//Lily//

I had been practicing like crazy for the MadrianaGusic. (Sorry if it was misspelled) I had signed up for all forms of dancing and horse racing and singing. (Are there specific types of singing) I decided to take a break from practicing and walk around outside. Darius and Alamea were both praticing racing their hippos. Several people were practicing various things on ostriches.

I went over to the horse stables and went over to Lace. I had practiced racing her with some other of the people who were racing horses for the MadrianaGusic and she had outstriped all of them except Cal and Tahir. (Cal is an afore-mentioned horse and Tahir is an afore-mentioned boy that Lily likes. Oregano you can say that Mary-Lee adds that to her book. I am not sure how Mary-Lee would find out about it since Lily isn't one to show it. She could learn about it from Lily herself when she was talking to one of her friends. And just to let you know; Freya, one of Lily's best friends, went with Tahir.) I walked back outside after giving Lace some sugar cubes and went down to the race tracks.

As I stood there watching  Darius and Alamea a person walked up behind me. I turned and saw Mai. I wondered if she was disappointed that the headmaster had decided not to enter GenkuSuh in the MatoDyfi. (I hope that that explanation is good.) "So are you entered for anything?" I asked her.

"Ostrich, hippo, and horse racing. I am also signed up for fencing and art."

"A wide variety of things then. Are you excited about possibly going to ( Forgot the name)? I know I am. I have been there a few times, but it is so beautiful a place that I wouldn't mind going again."

She didn't answer, but merely went on watching the racetrack. I left her there and went back to my room.

No one was there. I looked in my chest at all the splendid clothes my mother had made me. I was glad that I would have the appropriate things to wear in (Still can't remember the name). I wrote a letter home to tell about the MadrianaGusic. I also wrote a letter to each of my sisters.

Is this still Sunday? Will post as Darius soon.

Yay!  Yayayayayayayay!  It went up!  *dances around in wild excitement* *remembers self* *sits down in embarassment*

Erhem.  Sorry.  Artemis--

I don't believe it.  What have I done?!  Why on earth didn't I ask Lief who his friend was?  Now Jas is trapped in just about the most awkward situation she could be in.  The dance needs five.  Jasmine won't let herself be the cause of its breaking up.  Lief will stay.  Jacob won't back out because Lief is his friend, Callen won't back out because she loves Jacob enough not to desert him, and I won't, because then... then what?  Then Lief would dump me.   Wow, I'm getting to be as bad as the other wild romantics in this school!

"Artemis?" Lief is saying.  "You know Jacob, right?"

"Yeah," I hear myself say.  "Kind of.  By sight.  Nice to meet you, Jacob."

"Hey," he says.  "So... Lief, who else..."

Lief looks at him.  "Me, you, h- uh, Artemis, your sister, and Jasmine."

"Jasmine!"  Jacob stares at Lief.  "Lief!  I'm not doing an ostrich dance with Jasmine!  Elizabeth would kill me!"

[[BTW did Jacob decide to do the dual ostrich race?  I don't think he's said.  I'm assuming he isn't.  We can assume a change if you decide otherwise.]]

"Why not break up with her anyway?" says Lief, shoving his hair out of his eyes.  "You argue all night about you and Jasmine and everything else, and you argue all day about everything you don't fight over at night!"

"Lief!" moans Jacob, covering his eyes.  "That's not... you can't... not here, not with - her..." he points at me.

"If you want me to keep something confidential, I will," I say.  "If you want me to uninvite Jasmine, I will, but for heaven's sake tell me now!"

Jacob sighs and turns away, plants his hands firmly on Darius's stall.  He stands there for a long time.  Finally he turns around again.  "The first, yes, the second, no," he says.  "I'm not doing it."

Lief whirls and grabs him by the shoulders.  "You promised!"

"I'm breaking it!  I'm sorry!  But I promised Elizabeth once, too!  More than once!  That I won't break!"

"You hate Elizabeth!"

"A promise is a promise!"

"Same to you, traitor!"

"What's going on here!"  Mr. Tupriy cuts in [[OOC: Tupriy is an anagram for purity.  I do anagrams sometimes when I need names, especially last names]].

"Er, there's a disagreement," I say.  "Sorry, sir, we'll take it out of the stables. Lief?"

He releases Jacob's shoulders and the three of us walk out into the quad.  We stand in the sun, a triangle of kids.

