[SPOILERS] Discussion Thread for the story we're planning!

If you're not Hex or Flamarestii and don't want spoilers on our story, please don't read this thread!

Anyway, we can plan and discuss more here!

Yep, same as Hex and Flamie said, if you have any suggestions feel free to share; no need to feel pressured to officially join or anything, but we'd be cool with anyone interested stopping by and offering tips/feedback. Thanks for saying that, by the way!

* +10 motivation points for the week *

- As for the desert point, I'm thinking there will obviously be several deserty areas with differences, but the CSC is located in a dune-scape. However, perhaps there are other civilization, legends/etc. that are in different areas if the same desert. Like, at least for me, I envision the middle-East(and the lands stretching Eastwards) in the real-wold as more dune-like deserty, while the bulk of mid and southern Africa and northern Indian subcontinent seem to be more "desert-wasteland" with their own gimmicks(such as Monsoon season, or the annual flooding of the Nile, etc.).

I'm also wondering if we could have a system of natural protection around the CSC/CSD, such as a mountain range guarding one side, then desert and/or maybe a body of water sheltering the rest of their territory?

*** In case you are confused about or need a refresher on some of our abbreviations: ***

CSC = Central Sands Civilization, a group of semi-unified clans/states/etc.(think Greek city-states, perhaps?) that span the majority of the Central Sands Desert

CSSCentral Sands Speak, official/unified language of the Central Sands Civilization

CSD = Central Sands Desert, a large desert in the centre of its continent(currently unnamed)

Sorry for the similarity right now, we may change things later as things progress :/

Sure, natural protection and isolation. That could be why lots of the conflict in the CSC is internal, bc they're mostly isolated/protected from anyone else who's out there. Should there be one way to get into the isolated part, though? Like an oasis that makes the desert passable if you go just the right direction?

Yeeees *cackles*

Like maybe there are bordering-on-supernatural sandstorms, but if you know the path/a method using something similar to a compass?, you can manage to safely traverse the desert. (Sorta like using torches to navigate the Lost Forest in Breath of the Wild) Additionally, mirages could be used as a diversion tactic~ Always fun to play around with those

The whole isolation = turning in on itself is a nice angle; also makes sense... I wonder if other areas could be preying on/intentionally sowing seeds of internal discord in the CSC? There would need to be a fleshed out motive, I suppose though. I'm thinking most likely greed, but it could definitely be more complex if we want.

It was in the Great Distant Age of Makh Khrani-Shorafash* that our story begins.

Back when the Shakvi nah-la Bakhshat ish Makh iyakh, khud ish la Makhra-yakh; back when all was of ymur murkha, for all was well in the world of the ila-mur Sakraha.

~~~~~
---  Key (basically translations from CSS) ---
1.) Makh Khrani-Shorafash = Literally "Earth-Water-Sky together/as one"; a period of time in which the world (or at least the Central Sands Civilization) was united under the three "Goddesses" and enjoyed relative peace
2.) Shakvi nah-la Bakhshat ish Makh iyakh, khud ish la Makhra-yakh = Literally translates to, when the "All-war was not yet [waged], and the Rebirth* [had] not yet [happened/been]"
--> *(technically the word used is "repeat," instead of "rebirth" but bleh, I don't wanna nitpick rn.)
--> Also the words in brackets, [these], are implied(not actually used, but you can guess from context) in CSS, but are kinda necessary in English. Thats why I added them in the translation even though they're nonexistent in the original text
3.) ymur murkha = very happy/good, much happiness
4. ila-mur Sakraha = ila -> most high/big, -mur [implies plurality], Sakraha = spirit/god, etc.; basically "the highest gods/spririts"
~~~~~  ~~~~~

I'm not really feeling up to doing more with this at the moment, but y'all can add stuff if you want. I'll be back later to rewrite + continue writing, but just wanted to put a nice mysterious mythology hook out there.

- Finally making some painful progress with the language, but it is indeed much slow and very tiring, if not fun to look at when it's done. Probably going to switch the the map for awhile :' )

See y'all soon! Ciao~

I think other civilizations invading would be greed, and maybe jealousy about the goddesses favouring CSC more than them. We'll see. Language looks great, and I'm excited for the map! Guess that's all, bye for now.

There's one thing I'm wondering: is this on Earth or another planet/realm/plane/universe altogether?

Also do we want to keep Serai (Sarai? I'm forgetting) as a desert character? If so we should expand on her(? Also forgot) and her species.

It's definitely another universe! As for Sarai, I'll leave that up to y'all; we don't have to keep that first snippet, I just wanted somewhere to jump off from so we could get started. 'Course if you want, that part can stay tho' :)

I like Sarai/Serai (you spelled it two different ways in the snippet (: ), although we kind of shifted away from the archeologists, so maybe we want to repurpose xe (I checked pronouns) and the archeologists into different roles? Xe's species sounds it would make like a cool part of the desert realm—maybe emmisiaries sent from the gods or something.

Ooh, that would be fun! Sounds good then, let's repurpose xer!

Maybe soon we can get into some more actual writing again! :D

P.S. Just wanted to say, great job everyone! I'm really glad this is still going, even if our process can be a bit slow. It's a fun little thing I constantly look forward too on a day-to-day basis.

Do we want to keep using the archeologists and that storyline or repurpose them or forget about them enterely? I think we should keep them, whether for archeology or something else idk. What do you think especially, @Flamie (because you made them)?

It would be fun to include them somewhere, but I feel like they just don't fit well with our world anymore. When I made them I was going for more of a 1800's or something vibe in Egypt because that's all I had to base them off of. Now I think to include them I'd maybe give them more creative names, and things to make them fit in and not seem like boring old Earthlings? I'll see if I come up with any interesting names. Otherwise, we can let them rest in peace and work with new people. Good question, I'd almost forgotten!

Agreed, let's find a way to include them later, as an easter egg or something like that!
