Wings of Fire

Wings of Fire Roleplay!!

Alright, so in this roleplay the canon characters do not and have not existed.  The wall of weird IceWing aristocracy rankings was never broken. There is no decades-long rivalry between any tribes (y'know, besides the usual "my tribe is better" junk.)  The Lost Continent is common knowledge. SilkWings are still servants of HiveWings, but there is no mind control. LeafWings' existence is not a secret and they live in a secluded forest. There is a school just like Jade Mountain, Unity Academy, but it exists on an island between the two continents and takes tribes from both continents. Scavengers are treated as they were before book 14 or Dragonslayer, in fact of even less importance because of the lack of the War of SandWing Succession.  They are of little consequence to this story.

Other than that the world is the same.

There can only be one Animus dragon for each tribe- it's first come, first serve (and only for Pantalan dragons.)  Only one blood-red egg MudWing and only one firey-scales SkyWing.  One character can be a hybrid for each roleplayer.  Four leafspeakers, four flamesilks.

There are five winglets in the school, just like Jade Mountain: Ruby, Topaz, Emerald, Sapphire, and Amethyst, each consisting of ten dragons.  You do not have to be a student.

All righty then!

Azure should be in Topaz, Polybia in Emerald, and Anthophora in Amethyst (like Swallowtail!).

I'm not sure about the dormmates. I'd vote for random, and then we can develop our characters friendships (or enemy-ships--is that a word?) with the dragons they're paired with. Smile But that's just my opinion.

NAME: Ebony

TRIBE: Nightwing

PRONOUNS: he/him

WINGLET: Amethyst

ABILITIES (LEAFSPEAK, MAGIC, ETC): Prophecy- can foresee disastrous events with particular clarity

ABILITIES (POWERFUL FIGHTER, INTUITIVE, ETC): Very intuitive and observant, good at stealth stuff

PERSONALITY:Reserved and quiet, prefers listening to talking.  He doesn't care much for rules and can be contrary and passive-agressive.  He doesn't think much of friendship but once someone has formed a bond with them he will viciously defend them, even going so far as to sacrifice himself for them.  He hates his power of prophecy and is haunted by the events he foresees.

APPEARANCE: Mostly pitch-black scales except for his neck and tail, which are patterned with small silver scales.  His wings are midnight blue instead of black and his horns are slightly curved.  He is small in size and wears sapphire earrings.

FAMILY: Unknown, he was raised by his older sister Clearmoon

BACKSTORY: He was born under a blood moon, granting him exceptionally strong prophetic powers.  He has no memory of his parents but according to his sister they were very superstitious and regarded his birth as cursed, and so they abandoned him.  Clearmoon, who was already preparing to go out into the world on her own, found her brother and took him with her.  As a young child he was tormented by his visions but has since learned to cope with them.

FAULTS: Not very strong physically, dislikes and is cold towards most dragons, very touchy about his powers, doesn’t like to ask for help or admit his faults

OTHER: Open to shipping with anyone

@Tsuki, I just wanted to say you did a great job of working out what's canon so that this can be fun and easy, thanks!

Huh, I just realized I should probably make a character sheet for Anthrophora too, so...

 NAME: Anthrophora

TRIBE: HiveWing

PRONOUNS: He/him

WINGLET: Amethyst

ABILITIES (LEAFSPEAK, MAGIC, ETC): Nothing special

ABILITIES (POWERFUL FIGHTER, INTUITIVE, ETC): He's very gentle and wants to be a doctor (good at healing). Kinda clueless when it comes to love, though...

PERSONALITY: Empathetic. Very sweet. Loves reading, and is extremely nonviolent. He also LOVES pistachio icecream.

APPEARANCE: orange-gold, with spots of black. Twisty horns and dark brown eyes. No natural HiveWing weapons.

FAMILY: Open

BACKSTORY: He grew up in Yellowjacket Hive, and he never really liked ordering the LeafWings around. He once went in search of the LeafWing forest all by himself and accidently wound up on the other side of the continent. Since he was very young, he's had a great interest in other tribes, and that's his reasons for going to this school.

FAULTS: Often distracted or lost in the scroll he's reading; sometimes hard to get through to

OTHER: N/A (for now)

So, what's up with the Book of Clearsight? Is it, like, common knowledge and an essential text for all students to read? And is Queen Wasp still the queen? Must be, since the world is the same...

Well, here's a bit of Anthrophora's persepctive:

||Anthrophora||

I look around at the dragons beside me. Here's a RainWing, there's an IceWing. I wonder what they're all thinking and where they've come from. Are some of them like the dragons I've read about, full of heroism? Are any of them villainous, infilterating the school? Will any of them be friends with me?

