of Crows, A Darker Shade of Magic, or if you have no idea what I’m talking about, just think of Pirates of the Caribbean or something in terms of clothing and technology
  • NO OP CHARACTERS PLEASE, THANK YOU!
  • Password: marshmallow fluff
  • A note on magic: If you choose to give your characters magic, it does not mean that they can summon winds, control the ocean, or anything big like that. The magic in this world comes from a sort of stronghold thingy, so it can be mined, but not everyone is compatible with the magic, meaning that it is very picky and may possibly reject your character
  • I might be a tad bit harsh on your character, but remember, it’ll help with your character building!
  • Aaaaand I think that’s it, I hope you read it, and without further ado. . .
Oh boy oh boy oh boy. This looks AMAZING!!! Can I please reserve a spot? I'd post my charrie right away, but I thought I would run out of time to join! *goes off to make insanely complicated charrie sheet*
So the timeline is medieval, you say? What part of the middle ages? Also, since Cambria is a port city, does that mean it's main industries are shipping, trading, and fishing? Is magic an industry? How does one get magic? Who enforces rules on the magic, and makes sure no one can get too powerful? Also, does Cambria rule itself, or is it part of a larger country?
Medieval-ish, not really true medieval, more like one of those fantasy novels in which people ride horses everywhere, and use swords and bows and arrows, if that makes any sense, kinda like Ella Enchanted. And to your second question, yup, their main industries are shipping, trading, and fishing, but the said dark magic has been wrecking ships along their coastline and driving fish away. Magic is kind of like gold in Cambria, it's mined from a source, but that source is obviously diminishing. The magic is stored in talismans made from said source, but the magic isn't compatible with everyone. I'll explain a little more about magic and how it works in a later post. So being that the magic has a mind of its own, no one is really super powerful, you can only be near so much of the source or you get really, really sick, and die. Cambria is a relatively new city, from the ruins of a revolution. Think of it like a city-state, but it rules itself, since previous rulers of the larger country have been deposed and were never re-established. Hope this helps!!
Full Name: Ilia Shevchenko
Age: 15
Birthdate: November 24
Gender: Female
Height: 5’ 11”
Weight: 125 lbs
Appearance: Ilia is painfully skinny due to anorexia— she’s around 10 pounds underweight. Her hair is long, white blond, straight and fine, but is patchy around some areas near the nape of her neck (condition known as alopecia arreata) because her body isn’t getting enough nutrients. Her eyes are dark brown, and she has short lashes and almost non-existent eyebrows. She has a bigger nose than she would like, and has full lips that are light pink. Her skin is a peachy pink, so it always looks like she’s flustered. She has a mole at the corner of her left eye; it’s her birthmark, but people often mistake it for a tattoo.
Default expression: Wide eyed and nervous
Personality: Ilia tries to be the optimist, she enjoys being a ‘cheerleader’ for people and watching them succeed. She’s an ambivert, caught somewhere between loving company but also enjoying being alone, though she’s slightly more introverted. Ilia has a hard time looking past mistakes, she gets caught on things that happened to her and spends an unhealthy amount of time wondering what if she had done something differently? Ilia has a lot of stamina; she keeps pushing herself even if she’s tired. She despises people who break promises, and doesn’t trust people until she really gets to know them. She’s always wary of others. Ilia is practical, and not very creative, but she’s good at thinking of solutions and is amazing at mental math.
Strengths (as in personality): Optimistic, supportive, determined, extremely loyal, practical
Weaknesses (as in personality): Distrusting, suspicious of people’s motives, doesn’t take criticism well, gets hung up on mistakes, very,very easily peer pressured
Greatest Motivation: Her mother— she’s always felt the need to make her proud
Greatest Flaw: Unable to move on from her past
Greatest Fear: Failure in the eyes of her peers
One Word to Sum them up: Wistful
RPG: Chaotic Good
MBTI: INFP
Hogwarts House(s): Ravenpuff
Social Status: Middle Class
Magic Wielder?: Nope, her mother sent her to a magic school, and the source rejected her. She’s been ashamed of it ever since.
Preferred Weapon: Daggers, she keeps one strapped on the inside of her thigh. It used to belong to her mother, and you never know when you might need a weapon, am I right?
Password: Marshmallow Fluff!
Currently (not counting Jarvis) . . .
5 SPOTS LEFT!!
Females: 4
Males: 4
Magic Wielders: 3
Undetermined: 2
Non-Magic Wielders: 3
Guys, if you’d like, we can totally do ships! Also, I forgot to do this, but if you know their RPG class and MBTI, you can add it on there.
