Chatterbox: Inkwell

NEW STORY THREAD!

NEW STORY THREAD!

Okay, I know there's already a bunch in Inkwell right now, but I needed something new. The other ones are not moving or are too developed for me.

Here's my character: Nathaniel

Age: 13

Appearance: Normal looking by regualr standards, with plain brown hair and a gaunt look on his face.

Nathaniel was filled with a fiery rage. Why was it always HIM they decided was nothing special? He would show them! Nathaniel walked away from the building, not believing he had been rejected. It's not like EVERYONE can turn invisible! He filled out about fifteen applications, did one thousand pushups for them, and turn invisble. He couldn't believe they wouldn't let him into superhero school. Just because he couldn't fly.

Nathaniel didn't want to feel the rejection. He was not normal. He did not fit in with normal people. The truth that the people at Shane's Academy, also known as Superpoweed School, were telling him was that he didn't fit in with them either. He didn't fit in anywhere. He felt himslef unwittingly turn invisible and stalk down the road.

Don't feel afraid to use someone else's character or add something that doesn't really have anything to do with the plot!

I'm just going to write something... it probably won't make sense.

Nathaniel, you're on. Glad to have you back.

"JOHN!" Brooke hollered.

"What?" John said smuggly from outside of the wrecked shed. "Something wrong, Brooke?"

Brooke fummed.

"Where are we, anyways?" Leo whispered so John couldn't overhear.

John heard.

"Shane's Academy, where else?"

"We're INSIDE Shane's Academy?" Nathaniel exclaimed. "Wouldn't that mean that we crashed throught the ceiling or something?"

"That's EXACTLY what it means!" John laughed. "The teachers should be here with reinforcements any second now, so I should go." John's running footsteps could be heard as he took off down the corridor.

"Darn it," said Brooke. "So the teachers. They might help...?" It was obvious she didn't believe what she was saying herself.

"Help?" said a voice from inside the wreckage. "We'll try."

"Who... who was that?!" Elexhiia exlaimed.

A lady who must've been a teacher appeared in the wreckage.

"Ms. Norfleet!" Amber exclaimed.

"Oh, hello Amber."

"You know each other?" Nathaniel asked, confused.

Amber shrugged. "She did little speeches at the program at our school."

"I certainly did," Ms. Norfleet agreed. "Now come on, class, we have to get out of here before the reinforcements come. I'll reassure you that the police, unlike me, are NOT here to help you."

I don't know. It's just something to keep the story going. Welcome, Norfleet. Don't remember her? She's Fabolus Soph's character: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/110133?page=21

Hooray! *jumps up and down in joy* Peoples have returned! @ Theo: I like how you brought Ms. Norfleet in!

Brooke ~

We scrambled out of the wreckage, spurred on by the sound of the approaching authorities. I had to bite back tears at the site of my ruined home. John was going to pay. Dearly.

We followed Ms. Norfleet down a series of halls, listening tensley for the sound of police. Though any sounds of them soon faded away. We were led up a set of stairs, and down a hallway the same pristine white as the rest of the school. Lockers lined the walls, and sunshine shone through the windows. On a regular school day, this hall would probably be filled with buzzing students hurrying to class. But now there was only an eerie silence, broken only by the sound of our footsteps clattering against the floor. Ms. Norfleet stopped in front of a door with the words "Teacher's Lounge: No Students Permitted" typed across the fogged glass. She pulled out a set of keys, and quickly unlocked the door and flicked on the light. I'd never been in a teachers' lounge, but it looked pretty much how I expected. A room with a few tables, a sink, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator, a sofa, and a small tv. Completely ordinary. Strange, cause I would have expected a bit more for a super hero school.

Ms. Norfleet ushered us inside, then locked the door back. We settled into seats with a sigh of relief. My ankle was throbbing, though I shoved aside the pain.

"So," Nathaniel said after a moment of awkward silence. "No offence, but why exactly are you helping us?"

Ms. Norfleet smiled, then moved to the cupboards, pulling out mugs.

