Reawakened RP

Reawakened RP
Once, long ago, the world was awake.
We lived in harmony with magic, and it in turn lived inside of us. We flourished together in a partnership that was so interwoven that it became difficult to tell the person apart from the flame that was part of their being.
That time, however, is long gone.
We have abused the power that was freely given us, and now we live in a cold world, reigned by men in iron towers who hold our world in their iron grip. Magic is nothing but a memory, a story whispered when we think nobody’s listening.
But what if I told you that we can bring it back?
Hello everyone! I’m Autumn Leaves, a former cber who hasn’t been on in forever because life got very…… lifey! (And by that I mean busy) Anyways, my mom actually gave me the month off of English to do creative writing which seemed like a dream come true until I suddenly couldn’t seem to write anymore. So I decided that I’d use my English time to start an RP!
All that aside, here’s the premise.
Our characters are living in a world called Aeros that used to be teeming with magic. It was deeply engrained in the culture, the people, and the society. However, it wasn’t long until people came along who wanted to misuse it. They found ways to manipulate it to do their bidding but didn’t realize what the consequences would be until it was too late. On a day that would later be known as the vanishing, magic completely disappeared.
Now, the world is a place of steel and iron and technology beyond anything that those early people could have dreamed of. But it is cold. People are told exactly how to act, how to think, how to live. Nobody says outright that you have to follow the rulebook, but those who don’t tend to mysteriously disappear. There also may or may not be hidden cameras. Depending on who you ask.
Your characters have begun to hear whispers that there have been sightings of magic for the first time in centuries. They have heard that there have even been a few who have been able to channel tiny bits of magic.
Who knows? Perhaps one of your characters will be among the lucky few who show a proficiency for magic.
Ok, so I haven’t done an RP in like forever, so I'm going to do my very best to do this right. I haven’t done a lot of world building yet, but basically, Aeros is this super oppressed, super futuristic society, and you can feel free to worldbuild as you go :)
Here’s the charrie sheet
Name:
Gender:
Age:
A little personality*:
Appearance:
Position**:
Other:
*I always had trouble with this because it’s hard to fit a character in a few sentences when you haven’t even met him/her yet. So you can be as vague or as detailed as you want.
**Job, basically. You can choose something that's necessary for the survival of a civilization, (Engineer, scientist, ect) Or have fun with it and make something up.
Ok, hope that wasn’t too much information for ya! (I tend to do that :P) Have fun!

top! I know life is insane again what with school and we all can’t post as often and that’s ok! Let’s just try to keep this from sinking to the depth in the meantime with the occasional top :) This rp is really fun to do with you guys and I’d hate to see it die.

I have an idea for all the magic-holders to flee. Involves Solstice and reveals her powers/part of her backstory. Will post later.

Have any of you read Lunar Chronicles? Solstice's magic is kind of like glamour. It's a hugely powerful magic in its purest, maddest form.

Solstice~

It happens so fast. One moment, I'm with Cynebil in the floating elevator, trying to keep myself rooted in this world, trying to remember that I am human. Movement has always been hard for me. It's almost as if I am turning into a statue slowly, from the inside out. And then the world shatters. Like glass. Cynebil is yelling something in my ear and the elevator is plummeting down much too fast, but it all seems distant. I feel as if I am breaking loose from a prison, raw power bursting from some supressed place and flooding all around. Some small, sane part whispers, something or someone unleashed your magic, stop it while you still can! But the rest of me was overpowered by the strong, burning madness raging and coursing through me. I want to see the world shatter like it shattered me.

:) that happened! Basically, whoever Solstice had captured as the ability to wake magic in others, so he/she must have triggered Solstice's magic, and she's slightly insane, if you haven't figured that out yet, so now she can't really control her power. Sorry, this is really bad, I just wanted some sort of chaos to force our characters into action.

