Alamea—

Horseback-riding, chorus, Irish-dance, ballet, piano, theater,hippo riding…

I run through the list in my head once more. I still couldn’tbelieve that in a few days time, I’d be at the MadrianaGusic with my friendsperforming in the arena and staying in the FyriSayah castle!

Eli and Kataira had promised to take me to chorus and practicefor the Irish dance. They had run off somewhere to ask others to join ourgroup. Callen had turned it down but I understood. She’d probably win theostrich race anyway.

Dirk started to walk my way. I remembered his absence at thedance and his promise to show me something.

“Alamea!” Dirk yelled and raised his hand, signaling me tocome over. I was caught.

I turned around and walked to him.

“What?” I coldly inquired.

“What’s wrong?”

What’s wrong?! You dumped me at the dance! You haven’t talkedto me since… Hmm… Do any of those things ring a bell?

“Nothing.” I said.

“IS this about the dance?”

“I said, there was nothing wrong!”

“I’m really sorry about that. I couldn’t come… I had a… Cold.”

“And why didn’t you tell me?”

“I was too sick.”

“Okay, thanks for the information, have a nice day.” I startedto turn around but Dirk pulled me back. His face was close to mine.

“I really am, sorry.”

I gulped. Butterflies, hot face.

Ahh… He’s so cute…

Stop it, Alamea! Don’tyou dare!

“Are you entering the MadrianaGusic?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Theater?”

“Mhm.”

“So am I!”

Oh no! No, no, no! This was not happening.

“You really are cute when you’re nervous!”

AH! Why? Why?

I gulped.

“Alamea!” A voice from behind.

“I have to go.” I squeaked.

He smiled and let me go.

I stand up and dust off my skirt.  What time is it?  It's eleven thirty.  Not luchtime yet.  I'll go visit Darius.  Oh no wait, first I'll drop off Karanah's portrait of me in my room.

There!  All done.  I run through the halls, dodging people, glasses barely staying on.  Feels good to be free of classes!

The ostrich stables are deserted.  A few students water their ostriches.  Minerva's water is low.  I put a bit more in, as a service to a friend.  Darius is out of food!  "Greedy Darius!" I scold him.  "If you eat all your food at once, you'll get a stomachache, and then you'll be hungry later."

He looks at me.

I sigh and pour more food into his bowl.

[[My posts have been singularly boring lately.  I need a little excitement here!]]

"Hey."

I turn around.

"Lief!  Uh, hi."

He looks angry and embarrassed.

"Uh, is something wrong?  Was there something you wanted to say?"

He doesn't answer.

"Uh... mmmmmm... Are you joining any group or anything for the MadrianaGusic competition?"

"Yes!  Yes!  Actually that was what I wanted to ask you about.  Are you?"

"Probably ostrich riding."

"Uh, that was what I was going to do too! I was thinking, maybe you'd like to do an ostrich dance?"

"Sure... what kind of ostrich dance were you thinking of?"

"Like the kind where you have four or five people riding ostriches, and they ride them in patterns, and it's all coreographed.  Have you ever done those?"

"No, but I'd love to try," I say.

"Well, one of my other friends already agreed... and I thought maybe you'd like to ask someone?"

"Sure," I say.  "I think Callen would be interested, and Jasmine.  I'll go ask them."  He nods.  I run off.

[[Insert optional other post in which she asks.]]

When I get back, he's still waiting.  "They said yes," I say breathlessly.

"Okay," he says.  "Oh wait, here comes the other guy.  HEY!  OVER HERE!  JACOB!"

[[Get it now?]]

Please join the hippo races! XD

Alamea—

I turned around. Artemis ran up to me. She pushed her glassesup her nose. “Do you have a pet ostrich at all? I’m going to do an ostrichdance…”

“Actually,my hippo, Lavender, is my pet for responsibility lessons. I’m joining the hipporaces and I’ve never ridden an ostrich. I’m really sorry but I can’t. Would youjoin our Irish dancing group?” I asked her.