Also a note on magic: The magic in this world is kinda like gold. It’s precious, it’s a physical material, and it’s hard to find. For now, I’m going to call it the source. If anyone has any suggestions to what the source should be (like a material), let me know. We’ll vote on it. Anyways, people who can wield magic will typically carry a pendant, locket, brooch, piece of jewelry with a fragment of the source in it. This gives them their power, and if you lose it, well, tough luck, buddy. The source is a very fickle piece of magic, and it doesn’t respond to everyone. Some people can use it with no problem, others may take a little work, and some may get completely rejected (the source will leave a little burn scar). Ability to wield magic DOES NOT develop. The source either likes you, or it doesn’t. This will not change. Which brings me to the point of too much power. The founders of Cambria were immensely powerful magicians, who studied in a monastery in the capital of Eskan, the previous country, which has since then been torn apart by a revolution and destroyed. Cambria rose from its ashes. All of the other said powerful magicians were killed in the war, and at the point where we’re RPing, the founders of Cambria are dead too, which means that no one can wield more than a fragment of the source. Without proper training at a monastery, getting close to more than a quarter-size of the source will result in your getting sick and dying.
That’s all I have for now; spaces seem to be filling up pretty quickly, so I’ll wait a few more days for the last 5 spots before starting
@September, can I change my cherrie to 14? Since most people are older I want to give a little more age diversity. Sorry!!
Oh, ok- in that case, the source - other common names for it at the monastery include the Wellspring, the Blur (with mages' individual fragments referred to as blurstones), and the Precious - likes Khadijah well enough, but it can get difficult with her. She thinks of her tiny bit of source as if she's tamed one of the panthers that sometimes prowl around her tent-hometown at night - powerful and willing to help her, but also capricious, inscrutable, and prone to stubborn refusal if bothered too much. She keeps her source in a locket around her neck, under her clothes and close to her heart. She had someone better with metal magic enchant the locket to be virtually unbreakable; to lose it would devastate her.
Loving this!! Blurstones is a great name for the source.
Full Name: Ailbe Driscoll (her father was irish and her moher was half-chinese)
Age: 14
Birthdate: August 5th
Gender: F
Height: 5'5"
Weight: About 110 lbs
Appearance: Auburn-red pixie cut hair, sad and also tired-of-the-world looking deep brown eyes that are kind of almond shaped deep brown eyes, high cheekbones, tan-ish skin and kind of scrwany. Ailbe is kind of strong in some ways, like at wielding a sword or a dagger, throwing a spear, but not great at things like pull-ups and sit-ups.
Default expression: Serious and sometimes a little angry.
Personality: Not incredibly violent. Smart (although she doesn't realize it), but lacks self-confidence. A little sarcastic and sometimes funny. She's not very happy with the way things are, either. But always brave.
Strengths (as in personality): Knows what is the right thing although she also doubts herself about this, can be very convincing if needed, and bravery.
Weaknesses (as in personality): Lacks self-confidence, and sometimes takes thing too seriously.
Greatest Motivation: Finding a way to fix/save the world.
Greatest Flaw: Her lack of self-confidence.
Greatest Fear: Doesn't like infinity or darkness, and is scared of what may happen to the city.
One Word to Sum them up: I'm not sure, I'll try to think of something later.
Hogwarts House(s): Ravenclaw/Gryffindor
Social Status: Low middle class. Her family isn't doing great. When she was little, her mother taugt her how to spin cloth and play the flute to help her family.
Magic Wielder?: No, but it was her wish when she was little.
Preferred Weapon: Dagger, but can use a sword or a spear.
Password: marshmellow fluff
I wouldn't mind shipping her, and she needs friends.
I like your character, but just wanted to let you know that race doesn't exist in Cambria :) Also, your appearance is a bit contradictory: if she can wield a sword/dagger and throw spears well, it would mean that she has a lot of upper body strength— so she'd be able to do sit-ups and pull-ups really well— maybe add something else, like she's not a fast runner?
Sorry, I was really tired when I wrote that. Um, I'll change it so she's not a fast runner and I guess you can forget about her race? Thank you!
What is RPG and... that other one?
(June 22, 2017 - 9:23 am)
An RPG, often abbreviated RP, is a Roleplay or Roleplaying Game. It's where each participant makes a character using a sheet like the one September worked out (but usually not that detailed, great job September for that!) and then, once the RP starts, writes from the perspective of that character. Plot can be predetermined, or made up as the RP goes along.
"That other one" you're thinking of might be a Round Robin, or RR. It's a similar everybody-makes-a-story deal, except that instead of each person making a character, the characters are shared. Each person will write a sentence, or a paragraph, or several paragraphs onto the story, regardless of which characters are in the post or whose perspective it's from. Plot is nearly always undetermined to start with.
Hope this helps!
