MYTHS AND LEGENDS

This Book of Myths and Legends is intended to inform, illuminate, educate, and elucidate. But the trepidatious Reader must proceed with caution. Once the Reader has filled their mind with thoughts of Beasts, the Reader can no longer un-know them. Sometimes, the only safeguard against the shuddersome creatures that stalk this Globe is to utterly deny their existence.

I noticed that this thread hadn't gotten posts in a while so I decided to fill it with a beauty of a post.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING IS horrible SATIRE AND IN NO WAY CANON

~

"Hi, welcome to Power orientation! I'm Celesti, and I'll be your guide for today."

"Okay--wait, are you even a Power?"

" . . . Moving on. Where was I--oh, right. I'll be your guide for today, and it's my job to keep you engaged as we go through orientation. What did you say your name was again?"

"Ecio."

"Right, Ecio...  What exactly do you have that makes you special? We have a giant black dragon of death and chaos, a Gryphon with impressive sky abilities and anger issues, an angelic wolf, a lovely unicorn, and a sea serpent. So...what's special about you?"

"I'm... A giant snake?"

"We already have a giant snake, and it can breathe underwater."

"Wait, no, wait for it... I have something way cooler than everything else."

" . . .? "

"Get this... I have claws.

* A long, agonizing pause*

"...You do realize we have a Gryphon with talons, a dragon with claws--heck it's even named Claaws--and a freaking Angel?"

"...Yeah, but... I can dig with mine."

" Okay, okay... Putting the whole claw thing aside, what's your side-affected Power? I 'm sure it's cool. We've got some awesome side-affecteds that really represent the demons inside the Powers. So what's your's?"

"Well... Get this. You know how that Gryphon dude has four, all representing like, his anger and 'inner demons' or whatever you said? Well, mine totally blows that out of the water."

"Okay...?"

"It's a giant sloth."

*EXTREMELY LONG AGONIZING PAUSE WHERE CELESTI QUESTIONS HER LIFE DECISIONS*

"...Does...Does it breathe fire or something...?"

"Get this--it digs."

" . . . "

"Underground."

" . . . " *The famously patient, ever-caring Celesti inhales*

"It's...cool, right? "So...   Caelani, a literal birdbrain, has a venomous poison-dripping Manticore and three other side-affecteds representing his anger.  Claaws has a creature of darkness and doom representing her, well... Yeah. Ayearth has a literal dragon. Even sweet Sylvia has a mist-weilding murderous magical owl. And the creature that best represents your power...  IS A SLOTH?"

"Yeah, I sleep in a lot. It's a snake thing."

" WHY DID YOUR PETAL EVEN EXIST? "

Introduction

This Myth and Legends entry was written by Mr. N and is dedicated to his daughter, Valisa.

When I first read the word Nymph to my daughter, I hardly expected that it would spark a curiosity in me that lead to a year-long study. I was reading her a story, and, at a chance, in a summary of the forest's creatures in that storybook, 'Nymph' was mentioned. "Daddy, what's a Nymph?" My Valisa asked.

Many have heard the word Nymph. They know Nymphs as forest spirits, made memorable from paintings of them in glades--but that is all, and they don't think of Nymphs other than that. But that question from my daughter sparked my curiosity. Indeed, what is a Nymph? How do they affect the world, and what is their place in it?

I have been honored to receive permission to include my studies and findings in this book. I would like to close this Introduction with a picture my daughter drew, of a tree and a Nymph.

Of Nymphs: A study

~

Part one: A summary of Nymphs

In beginning my studies of Nymphs, I discovered a few traits nearly all Nymphs share, as well as compiled an overview of them.

Nymphs never appear in Kyngdom histories. They each seem to carry a detachment from other creatures; appearing in a war or magical event has never suited them. They each center around the demands and behaviors of their species--never interacting with humans because, in their eyes, it is pointless.

Their lifespans are, as far as can be proven, long--with each Nymph having both a longer than human lifespan, and certain types having a certain life expanding resource. While they do live for a while, their population appears to be small.

Of Nymphs: A Study

Part Two: Forest Nymphs

Of all the known or speculated species of Nymphs, the Forest Nymph is easily the most known of. These Nymphs appear in paintings, and are said to tend the trees.

My studies on this species began at an art gallery, where pictures of Nymphs in glades among flowers could be found. Three of these pictures could be found there, and I studied them with diligence, even making imitation sketches of the artwork.

After studies and a single encounter with one of these Nymphs, the data I had recorded was ready for presentation, in the form of this study.