Shethought for a moment, pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and nodded. “Sure! Are you meeting up soon?”

“Yeah.Around five, we’ll have a meeting somewhere in the pavilion outside. Andregarding the ostriches, Callen and Jasmine would be really interested!”

Shethanked me and ran off down the hall.

Freshair, fresh air.

I walkout into the beautiful courtyard. Some students are sunbathing on some lawns orsitting around the fountains. I walked to an empty bench and sat down.

The sunwas blazing hot as it always did in Fyriah.

Iremembered Lavender, got up and walked to the far side of GenkuSuh, near theostrich pens.

My bigfat hippo lounged in the mud with her friend Nolan. I loved Lavender and we’dbeen friends ever since I got her.

I saw alittle bucket near the covered sleeping area with LAVENDER written on it.

Mangos, papayas and lettuce filled the bucket.

Igrabbed a juicy papaya and walked through the gate of the pen to my hippo.

“I’m sosorry that I haven’t visited you lately.” I rubbed her wrinkly head and huggedher muddy body, unaware of messing up my clothes.

“Openup!” I pointed at her nose and she opened her giant mouth. I threw the papayain whole and she chomped down on it happily.

“Weneed to start getting you in shape.” I told her, patting her head.

I startwalking to the entrance to the hippo track. I whistled and she heaved herselfoff the ground and crawled over.

Iopened the door and we walked out onto the sunny track. Lavender’s saddle hungup on the door. It was yellow with a big square mat for me and some long stringbuckles.

Ifastened it onto her and jumped on.

“Okay,NagGah.” Lavender remembered the command and jogged down the track.

I would join the hippo races; they seem really fun, but Callen's all filled up. And having an ostrich and a hippo? Maybe she can share a hippo with someone?

//Callen//

I swung myself over the fence to sit on while Alamea and Lavendar jogged past me. I laughed at Alamea, because of Lavendar's uneasy steps she was jiggling like crazy and her helmet flopped on her head.  "Thi-This isn't fun-ny!!! Ohohohoh" She managed to get out before turning the corner. A gate slamed and I turned my head. Darius and his hippo Jeno. He stretched in his navy blue saddle and he and Jeno trotted over the track. Soon they had passed Alamea and Lavendar. I couldn't keep my eyes off them, they were such a great pair. As much as I loved Alamea, I really thought that Darius was going to win for GenkoSuh. He looked at me watching him and I turned away.

Everybody, I haven't finished reading the posts yet but Io just wanted to say is that Lily is signing up for every kind of dancing they have; especially persian dancing. You haven't done the exibitions yet right?

Welcome back, Lizzy! I was wondering where you had gone...Anyways, glad you're back!

Everyone-I wasn't sure if you all have been having this problem lately, but sometimes when I see that someone else posted, I wonder if she posted part of the story, or if she was just commenting on another post. If I see that someone posted, and their post isn't up yet, I don't know if they just commented or posted part of the story, so I just wait a while to see if they did or not. Sometimes I'm stuck for a while because people keep posting before me! Tell me what you think of this solution, okay? Why don't we put a C (for comment) in front of our name if we posted a comment, and an S (for story) in front of our name if we posted part of the story? For example, if I posted my part of the story that happened next, in the "name" box, I would put "S Princess P.". Or if I just commented, I would post "C Princess P.". What do you all think? Do you think that will work? All comments good or bad accepted!

I'm still working on my story post, so I'll post it later when I finish.

I think it sounds like a good idea, Princess P.

Sounds good!  Now that the comment is showing up, I know what that "C" thing is...  now I get to leave everyone in the dark who hasn't read your suggestion :)

I agree with Admin. it sounds like areally good idea.

Question; if someone posts part of the stary and a comment should they put C S?

submitted by Lizzy, age 14, Texas
(June 2, 2011 - 2:13 pm)

That would be unnecessary, and one would just put S, because then people would wait for the post to show up anyway.  IMHO.
