Spontaneous RP!

Spontaneous RP!

Sometimes I feel like we get so caught up in the developement and rules of a RP that it dies before we even make it very far (I know that's happened to me...Combat Cliff RPG, Griffinfeather RPG the first...and more).

So, let's just do some writing.

two rules.

1. Put forth your absolute best. Even if it's not going to be published or maybe no one else but me will read it. It's good for your writing. Trust me.

2. Make sure everything lines up! Mostly!! Inserting random flying unicorns is okay, but killing a character off and then making them reappear might be a little confusing.

If you are still confuzzled, check out this thread to see what I mean:

http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/65463

just make up a character and join the story. You can be a character I've mentioned or somebody new. My characters are Pheonix and Carlena.

Without further ado, let us begin.

~

"Carlena scratched at the wall's smooth surface, her heart pounding so loud she could hardly think. The dark rectangle seemed to close in around her, pressing in on all sides; squeezing her lungs flat and yanking away all the oxygen. The air was hot and sizzling with frusteration and fear. Throwing herself against the wall, Carlena melted onto the floor. She was stuck. Enclosed in a horrible crystal box while her own dear sister, Caroll, was set on destroying Jewel Academy. All she could do was sit here, helpless and terrified out of her wits, while Caroll did away with everything she worked towards. Carlena tried to take a calming breath and found she could not breath. The walls were closing in...her eyes whirled crazily around the shadows; searching for an exit. If Cassey doesn't get the children out of the academy in time, they'll all... Carlena let out a frusterated gasp of despiration. Oh come on, Carlena! You can't let a little claustrophobia defeat you, girl! She said to herself. The spunky Galaxy Witch sat up slowly and brushed back the gigantic bush of chalk-white, ankle length hair from her damp forehead. Carlena then—"

"Pheonix! Jaihra's on the phone!" My older sister called from downstairs.

"COMING!" I yelled back, dropping The Charming Adventures of Carlena the Galaxy Witch to the floor. Galexia looks up at me in surprise from her nest of pillows on the floor, her eyes clouded, obviously still deep inside the story.

"But...that's not fair! Nixie!" My little sister moans, "What happens to Carlena? What happens to the seven sisters and the academy?"

"You're just going to have to find out next time!" I say with a wink. Galexia shakes her head furiously, sending her fluffy brown pigtails into a frenzy,

"It's not fair that I don't get to see what happens next because you wanna go talk to your giiiiirlfriend," she says angrily. On the last word, an evil smile begins to curl on her lips. I stop half-way to the door.

"Jaihra is NOT my girlfriend. And we have very important things to talk about," I retort hotly before rushing out of Galexia's frilly, pink bedroom and down the stairs, taking the story book with me. The wood steps creak under my feet as I race down, nearly slipping on the last one.

"Yeah, Jaihra, he's coming," I hear my 21-year-old sister, Andromeda, say, Rounding the corner, I can see her leaning against the counter in a red tank top and shorts, her long brown hair in a messy braid over one shoulder. She has my phone tucked between her hear and shoulder while she casually flips through pages of her sketchbook, twirling a bright blue pencil with her free hand.

"I'm here!" I yell breathlessly in her face.

"Took you long enough," she says, rolling her eyes and handing over the phone, "go take your chatting upstairs. You two 'll talk my ears off. Upstairs!" She commands, pointing her pencil.

"Hi Jaihra!" I greet into the phone.

"Hi Pheonix! Ummm...are you alone??" She asks cautiously, "I have an update on...you know...project Milky Way Sorceress and...uh...the Precious Stone School," she hints not-so-subtly.

"Yeah, just a sec," I answer, dashing back upstairs to my room and bouncing onto my bed.

"Okay! Shoot!" I exclaim, tossing down the story book beside me. It flips open to the title page; which is covered with words I'm glad Galexia can't read yet.

For my nephew, Pheonix. I hope you enjoy my charming adventures!!! Please keep in mind that these are all absolutely true and my heroism was not exagerated in the least. Hope that you can soon join me in Jewel Academy! Once you set out on your journey to find it, that is.