I look for my sister, Polybia, but she's nowhere to be found. I want to ask her what she thinks of this school. Maybe one of these dragons have seen her? I turn to the nearest one--a cream-and-brown SilkWing--and ask if she's seen her.

"N-no," she stammers. "I'll tell you if I see her though." I stare at her beautiful wings. I wonder what its like to go through six years of life with no wings. It must be terrible, looking at the sky and knowing you can't fly for so long.

"Great!" I say, smiling at her. "Thank you. I'm Anthophora, by the way." I figure it's good to get to know my fellow students.

"I'm Swallowtail," she says shakily. Her wings look like that of a swallowtail's. I wonder if she's nervous to be here or if her trembling voice is due to excitement.

"Nice to meet you!" I say, truthfully. "I hope I see you around, Swallowtail." I turn and hurry away. Maybe one of the teachers will know where Polybia is. But the only one I can find is an extremely strict, grumpy one who snaps, "NO!" and walks off. How rude.

I wander over to a stone and flop down, thinking about how awesome it must be to be able to spin yourself a soft hammock any time you wanted, or heal yourself by rolling in the mud, or breathe underwater, or breathe fire. I can't wait to find out who else is in my winglet!

As Ender walks in, she looks around. Hmm, interesting. They're all either nervous or excited. Or something else. She can't figure out what, though.

They walk gracefully over to the dorm names- not really caring where they're going- and going over to the dorm names, spotting hers next to the name Amythest. She can see several other names- Flamingo, a RainWing, Swallowtail, a SilkWing...Anthopora, another SilkWing...should be fun enough.

So they walk over to the dorm, and see the two SilkWings already their, curling up in hammocks. Her pale blue eyes scan over them- one is a flamesilk, the other regular.

Ender's mind is closed- she doesn't want to pass out in the middle of her dorm. So, with a snort, she falls onto her mossy bed, spreading out her wings.

Yes, we should do that! Okay..

Abilities are allowed but will be monitored carefully.

Hurting your fellow students is not allowed.

There will be 2-3 students per dorm.  Unless your dormmate is hurting or harassing you, you cannot change rooms.

Kakapo~~

"That SeaWing has a staring problem."

I turned to my brother, whose scales were black with red accents that kept swirling and shifting around. He was glaring at someone--I looked around to see who, and I saw a SeaWing, standing next to a NightWing.

"Don't be rude, Flamingo," I said. "Maybe they've never seen a RainWing before." Flamingo rolled his eyes, but he didn't say anything else.

"We should introduce ourselves, " I continue.

"Have fun," Flamingo scoffs. "I'm going to go find my dorm instead of wasting time."

"It's not wasting time, it's being nice!" I snap, but Flamingo is already gone. I sigh, and turn back to the SeaWing, approaching them.

"Hello!" I say. "My name is Kakapo. Who are you two?" The NightWing looks down at me with a imperious expression and I can feel my confidence shrinking. Maybe I should have just gone searching for my dorm...

"I'm Seaweed," the SeaWing says, sounding a little nervous. Well, at least they're nice.

The NightWing pauses for a moment, then finally speaks. "Starless."

"Nice to meet you!" I say. "What winglets are you in? I'm in Topaz!"

--

Flamingo~~

After leaving my sister, I search for my dorm. It's not hard to find. There's a plaque on the wall stating the members of the Amethyst winglet-- Anthropora, a HiveWing; Swallowtail, a SilkWing; Starless, a NightWing; Ebony, another NightWing; Ender, a NightWing IceWing hybrid; and me. There are two rooms for the Amethyst winglet--one for Ender, Anthropora, and Swallowtail, and one for me, Starless, and Ebony.* I would have preferred a room to myself. I guess if the others keep to themselves I'll be able to bear it, though.

Inside the room is a shelf of scrolls, as well as a vine hammock and two moss beds. I grab some of the scrolls and claim the hammock. The NightWings can have the moss beds. Before looking through the new scrolls I've gotten, I check through the orientation scroll again. There's a map, a list of rules, and other information. It looks like I'll have to spend most of my day with my winglet--I guess I won't be seeing Kakapo very often. I'm fine with that, but I'd bet Kakapo will be very disappointed.

Just then, one of my NightWing dormmates walks in.

~~

*The roommates can be changed if you want! I don't really care who any of characters bunk with.

Also, is there a limit to characters? I'm tempted to add another.

Reads through what's happened in the past few hours ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this community is so cooooooooooooooool!!!

Personally, I'm fine with the dorm arrangements!! And there's no limit.

Oh, Sterling, thanks so much!

||Starless||

"Topaz too," Seaweed responds. "Starless is in Amethyst." She's trying to seem cool and collected, but I've had experience reading her emotions: she's excited to spend time with this peculiar dragon. I sigh inwardly.

