Beginner Thread For New Kyngdomers or Those Who Want a Slightly More Relaxed Roleplay To Participate In

By relaxed, I really just mean a thread that doesn't directly alter the main plot.

Here's a link to Hazel's Kyngdom Academy thread, if you have any questions: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/412799

Anyways, let's introduce a segment of story, hmm?

The Grasplands, located in Southeastern Kyngdom, were once a peaceful land, where people of all nations came to visit and enjoy the warm climate. But ever since the war, the Grasplands have been altered. And not in a good way.

Nations bordering Kyngdom began to take advantage of its weakness. They began to seep into the boundaries, seeking to take some of the land.

However, Catastrophe didn't want other nations meddling in his war. He began to bomb the area. The other nations left, leaving the Graspland to view him as their savior.

Ever since, the Nobyls (wealthy families that used to rule Kyngdom) have been replaced with Catastrophe's soldiers. He has begun to recruit people living in the Grasplands.

But he's not the only army in town.

The Resistance has been hiding in the alleyways and basements of towns in the Grasplands, seeking to recruit those who do not agree with Catastrophe's motives.

What side will you join? Or will you join any at all?

Remember, post your charrie sheet on the Who's Here? thread, which is located on the homepage.

Happy roleplaying!

Sounds good to me. And like Soren said, the second option for R'oko would make less sense.

Okay then! Here's a post going from the end of my post from Eniyan's perspective, right above Soren's post.

Dar'sava~~

R'oko and I walk back up the hill, the green-skinned elf in tow. We've managed to convince he to spend the njght-- I believe I can convince her to join the Resistance, though R'oko remains doubtful.

When we get inside, we find that Jasper is alone in the dining room.

"The others are down there. With the, uh.." He looks at the elf. " ...paaatient. "

"Right, yes! I'll see to him," R'oko says, playing along with Jasper's lie. R'oko goes downstairs into the basement.

"So, what's your name?" I ask the elf. . "I'm Dar'sava."

Aight, cool! I see we’re going with Roko as a resistance member which makes much more sense.

