Reawakened RP

Reawakened RP
Once, long ago, the world was awake.
We lived in harmony with magic, and it in turn lived inside of us. We flourished together in a partnership that was so interwoven that it became difficult to tell the person apart from the flame that was part of their being.
That time, however, is long gone.
We have abused the power that was freely given us, and now we live in a cold world, reigned by men in iron towers who hold our world in their iron grip. Magic is nothing but a memory, a story whispered when we think nobody’s listening.
But what if I told you that we can bring it back?
Hello everyone! I’m Autumn Leaves, a former cber who hasn’t been on in forever because life got very…… lifey! (And by that I mean busy) Anyways, my mom actually gave me the month off of English to do creative writing which seemed like a dream come true until I suddenly couldn’t seem to write anymore. So I decided that I’d use my English time to start an RP!
All that aside, here’s the premise.
Our characters are living in a world called Aeros that used to be teeming with magic. It was deeply engrained in the culture, the people, and the society. However, it wasn’t long until people came along who wanted to misuse it. They found ways to manipulate it to do their bidding but didn’t realize what the consequences would be until it was too late. On a day that would later be known as the vanishing, magic completely disappeared.
Now, the world is a place of steel and iron and technology beyond anything that those early people could have dreamed of. But it is cold. People are told exactly how to act, how to think, how to live. Nobody says outright that you have to follow the rulebook, but those who don’t tend to mysteriously disappear. There also may or may not be hidden cameras. Depending on who you ask.
Your characters have begun to hear whispers that there have been sightings of magic for the first time in centuries. They have heard that there have even been a few who have been able to channel tiny bits of magic.
Who knows? Perhaps one of your characters will be among the lucky few who show a proficiency for magic.
Ok, so I haven’t done an RP in like forever, so I'm going to do my very best to do this right. I haven’t done a lot of world building yet, but basically, Aeros is this super oppressed, super futuristic society, and you can feel free to worldbuild as you go :)
Here’s the charrie sheet
Name:
Gender:
Age:
A little personality*:
Appearance:
Position**:
Other:
*I always had trouble with this because it’s hard to fit a character in a few sentences when you haven’t even met him/her yet. So you can be as vague or as detailed as you want.
**Job, basically. You can choose something that's necessary for the survival of a civilization, (Engineer, scientist, ect) Or have fun with it and make something up.
Ok, hope that wasn’t too much information for ya! (I tend to do that :P) Have fun!
(Luna says nbwi. I am not a newbie Luna! I've been here for over two years. Crazy wolf.)

Yay! Autumn has knighted me as official topper until she is done with finals.

Here is my second charrie!!!

Name: Husko Ash. Goes by Silver, and some people call him Wolf.

Gender: Male

Age: 15 1/2

A little personality: He can think himself out of tough situations easily, but usually acts before he has time to consider his options. A little shy around people that he is first meeting or wants to impress. So I guess a little socially awkward. He has, however, been slightly hardened after years of fleeing, hiding, and now being basically a prisoner (See "Other:)

Appearance: Read the Other for why his appearance is rather unnaturral.

Rather short, fits easily in and out of shadows. His darker skin is almost grey yellow, and it has a bit of an iredscence to it. Not super noticeable. Just slight. His hair can pass for a strange hue of dark blonde, but in reality, it's closer to silver, especially at the tips. His eyes are a kalaidescope of different shades of dark blue.

Position: He is forced to guard the Aeros mountain pass from "invaders" who are really just poor, starving outsiders banished because of any relationship to magic or other reasons, and from dark, dangerous wild animals that still have hints of magic glowing like fire in them. The mountains are home to prison camps and illegal experimentation and research units that may or may not be connected to the governement. He's basically a prisoner, forced to spend long hours trekking across bitterly cold land not only guarding the pass from the dangerous outside, but also completing strange tasks for the governemnt with other outsiders. No one really cares if anyone dies. If he escapes, he wants to travel to the heart of Aeros, where he has heard of magical stirrings.(I literally took your idea for this world and ran with it, is that okay?)

Other: Yup. You guessed it. He is an outsider from a banished colony distantly connected with magic (thus the strange appearance...magic changes people). He was caught trying to cross into Aeros.

Okay well everyone's posted their charries so I'm just gonna start, if that's alright with everyone!

Leaf~

I plop my school backpack down on a couch and head over to the kitchen to get a snack. It's been just another normal, meh-kind of day at school. If being regarded as a weirdo because I draw unicorns and other magical things and read all the time and have foster parents is considered normal.