"Okay," I say.  "Lief.  Look.  No.  If he doesn't want to, he doesn't want to.  Jacob.  See, if you actually hate Elizabeth, you should just break up with her.  Because you shouldn't try to commit both of you to more arguments and misery.  Okay?  And if you want to go with Jasmine, that's great, and do it.  Try to tell the others, me and Lief and Callen, and Jasmine if you're willing to talk to her, what you've decided, by tonight.  So we can look for someone else.  Tonight okay?"

They both nod.

"Okay.  See you guys later.  I'm going to get lunch."

"I'll come with you," says Lief.  We go into the cafeteria together.  When I look back I see Jacob standing in the quad where we left him.  He sits - or collapses, who knows? - on the grass despondently.

Gack!  No one's posted here in almost a day!  I will raise this thread to the T O P !

Mary-Lee:

I saw Artemis come in with Lief and smiled.  Got that on the list!

This lasanga is good!  I think I'll have seconds.  I stand up and wipe my mouth on my napkin, stuff my precious list in my pocket, and go up to the line behind Artemis.  "Hey," I say, smiling.

"What?  Oh!  Hi, Mary-Lee!  Uh, have you met Lief?"

"No," I say.  "Nice to meet you, Lief."

"Uh, this is Jasmine's sister, Mary-Lee."

We shake hands.

"So, uh, you're here for lunch?"

"I was," I say.  "Now I'm here for seconds."

We laugh a little awkwardly.  It reminds me of when Mom and Dad and Jasmine and Amari and I watched A Man For All Seasons over winter break.  Whenever Henry the Eighth laughs, all his courtiers have to laugh too, until he tells them to stop, no matter why he wants them to laugh.  What a crazy place England must have been then.  Everyone laughing and stopping and laughing and stopping.

"What do you think, Mary-Lee?" says Artemis.  "Chicken curry or lasanga?"

"Lasanga, if you're like me and hate curry," I say.  "Otherwise chicken curry.  It just looks like chicken curry.  I thought the lasanga was good, though."

"I'll take your advice," Artemis says.  "How about you, Lief, what do you think?"

"Chicken curry," he says.  "I'm allergic to cheese."  [[I just made that up, because it would be awkward if Mary-Lee recommended lasanga and both then took lasanga.]]

We take our plates.  I go back to my table, and Kristen and Sadie are already there.  We say hi to each other.

"We'll sit somewhere else," says Artemis.  "I won't steal you from your roommates."  We grin at each other, and she and Lief go and sit down by the windows.

[[Mary-Lee is intended as a kind of comic relief in this story.  She doesn't always further the plot, but she lightens up all the romance, parodies it, and yes, occasionally makes connections between characters.  I have some ideas for what could happen  next, but I'm trying not to write long posts, so I'll stop.]]

//Callen//

Let's see, if I'm doing Ostrich Racing at 4, then I'll get an Archery slot for 3. Oh, but that would interfere with Hippo Racing at 2:30. Well, I could make it before lunch. But, I promised Karanah and Eli that I would watch their Chorus at 9, then their Dance at 11. Well, maybe I could make Archery at 6. I would finish before dinner, and I wouldn't have to do anything on the second day. Perfect! I stopped marking things on my whiteboard hanging from my bed and turned around in my chair a few times. I looked at my watch, 11:45. I'll get to lunch, then practice nonstop. We were leaving for FariSayah tomorow morning, at 9, after lunch. We were driving there on a really fancy bus (it had a bathroom!), staying there for a the day in the palace, then performing the next two days. I was soo excited! I grabbed my jacket and helmet, starting out with Hippo and Ostrich racing.

Soo, can like, during the Hippo Racing, Callen can be like a pit stop or something while your character races, and then your character can be pit stop for the other half of the race while Callen races?

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I will try to more regularly. Promise! And I can't remember: is this in first person or third? I'm just writing this in third.

Also, Oregano, umm... On pages 13-14 I think it was, you posted the earring caper thing and at the end, Lief goes: "I'll tell you then," he says.  "I liked you better.  Karanah wears makeup.  She tries to look nicer.  You're happy with the way you look.  And you dress more sensibly.  You should be flattered." Could Karanah not have been Lief's girlfriend? She doesn't have one and the way I originally planned it, never had one. (She doesn't wear makeup, either... she tries to be inconspicious, by the way). I hope that this isn't an issue...