"Because I knew you were kids with powers, and I figured you likely hadn't crashed a shed through the school roof on purpose. And I knew whatever the circumstances, it wasn't right to let kids with superpowers be turned over to the hands of the police. You can only imagine what they might do to you."

Ms. Norfleet pulled out a few packets of hot chocolate, dumping them into each mug in turn.

"So," she continued, keeping her back turned. "You want to tell my what you are up to, aside from failing to pilot interdimensional ships?"

Our jaws dropped in unison.

We hesitated, looking at each other. I wasn't ready to trust her, despite her help. But I also was willing to bet good money that there was a lot more to this woman than met the eye.

Top!

I can't write right now (for various reasons) but I'd like to sometime in the next few days and this needs to get to the front page if we're going to revieve it (or we can just write the whole thread on the other page). Top! Or I will post my non-cannon drawings of some of the characters! And I won't even apologise!

Haha, I messed up on Brooke horribly. But to be fair it was before I reread her character description, so I have an excuse.... Actually, just forget I said anything.

Nathaniel, it's been awhile. You're on.

Ms. Norfleet beemed at us all. "Yes, I know what an interdimensional spaceship is. I did go to college after all. You'll learn a few things about interdimesional spaceships in college, kids, wheter you want to or not," she said. Nathaniel wondered if that was distain in her voice or just the remembrance of old, bittersweet memories.

What had they been doing? Suddenly, Nathaniel's mind seemed blank. Everything that had happened in the past few days, did it matter? Did any of it matter? Wouldn't it just all go away, to be another bittersweet memorie they'd all hesitantly remember one day?

What would happen when this was all over? Would things go back to being normal? Was there even a normal to go back to?

"It's complicated--" Brooke started.

"Most good stories are," Ms. Norfleet sighed.

"We got all got tangled up with issues at Shane's. Whether it was for personal reasons, or we just we at the wrong place at the wrong time," Nathaniel spoke up. "Things got really complicated, HUNT was involved, and as soon as it seemed we were out of deep waters, we were pulled back in. Now John, who was posing as a student at Shane's but was actually an evil golem created by HUNT, is back, even though we shut him off or something and--"

"Whoa," Ms. Norfleet held up her hands. "That's a lot. Do you think you could start over? From the very begining? Just for this old lady's sake."

"No time for that," Storm burst into the room. "Time to wrap this up."

"Storm!" Catherine shouted. "Stop it! You're going to ruin the character development or something!"

"This isn't even character development," Storm argued. "They're just talking. Not getting anything done."

"What's going on?" Brooke demanded.

"I thought I locked that door!" Ms. Norfleet added.

"Yeah, well, locks can be picked," Storm hissed irritably. "We're here to fix everything. What's the problem?"

"Fix everything?" Nathaniel asked. Who did Storm think he was, first disappearing to nowhere and then waltzing into the room claiming to be able to fix everything? "This isn't something you can just fix by snapping your fingers! If it was, I would've already!"

"Yeah," Brooke said. "Nathaniel's right. Fixing everything isn't going to come easily!"

Catherine sighed. "Storm, I told you we should've waited."

So. That's something. And I suppose I wrote Catherine and Storm a little bluntly... but it was sort of fun! Plus I, like Storm, did NOT want to wait through a lengthly explaination of the whole story so far. So guess what? Third person party interverns and saves the day. Excpet there is no second person party. Unless that's me. Hmm. I need to go think about this by myself.

If this is entirely unexceptable, someone can rewrite it. I just needed to get words out.

Before I write, I was wondering where to go from here. Aren't we still missing our powers? Also, what's the plan to take out HUNT?

Of course Storm had to get all riled up and shove his way in. When everything was under his control, he was as calm as could be and always plotting something. Lately, though, he'd been too hot-headed and upset. I guess everything became completely out-of-control for him. He was on top of the world, but then the rug was pulled out from under his feet and he fell with a crash.

The other kids were staring at us like we were some weird aliens from Mars. We might as well have been. I decided to make some stuff up, fudge the truth a little. The cleanup crew could always handle it later.