Your Aunt Carlena, the spunky Galaxy Witch

P.S. do not show this to anyone or I may have to incenerate them.

I let the book cover slide closed. Yeah, Galaxia, we do have important things to talk about.

I have been following this thread for a while, and I had an idea, what if there is another color of magic that no-one know about, and the group finds someone with that color magic, and they join the group? Just an idea.

EARTH! OH MY GOSH YES!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!

I previously called the Starz' plannet Earth, I think, but there's no way it could be with how it was set up. So we can come up with another name for it. How far in the future do you think this is for Earth? Are we advanced or the same? Do we accept airships from other systems?

Also, Dumbledor, that's a great idea! Maybe we can include it later. I actually have a big plan including the 7 sisters that I'm not sure when to reveal...maybe towards wherever we think is the climax?

Phoenix~

We stay at a hotel while fairy authorities deal with the whole flaming ship bay fiasco. I get there first and jump into the biggest bed. Gosh, why is yellow magic so exhausting? I could have had any magic.

That Dom guy quietly loads his blaster and stands outside the door. Andromeda sits cross-legged between the two beds and a pull-out couch that the rest of us are sprawled all over, cradling her own weapon in her lap. She's wearing Dominique's jacket for some reason, and it's too big for her. Her blue hair is pulled up in a high ponytail, and small whisps have escaped, framing her grime-smeared face.

She looks so freaking cool.

Where on earth did she learn about this stuff? About magic?

I look at her crossed arms. Her set face. The gun in her lap as she stands guard.

I have a feeling she isn't ready to share. But that doesn't really matter, seeing as I'll pull the story out of her sooner or later.

I look over at Galexia's purple hair splayed across her pillow. She doesn't deserve to be cursed like this. A slow, sickening dread sinks through me as I fall asleep.

~

They drag me out of bed too soon.

And everyone's apparently already made a decision.

Gosh, I'm obviously the leader here. Wasn't this my idea? My journey? And who's that Dom guy to make decisions anyway? Why do we trust him? I don't even know where he came from.

Also, he can't possibly be a good pilot. He's so...boring.

I reach over to grab Galexia's hand, and she gives me a small smile. Sam, Zephyr, and Lyra take her away and sit with her in the back of the ship.

"Phoenix, take notes, this is how you fly a ship!" Jaihra yells back to me as we take off. Okay, not cool. I'm an amazing pilot. I'm born to take to the stars.

"It wasn't that bad!"

"It was pretty bad," Lyra says. Yeah, what does Lyra know about piloting a ship?

I fold my arms and sit back, feeling mad at the world.

This whole magic thing? It's so complicated. Why does Galexia have purple magic? And why did the rules I just thought I learned turn so suddenly for her? She's too young. And she's a good person. She's my sister. Will the magic turn her into a different person? Will it take her over? I can't live with that.

Two weeks ago, when Dad left, I came home from school and found my window open. There was a book and a note on my bed. The note was from my aunt Carlena, explaining that I had magic and my mom was one of the 7 sisters. I didn't believe her. I almost tossed the note and book in the trashcan. But something stopped me. Magic? Good old-fashioned curiosity?

And reading the book full of all my aunt's (exaggerated) adventures, I somehow knew that they were true. And now I'm here, somehow. It's totally awesome, but also a little scary. In the seat across from me, Galexia's hands tremble in her lap, and her face is pale. I want to reach out to her, but I don't know how.

Auggghhhh, whyyy you strange epic called life.

Okay, I'm done being philisophical now.

"Set a course for Earth," Dominique tells Dathan, getting up from the pilot's seat.

"Wait, I'm mostly just a mechanic...i don't know..." Dathan starts.

"I'm sure you're better then Pheonix," Jaihra jabs.

"Hey! I heard that!" I call up.

"I know!" She says back, grinning. She better be glad she's my only friend. Dominque walks past me and disappears into the living quarters of the airship. I hear his low, steady voice talking a few minutes later.

"I'm going to try to contact a port on Earth and find a good landing space. I'll try to get us to the hub*," Jaihra announces so that everyone hears. Sliding a headset on, she taps at the controls. I can hear the static from here.