Also I should have probably introduced who Jasper is. He’s a human, in his early thirties, good actor, good conversationalist. Doesn’t trust people, but he may act like he does (great actor). Not too loyal either. Escaped from Catastrophe and his army. He was a poacher before. Been on the run, but it’s been a while so he’s pretty relaxed about it.

~~~
I lazily watch, sitting at a crudely made dinner table, as Dar’sava, the cat boy asks the newcomer a few questions.
“So what’s your name? I’m Dar’sava.”
“Jira. I don’t see that it’s your business, though.”
The elf is obviously a bit on edge and her voice betrays a cold, untrusting tone. I know that tone well. Dar’sava subtly raises an eyebrow, and replies quickly.
”No trouble, just wondering.” He nods towards me. “This is Jasper. He’s also staying the night, but we’ll see where we go in the morning... and how the patient is doing.”
I greet her, as she surveys me suspiciously, but remains her nonchalant air.
“Well,” Dar’sava slowly, and a bit awkwardly begins, “Jira you can sleep anywhere you like, there’s a few blankets and such lying around if you want to hit the hay.”
She does so, without much appreciation. I glance towards Dar’sava, and give him a “I don’t trust her look. He nods slowly and announces, “Well, I’m going to see how our patient is doing, poor fellow.”
“You’re too kind Dar’sava,” I mention as a quick smile flashes across his face.
“I try my best, Jasper, I try my best.”  With that he exits to a door that leads downstairs, leaving me alone in the musty dining room.
Jira~
I lay on a blanket in another room, staring at the ceiling. I don't quite feel like going to sleep, not when there's so many people here, some of which may know of this Catastrophe and how I could find out more about him. And then there's the whispered word. Resistance. I know a lot about resistance, but this seems like more than simply an action. It seems like another organization. I blink rapidly, trying to stay awake, but my eyes continue to close despite all my efforts. Eventually I get up quietly, resolving to find out more about this farmhouse. And... their myterious "patient". Jasper seemed quite sure of himself when he spoke of the patient, but Dar'sava I'm not so sure. I was almost certain he gave Jasper a significant look. And then... why would he go to the basement? That's no place to put a "patient" in any situation. I rub my hands together, wondering if there's anything worth snatching behind that door.
I peek around the corner into the dining room, only to see Jasper still there, blocking my path to the basement door. I'll have to find out about their secrets later.
I forgot to mention Dar'sava has a pretty large ego as well.
Eniyan~~
The Homo Avian and her friends watch me, discussing in hushed voices. Probably about whether or not to execute me.
I silently curse myself for being so reckless. Maybe if I hadn't gotten so confident, this wouldn't have happened. But I know I can't go back to Catastrophe after this. Nobody in his army ever really trusted homo tenebri, and they'll either kill me on the spot or chase me off.
Eventually, the cat man comes downstairs. "Jasper's watching the elf. We've convinced her the tenebris is a patient and that we're taking care of him."
"Then we should move him upstairs into one of the guest rooms," R'oko said. "That would help with our story."
"Got it. Ember and I can take him up," Kirah says.
"Great," Dar'sava says. "But should we keep him bound? I'm certain the elf will do some snooping, and it would be wonderfully suspicious if he were still bound in chains."
"Well, I don't trust him enough," Kirah snaps.
"The guest rooms have locks on the doors, on the outside," R'oko adds.
"Look," I snap from in the cell, "I'm clearly not going anywhere. Catastrophe isn't going to want an assassin who gets caught so easy."
"Okay, he does have a point," Dar'sava admitted. "Though I'm very interested in seeing Ember and Kirah cradling him to make it look like he's actually injured." I growl at the cat. His big ego is starting to annoy me. Kirah looks just as annoyed.
"Maybe just Ember should do it," R'oko suggests. "I'm still not certain Kirah wouldn't drag him roughly up the stairs."
Kirah~
R'oko is definitely right about that, but I still shoot him a look. Yeah, fine, I don't trust anybody. I have my reasons. I mean, who wants to be friends with someone who doesn't even spare some kindness for their allies? It's for everyone's safety, anyways.
Ember sets her face and approaches the tenebris. Once she's gone, It's only Dar'sava, R'oko and I. What a fun group, I think to myself sarcastically.
"I might want to head back," I announce finally. "I'm suppoed to be one of Catastrophe's soldiers right now."
"But wouldn't it look even worse if you just came back in the middle of the night?" Dar'sava points out innocently.
"What, are you trying to convince me to stay or something? Or you think I can't handle whatever questions come my way?" I shoot back instantly.
"No! I'm just trying to be realistic," he covers up. I roll my eyes. Admittedly, he's probably telling the truth. I just want to give him a bit of a hard time. I'm tired, anyways.
"Fine," I snap, "I'll stay the night, if you so desire..." I want to call him something annoying, but I'm all out of snark for today. I march up the stairs before R'oko or Dar'sava can stop me.