Sirus~

The moment I stepped out of the prison walls, I almost collapsed from the overwhelming sense of...power I had in me. It was as if pure fire pumped through my veins, every second an agony, but somehow, it felt good. The sense of knowing your free, your free to make your own decisions, go where you want to go, say what you want to say. And knowing that you can use the power isnide you, you can unleash. I had never tasted anything so sweet.

The snow started to fall in light flurries, the white powder hardly covering the cold ground. I had started to search for some sort of coverage, but the snow wasn’t bad. But soon the light flurrie became a blizzard, and all I could see was white all around me, falling endlessly from the sky. Only by God’s mercy did I find a cave after a few hours of walking in the snow. Half frozen, I clambered I into it. After a few minuets I had found a comfortable crevice to sleep in. Then the moment I closed my eyes, I fell asleep.

~~~
What I suppose was a few hours later, I slowly woke up. I stretched, trying to get all the kinks out of my back from sleeping on a rock, but stopped when I heard a woman’s voice.
~~~

I’m really sorry I couldn’t Finish this, but I have to go to bed now. Really sorry!

Oh, Rosebud, I have an idea! So basically the direction I was taking Wren's powers fits pretty much perfectly with the waking up of powers thing that you mentioned. Wren is empty because she's basically a vessel for magic. Instead of containing it herself, it uses her as a conduit. Now this doesn't give her any actual power per say, but it does give her something unique. She's able to see the magic that fills the world (thinking about it, this might be kind of important for finding the source, but I digress) and maybe she could have the ability to wake it up in others. Or maybe not. Maybe we should make a character who's special ability is making other people's magic to from zero to ten thousand really quickly and randomly. I don't know. I'll leave it up to you, since Solstice is the one who is really affected by this. Either way, I think it'll affect Wren, because that's such a huge flare of power.

I'll post in a bit!

Luna says "knpp". Catnip. I thought you were a wolf.

*Who says it's for me? I've heard that cats will do anything for that stuff.*

Wait..... are you setting cat traps or something?

*No. Of course not. **runs off**

I'm still alive, I promise! Just very busy with life and all that.

Ember~

Wren has mentioned that leaving was one of the worst ideas she's ever had.

I disagree.

It's snowing, freezing cold, and we're both physically exhausted, but I feel a slight exhilaration at the prospect of this new adventure. This is my chance to find what I've been looking for. I know that there's some sort of vein or cavity of magic out there. Most believe that magic is only within a person, a flame working inside of them, giving them extraordinary powers. I however, don't believe it. I've had dreams of something like a river, except there's no water. The bed is filled with what looks like liquid galaxies, shimmering and sparking and drawing you closer. In it I could see memories of days past, when magic was freely used without fear, and glimpses of what is to come, when magic will reign again, and I knew I had to find it as soon as possible. I haven't told Wren much of what i've seen. WHen I've tried before she shot the idea down about as fast as I said it. She insisted that the way to keep magic alive was to stay at Orion and work with those still possessing the gift, and fight against Sunburst, but finding the magic is the best way to fight Sunburst's no wizardry law.

I start to ask Wren when we're going to find some shelter, as the sun is beginning to rise, when a voice speaks from behind us.

"Will you keep it down, please? You're not the only ones trying to avoid government notice, you know." I freeze, giving Wren a look saying 'What do we do?'

"Who are you?" Wren whispers. When he doesn't answer, she whips aroud, shining the light of her holotracker in his face. She gasps.

"Who is it?" I ask.

Wren~

I'm not really sure what I expected this moment to feel like.

Exciting, maybe. Life changing. Finding what the magic wanted me to find was supposed to change everything somehow. Give us a way to fix everything wrong with the world.

But now, standing in the freezing cold, melted snow starting to make its way through my thin jacket, and squinting in the dark at the person who I came all this way to find, I'm suddenly struck by a wave of doubt. Maybe this is just as ridiculous as the practical part of me said this was. Maybe there's nothing more to this than a delirious, magic-coma induced dream. Maybe there's just us and this boy, standing here in the snow.