Karanah---

Life at GenkuSuh was going well, Karanah thought to herself. She had successfully avoided the dance by going out and exercising her ostrich, Crest. The <um... that art thing talent show. I can't remember the name> had been announced and she had signed up for two art classes: charcoal sketches and acryllic paints.

She waved at Alamea, who was walking through the hallway in the opposite direction. "Where are you going?" she asked her.

"Science," Alamea replied. "What about you?"

"Language Arts," Karanah said.

They said goodbye and she walked along hurriedly. Soon Karanah stepped into the Language Arts classroom. She was late. Flushing painfully, she looked around at the seats. Oh, no! Her usual spot in the inconspicious back row was taken. The only spot left was in the first row... right under Mrs. MacFarrel's nose. Karanah wasn't a bad student, on the contrary, she got high grades in most everything. It was just that she hated, hated being noticed. Usually she could slip away with not speaking throughout the class, but Mrs. MacFarrel might not let her.

Mrs. MacFarrel began talking. Karanah was so tense that she hardly noticed what they were doing. Then she had them write a poem, whatever they wanted. Yes! Karanah started writing quickly. Writing meant that the room was silent. And she wouldn't have to speak.

Hmmm. What should she write? Karanah was stuck for a moment, then had a flash of inspiration. She wrote her poem and then sat. At last, the other students were done. Mrs. MacFarrel asked some of them, usually the better writers, to share their work. Then, she said, "Karanah?"

"Yes?" she whispered, a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"Would you share your poem with us?" Mrs. MacFarrel's penetrating blue eyes were trained on Karanah. She couldn't escape them. Reluctantly, slowly, Karanah got up. And she read:

When evening dances

On feather-light feet

To envelop all

I smile.

When twilight reaches

It's long fingers

Out

Across the world

I laugh.

When night pounces

Like an ebony-black cat

I relax.

For I know

That I am

Safe

In my own

Small

World.

She stood tensely, waiting, for a reaction. What would they say? She didn't know.

Everybody, your post are sort of confusing. They don't really fit in the story line. I thought that the Madriana Gusic didn't start in FyriSayah but at each of the participating schools were the students do an exhibition at their own schools and the teachers pick the best in every category. I think one of every specific thing like every knid of dance or singing should have two people from each year one boy and one girl. Unless there isn't a boy or a girl then it would just be a boy or a girl. Is that okay with everyone? And I thought there was a weekend trip for people in their last year. Was that before or after the exhibition? I will post after I get an answer.

@Oregano: I was wondering that too. I think we skipped a couple days and now it's Tuesday or Wednesday.

@ZB-- I hope you're okay with my idea.

Alamea—

I stopped Lavender at the gate of the arena. Callen still hada faint sign of laughing on her face.

“That wasn’t funny.” I told her. I felt the hot sweaty hairstrands stick to the back of my hot neck.

“It’s just…” She stifled another laugh.

“Why don’t you try riding a hippo? Then you’ll understand.”

Herface lit up suddenly. “That’s a great idea!”

“Whatdo you mean?” By now we were back at the pen. I had started to go over to thesack of mangos.

“I’llbe the second rider! You have to do four whole laps, right? Well, you start, pit stop at round two, switch again at round three and I ride round fouragain.”

“You’rebrilliant!” I exclaimed almost dropping my handful of mangos. “But willLavender trust you?”

“She’llhave to learn. We still have a week.”

Ismiled at Callen. Seriously, she must’ve had some fairy godmother in her.

I threwfour mangos into Lavender’s mouth, petted her big head and left the stables.

“I’mgoing to take a cold shower and then meet the twins for dance.” I told her.

“Seeya. I’d better go to the archery halls.”

Weparted and I walked up to the bathrooms.

Thecold water felt good on my face and in my sweaty hair. I had my whole planfigured out.

TheMadrianaGusic would take a week or so. It was ordered by catagories.

Mondaywould be singing, instruments, theater and dance.

Tuesdaywould be filled with the races, hippos, ostriches and horses.

Wednesdaywas also dedicated to animals. Some ostrich dances, hippo taming, horsejumping…

Thursdayhad a lot to do with sports. Archery and fencing were just some of them.

Fridaywas filled with art expeditions.

Thewinners would be chosen on Saturday and Sunday would be the palace visit.

Iwalked back into my room with a new uniform on.

It wasaround four and Kataira and Eli would be meeting me in ten minutes. I rusheddown into the dance hall.