To begin with, Forest Nymphs are often depicted in clothing crafted from plant matter. The truth is that they believe in nurturing, caring for, and living among and alongside the plants so much that they do not craft from plants. They will not eat, nor wear clothes fashioned from, plants.

In my single viewing of a Nymph, she was wearing stolen human clothes. Others (though they are of a scarce amount) who had seen Nymphs all gave similar descriptions. The painters of 'Nymph paintings', too hasty to show a Nymph's unity with nature, were proved to have invented that aspect of Forest Nymphs.

So the Forest Nymphs are extremely caring towards flora life, even having an ability to flit through trees' essence. They,  when needing to eat, are carnivorous, though never seen hunting. Not much is known about a Nymphs diet other than this, and some have speculated that Nymphs do not eat regularly as humans do.

As for the Forest Nymphs ability to go through (share essence with?) trees,  some have said that the Nymph's connection with trees is what keeps them alive and/or sustained.

The Sanukan Shepherd

The Sanukan Shepherd is a dog breed hailing from the Northwest. They were created by early Sanukan settlers who bred huskies with the native Sanuka ice wolves. They are the same size as a huksy.  Their markings can be white or any shade of blue, while their main coat color can be black, white, grey, or silver. They are very intelligent and have amazing hearing, which is why they are used in the Sanukaville military. Catastrophe's army has also started using them at their northern bases. The shepherds have a weak frostbreath. They are quite fast and can be used, like huskies, to pull sleds.

DEMISE ORIGINS

~

"A beast is an untamed animal, usually violent or at least defensive. Not these beasts. Catastrophe, I believe I have found a way to make a Side-Affected Power! If I have indeed succeeded, I want you to have the first and last day in its features and behavior. Thoughts, my King?" The scientist smiled. So did the young man before him, fingertips pressed together in a cunning manner.

"You have done well, Ace-1. Hmmm. Let us see. Features. Unbreakable, cold, sharp, intimidating, and you can fill in the rest. Just make it as malicious and clever as possible and the behavior will figure the rest of itself out. Got it?"

"Yes, Sire." Ace-1 bowed low before strolling out of the room, ideas swirling in his expansive mind. Curved horns with plenty of spikes, hide made of literal ice, a visible soul glowing in its chest... This creature will be a masterpiece. "For the best results I shall make many, and pit them up against each other - to the death!" The scientist sniggered evilly. As soon as Ace-1 returned to the lab, he got to work. Working with souls was a dangerous business, especially when amplified with sap from the trees of Decoy Forest, but to please his King, Ace-1 was many to stretch many moral boundaries.

DEMISE ORIGINS

~

Ace-1 smiles grimly as he adds the last few twisted memories to the vessel. For that's what it is, a vessel. Beautiful and sleek, cold and cruel, face intimidating and claws ready to kill, this creature, whatever it may call itself, is the pinnacle of malice. Maybe that is what it will call itself. Malice. Ace-1 shakes his head and adds the last peice of crystallized soul. A blinding flash and a roar knocks him backwards, accidentally forcing him onto a 'Duplicate' button nearby...

Here's the beginning of a long list of Nocturnal ceremonies.

New Moon ceremony-- A ceremony held to welcome new members. The new member, or in some cases, members, stands on the Summons stone. They are then given gifts from each of the Head Priests, and any regular Priests or Priestesses who wish to. This ceremony is always held at night.

Waning Moon ceremony-- This ceremony is held to wish leaving membes farewell. Each member of the Nocturnal gives them a singular petal of a Lunar Rose. The leaving member then uses the petals in a creation. Then, on teir last night, at midnight, all members will gather in the Hall of Gifts, where the leaving member will present their gift. As a final gift, they are given one full Lunar Rose.

Ceremony of Songs-- One of the most iportant ceremonies, it is celebrated to honor the Founders. It is similar to Christams in the sense that the mebers make gifts and wrap them for each other, but it also involvves lots of singing and dancing.

Full Moon ceremony-- A ceremony to appoint new Head Priests or Priestesses. For one night, the new Head Priest must sleep at the base of the Shrine of Lunee withi the temple. The next morning, they are adorned in the Headpiece of Moons, and they must make a vow that they will never ause harm to Lunee, her Guardian, or her Followers, and they will perserve anceint artifacts and legends.

Passing of Moon Ceremony -- This ceremony takes place before the Full Moon Ceremony. It is when a Head Priest wishes to resign, or it is time to choose a new one. Back in ancient times, Lunee used to attend both this ceremony and the Full Moon Ceremony. The current Head Priests gather in the Room of Full Moons, and they invite in five potential Head Priests. The candidates then take turns placing their feet/paws/talons in the Pool of Ages. Whichever one causes it to glow becomes a Head Priest. Afterwards, the Full Moon Ceremony takes place.