I feel a tug on my sleeve and am brought back to reality. Ember gently pulls the tracker from my hands and shuts off the light, whispering "We don't want to draw attention to ourselves." I force myself to breathe, force the threat of being overwhelmed to the corners of my mind. I'll have to deal with that later. Time to follow a little bit of Orion protocol. I silently slip my stun pistol out of my pocket. I can barely make out our target's figure through the dark, and before he makes any move to escape, I press the barrel of the stun ray to the base of his neck. "Listen, I really don't want to have to use this thing, but it's imperative that we talk."

The stranger gives a soft chuckle. "First off, that's not a real gun and you're not really intending to shoot me." My fingers tighten slightly around the ray's handle. "Try me". He gently moves the nozzle of the gun away from his neck. "And second, I have no intention of running away." He pauses for an instant, and I hear the note of uncertainty that slips into his voice. "Also, call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure I've seen your eyes before. And I kind of want to know what that's about." I lower my pistol and smile for the first time in days. "Sounds like a plan to me."

We walk in silence for the next few minutes. The moonlight has faded significantly, leaving little room for missteps. Thankfully for Ember and I, the stranger knows these hills well, and finds us a cave that we had previously missed. Ember and I slump to the floor, exhausted. He offers to keep watch, and I can tell Ember is about to say something, but I interrupt before she can respond. "Sure. Thanks." I pause for a heartbeat before saying "I'm Wren, by the way. This is Ember." The stranger nods at both of us, simply responding "Sirus."

When Sirus is out of earshot, Ember gives me a strange look. "How do you know he's not going to run off?" I yawn. "I don't. I just have a feeling. Besides, he's not going to be much use to us if we can barely keep our eyes open." Ember shrugs. "There's probably a flaw in that logic, but I'm really too tired to care."

When I wake up, I feel more rested than I have in days. I wrap myself in my blanket and sit down next to Sirus and Ember, who are already eating some of our meager rations. I take mine in silence, and for a few minutes we just sit there, staring out the entrance of our cave and trying to chew our way through Orion-sanctioned jerky.

Finally, Sirus breaks the silence. "Biggest resistance operation in Aeros and this is what they give you to eat?" I laugh, despite myself. "Yup. If it looks like a rock, tastes like a rock, and feels like a rock, it's probably ration jerky." Ember stares ruefully at the chunk of meat that she still holds in her hand. "Or maybe it's actually a rock."

Sirus stands up, stretching his arms above his head. "Believe me, I know my rocks. I've been working with them for a long time. That stuff.... That stuff's even tougher." I try to hold back a laugh mid-swallow. It feels good to joke again. What with the ever-increasing threat of the government, we hadn't been doing a lot of that recently.

Sirus sits back down and turns to me, all traces of amusement wiped from his face. "So. Wren. I think you owe me an explanation." I hold his eyes for an instant, as if trying to reassure myself that I'm not completely insane. Then I turn away and stare out at the puffy clumps of snow that are tumbling down from the sky.

"An explanation. Sure. I guess I'll start at the beginning." I pause, preparing myself, then launch into the story.

"So there's this place called Orion."

Ok, so if we do manage to keep this alive, we have some more people together. Yay for that. *throws confetti* XD

Two things: 1) Will it bother anyone if I change my name to Kessia? 2) a lot of this post that I’m writing is going to be based on assumptions because I’m a little confused. If I write something wrong, feel free to correct me. Also I have had wayyyy too many late nights recently thanks to high school teachers literally DOUBLING the work load for the second semester. With that in mind, please bear with me if I make a stupid mistake like write the wrong name or have bad grammar.

~Kessia~

Every time I enter the city, with my fake appearance on like plated armor, it takes all of my self control to not murder every government official on sight. For what they did to my village, my family, they have more than earned it. My beloved siblings, ripped away from me. Especially my brother. Flashbacks of the day we separated still haunt me to this day. Telling my brother to go on without me, no matter that it was the best thing I could do to keep him safe, was the most painful thing I have ever done. He and I, we had a special bond. Age difference didn’t matter. We were basically twins, in the sense that we were so, so very close.

