MYTHS AND LEGENDS

This Book of Myths and Legends is intended to inform, illuminate, educate, and elucidate. But the trepidatious Reader must proceed with caution. Once the Reader has filled their mind with thoughts of Beasts, the Reader can no longer un-know them. Sometimes, the only safeguard against the shuddersome creatures that stalk this Globe is to utterly deny their existence.

Shadow whisper

the shadow whisper, has been dated back thousands of years. an invisible voice emanating from shadows, from all over the world. at first it was thought to be legend, only appearing in very bizarre situations, to people grieving of disappearing relatives, and even to people in the most terrifying of situations. recent research shows that this creature, is human, or at least was. referring to itself as a puppeteer, the world is its toy. the powers it possesses gives it the chance of reaching from its formal shapeless form, into a living or even inanimate object. not even the most powerful mortal or even emortal is safe from it. if you run into the current shadow whisperer, either befriend, or run.

Skull Dragons are dragons with Skelton like patterns on their scales that can live almost anywhere.  They practice magic. All can summon bones and use them like spears.  Many can also summon Skulls of Dragons that are Blasters- These are known as DragonSkullBlasters.  The Blaster often takes the shape of the user, such as the curve of the horns, any markings on the head, and the size of the head.  Some can also set a soul on fire- Blue fire.  There are only 2 confirmed cases of which the dragon can summon jewels that have different powers.

Skull dragons are very weak.  They die in one to two hits.

The Basalisk

The Basalisk is famed for it's power to kill any living creature that looks upon it's face. Unsurprisingly, it is related to Medusa The Gorgon, famed for being able to turn any creature that looked upon her face into stone. What the Basalisk looks like has been a dispute for many centuries, some say that it looks like a rooster, others say that it is a grotesquly malformed horse with horns.

But unfortunately, it looks different to any victim of it's stare, so no one knows what it truly looks like. Unlike what Legend tells us, the Basalisk is in fact a spirit-like creature, turning into it's victim's greatest fear. It's victims always turn to stone after death, much like Medusa. But it's victim's are not, in fact, dead. The Basalisk's victims are in fact still alives, simply their spirit is encased in stone. They have no way of escape, unless the Basalisk is killed, or at least, captured.

The Basalisk dwells in the mountains, and is famed to be older than the Powers themselves.

But no evidence has proven that theory. However, we do know that the Basalisk was once much like the Earth Dragons, maybe even one of them. His name was Mortem. Earth Dragons are greatly sensitive to the Balance, but Mortem was even more sensitive. So sensitive, in fact, that when Catastrophe took over, when the balance tippped, something happened to Mortem.

What happened is recorded by one of the Earth Dragon Scribes:

We all sensed it when Catastrophe took over, but Mortem was greatly affected by it. The moment it happened we all gathered to the Center of our home. The Fire Dragons were there as well as the Skeleton Dragons and the Sea Dragons. We gathered to debate what was to be done. But before anyone could say a word...... Mortem started convulsing. His body twisted and he screamed blood-red. We all withdrew from him. The day's light turned blood-red. He lay in a heap and twitched as his body slowly twisted into something horrible. He wailed as his spirit was literally torn from his body. His spirit hovered over his body, and slowly his spirit turned darker, and darker. Blood-red and dark as midnight his soul's eyes slowly disappeared. His eyes now had no pupils, simply glowing darkness. Then he spoke, his voice echoing with one greater than himself. "I will destroy and wreak havoc unto this world while it stays dark. As the Balance tips, so will my soul slip into the darkness. All hope and love will be destroyed while the Balance is tipped. I will destroy all, even those here to fix the Balance. I am Darkness. I am Evil. I am all that Catastrophe has created, and so I am all that Man has created. I will destroy and kill as Man has destroyed and killed. And I will not rest until the Balance is set back into place. Life will perish under my gaze, and if the world does not tip back into place, I will destroy EVERYTHING THAT IS LIFE!"

Then his spirit morphed into..... I shall not say. But the horror of that day never left us. His spirit flew away. The light was normal again. But everyone stayed frozen. Almost all of the Dragons had perished. Mostly the older ones.... almost all Dragons are immune to everything. We quickly left that place. The Dragons never met at that place ever again. After all, who would talk in a place with statues of Dragons.... some in mid-scream, some with their claws over their eyes, and with Mortem's body lying there. We moved our village far away from that cursed place.