I'm bored. I hope Earth is exciting. Maybe they have fire-breathing monsters or at least some sort of entertainment. Maybe the people there will try to kill us until we prove that we are brave warriors and save their planet, then they'll induct us into their cult and we'll get to ride fire-breathing monsters! Yes! I would look better on one of those then on a pegasus.

Dominique comes back and I stick out my foot to trip him. He steps over it calmly. Well, shoot.

Andromeda looks up.

"Something wrong?" She asks quietly, looking around to see if anyone is listening. I quickly turn to stare out the window. The stars are looking...particularly interesting today!

"Nothing," he assures, "just an important call. I didn't disclose my location."

"Okay," Andromeda nods, "to Earth we go!" She says a little louder.

Sorry. If that last post came through, that was my brother and I'm sorry for all that gibberish.

Andromeda~

Dom takes his place back at the front of the ship, and Dathan gratefully moves over one seat. An important call? From who?

The Officials?

His family?

Our home planet?

I shake the doubts from my mind. Dom saved my life in the Spectrum System. Trust me to get into trouble, of course. I have blue magic; trouble finds me, and I've learned to accept it and even thrive off of it.

But Dom didn't have to follow me through the dark, strange maze of markets and shops after I'd hijacked his plane and forced him to fly me there. He could've snuck away at any time, and I would have hardly cared. There are enough gullible pilots on any planet, even in Spectrum. All I had needed was to catch up with an old informant, snag a few illegal items from one of the shops, and talk to an old friend. Or enemy. Same thing.

But Dom had followed me. And when we were suddenly ambushed by a hoard of my enemies (I get around. Let's just say I never really went to "art school"), he stood and fought with me. Working together had felt...good. Yelling back and forth to each other. Grinning as we stood back to back, 2 against too many to count. Those are the odds I love, of course. I've always wanted a friend like that.

He got me out of there and helped me track down my siblings. And now, he's sticking with us. I can't question his loyalty or friendship, but I still have to wonder... who was he calling?

"Ugh, I can't get Earth on the comm. Maybe this planet has poor reception," Jaihra says, making a disgusted face at all the static. For a second, there seemed to be a distant voice mixed in it.

"Hello? Hello?" Jaihra jumps on the noise, "can you hear me? Anyone there? Asteriods. Lost it." She slams down her headset.

"Hey Jaihra," Raja speaks suddenly, "there's a blip on the screen right behind us. It wasn't there earlier and it certainly couldn't have suddenly appeared there so quickly without us seeing it come up. Think it's a malfunction?" Jaihra leaned over to look at her pointing finger.

"I don't know. Dathan?" She glances up at the mechanic.

"How is this possible? Surely there isn't a—"

Suddenly, he's interupted by a blinding flash and an explosion that rocks the ship.

"What's happening?" Lyra screams.

"Oh my gosh!!!" Pheonix jumps out of his seat, looking half-estatic and half-terrified. A strange look for my little brother.

"They're shooting at us!" Saphira yells back, "hold on, I'll try to zap the ship with my magic."

"No!" Dathan commands, "Saphira, I need you to focus all your energy on forming a force field around the ship. Keep it together and protected until we reach Earth. I need to see if there's any damage." He gets up and flounders through the tangle of people in the rocking ship.

"He's right," Dom says calmly, hands tightening around the controls.

The ship shakes again, this time with less violence. I glance around. Zephyr, Sam, and Lyra all gather around Galexia, who's hands are trembling. Poor baby. I can't help you right now.

"Don't worry Saphira, I'll blow them out of the galaxy for you." I dash to the back of the pitching ship that Dom is trying his very best to steady. The coffee pot on the miniature kitchen counter and trow rooms of stacked bunk beds look odd, as if belonging to another, less dangerous reality. Swinging into the cold metal seat in the alcove at the back of the ship, I click on the targeting computer and take inventory of the weapons.

I can hear Dathan shouting from the engine room, Pheonix is yelling something unintelligable over the explosions, and Jaihra is still frantically trying to reach Earth over the comm.