Today, the mission I’ve been sent into the city with by Echo is to scout the forest. Getting there isn’t hard, considering the secret entrance to Aeros is planted right in the center of the woods. It’s the one place that isn’t on high patrol by the government. There have been murmurings of some sort, and the leadership has a hunch that there may be some magic welders attempting to escape. It is my job to find them, and if possible bring them back to the base. Currently, I’m walking north. It’s been a few miles and my stomach is growling. A lot. I forgot to eat breakfast again. As I begin weighing the merits of turning around and sneaking into one of the orchards to steal some fruit, or stopping to hunt a squirrel, I hear something. It’s only a whisper on the wind, but instinct tells me that it’s voices floating through the trees. And not govern,ent ones either. As I head in the direction, my supple boots allowing me to step in near silence, the voice become clearer. Then suddenly several figures come into view. I freeze and crouch, listening and lettting some intrinsic part of me guide my actions.

”Explain,” on of the people says.

After a beat of silence and a sigh, the second one responds, “Okay. So there’s this place called Orion.”

Interesting. An Orion person. I listen to the rest of her tale, then the story of the other person with a huge amount of curiosity. Curiosity is one of my biggest weaknesses. Oops. As the expalination comes to a close, I suddenly remember my mission and the fact that the sun is now sinking. Standing up with a soft groan, I say, “I don’t mean to startle you, but I think I might be able to help your situation.”

Both girls seem to leap out of their skin in shock.  They look at each other, appearing at a loss for words.

I sigh. “Okay, look. You obviously don’t trust me, and you have no reason to. But, I’ve sat through your stories and I think I owe it to you to tell mine now. Walk with me?”

”Okay,” the one with the sharper features says to me slowly after a second of consideration. “Lead the way.”

Can Wren have a moment when she is like awakening Solstice's powers or whatever?

Silver~

"Kestrel is...it doesn't matter. She's not here anymore. She died in the raid that destroyed my people," I mutter to Acmite as we file into the main hall for morning meal.

"Sorry," he murmers back.

Morning meal goes well, with Acmite joking as louldy as the watching guards will let him without an angry, "shut up, there," in his general direction.

But I notice something wrong. There are more guards coming and going. It's even colder than normal in the compound, with chilly air swirling around our feet, meaning the outer door has already been opened.

When we are released to get our coats and guns from the lower rooms, I pay closer attention to the guards patroling the halls and staircases. They all seem on edge, as if something is about to happen. I can't help but feel uneasy as we pull on our hoods so that only our eyes are showing, and stamp into our boots.

"Something's up," I whisper to Acmite as two guards march past us to the door at the end of the lower rooms. The outer door. The last thing we'll see once they release us into the world of white for the day.

Acmite takes a while to reply. A guard has already punched in a password on the keypad next to the door when he finally whispered back, "I'll have your back."

The outer door hisses open.

For some reason, the chill of Acmite's words are even colder than the bitter, breathtaking cold that pours into the room. I want to tell him I'll have his back too, but the guard who entered the password orders, "everyone out! To your positions!" And we march wordlessly out into the white tundra.

~

Acmite's posiition is far away from mine. He watches the frozen river that cuts through two of the smaller mountains. I get the big pass close to the tallest mountain. I slog through the snow with a small group of outcasts, who quickly split off to go to their seperate positions, leaving only me, looking up at the giant, icy mountain with its tip striking straight into the sky. If I sheild my eyes and stare through the blinding white, I can see Jael, another outcast, standing at his post, a little further up, closer to the looming mountain. Otherwise, I'm alone. Like usual. In all the 6 months I've lived her, I've never had to stop anyone from crossing the mountains, and I hope I never do. Chances are, it could be a Wild One, looking for freedom, like me.

~

Ahhh, I hoped to catch up to the others, but haven't yet. Maybe Wren and Ember and Sirus meet Silver? Maybe they try to leave Aeros to get to the Outer Lands or something? Or... I dunno :)