I reach into the pantry for a protein bar, and take it over to the couch where I pick up my novel and start to read. In my brain I can hear Dad barking gruffly, "No food except at the table," but today I don't care.

Just as I begin to immerse myself in the story, a soft knock on the door startles me, and I jump. Who could it be? It's obviously not the delivery man; there's no truck outside.

I set my book aside, and walk up to the door. A man is standing on the doorstep, and he's clearly not any sort of salesman. But he's still wearing a uniform. Then, I notice the icon on the right shoulder of his gray-green shirt. The symbol of the government. What have I done to break the law? Terrified, I slam the heavy door shut and lock it, waiting for the man to blast it open.

No one else on the street is home. I'm done for. The man opens the storm door and begins to pound on the heavy door. I hear the sound of metal sliding against something, and he begins to chop with some sort of sword into the door. I flee quickly to my room in the back of the house, slam the door, and wait for the sound of footsteps.

Finally,  I hear the man't heavy boot making contact with the floor. "You can't hide forever, girl. Magic is forbidden, and now you will pay the consequences." Magic? It doesn't exist! Why does he think know how to do any? And how does he know, unless-- people have been spying on our house? But the government doesn't do that. None of this fits. So...this guy has to be a fake! Wait--now I remember a symbol on the shoulder of his uniform. A blazing, red and copper sun. The icon of the infamous, huge, underground criminal organization that the Rulers claim doesn't exist. Sunburst. I hear him tramping through the house, opening and closing doors and cabinets, until he stands right outside the door. My heart is thumping so loudly I'm almost expecting him to hear it.

The door knob starts to try to turn.

But it can't be locked! The man curses under his breath and tries turning it harder. When he stops, I realize how hard I was concentrating on the door knob, and wishing the man wouldn't try to turn it. Did I make the doorknob refuse to turn? He curses louder, and pulls out his sword again. I'm done for now. I might as well make a last stand.

Suddenly, I hear a muffled cry, and a thump. The door opens, and two different people, a man and a woman, burst in. "You need to come with us. Now." the new man says. Neither of the two adults are wearing uniforms, but they both wear gray cloaks pinned with a brooch bearing a tiny engraving of the constellation of Orion.

"Why?" I demand. Who are these people? I notice the criminal has been bound and gagged, and is lying on the floor outside my room. "You have already performed magic without realizing it. We are part of Orion, an underground organization that keeps the memory and use of magic alive. There are people who would use you if they found out, or simply try and kill you. We need to take you to see Storm, the leader of our organization." I take a deep breath. "Okay," I sigh.~

So yeah, I added in the Sunburst thing to make more plot. @Rose bud, maybe Solstice could be the leader of it if you wanted...

Husko changed his name to Silver b/c his name is a foreign, easily-recognized name.

Silver~

I wake up with the echo of screams ringing in my ears.

Rolling off my mat and onto the frigid cement floor, I try to blink the nightmares out of my hand. Wherever my mother and sister are, I hope they're safe.

I hope they're safe.

Safe.

It's a sort of helpless incantation. The only thing I can offer right now.

I look around at the sleeping, shivering forms of the other Outsiders huddled on the floor, or in the bunks against the wall where the ones who have been here long enough to become Officials sleep. There's only one window, high-up, barred, and unnatainable. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who can see through it to the outside.

Solstice~

"We didn't get the girl." Commander Abasi's face remains still when he speaks, and his voice level, and yet tension floods into the room, as if the air pressure just dropped several degrees too many.

I feel the anger tearing through my chest, pulsing in hot waves to my face.

I stare Abasi hard in his cold grey eyes, daring him to repeat himself.

His eyes finally drop to the floor.

"Our purpose is to make examples out of those who try to re-awaken what is long-dead," I begin, drawing every word out slowly and carefully before I stab him with them, "cannot make examples if you do not follow your orders."

"We aren't making examples, Your Honor, we're participating in criminal activity. As a Ramiah, you of all people should understand that we work with the government and we profit off of it—" He argues.

"I did not ask for excuses—"

"You do not have to," Abasi cuts me off, "As a long-time supporter of your father, I feel it is my job to—"

"The ony jobs you have are the ones I give you. Besides, how different is our more private organization then what we do in the open? You speak to freely, if it wasn't for my father, you wouldn't be commander."

"I still think it is my duty to look after you," Abasi says with a quick bow of his head as he pulls his arguments back in.

