Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Ultimate CB Book Log
Have you read...

Have you read a book recently?

Enter its name here. This is the 2017 Ultimate CB Book Log. Well, technically starting in 2016, but who cares?

This is a place for us to keep a huge, giant log of books, both for ourselves, and also so other CBers can see what we're reading. Everytime you finish a book--whether you've read it or not--put its name and author here. You don't have to talk about it or anything...you just type in its title. We can discuss books here if you want, but it's not required.

Have fun!

I think this is a great idea, Owlgirl!

Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore

This was a really good book, although it had lots of profanity and was slightly inappropriate at times. There was one part that I found horrifying, and one that was very strange. Overall it was very good, but more of a teen/YA book than children’s.

Woohoo!!! This thread has been ongoing for over a year!!! It's no longer 2017, but to top it all off, I'd like to say that What We Found in the Sofa, and how it Saved the World by Henry Clark Is a really good book!!! Happy New Year everybody, and keep reading!!

P.S. Should we start a 2018 book log, or just continue this one?

Thx Owlgirl!!!!!!!

The four books I got for Christmas were:

One of us is Lying (Karen M. McManus - the only one I've finished so far)

The Hate U Give (Angie Thomas)

The Book of Dust book 1 - La Belle Sauvage (Philip Pullman's new book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Les Miserables (Victor Hugo)

I have no idea how I'll finish Les Mis, seeing as it's over 900 pages (with tiny writing) and written in 1845, but I read Ron Chernow's biography of Hamilton so anything's possible!

Winterling by Sara Prineas--****

I loved this one. The plot was interesting, the characters were well developed, and the story sucked me in. It's about Fer, a girl who lives with her grandmother at the edge of the woods. Fer knows she isn't normal, and she find out why, when one night she sneaks away from home into the woods and discovers a strange pool. Out of the pool comes a boy who can turn into a dog. After Fer saves his life, he takes her through the pool, The Way, which is a portal of sorts that can take you to another realm, and she discovers he isn't a boy at all. She also discovers that she belongs in the other place, and she must find a way to save it from it's evil ruler, the Mór.

Stray by Elissa Sussman--*****

OH. MY. GOODNESS. This was SO good. The story follows Aislynn, a young princess. Aislynn is about to attend her Introduction ball, where she will be introduced to suitors. But when she has an outburst of magic that she can't control, she must be Redirected. Redirection is when a princess is taken to a different academy and trained to be a Fairy Godmother and not stray. But on her way, she meets a young man named Thackery, who happens to be a gardener at the new academy. Though Aislynn's loving heart is taken when she becomes a fairy godmother, she finds that her strange feelings about Thackery continue to grow. This is an amazing fantasy story about true love, friendship, and magic. It is beautifully written, flips all the stereotypes, and I couldn't put it down.

The Secret Box (I forgot the author, sorry!)--****

This is a mystery that will surprise and amaze you. Jax Malone gets lots of things for her twelfth birthday, but when she receives a metal box from her Great Aunt Junior whom she's never met, strange things start to unfold. Jax wouldn't have thought anything about it iif her mom didn't freak out. But freak out her mom did, and she took the box and forbade Jax to have it. Of course, Jax can't let it go. She convinces her cousin Ethan to help her, and they get the box back from her mom. Then, with the help of Ethan's older brother Tyler, they go on a race to open the box. They never guessed what it held inside would be so important...

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien--*****

Do I have to summarize this? Let me say this--it's a little slow at parts, but it is AMAZING. Go. Read it. Now. Please.

Winterhouse, by Ben Guterson

This was a really good book about a girl named Elizabeth who lives with her poor aunt and uncle and is treated like nobody by most people. She loves books and word puzzles, and ends up at a mysterious hotel over Christmas break. Many mysteries unfold, and Elizabeth discovers things about herself that she would ever have imagined.

The Mr. Terupt series. They're very good, and probably some of the best realistic fiction books I've read.

Oh wow I forgot this existed

Dune - Frank Herbert

A good read, though it took me two months. Interesting characters and great worldbuilding. It's one of those books that's action-packed but not necessarily gripping; interesting while reading but not exactly pulling when you're not.

The Book of Dust, Book One: La Belle Sauvage - Philip Pullman

WOOO THE PREQUEL IS OUT AND IT TOOK ME MONTHS AFTER WE GOT IT TO FINALLY READ IT BUT WHATEVER

This was brilliant is all I can say and I can't wait for the next one

An Unkindness of Magicians - Kat Howard

Really, really, amazing. Well-written, with unique characters and such a good storyline. It's a little gory though - also has some swearing and other adult content. Proceed with caution.

The Girl Who Drank The Moon - Kelly Barnhill

Good plot, great worldbuilding, characters cliche but not distracting, bittersweet ending. Every time I picked that book up, it was pretty much impossible to put down again. The writing style was a little childish, but as a whole that just added to the tone.

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen! People say it's boring and old-fashioned, but it really gets interesting later on. It's one of my favorites!