I perch on a tree limb outside the tavern, my night vision peeking at the door. I must make sure they are what they say they are. I settle in, ready to get some sleep here in the tree bofore morning. I get grumpy without sleep.
That, of course, is when the soldiers show up.
Definately catstrophe soldiers, judging by their regalia. I see them surround the building, bayonets pointed at every entrance or exit they can see. I give a low growl, deep in my throat, and get ready to help out the Resistance combatants.
Jira~
I hear someone come up the stairs. Looking around the corner into that room, I see the one they called Ember helping the homo tenebris across the room.
So that's their patient, I think to myself. Well, if it's a true story, at least they're not keeping him in the basement anymore. Matbe I can...
I come out of the room and intercept Ember and the tenebris on their way to another room, probably a guest room.
"Excuse me," I say slowly, "I have some experience with medicinal plants and such. I heard that there was a 'patient' here, and I'm assuming that's him? I could help with his care, if neccessary."
Ember pauses, then shakes her head. "No thanks," she says quickly. "I've got it."
"At least let me help you take him to--"
"No, I'm good." Ember pushes past me and continues down the hall with the homo tenebris.
Well, that was mostly unhelpful, I think. I didn't even learn his name. At least now I'm a little more sure that the tenebris isn't a "patient".
As I head back to my improvised bed, I hear someone else stomp up the stairs. It's the winged one, looking annoyed.
I don't want to deal with that, I think, almost amused, as she stomps past me, heading for another room. But I can follow her? Maybe find out more about this place. I start after her, but pause. If she caught me, chances are she'd take me for a spy, even though I technically am not. And if she took me for a spy, I would probably lose my chance to learn more about Catastrophe and the Resistance. I'd better bide my time for now. I yawn, finally feeling tired, and head back to the blanket I spread out on the floor.
Dar'sava~~
I follow Kirah up the stairs.
"Hey--" I begin. She glares at me and I fall silent.
I sigh. "Sorry if it felt like I was implying you were weak." She looks at me, probably surprised at the fact I'm actually apologizing for once.
"I actually wanted you to stay because quite frankly, you're the only other person here who could take out the tenebris if they caused problems."
"I see you counted yourself as the other one who could do it."
"Well, it'd probably be a team effort. 60 percent me, 40 percent me," I say with a grin. She rolls her eyes.
"I doubt that. A lot." She's not looking at me but she doesn't seem as grumpy , so I count my efforts as a win.
Suddenly, R'oko bursts up the stairs, out of breath.
"Catastrophe --his soldiers burnt down the tavern," R'oko says.
"That's unfortunate, but not really much to get so panicked over," Kirah says.
"That's not what I'm worried about," R'oko says. "Catastrophe 's soldiers are coming. Right here, right now."
"Oh, Claaws!" I exclaim . "Do they know it's a safehouse?"
"We don't think so. They're just searching all the houses, looking for the escaped Resistance member."
"You mean me?" Ember asks , walking down the stairs. "I got a coded phone call, just now."
" Yes. We'll need you and the tenebris to hide out somewhere. Unfortunately, we can't trust the tenebris. But I can't leave. Either Dar'sava or Kirah will have to go too. "
"I will," Kirah and I say at the both time.
"Okay, both of you can go," R'oko says. "But we've got to hurry. Jasper and I will come up with some lie to tell the elf and the soldiers. You three need to get the tenebris, and leave."
~ ~~
Nyx, I was thinking Jira might go with the soldiers when they search the house?
Ember~
"You three need to get the tenebris, and leave."
My hand flies to my mouth at the news. "I'm so sorry, R'oko. I hope the people in the tavern--" I break off, heart fluttering in alarm. There's no time to feel upset. I only hope it isn't too late--that we haven't led ourselves right into a trap.
"No need to worry," R'oko asserts. "We've gotten out of some tight scrapes before, and I'm sure I'll--"
"I'm sure Jasper will come up with a great lie," Kirah cuts in. (R'oko is not the best at subtlety.)
Why would they be so adamant about finding one Resistance agent? Are they becoming more protective over the flowers? Or are they following the trail to sniff out hiding places...How would they know to come this way?
My eyes widen, and I turn to Kirah and Dar'sava. "The tenebris might have--a tracker. I've got to check him before we go."
This house is protected by a mix of magic and technology to keep outside sensors from picking up signals from within. In other words, trackers don't work within the safehouse walls, but outside, they most certainly do.
I race back up the stairs, Kirah and Dar'sava not too far behind.
I'd handcuffed the tenebris after putting him in the guestroom. When we burst into the room, we find him sitting calmly on the tiny, creaky bed, regarding us coolly.
"Back so soon?"
Kirah and Dar'sava grab him roughly by the arms while I rifle through my bag. I whip out a LEMP device, which will produce a localized electromagnetic pulse to destroy any electronics within range. Stashing my bag by the door, I approach the tenebris, requesting that Kirah and Dar'sava step back.
"I don't want this ruining any of your devices," I explain before turning to the assassin. "Do you know if you have a tracker anywhere on you?"