"I appreciate your concern, but after all, we are looking after Aeros' best interest, aren't we? You know how much magic corrodes. Besides, I think we will be able to opperate more openly soon. Until then, I want you to keep looking for the girl. I'm not going to kill her, I'm going to talk to her."

"Your Honor, I have reason to believe that Orion is involved—"

"Then find Orion. I need to talk to her."

"Yes." With that, Abasi disappears.

I turn to stare out the glass wall looking out over the city. The sky is a paler grey then usual, and the wind blows swift and cold over the spirals and towers.

The answer's out there somewhere.

-Fox-

The chatter of the other kids shakes me from my daydreaming. Where am I? Ah, yes, school. School must be out. I had been busy thinking about the same things I think about every day. I wonder if it ever could be true. As I look at the old oak I've studied so many times before, at its gnarled roots and fallen leaves, I begin to think that there may be a real forest out there somewhere, not just a patch of shrubs like we get in the park outside the school building, or, even worse, metal trees. They call them 'art'. I call them fake.

I stand up and look around. I'm the last one left in the room besides the teacher and two others. She looks at us.

"Go on, children. School's over. Get to work." She says dismissively. In Aeros, school ends two hours earlier for children older than thirteen as many of them have part time jobs in the afternoon.

I grab my worn grey backpack and brush past the other kids, heading for the door. I notice dully that one of them is Leaf. She lives across from me not far from the library. I've seen her staring out the window in class, too. She seems nice. I always tell myself I'm going to talk to her, but I never do. Today I make no such promise. I don't notice the anticipating look on her face like she's going to say something as I walk away with my eyes on the ground.

Once I'm outside, I run. Down the school steps and full speed down the wide road I run. I cross over to the sidewalk, catching a glimpse of the ElectroBikes we're supposed to use for transportation with our Electro cards. They have a scan code on them that unlocks the bike and relocks it at the next charging station you drop it off at. I have no interest in these contraptions. I would rather run, feel the breeze in my hair and have the wind sting my face. My feet thumping beneath me against the pavement is a rather comforting heartbeat. But as good as it feels to run, I never feel quite free. I know I never will, but I like to think about it sometimes.

Freedom.

Someday I know I'll escape this place and travel somewhere where things are the way they are supposed to be. Somewhere real. I'm not sure quite what this place is missing, but there's more to it than meets the eye. It's obvious that there are things being hidden from us. Even if I don't know what they are, I can feel it. Everyone can, though most don't acknowledge it. They'd rather think they're free. And that's just part of how they're being controlled.

The Heart of Aeros.

The words echoe through my mind. I don't know what they mean. It was something I read in a book once. A book that maybe wasn't supposed to be where it was when it was. A book that probably wasn't supposed to exist, seeing as we don't have many books anymore. Our HoloTablets can project the text of anything onto a screen, or into the air, or just keep it on the tablet itself. They can do much more than books. Or at least, that's what our teacher told us. She said that books are relics, to be used as a reminder of our past. A museum exhibit. Nothing more. But I've always found them interesting and I'm glad we haven't gotten rid of libraries altogether.

I finally reach my street. One shop sticks out from the others like a sore thumb. While the rest are all polish and shine, sleek modern buildings made with steel and wood, this shop is made from stone and has a wood roof. It looks quite old fashioned and very out of place. The man who works here prefers to be called Woodson. No one knows if it's actually his name or not. Woodson, you could say, is my adopted father. Though that's not official. He took me in when I was about seven, and I've lived here ever since. I think it's quite a nice change from the steel and technology, but most see it as an eyesore, an unpresentable old heap that should be torn down. In fact, I'm surprised it hasn't been. The only reason Woodson was allowed to keep it was because it had belonged to his family for generations and as his father was a very important figure in the advancement for awhile, they couldn't just take it.

I turn the knob and the door jingles as I push it open. Various old fashioned odds and ends hang on the wall and line shelves and drawers. Woodson is very old and isn't very good with all the new-fangled junk, or so he says, so instead of working with new things, he fixes up old things. I can hear him muttering and rummaging around behind his desk as I brush by up the stairs to my room.

"Hello, lad! Come down and help me when you get a chance." He calls.

I open the door to my room, which squeaks, much like the floorboards do when anyone walks on them. It's a very old building after all. My room is the smallest, with only a bed and a chest and a closet and a threadbare rug. I don't have many belongings anyway, so I guess I don't mind. I throw my backpack down on my bed and flop down on top of it. I can still hear Woodson working downstairs, but he can spare me for a moment. My BioWatch beeps.