I drown it all out, focusing on the screen in front of me. The compact black ship moving in and out of view on the targeting computer. I've never used one of these guns before. I wonder how they work.

~ Galexia ~

A bright light flashes and the ship rocks. I shriek and fall down to the ground as the ship shakes again.

"Oh my gosh!" Nixie screams, jumping up.

Don't do anything stupid, I think, but can't form the words. As the ship shakes again, even more violently, I feel my hands start to shake, out of fear and... oh, no. I feel the familiar power coursing through my veins. I squeeze my eyes shut and try to block it away.

People say some things, then I hear Andromeda's voice, "Don't worry Saphira, I'll blow them out of the galaxy for you."

I snap my head up to see Andromeda disappear out the door.

"Andromeda!" I scream, jumping up and trying to follow her. However, Zephyr, Sam, and Lyra all grab me. I struggle and kick. Unbidden, my hands glow purple and sparks fly out of them. All three of them cry out and jump back. I glance to the side--my hair is glowing purple again. No. No. No. But I can't stop it now. My hands tremble violently. I look back, my expression one of pure terror and a plead for help. Then I turn back around and run out the door. I hear Zephyr, Sam, and Lyra chasing after me, but the purple magic lends me speed and I rush towards the back of the ship, where I know Andromeda is.

BOOM! The ship rocks. The sound came from the back of the ship. ANDROMEDA! I grit my teeth and put on another burst of energy. In no time, I'm at the back of the now violently rocking ship.

"Andromeda Andromeda Andromeda!" I scream, stumbling into the room. I see her sitting on an alcove, hands gripping a gun and firing it at the spaceship behind us. At my call, she stiffens and whirls around.

"Oh my gosh, Galexia," she whispers. She hesitates, looking back at the screen then at me again. She fires one more time then jumps down from the alcove and grabs me, "Galexia, Galexia."

Tears well up in my eyes. My vision has turned completely purple, and everything is swimming in and out of view. Violet sparks fly out of my fingers, and though I try to keep the magic inside, it seeps out.

"Andromeda," I whimper, "What's happening to me?"

"Oh, sweet baby," she mutters, caressing me, "Oh, Galexia. I know it's confusing. I promise I'll explain when we reach Earth. Oh, Galexia."

I sniffle and a tear falls down my cheek, dripping onto my hand. It's purple. Why is everything about me turning purple? Desperation and anger fills me, and before I know it, a purple blast explodes outside of the spaceship, blowing the ship behind us up. I gasp as I look out the back window at the now-clear space behind us.

I look up at Andromeda, asking desperately, "Was that you?"

"No, Galexia," she looks down at me and grabs my hands, taking a deep breath, "I think that was you."

"No!" I cry, flinging myself into her arms, "I didn't do it on purpose, I promise... I just killed the people in that spaceship, didn't I? Oh gosh, oh no, Andromeda I'm a murderer..."

At that realization, I break down, sobbing my heart out. Andromeda picks me up and cradles me in her arms, muttering comforting words. Through sobs, I manage some words:

"Andromeda, I'm a murderer... I'm a monster... Andromeda I don't want magic... I don't want it I don't want it... Andromeda, what am I going to do?"

Saphira~~~

I look out the window, satified that the ship is gone.

"Earth huh... if I remember corectly last time I was their they didn't have spaceship places........ they didn't even know how to make stuff like that. It was quiet uncivilized as a matter of fact... they didn't even have electricity. Of course that was quiet some time ago so I don't know what their state is. All I hope is that they've figured out how to make tacos." I say.

Everybody stares at me and I shrug.

"I'm hungry! And it's been ages since I've had a good taco." I say.

They shrug and continue their tasks as I get up and head to the kitchen.

Andromeda~

The stream of Galexia's purple energy through the gun explodes the enemy ship.

The force pushes us forward violently, and the ship rocks to the side. Galexia and I are thrown out of the weapons' alcove. I wrap my arms around her as we roll onto the floor.