He stares, eyes narrow. "What do you think?"
"That's a no, then." My eyes are round with anxiety, and my foot begins to tap subconsciously. I grab him by his hancuffs, power up the LEMP, and run it up and down both arms and behind his neck. The tenebris gives no indication of having felt anything.
"We're probably good for now. If he's really got one, I can remove it when we get to safety."
With that settled, it's time to run.
---------------
How long have Dar'sava and Kirah been here? Ember's been here about a month, so she knows her way around.
Kimi is a raccoon anthro who took part in the theft of the fake Power of Hoof at the Mer flea market. After escaping Jokull and sheltering in Sanukaville, she and Davina were charged by the Sanukan mayor (Davina's dad) to gravel to the Grasplands and find out why Catastrophe's army is 1) messing with Sanukan trade, and 2) collecting flowers. They've landed in a new city.
Kimi (short post)~
The helicopter touches down on a wide, cracked concrete platform next to a dusty old hangar. Giant metal barrels line the hangar's tin walls; the hangar is open on the front, revealing the nose of a jet. For an airport in the middle of nowhere, it's pretty fancy. Meanwhile, we're surrounded on all sides by a perfectly flat ocean of grass.
Surprisingly, it's as warm as ever in the Grasplands.
We unload our things and pile into a fancy black truck. The nearest city is two miles away, just over the horizon. Its name, Iafield, sounds familiar. I can't remember if it's large or small, but based on our mission, it's probably a trade city.
"So--what do we do first?"
--------
My question is the same as Kimi's...What's the plan?
Jira~
I'm startled awake as Ember, Dar'sava, and Kirah burst out of the door leading to the basement. They head to the room where the homo tenebris is, and I follow them, cautiously making sure they don't see me. Unfortunately, they shut the door behind them, and I'm unable to find out what they're doing with the tenebris in such a hurry. I put my ear to the door, and catch snatches of conversation, mostly Ember's voice talking about devices, and a tracker. I hear hurried footsteps and jerk back from the door just as they come out again, either not noticing me, or just not caring. They take the tenebris and disappear, and I stay in my corner until I feel safe to come out. Then I go back to the door of the basement.
Time to find out what's down there, I think eagerly, and open the door.
~
Either she could get down there and talk to R'oko, or someone could stop her, I don't really care.
The tavern was burnt. To the ground.
I received the news with pure shock. What in Clawws name happened? Sam... his family. First betrayal now... death? Is this what happens, when you try to do a good deed? Did I mess up? Today started as any other day... and yet lives have been altered in just a few hours. I don't- won't comprehend how such an awful thing could happen. Now soldiers are coming, soon to arrest R'oko and myself... they will know who I am. Won't they? I dont know what to do.
I shut my eyes and cover my face with my hands. For a long time, I sit in darkness, everything else slips away. A foul taste bleeds into the blackness. It whispers a single word: run. Could I? Would I?
As Ember, Kirah and Dar'sava escape with the tenebris, I remain behind. Chilled, I turn from the dining room to the basement, where R'oko is. He watches me. I quickly regain my composure, burying all emotions under a mask of stoicism. A fimiliar feeling rose quickly to my throat.
"Did anyone survive?" I ask slowly ask, picking my words carefully.
"I don't know. I'm sorry, Jasper. I know Sam Pickering was your friend- I'm sur-"
"Look," I reply in a slightly hurried tone, "I never signed up for this. I just wanted to help Ember escape, then I would be on my own."
"I kno-"
"No! You don't know! If the soldiers finds me, they'll either shoot me or put me in prison, neither of which I'm to fond of-"
In a flash, Roko grabs my collar with a single fist and sternly replies, "They wouldnt shoot just you. You stop and think of that?"
I clentch my jaw, my loyalties to him and the Resistance tear me slowly apart. He glares at me.
"Either were in this together, or you leave and never come back. Got it?"
Before I can reply, a loud crashing echoes through the basement. They're here.
NEW CHARRIE! His name is Cadao Munoz, he is a Homo Felis that has Norwigan Forest long haired fur, bright blue eyes, he is about 4'7" and is 10 years old.
~Cadao
If only today wasn't the day that I had to go to the tavern. If only I just left when I was supposed to. If only my mom didn't start talking to Mrs. Lisa. Now they're all gone. Tears fall down my face as I am dragged along by the soldiers.
I keep stumbling along and they hit me every time I fall. I was there for the whole dude getting knocked out and carried away. Then the Soldiers came. We didn't realize until we left. They shot her. They took me. They burned everyone and everything else.
We eventually come accross a barn and barge in. By now I have a black eye and many forming brusies.
"Come out!" The lead dude calls out "Or let this stupid child be the consequence of your actions."
"I am not going to be used as a leverage in a deal!" I shout at him.
He just stares me down. The other guards punch me in the stomach. "Only speak when spoken to." He says. He speaks very calculated and cold.