"Sensing fatigue. You need more sleep." It chirps.

"Oh shut up," I mutter. I'm only tired.

It beeps again. "Dinner is in just over two hours." I have the urge to rip it off. Then I remember. Dinner.

I run back down the stairs. "Hey Woodson, shouldn't I pick up something for dinner?"

A gray head with crooked spectacles surfaces behind the desk. "Ah, yes, good thinking my boy. We do need something to eat I suppose." Then he dives down back into whatever work he had been doing. I shake my head as I head out the door.

When I step out onto the stoop, I freeze. Leaf's house is just across from here, but that's not what catches my attention. It's what's on her doorstep. There's a man, knocked out and gagged, lying down, and two cloaked figures. They speak to Leaf, who's still inside, in hushed tones. Then they grab her and whisk her away.

For a moment, I just stand there, gaping. Then, before I can change my mind, I take off after them.

Phew, sorry for the long post. I know it's a lot of description and explanation and not a lot of plot, but I wanted to worldbuild a little and adjust to the setting and stuff. Hope I didn't control anyone!

@Leeli, so, I know that you want to ship Fox with Leaf, but, I was reading your charrie, and I thought that Fox seemed exactly like the boy in the woods that I was describing in my charrie. I mean, the boy would be altered a bit, probably not as "mysterious" and knowing about magic as I said, but other than that, Fox is the perfect guy for him. And I'm not saying that we would have to be shipped, we could just be best friends. If that's okay. Also, it could turn into a bit of a love triangle, 'cause I think my character would like Fox.

Anyway, whatever you want.

Thanks,

Stargirl!

@Stargirl, I just read through your charrie sheet, and that seems like it could work! Actually, it sounds like a great idea, and I'd love to do that! You're right though, your description would need a few alterations. I was thinking maybe this would do.

Fox was once upset about something, and ran away from Woodson's shop. He ran and ran (he has great speed and endurance, besides loving to run) until he realized he was at the edge of the city. There was a small forest he had never known was there, and he stayed there half the day. Later, while perched in a tree, he suddenly heard footsteps. It was a girl. He asked her where she was going, and she told him. She told him more than she probably meant to, and he listened. And then they talked of magic, and he told her things he had never told anyone else about strange things he had had happen to him. That he could sometimes make happen, though he wasn't able to control this strange force yet. And they became friends.

Fox returned home and never told Woodson what happened because Woodson didn't say anything about it to him. Since then, he's returned to the forest several times to meet May, but they aren't able to meet in the woods often. May has her school, and Fox has a long way to run from his home despite his free time. They live on opposite sides of the city. The thought had crossed Fox's mind before that they might be able to run away together eventually...but he sees no way it could work. It is only his distant dream.

Anyway, I thought that explanation could fit both of them. Now about shipping them, I think that's more up to Aspen than to me. I don't mind shipping Fox and May instead of Fox and Leaf, but since we had already decided to do Leaf+Fox, I think maybe a love triangle would be best, so that everyone is included. So, Fox and May can be friends, Fox has a crush on Leaf, and May has a crush on Fox. What do you guys think?

Sorry guys, I've been super busy with homework and I haven't had any time to do this. I hope it's not too late! I mean, only a few posts have been made :P. If I can't join, I guess you can shoo me out of here, but I'll make my charrie just in case:

Name: May Arlington*

*I was thinking that maybe Arlington could be the name of a corporation in Aeros, probably where her parents work.

Gender: Female

Age: 14

A little personality: May is creative, imaginative, and romantic. She is cheerful, warm, playful, and she can be loud, mischievious, and a bit flirty, but when she is surrounded with people who are serious, cold, or, simply, boring, she becomes quiet, bored, essentially a little depressed and sullen. Considering that in Aeros, most people are like that, she is not usually herself.

Appearance: Her hair is light brown, with a dash of red, and glints gold in the sunlight. She likes to wear it in braids, or simply down, but her parents make her wear it in a bun most of the time if she is going "out." She is on the pale side, but not sickly pale, or noticeably pale. She isn't tan, though. She has a thin spray of red-brown-gold freckles across her nose. She is very lean and long. For example, she has a long-ish nose that curves in, long arms and legs, and thin lips. She doesn't have much of a bust. She has a warm smile, and is very pretty.