"It's okay. We're going to be okay," I assure her, keeping my voice measured, soft. Galexia's fingers wrap around a loose button from my jacket—Dom's jacket.

"It's okay," I repeat, whispering close to her ear to be heard over the straining engines. Brushing her purple hair back with my thumb, I leave a smudge of soot and dirt at her sweaty hairline. Inside, my magically-influenced panic threatens to rip me apart. I feel a sting in my eyes; a dull, worried pain at the base of my neck. If I can't be the strong one, no one else will. That's always been the thought that drove me; the motivation for me to keep going, keep training. To keep getting into trouble and danger, too.

I look up over Galexia, pressing my chin gently into her forehead to see what we're dealing with. The ship is slightly cocked to one side, and it jerks with every puff of the tired engine. I'm sure the light energy levels are low. The ship rolls and bumps unevenly as it flies. Through the rear window of the ship, I can see a shimmering comet-tail of rainbow energy. Saphira's magic, holding the ship together while Dathan checks the damage.

We'll probably be able to make it to this planet "Earth." After all, we're still flying. And we'll fight with whatever we've got left to keep going.

Glancing up through the living quarters in the middle of the ship, I can see the others in a colorful flurry.

Standing up and finding balance on the tilted ship, I lift Galexia into my arms. I walk back to the front and let her slide off into her chair.

Gently, I wipe her tears away with my thumb, leaving another smudge of dirt on her cheek. She  doesn't wipe it off.

Dom is bent low over the controls, his hands tight, his dark, sweat-tipped hair getting into his eyes, Saphira walks by eating some of the packaged food from the kitchen and raps on the engine hatch for Dathan. My brother is staring out the window and then back at Galexia, looking totally awed.

A thin smile creases my lips.

What a rag-tag magic-inspired army we have here.

"Jaihra, I think I hear something!" Raja directed my attention back to the intercom. I could see some sound waves projected onto the screen. I pressed the call button.

"Hello? Permission to land, over." I could hear a crash, and chaos insued in the cabin. I looked at the head computer. Our left engine was out. Dathan was gone, which probably meant he was fixing it. Out the window, I could see Saphira's magic holding the ship together.

"What is the name of your plane? Over." The flight regulatr responded. Did this ship have a name? I looked briefly, and my eyes laid on the sparkling purple jewel icon on the map. It was the same color as Galexia's magic.

"This is the Amethyst, requesting landing coordinates." Out the window, I could see that we were now in the gravitational pull of Earth.

"Jaihra, I need the coordinates now!" Dominique struggled to keep the ship out of the atmosphere.

"I'm sorry, we cannot find your plane in our database, access has been denied." The intercom clicked off.

"Asteroids! Raja, can you try and find a hub?" Raja nodded, and swiveled her chair over to the map of Earth. She zoomed into an icon next to a large body of blue.

"This one could work! Approximately 40 degrees North, 73 degrees West." Raja clicked the icon, and sent the coordinates to Dominique.

"Got them. Buckle up everyone, we're about to enter the atmosphere." Suddenly, a red light started flashing. I went over to look at it.

"Wait! Our exterior integrity is low. I don't think we can make it passed the atmosphere."

"Ask Dathan!"

I pressed a finger to a button on the dashboard. It was for Dathan's earpiece.

"Dom, I can't fix this engine." Dominique cursd under his breath, and switched the fuel from the left engine to the right.

"This is Jaihra. The exterior integrity is low, can we make it through the reentry?"

"Jaihra, it's getting lower!" Raja informed me.

"How low?" I took a look at the meter.

"18%"

"18%? We need to have at least 75%! How's Saphira doing? If she can double the amount of magic she's outputing, the intergrity could increase. I'll try to help the exterior." The com clicked off. I looked out the window. The rainbow halo had dimmed noticably. I looked over at everyone in the back, and back at Raja.

"I got an idea. Raja, do you think you and everyone else who has magic could help Saphira out? Combined, we should be able to make reentry."

"Ok, that could work!" She ran back to the cabin.

"Jaihra, I'm going to have to make reentry now, or we won't have enough fuel!"