"I'm sorry for breaking up this party, or whatever this is over here, but we've got some serious trouble. We took out John, yes, but the other golems are still around. I'm sure they're causing whatever problems we've been having. We're superheroes, right? It's our job to help people out. So I think we should all go back to HUNT and try to stop this, for good this time," I tried to convince the others. I looked over at Storm for an instant and mouthed, Chartette? He shook his head in an imperceptible no. It was as I thought, she could help us once but not again.

"Hold on," one of the boys challenged. Was his name Leo? "What gives you the right to barge in here and tell us what to do? I noticed you slipping out somewhere the other night." I was shocked. He had noticed us? How did we not know? Storm looked unsettled for a moment then hid his feelings again. I guess he didn't know either. "For some reason, I wasn't able to follow you. Something stopped me. What's so secret that you two have to run off, not tell us where you go, and have something stop me from following? Are you working for HUNT?"

What could I do? No lie came readily available, but for some reason, when I tried to open my mouth to say the truth, it remained firmly shut. "You won't be able to tell anyone you're under a spell," she had said. Curse that thing!

Storm jumped in suddenly. "We're not supposed to mention it, but it seems like the need is great enough. In truth, we are part of a resistance force to HUNT. Catherine and I served as spies at the school. We didn't intend for you to get caught up in our investigations, but now that you have, I think it best you get out. We're trained professionals, agents for the resistance. Kids should stay out. Go home to your families and forget about this, all right?"

So we were the Men in Black now, huh? I couldn't help but be impressed by the sheer force of the lie he was telling. Who comes up with these kinds of things under pressure?

"No way am I staying out!" Brooke yelled vehemently. "HUNT hurt me and ruined my home! I'm not going to stop until every last one of them is crushed! Listen, if there's a resistance, I for one want to be in! We're all in this together, right guys?" Brooke looked around at her friends who all nodded and said, "Yeah" or "That's right" or "You tell 'em, Brooke".

Storm threw up his hands in mock disgust. "So be it. We'll rendezvous with the other resistance members later."

"You can't charge in without a plan," the lady in the back said suddenly. "I've learned a bit about HUNT in my day, and I say we need some kind of strategy. Who here is in this whole-heartedly and ready for a council of war?"

I stuck my hand in, finally feeling like part of a superhero team again.

Okay, let's see. Not sure where this is going to go...

Brooke ~

"The first thing you need to know is Giovanni is alive," Ms. Norfleet said as we stood around the table, like King Arthur and his knights. This statement was met with a chorus of cries of shock and disbelief. I made a noise that sounded like a cross of choking and a scoff, and said several impolite things under my breath that no one could hear. But from the look on Ms. Norfleet's face, she heard.

"You need to find a way to find into HUNT," Ms. Norfleet continued, stating the obvious. "There are hundreds of golems out there, looking for you kids. You need to steer clear of them. Get inside, find the center of power, and take it out."

***

I glared around the corner, watching dubiously. I was currently wishing I had the power to turn into a thousand pound grizzly should things turn... sour. But alas, it was not so, thanks to John.

I SWEAR if, no when, I get my hands on him I'm going to...

My thoughts were interuppted by Ms. Norfleet's mad waving. Evidently, she had spotted either John or another golem. We'd decided the best way to find Giovanni was to follow the golems to HUNT headquarters, which had doubtless changed location after the last incident.

I glanced back at the others and gave a nod.

*********************************************************************

So that's where it went. Y'all can throw this out if you want. I wasn't totally sure where to go.

GOLD hair, green eyes, white skin

Power is telekinesis!

Funny..... it appeared a shed had crashed through the roof of the academy.... ah well. She jerked the door of the academy open with her mind. "Anyone here? This weary traveler needs some rest!" she yelled to the astonished teachers and students. She levitated a bottle of water out of a teacher's hand, poured some into a flask, and drank. " Thank you kindly!" she said to the astonished teacher. Now to see about this peculiar shed.....