That was the account of Ipsum, a young Earth Dragon Scribe. That is the only account of the creation of the Basalisk. Like the Mysterious Were-Wolves, the Basalisk will, as Legend says, turn good when Balance is restored.

I'm a Merfairy! To describe myself (as described in the Who's Here? thread):

Merfairies have fairy wings (mine are blue), fins, gills, and lungs. They can turn into a fairy, a mermaid, or a mermaid with fairy wings. I gave blue hair, blue eyes, and a gold tail.

Marmaids

There are two types of Mermaids; The first is Piscus, more fish than human. Most are protective of their territory, and tend to eat humans. They have shimmering scales and obvious gills. Their eyes are more crocodile eyes than fish, and they have two holes for a nose. They also have fins on their arms and very webbed hands. They sing the famous song of seduction to lure their prey, human or beast, to it's watery death. They lure you to the edge of the water, never showing their ugly face, and as you lean over the water, their arms shoot up and pull you down to the dark depths of the sea, drowning you, then feasting on your flesh. Highly dangerous, they dwell in the shallows of the sea, to easily choose an unsuspecting victim at the water's edge to kill. There are usually two hunting together, mates with their offspring. Piscus tend to have large, dagger-like teeth.

The second type of Mermaid are called the Kopin, and travel in schools as fish do. Tame and usually mute, they tend to show lost fishermen and shipwrecked sailors to the shore. They have seaweedy hair and a revatively human face, except for the eyes, which are more fishy than human. They have bare arms and their fingers are lightly webbed. They surprisingly do not have scales on their tales, but actually more dolphin-like skin. They have no extra fins except for on their dolphin tales. They are mute and use a intricate sign-language half hand signals and half tale waves. They are usually friendly, but when threatened and trapped, they are almost as vicous as the Piscus. They have slightly sharp teeth. They usually dwell in the deeper area of the sea where many ships cross.

Unlike most sea creatures such as Sea Serpaints, both types of Marmaids are mostly human. Like many cross-species, like the Griffin, both human and fish aspects must warp and change to create a living creature, like Were-Wolves, and that is why the Kopin are more dolphin-like than fishy.

PHEANOX!

MUST WRITE!!!!! ABOUT!!!! THAT!!!!!

Pheanox

The Pheanox are legendary birds who have the power to control and use Fire. At the end of their life, they burst into flames in their nest and are miraculously re-born out of the ashes. Very few records have been made to prove these claims, but the few records that are known are so descriptive that we have been able to piece together what the famous Pheanox looks like. They are golden birds bigger than a grown man. They have golden plumige on their heads much like a Blue Jays. Their eyes are silver, and if you look close enough, you can see the fire of their soul dancing in their eyes. They are impervious to flame but if they touch water-even one drop, then their fiery soul will be dowsed, and they will die. Their beaks are sharp and curved like an eagle's but much, much bigger. Their wingspan is giant, if one was to fly in front of the sun, then the sun's rays would be comepletely blocked. Their claws vast, giant, and deadly. They often perched on cliff-faces, basking in the sun's rays, and absorbing the heat, their very life source. They are known to nest on the top of mountains, to get as close as possible to the sun. They used to sing an enchanting song, one of hope and joy, almost as beutiful as the Song Bird's when peace is restored. Do say farewell to a dead one, they will say: 'Let my sibling's soul be passed up to sing an everlasting song, and let me, when my time comes, come to sing with him, for my sibling has stopped flying today.'

Once, in the Era of the Powers, they were common and you might see them almost every day. However, like the Dragons, the Were-Wolves, and sadly the Mermaids, the Pheanox have become rare, almost never seen. However, if you were to see one, you would never forget that moment. It would never fade from your memory, and you might even be blessed by one. The only time someone can be blessed by a Pheanox is when the Pheanox is almost dead-splashed by water, killed in combat, it doesn't matter. In their last dying breath, they will have the power to bless one person, be it animal, human, or bird. They will pass on their powers, to be impervious of fire, to control fire, to even have its respect. When that blessed person dies, they will not have the power to bless any individual, the Pheanox has the only power to do that, but when the blessed individual dies, they will join the Pheanox in its everlasting song.

Chinchilla, I notice that elves are not on your list of rare to see. We were once very common to see, and even lived in towns. Then the Revolution came and forced elves into hiding. I am rare to seek refuge out of my elven country. I agree with all of the oters on the rare to see list and I share your opinion about mermaids. I was once friends with a mermaid. Her name was Selruth. Beautiful hair.