Position: I was thinking that her parents put her in a "trade school" or whatever it's called. So, like, instead of a normal high school, she has to go to a school where she has to learn to do a job. If this is okay, she would be learning how to be a scientist of some sort. I'm not completely sure yet, but I just know that her parents are forcing her to become a proffesional something-or-other that she hates.

Other: May loves to draw, write poetry, dance, and act. She wants to become an artist when she grows up, but in Aeros, such a thing is unheard of. There is no reason for poetry, art, dancing, etc. May wishes she could change her name to something less serious, and more, well, flowy, artsy, delicate. Like Mae Tearspiral. Or something along those lines.

As you may have been able to guess, she doesn't have a great relationship with her parents. Her parents don't care AT ALL about any of her hobbies or what she wants to do with her life. They just want her to become a responsible, proffesional woman who contributes to Aeros and does something constructive with her life. They don't let her express herself. They don't let her make any decisions for herself.

All the students at her "trade school" are pretty much like all the non-rebellion adults of Aeros. She has no friends, except for one mysterious boy that she met when she was a little girl, about 7 years old. One day, she was angry with her parents. She had told them about the things that she loved to do, and they responded with "Those things are fine as hobbies, but when you grow up, you'll come to work at Arlington." She had no good friends at school, and none of her teachers supported her. They mostly regarded her as "that annoying girl who always distracts the other students, and makes trouble." She was bored at school; all they taught were scientific facts, historic facts, English facts, mathematical facts. They didn't talk about magic; they regarded that as a myth. So, that day, during lunch period, she snuck away. She hopped the fence that contained her like bars in a prison, and ran into the woods. It was beautiful there, nothing like the metal buildings and perfectly lined trees for oxygen. The trees were ALIVE, breathing. Their leaves were colorful, and littered the ground: yellow, green, red. As she ran through the forest, a memory was triggered in the back of her mind. THIS, she knew, was art. The true human language of the heart. Suddenly, she heard a boy's voice: "Where're you going, girl?" He was the same age as her, or, at least, he looked it. A spray of blonde hair, yellow as the leaves on the ground, covered his head. But, what stood out most to her were his eyes. Deep eyes, a color that she couldn't quite place.

Over time, it was a tradition to meet back there periodically. He taught her about magic, and they got to know each other better.

I'm sorry, this was pretty vague, but I will expand on this character (the boy) later, I mean, if you let me in. It may even be one of the other charries, if that's okay, but I haven't looked at them yet, so yeah.

Sorry I am so late to post!

~Lynett

sat at my desk, reading. You would think that being a publisher would be fun for me, because I love reading. But nowadays, books must follow the exact same guidelines, and it makes most of them plotless and boring. For one thing there can be no element of magic or fantasy of any kind in books. Also, everybody in the books must be normal, law-abiding citizens. Not quirky, or a rule-breaker. They have to be normal. Without a real personality. Basically robots. And, surprise surprise, that's what most of them were about. Robots. Right now I was reading  badly-written book bout a robot trying to fit into a normal society. It might have been good, but it was the fifth one that  had read. Today. Books used to be good. Entertaining. But for some reason, before I was born, the book guidelines were made. Along with a whole new set of super-strict rules. I have no idea how I would live if the librarian wasn't a close family friend. She still has books from when there were no guidelines, and sometimes she takes me back into the Restricted Section to look at them. I just finished one about a girl who discovers that she has magical powers. It was really intriguing, and it made me think. What if the world was like that? What if people had magical abilities. That would be amazing, but I know that the chances of that happening are the same as he chances that somebody will actually write a good book that follows the guidelines. By the time I'm finished daydreaming, my work shift is over and I can go to the library. It's rather crowded today, so all I can do is slip the book to the librarian and leave. When I get to my house, I'm alone. I'm about to start settiling in when I hear the door creak open. "Mom, is that you?" I ask. No answer. I walk to the front room to see a man with a familiar logo on his shirt. Suddenly, I realize that this is the logo of Sunburst. So the rumors were true! They are real! The it sets in. Wait. There. Is A. Criminal. In. My. House. I run into my room, slam the door shut, and lock it. He pounds on the door "You have to evacuate! There is absolutely NO magic allowed here anymore!" Magic? What is he talking about? I don't have any tie to think about it, because the door has been opened.

...

I'm sorry if that was too short.

So, I know that at the end of my last RP post I said Fox was going to follow Leaf and the cloaked peeps, but I was thinking maybe I could change that, and instead, he'd go to the woods and tell May about it. Is that okay? So we can just pretend I didn't write the part about following them.