"Ok, do it!" Dominique turned the ship downwards, and we plumetted towards the Earth. I watched the Exterior integrity nervously. it was now down to 17%. 16%.

Then, there was a gentle glow emiting from the window. I looked out, and saw a glowing blue join Saphira's fading magic, closely followed by a green. Lyra and Zephyr joined next. Exterior Stable. The percent stopped dropping, and instead held at 16%. There was now a light blue in the rainbow. Soon after, there was a flash of bright yellow. Exterior Intergrity Increasing. The percent was now rising. It was now up to 51. Almost enough to survive reentry. We were almost at maximum force. I bit my lip, and prayed the intergrity would go up in time.

Out of the window, there was a large flash, and an aura of purple light surrounded the ship. Exterior Intergrity 100%. Good girl. I thought to myself. We pulled out of the reentry, and into a light blue sky.

YOU CANNOT DIE NOW

NOT NOW THAT WE'VE COME SO FAR

submitted by Top!
(July 29, 2018 - 8:40 pm)

Dominique~

I'd been in many tight situations before, just none so heavily influenced by magic. I feel the magic straining to keep the ship together, interrupting the normal flight systems but keeping us alive, all the same. The reluctant controls and turbulent flight mean that the light energy is low, which in turn could mean damage to the engine. And the exterior energy is dropping rapidly. We'd only taken two direct hits* from the enemy ship, but we had suffered so much damage that the ship could burst apart of combust at any second.

I risk a quick glance at the navigation screen.

"We're just now entering Milky Way galaxy," Raja says quickly, seeing my look. There's no way we'll be able to make it in time with 18 percent exterior energy, a damaged engine, and a ship held together by magic.

Suddenly, Andromeda is standing behind me, hands on my shoulders.

"It's okay, Dom. You can get us out of this one."

"I know," I say through tight breaths, all my focus on keeping the ship balanced. We pass a glowing planet.

"Get in your seat. This is going to get rough." Andromeda pretends to pout, then complies, sliding into the copilot's seat.

Earth's gravity begins to pull us in. The tired ship wants to take the dive to reentry, and its all I can do to keep her up.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Andromeda prop her feet up on the control deck, eyes anxiously searching the small planet, glowing with greens and blues spread out below us.

"Whoa. That's a lot of water," she comments.

"Put your feet down," I respond.

"What? These are the cleanest my shoes have been for days!"

Our light energy is growing lower. We need more fuel. If we wait any longer, we won't have enough energy to sustain us through reentry. Even so, we'll have to rely on magic to get us through.

"I'm going to have to make reentry now, or we won't have enough fuel."

"Okay. Do it!" Jaihra responds.

I take the dive.

Through the clear debris shield, all I can see is red sparks exploding from the tip of the ship and the whirling heat of friction scraping past. I struggle to hold the ship steady. This is by far the most tense, dangerous reentry I've had to make, never mind all those other tight spots. A streak of blue shoots out in front, cutting a line through the atmosphere.

Andromeda shrugs and smiles, her fingertips sizzling blue.

Soon, multicolored flashes of magic surround the ship, and to my surprise, I feel it begin to steady. The controls once more respond easily to my guidance and I pull up hard.

The sparks begin to clear as our decent slows. Huge bodies of water, cities, and buildings I've never seen the like of before rush up at us in a spring of color.

I aim for the water, vast voids of blue growing larger and larger as we get closer. I've never seen so much water on a planet of land-dwelling life-forms before. Certainly not on our home planet.

"We're gonna hit hard," Andromeda warns, glancing backwards to check on her siblings.

"I know," I say through gritted teeth, trying to keep the ship on a steady course.

At the last possible second, I tap the emergency water landing controls, screwing the impact dial as far up as it will go.

"Brace yourselves!" Jaihra warns, and everything is lost in the giant crashing and rolling of water. I throw my arms in front of my face as we all lurch forward, slamming into the control deck. Huge, hissing bubbles form a casing around us as we sink.

Then, softly at first, the ship begins to hum and rise as the emergency water landing controls come into action. I lift my head as we surface to catch the first glimpse of the planet Earth.