Here's some Kyngdom holidays I managed to dig up if we want to flesh them out a bit or something:

Flower Festivities: Celebrated with the Ball of Flowers in April. Possibly similar to Easter, not in the Christianity part but in the spring holdiay part. Possibly more similar to Saint Patrick's Day, as a relaxed holiday.

Star Alignment: Celebrated with the Ball of Stars in September.

Harvest Festival: Similar to Earth's Halloween. Celebrated in October.

All Power's Day: Celebrated in December. Similar to Christmas, but instead of celebrating the birth of Jesus, the birth of the Powers is celebrated.

Ceremony of Songs: Celebrated by the Nocturnal, it's similar to Christmas but instead they celebrate the founding of the Nocturnal. Actually more similar to Hanukkah now that I think about it.

The Diumaascas tribe- traditions, orgins, folklore, ect.

So earlier today on Who's Here I totally just invented a tribal sort of people who live near the east border of Kyngdom and dubbed it Diumaascas. Now I want to write all about it! Yay!

Orgins

So basically, back in Ye Olden Days, there was this country on Kyngdom's east border with a name that has no decipherable translation to English, so it's simplified to Pkouehrliisaahve (core-Leese-ahv). The nation heard of the Powers and were occasionally victim to their destruction early on; this led to many folk tales and legends based on them.

Later on, after the Powers were returned to their instruments, Pkouehrliisaahve had a very long, costing civil war and was split up into six different so-called countries as a result. These "countries," however, were less of structured governments with strict borders and more tight-knit groups of people, forming their own community. These six communites/tribes are Subyehoos, G'Humilaa, Iiraadu, Zes'aa-bet, Caadir-ahe, and Diumaascas.

They all developed their own different customs, religions, traditions and such, but they all had the same language and met to trade goods and share news every full moon. They do sometimes have disputes, which lead to conflicts many times, but for the most part they're pretty at peace with each other.

Traditions

The Diumaascas of course have their own culture and ceremonies, impovized from Pkouehrliisaahve's old traditions but changed to better fit their own beleifs and such.

~Religion

The Diumaascans worship the Powers as gods, an are taught to respect and fear them; Diumaascans think, since they created all, but they also have the capability to destroy, the Powers must be praised and worshipped to thank the Powers for creating the world, but also be kept from punishing them for not giving the Powers what they deserve. They also have holidays/ceremonies relating to the Powers, which I will talk about next...

~Holidays

-Hitraabet'tu sepfellusem (Birth of the Powers)

This celebrates what Kyngdom's All Power's day does. Diumaascans celebrate the birth of the Powers by singing the song "Sediumaascans Glaurise'vaa" (The Diumaascans Glorify/worship You"). Families feast on a bountiful dinner, dance to joyful music, and tell the stories of the Powers. Traditionally, children under the age of 10 are given a small toy or treat with a story to go along with it, typically with a moral or lesson. The night is finished when all of the Diumaascans assemble together and chant prayers to the Powers while kneeling reverently.

-Dihaa'tu Glaurise (Day of Worship)

This day is much more somber than Hitraabet'tu sepfellusem; this is a day where all Diumaascans 10 and above fast the entire day, and all people rest from work, stay in their homes, and quietly praise the Powers. At the end of the day, families offer one prized object to the Powers, leaving it in front of their doors, in hopes that the Powers will ackowledge and excpet their offering.

-Seglarise'tu Demi (The Celebration of Ten)

This celebrates when a person turns ten, which traditonally is a big deal. Ten is the age a Diumaascan is considered to no longer be a child. At ten, the person takes their place in the Diumaascan society. Traditionally, they are given certain gifts as signs of this: a pair of supple shoes to show that their play turns to work; a new set of clothing, to show that they are growing and becoming an adult; and a piece of jewelry, made to reflect their spirit. This is celebrated within the family, but the ten-year-old is taken at sunset to be recognized by the cheif as an adult. The next day, that person begins to go to work.

-Di'haa sfurti Lihertise Iilupaa (direct translation is "Day on which Freedom Came", more commonly referred to as "Freedom Day")

This commemorates the day the Diumaascans formed their own union, with its own leaders, traditions, and way of life. This is basically 4rth of July; it's celebrated with festive foods, dancing, and old stories. No-one works on this day. Many people sing songs and wear festive clothes.

I'll come back with more later.