"Should we go in and find our dorms together?" Kakapo asks. Seaweed nods enthusiastically.  The three of us walk toward the school.

"I'll be seeing you, Seaweed," I turn toward where my pamphlet says the Amethyst dorms would be located.  I'm to be with the other RainWing- hmph- and another NightWing.

A jolt of worry courses through me.   Could the other NightWing- Ebony- read minds? I couldn't, and I was unnerved by the fact that I could live with someone that could. Even without the idea of another dragon making himself at home in my head, someone with such power would most likely feel superior to another dragon- another NightWing- with no power at all.

Ebony~

After receiving the orientation scroll and almost getting lost in the crowd of new students I finally find my dorm.  It’s a bit small for my liking, but comfortable enough.  Sunlight filters in from above and brightens the cave with a soft glow.  In the room are two beds and a hammock, as well as a shelf filled to the brim with scrolls.  The hammock is already occupied by a small Rainwing with black and red scales.  They look up as I enter and fumble with the satchel slung across my shoulder. “H-hi, I’m Ebony,” I say. “I guess we’re roommates.”

“I guess we are.” They smirk. “I’m Flamingo.”

“You certainly like reading a lot for a Rainwing,” I mutter.

Flamingo glares at me, the frills around his head flaring out. “You’re certainly dumb for a Nightwing,” he snarls.

“What’s going on here?” A cool voice asks from behind me.  I turn, startled, to see a looming shadow towering over me.  It takes me a second to realize it’s actually another Nightwing, with solid black scales and no trace of silver. “There better not be any trouble.”

Of course not, Your Majesty, I think sarcastically to myself.  But I don’t say this out loud, instead shaking my head and sit down on a moss bed in the corner.  Great, my first day and my roommates are already jerks.  I wasn’t even trying to insult Flamingo.  I begrudgingly unravel the orientation scroll and read through the rules, wondering at the “abilities will be monitored” one.  How can someone monitor Nightwing abilities, especially one as spontaneous as mine?  Maybe the teachers will make me share my visions with them.  A jolt of fear runs through me.  They better not.  I turn my attention to the map, trying to ease my anxiety.  Unity Academy has all the things I’d expect- classrooms, a dining hall, dorms, and a library.  More interestingly there’s also a greenhouse and a few rooms marked off-limits.  I take a deep breath and lay my head against the cool moss.  Despite my roommate situation, everything seems to be going okay.

((RP in the Topaz dorms. I don't believe Ash has any set roommates yet so if any other Topaz student want to be, just join the roleplay!))

Ash was curled up in his hammock, a pencil in his left talon and a sketch pad in the other. ((That's another thing I forgot-- he's left-taloned and likes to draw. Oh, and if anyone's confused, comments I make enclosed by double parentheses are just what I'm saying, not Ash.)) He looked up from his drawing at the sound of talonsteps in the hallway, and twined a strand of morning glories in his hammock around his wrist. It was a nervous habit, but one that the young LeafWing couldn't seem to break.

"Hello there! What's your name?" the new dragon exclaimed as they stepped into the cave.

((Leaving it open for anyone who wants to join.))

||Seaweed||

"Here it is," I say to Kakapo as we walk into the dorm.

"Hello there! What's your name?" Kakapo asks  the LeafWing already in the room.  Oh, cool, a LeafWing! I'd never met any others of my second tribe.

"It's Ash," the green dragon smiles at us.  "And you guys?"

"I'm Kakapo, and this is Seaweed." I wave shyly.  Ash looks a lot like me- we have the same wing shape, and similar coloring, though his is a deeper, richer, "greener" green, and he doesn't have my glowing scales.  I notice he's twined morning glories around his wrist.  He must be a leafspeak! So cool!

((My family has an... interesting history with morning glories.  My mom noticed them in my dad's mom's yard and said, "they're so pretty!" (And they are, they're one of my favorite flowers) and despite my dad's warnings decided to plant them in our garden.  They sprang up fast and began to suffocate our other plants and spread around the whole yard.  My mom's been trying to get them out.  That was before I was born and they're still everywhere.))

||Starless||

I sit down on the moss bed across from Ebony.  Hrmph.  Taking out the orientation scroll, I study the schedule and the map. Prey center...that's where Seaweed and I could meet after class.  I hope she remembers not to get too close to other dragons.  Probably not. Seaweed inexplicably preferred making "friends" and being "equals" with other dragons over influencing and controlling them.  It'd almost been her downfall at Good Fortune.

((oh nO attack of the morning glories!! I just chose them because I also think they're pretty and they were the first plant I thought of.))

"Neat," Ash grins. "Y'all must be my roommates, right? Ugh, silly question. Of course you are!" Kakapo laughed a bit. "Yup."
