Nothing like being non-binary and having one parent totally refuse to acknowledge that, and the other say that they accept you but then also say to your face that any pronouns outside of she/he don't exist so they're not going to use them (and that they/them is grammatically incorrect, so again, they refuse to call you anything other than he/she)...

I'm sorry @Jaybells. That sounds awful! I hope you can get them to understand. Sending you good thoughts

i don't know if it would do any good but you can remind that parent that singular "they" has been used for a long time to refer to a person whose gender is unknown, or show them that singular "they" as in gender unknown OR a person who uses they/them pronouns is in the marriam webster dictionary

Thank you to all who responded! Just kinda frustrated when I posted this, but we'll get through it! It's not really anything new, just the same problems as always, in the end.

I do want to say, I love you wonderful people tonnes, and feel so incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive and accepting community! <3<3<3

So true ^^ using "grammar" as an excuse not to respect people's pronouns is not just rude, it's completely unfounded in actual grammar

Today I cried in a bathroom.

It was lovely.

It was just one of those days where crying in a bathroom is as normal as breathing.

wow yes I completely agree with that! sadness hurts but it's nice to feel something for a change, at least I know I haven't lost the capacity to feel emotion altogether

ugh, horomones.

nowadays I don't even know what my emotions are called, apart from 'hangry,' 'depressed,' or 'furious'.

and then there's that emotion that happens when i'm singing along to Encanto or Trolls songs to annoy my brother.

...

does one control emotions, or kinda just avoid having emotions altogether? any advice?

I tend to try to just let my emotions flow. If they're very strong I like to express them in writing or art. In fact, it can help to sort of really, really concentrate on an emotion - like, if you're feeling sad, you can put on sad music and write a sad story and just let yourself feel sad for a while. After a while the sadness usually goes away of its own accord. Or if it doesn't, you can just firmly concentrate on happy things to counteract the feeling.

(sssh, Iffy's asleep. She's saying "zzzai." I think she's snoring.

Pro tip: Hide in the bathroom and sob until you are dry of tears and numb of emotions. Always works. Side effects may include: Headaches, sore eyes, red face, people asking you if "you are alright"

DEFINITELY don't avoid having emotions. It can be hard at times, but I like to feel happy when I should feel that way. If you have to feel sad, just remember that life always gets better.

You can't avoid emotions, but you can harness them. While it can be really annoying for emotions to come out at the wrong time, they can also be extremely helpful. Some of the most famous actors in the world are HSPs (HSP stands for Highly Sensitive Person), and a lot of artists make art by putting their feelings on paper.

Next time you're experiencing an emotion you're struggling to label, try better getting to know it by:

- Making a playlist for it. You've talked about liking music before (if I remember correctly, you're especially a fan of Imagine Dragons), so try finding some songs that describe how you feel, maybe because of how they sound or because of the lyrics. If you still don't have a word for said emotion, try titling that playlist with emojis that might show a color you associate the emotion with, or maybe if it's a bad emotion, an emoji for a food you don't like.

- Making some art based on it. It can be abstract, or not. You like to draw dragons, right? Maybe you could draw a dragon based on how you're feeling. You're a really good artist, from what I've seen, and doing what you love will probably help you feel calmer towards the emotion, even if you don't really understand it. Art is an adventure, after all. Explore!

- If you're not at a time where you can sit down and dedicate time towards doing the things above, try quickly jotting down a couple little notes about how you're feeling, and returning to those notes later when you're ready.

I hope this helps! Please know that holding your emotions inside is dangerous and really, really bad for you. The best thing you can do is try and understand how you're feeling. Once you've got a better idea of what's going on, then you can work with your emotions and properly harness them.
